  1. Hi Everyone New to the Venture scene, been on Harleys for years and wore the last one out and decided to upgrade to something different. Bought a recovered bike, that was in Dallas, flew down and picked it up on a Thursday afternoon and was home in Corbett OR Sunday night. 2500+ miles and my back side didn't hurt when I got home, marvelous! Worse problem was keeping a radio station in tune. 2 things I'm in need of the left side motor guard, and the windshield cowling, this is a 2004. Is there a good place to look for salvaged parts or to buy new at a discount? (besides Ebay) Latr Chris
  2. Today i put the tci from my 93 into my 90 started right way so that was the problem sure a pain to do but now both will be on top of the airbox. Mine acted up for years it had a burp but then lately is been getting worse finally 3 weeks ago it quite for good. now well ride it like we stole it. Is there someone out there that repairs them, would like to get that bad one fixed... THANKS YOOPER
  3. I couldn't find anything on this in the searches I did....so here goes. I have noticed at slow speeds where my steering lightly locks. It is in the straight position and is a noticeable "slot" where it requires more pressure to turn it. It is getting to be annoying at slow speeds. Took a weekend trip and it seemed worse this past weekend. I have tightened the steering head a while back and the bounce when it's in the air is still on the loose side. Any info would be appreciated.
  4. Not give up riding. Had you going. No I gave up smoking. Been smoking since I was 19, Cold turkey. Had to go back to Sacramento,Ca. to finish up on some workers comp test they wanted. On the way there I got sick. It got worse. I spent 3 days in my motel room coughing and sleeping. and just trying to get better. Did my test. Didn't get to see any friends while I was there as I was affraid that I would get them sick. Off and on I would try to have a cigarette. Well it didn't work, made things worse .Coughing was harder and ribs began to hurt as if I had fallen down and cracked them. Well, That did it for me. It has been a little over 2 weeks and haven't picked one up yet. I am still coughing but not like I was then. Guess my lungs are cleaning them selves up. The urge is still there and will probably will always be there. But then I think......Do I want 40 more years of riding or a short life of hacking and coughing and being put in the ground six feet under OR would I rather ride and have the air going around me then be sitting in some hospital with a tube up my nose. Also I would like more time with the family. Bottom line. Besides, I told the wife that what I save in not buying cigarettes, I can buy goodies for the bike. LOL. Be safe Bill
  5. On my last two long rides, I had a cruise control problem that seemed to get worse (more frequent and consistent) as I rode. It got so that after about 5-10 minutes on cruise, it would pop out again. It would do this at different cruise speeds and while it initially seemed worse under load (on hills), it got so that it acted similar when not under load. It acted like I had cancelled the cruise setting. The on indicator light went off and the resume light came on when this happened as if I had hit the cancel switch. I could resume cruise but the problem would reoccur again after some more miles. I read with interest dingy's post yesterday on cleaning the switch which I understand could help. However, could this be just a vacuum leak that gets worse depending on load etc. and if so, is there a most likely location for that leak?
  6. On 9-11 I was exercising at work and tore my bicep in my right arm. The muscle pulled loose from the bone in my forearm. I am about to go nuts not being able to ride. I get some comfort just listening to her run though. I'll be out of commission until somewhere in Dec. This really sucks!! It's getting worse everyday. Just needed to vent. I'm doing great really. It does make you appreciate having good health and all your limbs working.
  7. lately my bike seems to have a mind of it's own when it comes to going straight. I have checked the tires, made sure the front fork pressure is even, snugged up the steering head and it just seems to be getting worse. Any idea of what I should check next would be appreciated.
  8. Ok guys: All of you that are running Bubs; were you checking your fuel mileage before you installed the Bubs, and have you checked the mileage after installing the Bubs? If so; was it worse or better? Also where did you find the best price? Thanks.
  9. Ever since the sinus surgery that is. But one side effect... my gas smells a lot worse! I'm gonna have to give the Doc hell for that!
  10. New member here. I'm needing to find a mech. around Logan Ohio that can get my carbs right. I've owned the bike since last May. When I first got it it was low on power so I took it to a mechanic but it was worse. Took it to another shop and the bike still wasn't right. Took it to an old school shop and it ran much better but still seemed low on power and would shake under load, but after 3 shops I drove it like it was and the bike served me well. 20,000 mile later it had less power and the fuel mileage dropped. I called around but noone seemed to be interested in working on it so I made a manometer and tried to sync them myself but made it worse. Can someone suggest a good mechanic or fellow venture owner that has a carbtune and knows how to adjust in my area. It's an 1983
