  6. I seen a black venture heading toward Gaylord Mi. on M32 last night. was someone here out sight seeing it would have been around 6:30 pm and riding two up
  7. Arrived back form our eastern tour yesterday at noon, yesterday. Round trip was 5829 Km's. I used 397 litres pulling a trailer about 34.5 mpg. Deb used 322 litres approx. 42.5 mpg. We hit about 4 days of rain and it was very cold around Gaspe' and the Cabot Trail but we enjoyed ourselves. Camped when it was nice. Here's a few picks.
  8. Yesterday I saw with my own eyes the disaster that has befallen the Gulf....and its direct impact upon my home State and the Cajuns who inhabit this area. I don't cry easily but I shed tears when I saw the devastation in the bayous, beautiful wild birds oil-coated and unable to fly....and the great number of those who simply died in a struggle for life. Our Base Camp is in Hopedale,La. There are several thousand people working there to clean the oil booms and get that black crud out of the bayous. Throughout the long day I saw no one goofing off....everyone is going at this cleanup with a fury of human effort. We are busy transporting oil-slicked birds to Ft. Jackson in Venice-La which is 60 miles away from Hopedale. At Ft. Jackson folks there are working 24/7 to clean and save the birds and any other wildlife that is brought in. My Company has 28 specially-equipped vehicles for transporting the wildlife. We are working hand-in-hand with La. Wildlife and Fish to save as much of the wildlife as humanly possible......and we roll 24/7 in this endeavor. Yesterday I had a chance to talk to some of the local Cajuns whose lives have been turned upside down by this disaster. There is not much hope but there is a burning resolve to do what they can to save whatever is possible in this beautiful land that they have called Home for generations. Boomer.....driving hard down here....and to hell with getting a lot of sleep.
  9. Spotted on I-75 North bound just south on Macon, Ga. yesterday 5/8/2010. Three bikes the lead bike was a 2001 green Venture, the second bike was a 2009 red Venture, and the third bike was customized so I don't know what it was but it was nice. Any of you out there yesterday? I think it was a STAR ride as I think I saw one of the riders wearing the vest.
  10. Hey all: Well, heading out on my first long trip on my 07 midnight RSV to Sanford, fla on Thursday. Leaving as soon as school is out as I have a 12 day break and ready to head south to visit my daughter. Got a new rear tire on yesterday, fluids topped off and got her washed and waxed yesterday. Anyone have any lastminute tips as I head south Thursday. Will try to get on Thursday night after checking into hotel and then Friday night after I get there. Plan on taking it steady and not in a hurry. Appreciate any prayers for safe travel. Brian D.
  11. I bought the blockers from buddy rich. The velcro on the left one sticks fine but I can't get the right one to stick. I almost lost it riding home from work yesterday. Any suggestions?
  12. I talked with them yesterday, it seems there was a delay in the order because the factory only runs these big ones so often. 25 should be ready next week.
  13. Well, I'm waiting on another valve cover gasket for the '89, so it won't be here til later in the week. Yesterday was such a pretty day, 70s and sunny. Didn't want to waste it sitting inside, so...
  14. A long time ago a much older and much wiser friend of mine told me that with women "it's a h*ll of a lot easier to lose points then it is to get them". Well yesterday I was able to gain a few. Mary is a big C&W music fan so when we saw that Garth Brooks was playing here in Vegas I suggested that we try and get tickets. She said it would be impossible, that the show would have been sold out months ago. I said it don't hurt to ask. So at 3:00 yesterday afternoon we go to the box office and they have a line for last minute cancellations. No body was waiting so I said lets go. After a ten minute wait the girl called us up. She said there was two seats for the 10:30 show, centre stage, row O. I said we'll take them. Mary was so excited and giddy like a teenage girl. The show was excellent and even though I'm not a fan I really enjoyed it too. Trisha Yearwood, his wife, came out for a couple of songs as well. I was a hero last night. Now I just have to figure out how not to lose those points. Maybe tickets to Brooks and Dunn???
