1. but than again who knows. Put on my new windshield last weekend and have not had a chance to try it out. Here's hoping today is the day!
2. I am retired Navy and need to have a new decal put on my Venture. Previously it was on the windshield, but I had a new one made, which my wife doesn't like because its to low. So I would like to mount the decal some where else on the bike as I will probably be changing out the windshield occassionally. But no on the sheet metal preferably. Does anyone know of something that will work on the Venture? Any military out there who have dealt with this or something similar? Thanks
3. my 01 rsv that i bought a month ago came with a short windshield, not usre how tall it is but probably the shortest one they make, too short for me i get a lot of head buffeting. but I don't want one so tall I can't see over it. do they make one 2 or 3 inches shorter than oem. any suggestions would be appreciated.
4. Does anyone make one? Have been looking but to no avail. Seems to me it wouldn't be that hard to do: An aluminum channel same shape and thickness as the bottom of our stock windshield about 3 inches wide with receiver lugs in a channel on top side. top piece would sandwich bottom of stock windshield on top side and fit into reciever on bottom side with a quick release. Could also make a interlocking finger pattern between the two with one set screw. Hardest part would be getting the perfect bend. Love my windshield on the cooler days and interstate riding, but when it gets to 90 deg... At slower speeds it sure would be nice to take it off ... and possibly put it in fabricated shell that attaches to your luggage rack to protect it... Help I need more Wind! er... let me rephrase that... Help I need more AIR... LOL
5. Installed my new F4 windshield today. It's the wide version, 2" inches taller than stock with vent. Really impressed with clarity, thickness, and lack of buffeting after install. It was nice not dealing with looking through the top edge of stock windshield.
6. finally got to take my bike out with the new F4 windshield.....for anyone that's around 6 ft tall and gets head buffeting with a stock height windshield and wants to stop it, this shield , which is 2 inches longer than stock and much wider, ...works..
7. Finally bought a 2008 venture. I'm looking for a low windshield. Anyone have one to sell? Must be like new. I don't want any defects. Thank you.
8. Put new graphics on the bike, It really looks good.Hundred bucks well spent. Now I need to find out the member who does the windshield leather work.......Ron
9. I put a new windshield on my bike this weekend and took the opportunity to split the faring for the first time. Figured since it's an '03 that all the connectors in there, etc would need some attention. The first surprise was the chrome windshield trim still had all the tabs intact, couldn't believe it after the stories I've read on here. Second surprise was that it was spotless inside, all of the connectors were clean and in great shape. I did hit all of them with a little dielectric grease since I was already in there. Needless to say, I was doing the happy dance.
10. just got off the phone with dave at f4 windshields....and wanted to say how nice they are there and what they're doing for me.....i have a clearview windshield with the vent.......i need the tallest windshield out there and f4's is 1 inch taller than the tallest clearview....i already have a vent so they are shipping me the shield with the vent hole cut out, and a new faceplate, around.....plus 10% off......nice to work with ...the clearview people are good too....
11. Hey guys I am fairly fresh to the site. i couldnt find a classifieds section so if there is one ( moderator please move this for me) i have a windshield that is too short for me and was wondering if anyone had a larger one to sell or trade for a smaller one. Its in great condition with few light swirl marks. It came with my bike but I feel bad buffeting at 65 and above. Jose
12. Ok first the good...built my bracket and harness for the stebel airhorn. Works great and since I had it and the aluminum stock laying around it cost zero dollars. Now the BAD. I attacked the job of splitting the fairing yesterday to find the previous owner had glued the chrome windshield mole on because one of the end tabs was broken. I see no choice but to buy it and it looks like 140 bucks or so! crappy design! Also I see that my windshield retaining strip like some others on here was assembled and the 2 center bolts left out. It's under warranty but with the broken chrome I am sure this will somehow be my fault. The whole thing makes me sick... anyone ever have to have stuff like that handled under warranty? It also looks like there may be some seeping around the rear diff mounting flange. On the plus side... we did go for a 120 mile ride today... I was staring at the tape holding the chrome on the whole time :-( Frank
13. Anyone know what the standard size of the windshield is and what is the tallest and widest shield I can get and where from???? star4772
14. will a tank cover and windshield off an 85 fit my 83.