  11. Will try to post this photo OK!! it worked--- Delta Airlines Recent lighting Strike--- I worked on a lot of planes with Strikes over the years, but thats the biggest hole I ever saw. Not to say there has not been worse.
  12. I'm assuming that most regular readers of this forum have read about Eck's close call in this thread. I've been thinking about this all night and getting sicker and sicker about what happened. Folks, this world seems to be getting worse and worse....How can someone do this to someone else? Scripture says that "in the last days the love of many will grow cold"....Yep, for sure we see that happening. This creep that ran Eck down cares nothing for others. And the scary thing is that he's not alone... Several people have suggested to Eck that he go to the TV stations and ask them to run a news report on this situation, and to offer a reward for information leading to the arrest of this jerk. I want to add my support to that idea. He needs to be caught and soon. I've been thinking......there are over 6000 members of this VR Family, and roughly 150 of us have posted to Eck's original thread. If we all chipped in a few bucks to a reward fund we could come up with enough to get someone's attention. Hey, we ALL can afford something....let's face it, most of us have expensive hobbies....bikes, hunting, fishing, boating, golf, etc....it wouldn't hurt us to part with a few bucks for such a fund. I don't know how to go about implementing this....maybe a PayPal collection? Yeah, that could work. I even have a PP account that could be used. I am willing to start it off if any of the rest of you are interested. I will start it with $10 toward the fund..... IF it's ok with ECK. So..., Eck what do you say? Please give this some consideration, and LET US HELP! Your family wants to be involved. Chime in folks. Joe
  13. i was just thinking, i think i deserve an award. this has been one rough road to hoe, being a nice guy, not living up to my name, (snarley bill), being non political, not being offended by wing , crotchrocket jokes, and all the other thinks that really po me. worse than quitting smoking. what does everyone think. haven't i really been good lately? surely you all have noticed. it's the new mr. bill. :clap2::rotf: be nice it is valentines day
  14. I went this week for a hearing test. I knew that I had a High frenquency loss since that is why I had a medical discharge from the Army. It has gotten worse over the years and my wife ,daughter and even my son/n law were on me to get it checked. I have "ski slope" moderate to severe loss. The higher the sound the worse it is. Now the question is the Audiologist recommended some 16 channel digital aids for 2000 each. I have done some searches online and have found some companies with12,16 & even 32 channel ones for about 1/2 this price. But I have no idea whether these other companies are better or worse since I'v had no experience with aids before. They all show 45 days trial periods, and have anywhere from 2 to 3 year warrenty.Anyone here have any experience with hearing aids and have good or bad things you know about em? I may end up having to spend 4000 on a set but that would buy a lot of toys if I didn't have to spend that much. TIA Craig
  15. I don't know if this is a "known issue" or not but thought it was worth mentioning. I justy picked up my '07 RSV (450 miles) from the Yamaha service department. I noticed a coolant drip from between the cylinders and brought 'er in. One of the heads needed to be re-torqued. As it was it was only a minor inconvenience but could have been worse if undiscovered or it got worse when I was away from home. Just thought I'd see if this had ever been an issue with anyone else. Randy in PA
  16. Is there any way to adjust the throttle tension? I don't know if it's gotten dirt in the cable or if something else is happening but it is getting worse. I've got a throttle rocker on it, but its getting so hard to turn it's not much help. Thanks.
  17. No, not on the bike. I was pouring concrete at my house wed. with my wife and son helping. Just 7 yd. but the last half was getting tough to drag and I ended up on my knees. The knees began to hurt I thought from the rocks but when we got thru I could barely walk and when I changed pants, realized something worse had happened. Concrete has alkaline in it and I ended up with 2nd degree burns on my knees and about 5 inches down my legs. So needless to say I have been in some pain the last few days and haven't been on the site. Not only that but wed. eve. we had tornados and the power was off until last night. One neigobor lost a roof and a trailer destroyed down the road with a lot of trees and power lines down. Anyway that's enough crying on your shoulders, it's getting better, according to the doc it could have been a lot worse.

    Very bad song

A while back there was a thread asking what is the WORSE song that you have ever heard. Well....this is not the WORSE but it is very close to it. Plus, it is about riding and playing the guitar...two things that I really enjoy. So without further ado....I give you Arlo Guthrie and his motorcycle song. True Friendship?

Would you call your best bikin buddy over to help you get out of a jam even though you knew ahead of time that he was going to laugh at you for how you got into that jam?? Worse yet...how about if he'd only agree to help you if you posted pictures of the jam you got yourself into? PS: both tires are in the air!
