Hey Y'all, Anyone have a source for aftermarket or reasonably priced OEM windshield for 1st gens?

Anyone put Rain X on their windshield?

This is how I fixed my broken windshield bracket tabs on my 2004 RSV. I used a wire tie around the speaker boss and wrapped it around the windshield bracket. i cut a piece of rubber off the windshield bracket so the wire tie would be flush.

I need a windshield for my 88 VR:mo money: I looked up Clearview.... Acrylic, $213 plus Precision Plastics is Lexan, $161 plus a few on ebay for $120 or so... Any suggestions? I want an oversized one. 24" tall and as wide as will fit! What are the pros and cons of the different materials? (Acrylic, Lexan, Lucite, ?????)

I totaled out my RSV a couple of weeks ago. The insurance company is paying 100% on accessories. They want to know the brand name of my aftermarket windshield, but it was already on the bike when I bought it used. Can anyone tell me, from my profile pic, what company might have made it? It has an unusual green tint. I can email additional pics, if there are any windshield experts that could help. Thanks. 5 broken ribs and a fractured pelvis. But, I'm up and about. Just a little tender. Probably go back to work after next week. My wife won't let me have another bike, so I'm planning a wake. Reasoning is...a motorcyclist without a bike is just a zombie life. Pretty much over, until they put me in a hole. My wake will be much nicer, with me in attendance to welcome condolences. Also...Did the light bar come stock on this bike, or was that an accessory?

Does anyone have a windshield for an '83 VR? Mine has a film on it that I have not been able to get off. I've tried everything short of trying to sand and repolish. Before I attempt this, I thought I should see if I can find another windshield just in case I mess mine up beyond repair.

Looking for something to replace my old 1200 Goldwing with for every day all weather use.(I ride full time year round) I like my RSV and may get a second for "Beater" use but I've seen a few Royal Stars for pretty good prices. How well does the Royal Star with factory windshield and lowers protect rider from cold and wet? Looks like there is very little protection for the hands and legs. Maybe just looks?

Does anyone know if F4Customs makes a tall windshield for the RSTD? I'd like to get a little wider windshield but have been hesitant to go with the Clearview due to a number of posts about terrible shipment times. If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears...
-
the old tall clear windshield was scratched and beyond its prime ordered this one off ebay for 66 bucks i think it was. fit perfect and looks cool to boot.... oh and i thought i would throw in a pic of my old bike 2002 Warrior for giggles still miss that throttle on the thing !!!!!

I would like to get a tank bag for my RSTD. Does any one have any experience with the Yamaha tank bag part#STR-4WM64-21-00. I don't need a big one, just a place to put a camera and some cash for easy access. The local stealer has a pretty nice Joe Rocket tank bag that is small and can be placed to not interfere with the gas cap etc. http://www.joerocket.com/catalog/index.cfm/251/381/Luggage/Manta_Tank_Bag My needs would be satisfied with a windshield bag, but because of the '57 chevy speedo, there are not a lot of options in that route. Not really looking for a tank bib either.

i'm thinking of a shorty cover for the bike for when on a trip to protect against weather and wandering eyes, windshield to trunk type, would these type put undue stress on the windshield mounting screws? thanks for thoughts and ideals steve:Venture:

OK folks, I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to pick a winner but I'll come up with something. As you know, one of our vendors is F4 Customs. They make a great windshield for the RSV and several here have already purchased a shield from them. Don at F4 has contacted me and expressed his desire to give away one of their shields to ONE lucky member here. Now here is the thing. The shield needs to go to somebody who puts a considerable amount of miles on their bike each year also a person who will share their experiences with the shield. He is not asking for simply a rosy picture but an honest evaluation of what you like about the shield as well as anything that you would like to see changed and/or improved upon. So, let's here your pitches. Why should YOU be selected to receive a free windshield. How many mile per year do you ride and do you PROMISE to post your results with the shield. hmm.....a thought just occurred to me....and YES...I do have a thought every once in a while. I think I'll let F4 Customs monitor this thread and choose the winner. All that being said, let the games begin.

