1. Do you have a riding season? I will probably have the scoots winterized by Dec 1. Sometimes it's Nov 1. Not so much the cold as those fall rains bringing the creek up. April usually brings enough warmth to get things moving again. The Weather channel is calling for a unusually cold and snowy winter for the east. You guys in New York get any snow last night? Our forecast is calling for snow showers next week. It could be a long winter nothing to do but bash on those second gen's.
2. yeap, Winter has arrived. Maybe not for some of you yet, or perhaps never for others, all depends on where you live I guess, however, it has arrived for me. I was on the way to Renton WA with my big rig , driving thru Billings Montana ,when I got the supprise visit of a foot of snow. I don't scare easily but I knew this was nothing to fool around with. Blowing snow (30 mile an hr winds), made it very hard to see anything. I'm happy to report that I made my destination. Just not looking forward to my return trip to Minneapolis, which brings me right back through that mess. Well, to all of you, STAY WARM, BUNDLE UP, WINTER IS HERE!!!
3. well i never thought i'd see it but i guess i am going to have learn texen , i think i have a good start , i open doors for the ladies and try not to be rude , but i am getting funny looks when i am riding , could it be the t shirt , shorts and topsiders shoes ? got asked where i am from , said outside Daytona than i was asked what state is that in ? here snowbirds are not called snowbrids they are called winter Texens , i think that is cool . i think i am going to like it here but i need to find the hill country it is flater here than Fla. ! and every sharp turn has a stop sign . well a least i will not freeze . Thom
4. Finally after being down for over a year I finally rolled the scoot out and took her for her first ride since she was wrecked in the accident last sumer when a guy run me of the road, and it felt GGGGGGRRREAT!!!! I was a little nervous at 1st not trusting any cage wthin 100 yards of me but it wasn't long and soon I felt right at home. I still have a few chrome pcs to put on but i have all winter for that. It was a little dishearting when I rolled out the scoot at the same time as my nieghbour rolled out his snow blower to get it ready for winter however, but I intend to make the most of the time we have left. I remembered the rule so here are the pics. i repaired all the fairings with plastex. the left one is actually made up of sections from my old one and part of a damaged used one welded together with plastex. then i sanded it all down and repainted everything. I must admit if one takes the time to look they will see the paint job is not perfect but since I am not a painter I cant complain. More importantly I am riding again :dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool:
5. well i have completed my winter project four years in the making. built a v-twin powered prototype cushman eagle for a machinist friend of mine, with a one off fourspeed transmission that we designed and built from scratch. the whole scooter is hand made and i built it from scratch. he is now manufacturing these transmissions and primary drivetrains. i put my all in this project, and when the day came to start it up and ride it i was really apprehensive. well, i took it for a test ride down my street and it actually worked and shifted great. very fast. it has a briggs vanguard 630 cc v-twin which i built with dual mikuni's. j&e pistons ported with a reground cam. very fast will top 100 mph . you can see a picture of it at http://www.reisstoolandmachine.com anyway looking for a new project for this winter. any ideas. had a vakyrie pass me yesterday on the highway and i had this brainstorm that i have never seen an 1800 gold wing cuiser. maybe i could find a salvage one for a start. i think it would look cool and different. got a few things to wrap up on my zx14 but that should'nt take long. just digging for ideas. bill
6. Are there any special proceedures needed to store the Venture away for the winter? Do I need to run the carbs dry, or can I just condition the fuel? Other than keeping the battery charged, and I dont run the carbs dry, should I start it once in awhile in the winter months? Thanks in advance for the helpful information
7. Has anyone tried to mount a Goldwing seat on a VR? I was looking at GW1500 seats today on ebay and they look very comfy. I realize I'll have to move the trunk back. Might look for a cheap deal and try it this winter. Roger
8. Is it safe to put a battery maintainer on this type battery during the Winter months? Comments welcomed! Regards.........Boomer
9. Long story short...I need to free up garage space this winter for my car. (Yes, I am planing ahead) I need some storage suggestions for my RSV. Has anyone used this? I am a little concerned as to how this will hold up to an Illinois winter. http://www.cycleshelter.com/ Do you have any other suggestions? Due to ordinance restrictions in my sub-division, I can't build another shed in my back yard, so it has to be a "movable structure" if it's in my yard. I appreciate any other suggestions.
10. Hi everyone, hope your winter was special, Yeah Right. Michigan , well stunk, I can only imagine our Minnesota brethren's. Yikes or Wisconsin. Anyhow down to the Brass Tax , I need the links to our preferred business links we used to have the (brake pads., back rest, clutch suppliers) . We had a link to an ohio based dealer whom I purchased pads an Harley License plate bracket from with good results. I might have winter brain damage but cannot seem to find those links. Any help is much appreciated in advance, also the Avon Venom new tyre codes for the smaller front tire , rear tire combo. I just want to make sure by checking with the Group. Thanks in advance.
11. I'm talking to you folks who have to put your scoot up for the winter. I am just getting over a really bad bout of gout and just today rode my RSV for the first time in 3 weeks, gosh it felt so good to be back on her. I was going NUTZ without riding and that was just 3 weeks. I can't imagine what an entire winter would be like. Actually I lied, I did get a test ride in on Saturday albeit a short one to test my ankle. I live on the East coast of NC and our winters are moderate enough. There have been some cold days and I have ridden 50 to work in 17 degree temps, but for the most part the days haven't been too terrible this past winter. You folks must be going stir crazy. My heart goes out to you.
