  1. Hey Folks, Yesterday I was in a local Yamaha dealership and the manager told me that today, June 6th, Yamaha will be revealing to their dealers what the new bike lineup will be for 2013. Since I won't be back to that dealer for a week or so, I thought i would jump on here and ask if anyone has heard any news as to whether Yamaha is going to be doing any upgrades on the 2013 Venture? Anybody have a scoop on this?
  2. so we went for a ride saturday down to jasper indiana to check out obermyer yamaha and came away impressed. talked to the owner about a valve adjustment this fall and price seemed reasonable to me, evem mentioned a loaner bike since were 130 miles away, won't be a venture but something for the day while they work on the bike. he mentioned a fuel additive yamalube ring free additive, only 1 oz. for every 10 gals so i said why not, just wondering if anyone has tried it and what they thought. just filled tank and added a bit so we'll see. If your in jasper checkout obermyer, yamaha only so they know what there doing.
  3. Have a 2006 Midnight, the control head for audio will sometimes not turn on, will randomly shut itself off or will sporadically change channels. Anyone else have this issue or have experience? Should the controller be replaced or is there maybe a "cheap" fix? It started about a month after warranty went out, and local Yamaha dealer said nothing they could do - for a long while I dealt with it, but it is getting more and more "ghostly" acting over the last month. Thanks for any response
  4. Yamaha Extreme Sports in Sumter, SC is having their 11th annual open house May 5. This year event is "Cinco de Mayo", a toco flavored fest. Door prizes and demos and free dyno tests. Any proceeds will benefit the Lupus Foundation (sponsered by the Sumter STAR Touring chapter). (Also their parts dept is pretty competitive on legit internet prices, tires, OEM accessories,,,. I usually bring in a "print page".) You have probably seen several on this forum with very good things to say about this "Yamaha only" dealer. So, head on in on 5/5, 9AM to 3PM. http://www.extremesportsyamaha.com/ Mike G in SC
  5. With the next gen 2014 Goldwing just around the corner Yamaha needs to step it up!!! When will we se the next Venture? Okay about the only thing we know for sure about the 2014 Goldwing for sure is that there is going to be one, but with the introduction of the BMW K1600GTL Honda is going to step it up big time. So where does that leave Yamaha.... The Venture is a great bike but there is no way it will be able to compete with the next generation of bikes that will be showing up before to long. I have benn doing research religiously and have came up with nothing leading to a next gen Venture so I'm starting to wonder if there well even be one?
  6. Hi everyone New guy here. I have an '83 Venture Royale with factory cruise control. I need a new front brake light switch. The one I received from Yamaha has only two wires, while the existing one on the bike has 4 wires, and runs through a small block (resistor or capacitor?) before plugging into a four gang block in the headlight shell. The Yamaha dealer I spoke with couldn't find any reference to the different switch, or a part number for it. Anyone had this same problem??
  7. Hello everyone. This is my first post on your forum and I am happy I found it. 3 weeks ago Friday I bought an 08 Boulevard C50T, now I am looking at getting an 08 Venture. (Didn't take us long to realize we bought the wrong bike). My wife loves to ride, and the Venture is hands down the most comfortable bike we have sat on. I had my mind set on a GoldWing until we went to a Honda / Yamaha dealer and had a chance to sit on both. I was surprised at the Venture...so now I am shopping for one. I could use your help in my search though. How much do Yamaha dealers usually come off of MSRP and what is a fair price? I know they list at around 17.5 range. Thanks for your help.
