  1. Well - for those who responded to my first thread - many thanks. I bought some of those foamy ones and went for a long ride today. Wow - what a difference - blessed quiet and no feeling of being tired, wind blown or goofy (except the usual!!) after the ride. I'll be wearing them for every ride now!! Cheers Eugene
  2. My wind shield is to tall 17'', it should be right under nose, about 15''Trying to look thought the Shield when wet ( can't see . Problem can you Cut it off while its on Bike? Can't a Window Guy cut it. Or do i have to Buy a new one. 2006 don't ajust. Need some Ase. Guys
  3. just got back from litchfield. it was almost the ride from hell both ways. as bad of wind as i ever rode in, a little rain, and slightly cool, thought sure it looked like snow. saw one of my favorite venture riders there, roadkill. did have a good time when i got there. any one who did'nt make it, was alot smarter than me, lots of bikes, several hundred. i got hung up on this awesome goldwing that was loaded with all the bells and whistles. burgandy 2008,the sales men were all busy all day so i could'nt do any dealing. could'nt even get a price. i figure at least $23,000. fell in love with it as soon as i walked in the door. thought what a surprise that would be for my wife. figured i could leave my v-star there and drive back tomorrow and pick it up. spent a good hour and a half trying to get a price, no such luck. so i think while i'm waiting maybe i ought to sit on one just for the heck of it to see if it fits. guess what major disappointment very cramped for space. handle bars to close. no leg room, just did'nt have the best ergonomics. so i climbed on my vstar and headed for home in the wind ,$23,000 + dollars better off. good thing because my wife went to the mall and spent all my extra money for this week. fancy that. bill:2133:
  4. Okay, got my first ride with the new Clearview XXL windshield this morning. Some first impressions. A bit less wind buffeting with the new shield, especially behind trucks. I used to get a slight side to side motion quite a ways back from trucks. That has been lessened and the only real buffeting I got today was from a truck with a bunch of huge, oddly shaped, concrete structures on the back which, I'm sure, didn't do much for air flow behind the truck. Seems like wind behind trucks is about 50% better than it was before. Took the bike for an initial ride around the block at home the other night and, since I didn't have my helmet on, the air flow just "tickled" the hair on top of my head. Noticed that my eyes also didn't tear up due to wind flow. Usually, when I ride the bike around that loop my eyes would always tear up due to wind flow. If I stretch out I can still see over the windshield fairly well. I do have to stretch a bit more with this one but can still see over if necessary. One effect that I did notice, don't know if anyone else has noticed this as well, or not. My chirp seems a slight bit quieter AND the "edge" has been taken off of the sound as well. What I mean by that is, at about 55 in 4th the chirp noise had a high pitch component to it that was, well, just annoying as H.E. double hockey sticks. I would say that component has been squelched very, very much and the overall sound has probably dropped about 20 to 30%. I'm thinking the rake has some affect on the reflection of the noise. Like I said, first impressions of the first highway ride this morning.
  5. TxVenture

    wind!!

Fought the wind here in S. TX for the last 3 days and am wore down to a nub!! Don't really know the actual wind speed but estimate 25-30 mph straight wind with gusts up to 35-40 mph. Done wore out both sides of the Avons, never put the first mile on the center tho! LOL Also, never have had the wind try to take my helmet off, almost strangled me until I got the shield down! Oh well, all's well that ends well. :cool10: Don H.
  6. Hello All, I got the tags for my '87 that I have spent about a year off and on redoing. I never rode it, bought it as a project. I think I have the carbs pretty good, but there is one thing that I noticed, and don't know if this is a characteristic of the Venture or if I need so further adjustment. When I was riding, when I would pull the clutch and wind off to shift, the RPM's would hang up hi for a little while and not drop right down to shift. Is the throttle response slow on wind off, or do I need to look at something? Thanks D
  7. Well it's taken me a while, but I finally figures out how to get this digital camera to take reasonable pictures and resize them so I could post them on here. The first two are what it looked like while sitting in Harvey Rounce's (VR member rounce) garage before I bought it from him. The next three are of it in my storage shelter waiting for spring to get warm enough to start riding again. I still have a little more to add but its getting to be less noticable items. By the way the shelter is made by ShelterLogic in Watertown, CT. A wind about 40 - 45 mph caused the damage you see and more. The end wall is held on with light bungee cords and soft of flaps in the wind until tears out the eyelets or rips the bungee. The structure is set up where trees give it some protection from wind. They put a clause in the warranty stating they can't control the wind and thus wind damage is not covered.
  8. OK, Im usually prepared when I go riding. Here in Colorado between Late Sept. and May ya never know what type of weather you are going to run into. Yesterday every bike in Colorado was out being that it was 70 degrees! Pretty awesome considering it was March 1st. Me and the Mrs. are gonna get some miles but she is fiddle fartin around , taking forever to get ready http://www.mygreatrides.com/images/emoticons/rolleyes.gif . So I rush her out the door and we actually discussed if we should pack some extra gear. By now Im chompin at the bit...LETS JUST GET GOING!!!! Soooo..we have on t-shirts and hoodies jeans and chaps and the obligatory fingerless gloves and do rags. We decide that we are gonna make a run to Larimie Wyoming. Cool I say -Lets roll. Riding thru Ft. Collins was great...hit highway 14 toward Poudre Canyon, still rompin and a stompin. Open country almost no traffic. AWESOME. On 287 nearing Virginiadale the wind starts to pick up and within minutes we are actually fighting to keep the bike on the road. This wind is getting colder. And colder. We decide to ride it out hoping to catch a break and the wind will die out. Bad idea http://www.mygreatrides.com/images/emoticons/doubt.gif . Now we are like 50 miles out and the wind is absolutely ripping and bring more cold air as it blows across the snow covered mountains just a few miles to our west. I cant feel the left sided of my face, my hands are freezing and sore from the wind and the death grip I have on the handlebars keeping the bike upright. And now we are both shivering. This really isnt any fun. So after what seems like an eternity we FINALLY roll into Larime and pull into the first gas station we see to try to hide from the weather for a bit. When we stopped the bike we could hear the wind...it sounded like a freight train overhead. We did catch a bit of a break.....the gas station had stocking hats and gloves for sale. SO we decide to gas up and make a run for I-80 toward Cheyenne since the wind is blowing west to east it would be at our backs. So we put on our new "gear" and I pull my facemask out of my bags and we head for I-80. But still we only have the shirts and hoodies on. On I-80 we find that the wind still hates us http://www.mygreatrides.com/images/emoticons/evil.gif . For some reason it is now blowing south to north. Its not long before we are both shivering again. But now there is even a better surprise waiting for us. About 20 miles outsdie of Larime the wind had blown the snow and melting snow across the road. Ever see ice and snow coming up in the road...you are doing 70 mph and there are 18 wheelers all around ya. http://www.mygreatrides.com/images/emoticons/shock.gif . Anyway about 15 miles west of Cheyenne we finally get the wind blowing at our backs and the air starts to warm up.SO we hit I-25 headed back to Ft. Collins and just open 'er up. Running at about 90mph. I just wanna go home. Leason re learned.

  11. Ok, I got it installed following Squidley`s instructions, but the Antenna seams to catch alot of wind, any one else have this problem??
  12. My wife complains that it is hard for her to hold her head up against the wind. I have the stock hight windsheild and still have the stock clear lower wind screens on. I let my dad and mom ride the bike (they ride a HD with no windsheild) and my mom complained about the same thing. I wanted to cut my windsheild down but I am having second thoughts now. Does anyone know what causes this and what, if anything, I can do about it?
  13. Anyone have the clear or tinted they are looking to unload?