We went for a ride this Sunday started out about 41 degrees @ 9:20 when we left, finally got to 61 degrees by the time we headed back towards home. We wound up riding over 500 miles got home at the last glimmer of sunlight. Was a good day could have used a Taller F4 windshield but it beat sitting here waiting to hear that I won. Just a few pics. http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63478&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63479&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63480&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63481&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63482&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63483&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63484&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63485&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63486&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63487&stc=1&d=1326774095http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63488&stc=1&d=1326774261http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63489&stc=1&d=1326774261http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63490&stc=1&d=1326774261http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63491&stc=1&d=1326774261http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63492&stc=1&d=1326774261 http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63469&stc=1&d=1326773001 http://http//www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63469&stc=1&d=1326773001http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63470&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63471&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63472&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63473&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63474&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63475&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63476&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63477&stc=1&d=1326773406 http://http//www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63469&stc=1&d=1326773001http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63470&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63471&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63472&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63473&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63474&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63475&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63476&stc=1&d=1326773406http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63477&stc=1&d=1326773406

Well, with the electrical work done on the RSV and the weather turning nasty, it's time to start doing some new work on the bike. With that, I have some questions. I want to replace the stock windshield with one that is 3 inches lower since I can't easily look over the top of the stock windshield in the rain. I've looked up the threads on the subject but one question to which I found no answer was this: do the wider windshields (Usually 4 to 5 inches wider overall) give better hand protection (I'm more concerned with the cold than the rain, but better rain protection would be nice)? I know from the threads that a number of members have gone to the wider windshields so I'm hoping someone can pass on their experience. Also on this subject, my 5 ft. 2 in. wife (I'm 5ft. 10 in.) says that she gets some buffeting at face level at highway speeds. Does anyone have any experience as to what effect a move to a lower and wider windshield would have on this. I can't really tell if the air she gets hit with is coming from over the top of the windshield or from around the sides. I'm guessing that a move to a lower and wider windshield would have little effect on gas mileage since the surface area would stay roughly the same. Some windshields, however, seem to sweep back at a greater angle than the stock one, so it's possible mileage would be improved. Anyone have any experience with that? And also, does anyone have experience with handle bar heaters? The price is better than for heated grips, but I wonder if they do as good a job. Well that should do it for now....at least until I see if I can figure out how to get my grips off the bike. Chrome insert in the end and a collar at the other end and both spin? Who thinks this stuff up anyway? Andy

Hey guys, I've got a 96 royal star and I'm trying to find a replacement windshield. None of the vendors I talk to can identify it so, I'm hoping one of you might be able to help. This is the best pic of the bracket i have right now. I'll try and snap some better pics later. Thanks!!! http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/af321/burgurboy/IMG_20111207_194425.jpg

I have a Tour Classic that I bought with the windshield missing. I have some parts here but darned if I can figure out how it mounts and what else I need. The windshileds that I see for sale (here for example: http://houston.craigslist.org/for/2638821004.html ) don't look anything like the diagrams on bikebandit (here: http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/2001-yamaha-xvz1300ltn-royal-star-tour-deluxe/o/m10192#sch517898 ). All three posts advertising a 1996-2001 Royal Star windshiled look like the craiglist one above. Can anyone look at these diagrams and enlighten me as to what the difference is? Can someone take a closeup picture of their windshield so I can see? I actually have some of the parts like in the Craigslist link above, but it seems too narrow to go on the factory mounts (items 18 & 19 on Bikebandit link) that are on the bike. I have been keeping my eye out for a year proper Royal Star in San Diego to look at, but none so far. Also, if there is anyone in San Diego with a 96=01 Royal Star non-Venture with the windshield, can I take a look at your bike? Thanks, Tim

Hi folks, I helped a friend get a job several months ago that really worked out well for him, and in appreciation he bought me a new F4 windshield for my bike. Well, one good deed deserves another, so if there is a member out there that needs a windshield for their bike let me know and I will send it to you. My oem shield is in good shape, just the normal wear and tear oof 25,000 miles.

I found that the top edge of my stock windshield was right in my line of sight and I either had to stretch my neck and/or sit up straighter to look over it or slouch down a lot to look thru it. Was a real PITA so I decided to cut it down 2 inches. Here's a "blow-by-blow" pics for anyone interested in the process. http://s393.photobucket.com/albums/pp16/SilvrT/2003%20Gold%20Wing/Cutting%20Down%20the%20Windshield/ You can also refer to this thread for additional info... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1063