  8. Hi Folks: Before I get started, this is a post about the whining noise but not a request for information on how to fix it , as I have read about the clutch basket, the "I" basket and square cut gears. I'm new to this site and also new to the Venture motorcycle (owned one for two days). I love the bike in every way except for the unacceptably loud whining noise. I bought m bike used from a Yamaha dealer and I'm confused by the fact that they sold it to me without mentioning this problem and they won't take it back. I just bought a 2007 Royal Star Venture (two days ago !) from a Yamaha Dealer in Connecticut (I live in NY state). I found the bike on the internet and went over there to buy it. I was told by the salesman(who was bearing the same last name as that of the dealership) that it was "the oldest Yamaha dealer in the United States, still family owned for four generations". I wanted one of these bikes for touring, having ridden one only once, a year ago. I read many reviews on the bike and many comments from owners but never ran across anyone mentioning that one of the characteristics of the bike is an annoying whining sound at highway speeds, which can be termed unbearable. In fact, the one I rode a year ago didn't do this as I would have surely noticed. I didn't notice this noise when when I test rode the bike I just bought because its most noticeable at highway speed and the salesman coerced me into NOT taking the bike on I95 because "its a zoo out there at this time of day". It was only on the way home, after buying it that this unacceptable noise became apparent. The dealer represented the bike as a one owner bike which was in perfect running condition that had been ridden for 17,000 miles - the "cherry" that we are all always looking for. I got no great deal on the bike and basically paid top dollar for it because it was coming from a genuine Yamaha dealer who said he knew the owner and was purporting that the bike was a great bike. I had no problem paying that much for a bike in such great condition. Now, the dealer is telling me that this unbearable whine is a characteristic of the bike, like "they all do that". The one I rode last year didn't do this. In all of the rave reviews I read, not one of them mention that the bike has a characteristic annoying whine, so I don't think they all do it. But, probably, many of them do - but the ones that do are broken and need the "I" clutch basket. I was able to find out that SOME Ventures do this and the problem is fixable under warranty and there is loads of information about this problem going on for many years. Either the dealer knew about this or they aren't very good at being a dealer.I threw caution to the wind as I figured IF a Yamaha dealer was willing to sell me this bike (rather than dump it out the back door to a wholesaler), then it must be as good mechanically as it looks cosmetically (the bike is basically flawless in appearance and looks like new. I complained right away to the dealer and he told me that it is a characteristic of the bike. I told him that I understand that these bikes have an inherent whine but this bike is very loud and in the unacceptable range (unsolicited, my wife asked what the annoying noise was very soon into her first ride on the bike. Its bad. The dealer told me to bring it in on Monday (2 hours away) and he will have his mechanic look at it. I've got the feeling that this isn't going to lead me anywhere and I'm going to be told it is normal. The dealer says "He can't take the bike back because its been registered " I feel that this is a load of bull because he could buy it back for a dollar - he buys bikes all of the time. I feel that he either knowingly deceived me or has made a blunder that he should make good on. What are your thoughts ? Do you think, with all that is known about this problem, that a dealer could consider a bike that exhibits this noise to be sold as "perfect - just ridden for 17,000 miles " ? If the dealer doesn't make me smile on Monday, do I have a case to bring to Yamaha Corporation ? Your thoughts, advice and suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
  9. Hello Everyone, I'm a newbie here, and to biking for that matter, but I'm about to get my feet wet in a big way. Tomorrow I pick up my first bike. I'm getting into this kinda late in life (55), but looking forward to having some fun, and making some friends. I figure motorcycles would ultimately be a cheaper mid-life crisis than a girlfriend (lol). So tomorrow I p/up a 2006 Yamaha Royal Star Midnight Tour Deluxe, it's beautiful. Heck I'll be happy just sittin on it in the garage, if it runs....all the better. Looking forward to becoming a member here, and getting to know everyone, some of you have already been a help to me in making this selection. You know, I have to say one thing, I was truly impressed at the feedback I heard on this board about the Yamaha brand, and especially the RSTD, it really solidified my choice in bikes. Thanks Everyone & stay vertical !
  10. I am having the tires replaced on my 1987 Yamaha Venture Royale. It there any maintance I should have done while the wheels are off?

  12. Went for a nice 5 hour ride today. I notice a little oil on the left brake caliper. Sure enough Its a leaking fork seal. So I say to Robin, I'm going to start tearing down the front fairing so I can pull the forks. She said take it to Lane Yamaha. I said how come, I can do this. She said... Not if I want to stay married:think: See my problem. Anyone know what it will cost to have the dealer do this job?
  13. Just wondering if these mufflers would work on my venture. There from a '80's Yamaha. These are for sale in my city for $45.