12. It's been a long cold winter here in Chicagoland and I was quite ready to ride a couple of weeks ago when the weather shot up to the 60s. Alas, I hadn't been as vigilant as I should have been and the 5 year old battery was kaput. "Well" I said, "I'll just go buy me a new one." Doh! Bought the battery, filled the fluid, put the batter on charge for the recommended 20 hours at 1.5 amps. Battery charged, replaced, bolts tightened, and... nothing. No response at all. Well that just tears it. This weekend I'm takin' it to the dealer and letting him play with it. I'm no mechanic and even if I was I just don't have the time or patience to deal with this sort of thing. No doubt it's something trivial, but it would take me two weeks to figure it out and another 2 weeks fixing the holes in the garage walls where the wrenches flew. The moral of the story: keep the *%#$@@ battery on a charger over the winter if you're too *#$@@ lazy to go out once a week and start the poor beast. I hate winter in Illinois... and Indiana... and Michigan... and Wisconsin... and....
13. Looks like I will be converting my 1st Gen into a trike this winter, and I need to know what kits are available for this?
14. Well my 1986 venture has been in the garage on her centre stand most of the winter, start her up once every 2 weeks(approx.) let her warm up to turn on the electric cooling fans sometimes.. However today I was cleaning the garage so she had to move out, and when I put her in first gear and pulled away a small puddle of coolant spilled out from the lower fairing, from the forward motion...Now I checked the overflow tube for the rad and it doesn't seem to drain in that area, hope I am wrong, anyone else have this happen during winter storage...? Garage only hit -10 celcius maybe for 3-5 days, normally at 0 degrees or above...
15. Bumped.. Thought I'd bump this up before checking out ebay. I pulled my bike out of storage today to start a couple of jobs it needs before riding season. Well I removed the luggage and found the back half of the left saddlebag broken with a large piece on the floor. It must have been hit by me over the winter but I don't remember doing it. Anyway if someone has this for an 84 and wants to get rid of it I'll take it off your hands for a reasonable amount . Thanks Rick
16. here's some pics of one of my winter toys. just a few more things to wrap up. still have to install my extended swing arm.
17. Spring time is here. The bike is back out. I've gone through three or four tanks of gas now, so the gas stabilizer is well flushed out of the tank, carbs, and all the lines. But I still have some remaining unused gas stabilizer in the bottle on the shelf. Is there anything I can do to keep this stuff from going bad before next winter as it sets in the bottle doing nothing? I don't want to find a bottle of gummy varnish that needs cleaned out next winter when it's storage time again. Should I put some gas in the bottle and top it off, so that there's no air in the bottle to break down the gas stabilizer? In short, I just want to know how to stabilize the gas stabilizer for the summer storage months.
18. This was a project that I was going to do in the winter but it was so cold most of the winter I didn't feel like it. Today after work I fired up the wood stove in the garage and started in. I finished changing the coolant, the spark plugs. and flushed the brake fluid in both the front and rear. I took the coolant reservoir off and cleaned it all out also. The coolant was really in pretty good shape but thought it was time after 38,000 miles. I actually enjoy working on the bike now and can take the time and not be rushed as when I was a kid. It was not a bad job at all for those that may be wanting to but are hesitant because of never doing it before. I am ready for the riding season to be here. Take care.
19. well spring is here in mn and i'm finally getting my bike together after fixing the tranny this winter. the motor's been sitting on my workbench mostly is pieces for a good part of the winter so I plan on putting clean oil in for the first start up, running it for 10-20 min the changing the oil and filter. I'm thinking about just puting regular 5w-30 in the first strat up since i have plenty of it around and it's alot cheaper than yama oil. anybody think that presents any problem's?

winter

Ok, I love riding my bike which is a summer thing. That being said there are other things to do which are only done in the winter. If the winter is snowy enough we like to build snow sculptures in our front yard. This endeavor requires many hands, shovels, rakes as it takes. Meaning any nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts or friends help for about 4 to 6 hours to transform a lump of snow to whatever we all agree upon. Try that in the south. Another winter endeavor we have is the fun {thats right fun} of sledding down a 1 mile hill. Their is nothing else short of riding our bikes that will put a smile on your face any quicker. Tonight I went to my brother -in- laws. He has been making Maple syrup for 12 years but tonight the conditions were perfect for fresh snow and the first batch of maple syrup. If you've never had this concoction you will never know the explosion of taste that this will leave on your mind. It's no wonder that making Maple syrup goes way back in time. Even though we b-t-h about a ice storm I have to tell you there is nothing more beautiful. When the sun shines upon everything covered in ice.... Its like mother nature adorned in diamonds. Cold, When you first step out into a bitter cold morning and take that first deep breath. Your definitely awake! That all being said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WINTER SUCKS!!!!!!!!! IT LASTS TO LONG!!!!! ITS COLD!!!! THE DA_N SNOW JUST WON'T QUIT! ISN'T IT BEAUTIFUL!!! :confused24::rotfl:
21. I usually do my own front end alignments on my cars. Given that riding season is coming upon us before too long, I thought it would be a good time to do the same on my bike after its winter sleep. But as yet, I'm unable to find the caster and camber adjustments. Where are the daggone things on this bike?
22. It's 7:58pm and it's minus 28 C :cold::bawling::bawling:
23. Thought I would let you know I got my trailer home yesterday 6x12 Haulmark. My 04 Olds Bravada pulled it like a dream. Plenty of power and I got 15 MPG while towing the 100 miles home. I bet I don't get stuck in an IL winter next year! Kbran, you better get ready next winter. I might be heading your way.