  15. Well spent a couple nights searching craigslist in Raleigh,Durham area to find my daughter a decent car. I know alot of people might say tuff it out, your on your own or whatever for making such a dumb mistake, ( no comp on insur. policy) but she's still my lil girl. She was just promoted at work and life seems to be going good for her so I couldnt stand by and let this jeopardize her good job. Well I think we found her a good one, found a 2000 Chevy Impala in about mint condition. 129k miles on it for 2850.00 Only thing wrong with it is a small ding in door from a rampid shopping cart. Has new tires, regular maintaince, fresh oil change and service, even a full tank a gas. Tranny fluid looked good and engine purred like a kitten. My daughter called me yesterday as she was driving home and she was on cloud nine. Dad, she said, I thought you were crazy when you said it would work out for the better, there was no way I could see that then. I love you and your the best parents anyone could ask for. I just smiled to myself and thanked the big guy for pulling us out of another dilimma, and thank you guys for prayers and words of encouragement. Looks like Christmas is gonna be OK after all
  16. Well my last day of college finally came yesterday. Now I get to rejoin the rest of the working folks.
  17. We had no snow as of 6 AM yesterday, and now......
  18. For the first time in a few months I actually rode a scoot. The back is almost 100%, and the weather was awesome. I needed a little welding done on the '91, so decided to ride it over to the welders. Not far but enough to get the feel of being on 2 wheels again.... WooHooo!!! Temps yesterday got into the 70's. I actually cracked a sweat working on the scoot in the afternoon...
  19. Knocked off #12 yesterday, #6 today! It's going to be an Orange season!
  20. I blew a valve cover gasket on my 89 VR yesterday. This is my second season riding it after it sat idle for about 13 or 14 years. Do you guys think I should just go ahead and replace all of them? I don't want to be stranded somewhere. Lucky for me yesterday I was in town, if I hadn't been on call there's no telling where I would have been. Thanks for your input, Jackie
  21. Took a while but got her done. Painted bike black has blue pearl flake and silver looks great in the sun. Put on alot of billet chrome. Black was original whine color. Got her out yesterday, had some nice weather here in Mississauga ontario at last. Screaming Red:Venture:
  22. Just curious - how many has plugged your flat tire on your car or truck ? I've been doing it for years without a failure and decided to plug my Kumho after I found that miniscule needle in it yesterday. It held 55# of pressure overnight so I have no doubt it will run it's life on my Venture. That is unless I manage to find another nail in the same tire.
  23. Just an up-date on the thumb brake installed on the quike. Quickstep had a devil of a time getting it to bleed and get the pressure up, but finally worked. It worked really well on the ride yesterday (Sunday) and isn't taking me that long to get used to. Sure is crowded on the left handlebar though To Qickstep: thanks Possum
  24. 2010 Harleys are on the showroom floor. Whats wrong with Yamaha ? People were looking and pricing and trading yesterday.
  25. What can I say. The past two weeks have been a glorious time for Eileen and I. We had to leave Vogel yesterday before the meal but we had a wonderful time. This entire trip has been fantastic. We left Ohio a little over two weeks ago and have really taken our time on this one. Been in no hurry and until yesterday, had not ridden any interstates at all except for about 15 or so miles near Memphis getting to our hotel. We have slept in most days and then done only about 350-400 miles per day most days. The rally in Arkansas was fantastic. Bill and crew did a heck of a job organizing it and I don't know how it could have been any better other than perhaps the weather being a bit cooler. Then over to Vogel where Lewis hosted his usual class act. All who helped with both rallies will be justly recognized when I get back home and have more time to get things done. Eileen and I left Vogel around noon yesterday and took a couple hours of back roads again before finally jumping on the interstate and truly heading for home. Stopped in Lexington, KY for the night and will make the final 330 mile leg home today. I hate for it to all end but that ugly 4 letter word....WORK....is screaming at me from somewhere deep inside and it must be appeased. It was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones. You are all the best and I look forward to much more in the future.