15. Ok on my 83 I have a few things I want to clean up for looks. One is on the right side cove. The tab on the tail of the fairing broke so the previous owner just duck taped it in place. I can fix the tab but how do I remove the tape remains without damaging the paint? The second is the windshield, it has like a mild fog to it. How can I get it nice and clear again? Or should I just get a new one? The third is the aluminum has a white oxidation, what do you recomend to remove this and protect it? Thank You, Shaun
16. I recently purchased an F4 Customs windshield...and am EXTREMELY happy with it, except for one little (very minor) thing. I have searched the internet till I am tired...and I KNOW how to search...but still can't find the info I am looking for. OK...so here's the info I am needing. I looked at my STOCK WINDSHIELD to see how the tint strip was laid down and this is what I found out... The first layer is a FLAT BLACK layer of TAPE that is 1.25 inches wide. And on top of that and overlapping the black is another 1.25 inch of clear tape with black dots of graduated sizes (which screens the light)...just like you see on cars. I have tried to find this "tape" or "tapes" on the net and can't find it anywhere, in fact, I don't even know the terminology to use...so if you look at your stock shield, you'll see what I am talking about. Can anyone provide any info? Thanks. Wally
17. I just saw this ad on E-Bay for a 2005 Royal Star Tour Deluxe Windshield with lowers, Starting bid is $499.99, and in his ad it says that it retails for $3000.00,... Is that actually possible..? Just curious.. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Tour-Deluxe-Windshield-/150559219954?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item230e0760f2
18. Trust me, if you have a 2nd Gen, you DO have broken tabs on the inner fairing where the ends of the windshield bracket SHOULD be attached! Even if your bike is quite new, they are broken. Here is a picture of what the tabs should look like - I'm holding the broken back piece to show how it would look if it was actually there: I'm sure Yamahaha would replace the inner fairing under warranty for this, but frankly, I don't want them to rip my bike apart to do it when the new ones will just break in the first week anyway. The relatively easy solution is to make a brace that will run from the bottom screw on the speaker to the screw in the windshield bracket. When positioned correctly, this will clamp the windshield bracket against the tiny bit of the tab that remains and stop all motion. To start with, you will need a couple of metal straps - they cannot be too thick, but must be more sturdy than hardware tape. I found this bracket in the framing section of the hardware store and just cut the two pieces off: Put one end on the speaker screw and then cut the bracket to the exact length that will just fit under the top lip of the inner fairing. You will have to use a pair of pliers to twist and curve the strap to fit flush against the rubber grommet that holds the nut. The correct position for the windshield bracket is to have the metal piece behind the fairing tabs, and the front lip of the rubber grommet on the outside of the tab. Here are a couple of pictures of how it should be positioned: In other words, if the tab was still in one piece, it would slide over the groove in the rubber grommet on the outside of the metal windshield bracket. You will need to make sure the windshield bracket is properly positioned on the remaining piece of the tab before you can mark the correct position for the screw hole in the new brace. Here are pictures of the brace before I cut it to length, the finished brace before mounting, and then a couple of different shots of the brace all fastened in place. Once you have those new braces in place they work like clamps and everything is rock solid.
19. I hope this helps anyone getting ready to order a windshield. This is just info. I ordered an F4 17 1/2 extra wide "no vent" last week and it came last week. Fast shipping:cool10: A mistake was made and they sent me a windshield with a vent hole but no vent. I called and they said they will ship me another one and they would pay for shipping both ways. So far so good. I got my windshield yesterday with in three days and installed it today. Now comes the info for those looking for a new shield. I had ordered 3 years ago a Wide Yamaha shield. It was too tall for me so I cut it down to 17". The measurement was from right behind the gas cap straight up to the top of the windshield. I could see over the windshield with about 3" to spare. I liked it. I am 5'10 1/2" If you look at Yamaha's windshields in their book, you will notice they have a black haze at the bottom. That is there for a reason. I know this because. The F4 that I installed today doesn't have that feature. With out it you can see down behind the windshield and see stuff you ought not to see even with the chrome piece installed. I took the chrome back off a took a black magic marker "for now" and colored the bottom and it helped. Come spring, I will mask and paint it or what ever? Also the 17 1/2 shield now measures 22" high form behind the gas cap to top of windshield. It is also 1 1/4 wider each side than Yamaha's extra wide shield. This may not be the so called "right way" to measure but, it will let you know how I measured mine and I was happy with the 17". I will have to wait until the weather breaks here in Michigan before I will know if I like it or not. I already miss the black haze at the bottom and I can always cut the shield down if I don't like looking through it. Just food for thought.
20. Got my new (to me) windshield in the mail today! (thanks oldbear!). Decided since it warmed up to 13 degrees today, I would get out there in the garage and install the windshield...while I was at it I went ahead and installed my new windblocker (to keep the air off of my knees) that my dad got me for Christmas. Here's a pic of them installed and the difference in the windshields...
21. A new soldier was on sentry duty at the main gate. His orders were clear. No car was to enter unless it had a special sticker on the windshield. A big Army car came up with a general seated in the back. The sentry said, "Halt, who goes there?" The chauffeur, a corporal, says, "General Wheeler." "I'm sorry, I can't let you through. You've got to have a sticker on the windshield." The general said, "Drive on!" The sentry said, "Hold it! You really can't come through. I have orders to shoot if you try driving in without a sticker." The general repeated, "I'm telling you, son, drive on!" The sentry walked up to the rear window and said, "General, I'm new at this. Do I shoot you or the the driver?"
22. Looking for a new windshield for the bike. I still have the original installed but want something else. I have heard that they can delaminate if they are cut down. So far I have seen the windshield from Slip Strreamer or Clearview. Any thoughts or preference on those two? Open to something else as well. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!
23. Anyone ever have this issue? See pics. What's odd is that the DEALER (who remains nameless at this point) said he replaced the complete INNER FAIRING piece about 6 weeks ago (under warranty) to resolve the exact same issue. I cracked the fairing to replace a stereo cable...and low and behold...the windshield bracket-to-inner-fairing mounts are completely broken. Thoughts? Is this a COMMON issue that all RSVs have? Or am I just "lucky"?
24. Well I decided to cut my OEM windshield down to 10" so that I could see over instead of having to look thru it. I followed the direction on the forum. I taped (yellow masking tape)both side to make sure I did not scratch it, as it WAS in perfect shape. Got out the jig saw, a metal cutting blade and some sand paper. The cut went perfect. Got her sand smooth and all looked good. At this point I'm feeling really proud of the job I did. Now it was time to remove the tape. Things went down hill from here. As I removed the tape part of the clear coating in the windshield peeled of with the tape. . So I now have a shield I can see over, but I can't stand looking at the damage I did.
25. I did find an OEM windshield at bikebandit.com for $88.96 and that seems to be a fair price. Can I perhaps find an even cheaper somwhere else? I live in Sweden so toll, vat and freight will be added... My windshield is "milky" and I don't think it will pass MOT /Lars