  14. After all I read about our whining problem, nothing seams to have made much sense:think: until now. I read this TECH Q&A in Rider magazine and thought some one else may be interested. Q: / recently purchased a used, one-owner 2007 Yamaha Royal Star Venture with the 1,300cc V-4 engine, still under factory warranty with 7,000 miles on it, I discovered (only after I brought it home and began to ride it) that as the engine speed increases there is an annoying "whine" to the motor. I have talked to two other Venture owners about this, and whine is so loud you can't hear the radio! Is this something I should take back to the dealer to have looked at, or is this truly a whine I have to live with? By the way, the noise is in the engine— not the drivetrain—because it is noticeable in neutral as the motor is revved. Dave Sugarbaker, Via E-mail A: The kind of noise you're describing usually comes from straight-cut gears, and the Venture has two sets: the gear pair that drives the clutch and the pair that drives the balancer shaft. The primary gears—the ones that drive the clutch—seem to be the problem here. Most manufacturers address the noise issue by using helical-cut gears (teeth that are at an angle rather than parallel to the shaft) or split gears (gear pairs that are slightly offset and spring loaded). Now, by using straight-cut gears, Yamaha has made accuracy in the machining of the gears highly critical. A driven gear (the one on the clutch hub) that's just a couple of thousandths of an inch too big will make a lot more noise. As with all mass-produced machinery there's a plus and minus tolerance, and ideally the gears will be matched so the tooth engagement is just right. The engineers have probably made sure that even if you got two "big" gears there would be enough tolerance in the shaft bearings that it wouldn't cause a bearing failure.I suggest you take your bike in to your favorite Yamaha dealer and get it looked at while it's still under warranty. Even if the mechanic can't find the problem (using Plastigauge to measure the clearance and then actually finding a specification to compare it to), you'll have documentation and if something breaks later you'll have something to fall back on.
  15. Anybody deal with Yamaha Sports Plaza in Fairview OR. I ordered some parts from them, and wonder how they are to deal with. They claim to be the biggest in NA, but they did take my money before they had all the parts together.... so I was just wondering.
  16. After some winter maintenance, I started the bike up for a short test drive. When I came back, coolant was leaking pretty badly from the weep hole under the water pump. Guess its time for a rebuild... After searching the forums last night, I haven't seen a complete parts lists or technical aid anywhere, so thought I'd try to document it all in one place. A couple questions: 1. I found in another post that P/N: 1FK-12450-00-00 is the newer metal impeller and that the plastic one was only used on MKI 1st gens. Can anyone (or a few people) confirm that this is indeed the metal replacement? I went through several years of bikes on Part Shark and they all listed this same P/N, but didn't indicate it as a replacement for obsolete part, which raised some suspicion. 2. Should I replace the thermostat too? 3. How do I get the water pump housing off without breaking the 90 degree plastic elbow joint between the thermostat and pump housing? Does it just slide/press in with the O-ring? Is it best to pull it out of the thermostat housing when pulling the pump housing off the case? Does it come easily or is there a safe method to pry/pull on it? 4. Is it necessary to replace the plastic gear (item 4)? I assume its worth $14 since I'll have it all apart, but just checking. 5. Will oil come out (do I need to drain oil) when I pull the water pump housing off the case? 6. What is item 3's purpose (Pin, dowel)? Should I replace that? Is it pressed in? 7. I'm planning to replace all the parts below. Am I missing anything? 8. I've read that success rate on a rebuild is not good. What are common mistakes or causes for this? What do I need to watch out for? Thanks in advance, everyone! Does anyone know...

I was wondering if anyone knows of a site or forum that tells which parts and accessories are interchangable between motorcycle models? Such as what Harley parts fit the RSTD or Venture. I know some parts/ accessories in the Yamaha line fit each other. It would be a big help if this info were in one place. If anyone has mixed or matched parts please let us know. Thanks
  18. Had to run by the local Yammy shop to pick up oil and filter for the scoot. Saw a new 2012 Victory Cross Country Tour. Randy said take it around the block while I get your stuff. BIG mistake. My RSV has power, but this thing could scare the bejeebers out of me. Wish Yamaha would get it together and update. If I had the extra cash I might be riding something different today, but mines paid for. Anyone else ride it and like it? Or am I just slobbering over something that won't last.
  19. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyxbhOYlCQM]Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 - YouTube[/ame]. looks capable to me!
  20. It was sure great to see the Midnight Venture there! It might not be New but it's still cool....and had lots of lookers and setters.....I don't know what year it came back but the bright black dash sure looks good being shiny black again....when did that happen? I think Yamaha had the biggest area there too.:Venture:I was kinda hoping they'd replace the cassette with an 8 track but nooooo!
  21. Susan found this for me today on ebay, and I figured I better run it by you fellers before buying it. There is precious little info like dimensions, etc. but the price is right, and it is stainless, so no issue with cheap chrome. I'd rather have the Yamaha part, but they are pretty $$$pendy... I DO know the dimensions, by the way, and it looks like it should fit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/260936394379?item=260936394379&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123&vxp=mtr#ht_4044wt_1185 Thanks for your time. Bert
  22. Don't know if any one has noticed the price drop on the Venture in Canada.... Taken from Cycle Canada Site.... Yamaha Motor Canada has announced sizeable price reductions on many of their 2012 motorcycles, including models like the Raider, V-Star 950 and R1. This brings suggested retail pricing on Canadian products more in line with U.S. prices, says Yamaha. “Due to market fluctuations and inventory levels, we weren’t able to address the pricing gaps of the last few years as quickly as we would have liked,” commented Peter Swanton, National Sales Manager, Motorsports for Yamaha Canada. “But to kick off 2012, we’re well positioned to bring about this price reduction. Yamaha customers can now get many models for the same price they would have paid 7 or 8 years ago, even with the product technological advances that have happened in the meantime.” While prices for some machines remain unchanged, many key models will have significant reductions, says Yamaha. For example the Royal Star Venture S's current price of $23,899 drops to $19,999, a $3,900 difference, and the FJR 1300 drops $3200 to $16,999. If it's a litrebike you're interested in, Yamaha's newly traction controlled R1 is now $1,800 cheaper at $14,999.
  23. Several years ago my CB antenna snapped off my 06 RSV as I understand has happened to most RSV owners. I understand that the Yamaha antenna has 8m stud and most available antennas have 3/8" stud. I read somewhere that Firestik made a adaptor for this, model K-1A8M. I cannot find any mention of it on their website or anyone that sells it. Sierra Electronics makes an adaptor for Harley, but nothing for Yamaha. Could I buy a standard 3/8" fold over adaptor and rethread the male end to 8m x 1.25 and make this work with a Firestik Firefly antenna?
  24. I need a brake light switch for the front brake master cylinder. This is for a 84 Venture Royale with cruise control. Does anyone know the part number and if it still can be purchased thru Yamaha? I think I read somewhere that you needed a four wire switch when having cruise. Thanks
  25. Hello, Being new here, it looks as though I originally posted a question in the wrong section. Freebird sent a Utopia link in response to this, but I am still looking for something more like the Markland or Ventureline product. Now that I have found the correct location, here is the post again. Hi, I am new here, and am hoping that someone might be able to help me out. In 1983, I bought a brand new 1983 Yamaha Venture. Bright red, and nothing special. Over the years, I have added a Ventureline driver's seat backrest and luggage rack, and an aftermarket radio from Best Buy. I still have the bike, and ride it regularly. It seems to put a lot of newer bikes to shame in terms of handling and engine performance. Brand new, out the door, it only cost a fraction of what bikes cost now. Here is why I joined this board. My son has followed in my footsteps, and this last summer, he purchased a 1983 Yamaha Venture too (see pic). First thing that we noticed, was that all 1983 Ventures are not the same. Things like clock location, anti-glare glass, helmet holders, turn signal cancelling switch type, and other little knick knacks, are different. The one thing that he would like to be the same though, is that he would like to have a backrest for the driver seat. He currently lives four hours away from home, and he enjoys riding the Venture when he visits. I would like to buy a backrest for his Venture as a Christmas present, but have come up against a wall of stone. Nobody seems to carry them anymore for a 1983 XVZ1200. I tried Markland, Babbit's, E-bay, Google, Craig's list, the local Yamaha shop (Ventureline), and several aftermarket shops. Nobody can even give me any leads. At this point, I would be happy to find even a used backrest. Can anybody give any suggestions? Thank you, Greg
