  1. The Bad this week: Wife rear-ended in daughter's car (sore neck) Accidentally paid off credit card (-$3500) (clicked pay balance instead of make payment) Car broken in to (iPad stolen/window broken) The good this week: No damage to daughter's car Less debt No one hurt when wife's car was broken in to All in all, they were just possessions...we still have our health and faith, but are glad that the series of three's is done! Hopefully we are in for some good luck now!
  2. I'm going to look at a 1983 venture with California 2 sidecar this week. It has roughly 50k miles on her. The owner states they have put several grand in it fixing it up to near perfect. It has all the bells and whistles and supposedly everything works. Pictures look good. There is no leading link for the sidecar though. He says his bottom dollar is 3700. Seem reasonable? I may ditch the sidecar if I really like the bike but have trouble steering. I'm coming from a new Harley ultra classic which is nice, but not nice enough for the payments I'm making. Any thoughts are appreciated. He did say the transmission has been fixed I saw that was a problem on these forums.
  3. Hi All Hope your your holiday is going well. Myself and christy had to work on christmas ( life in emegency services) so we are doing christmas today. We are trying to get my youngest daughters boy frend up from ga. Funny they get a inch of snow and go crazy at the airport. He is on his way just later than expected. It will still be a great day as I have taken a whole week off from work. Bull463:stickinouttounge:
  4. I have not been able to ride in about 12 months, But I would go out and start the bike up at lease once every 2 weeks. Well this week I went to start it this week after about 3 months and I had to replace the battery, I drained the old fuel out. I have fire and gas but it will not start. It acts like it wants to with the choke on but will not start.
  5. Yea!! Got my new Works Shock yesterday, mailed them my Bank Money Order on Dec.3 and received the shock on the 16th. pretty good turn around I think!! Now I just need to pick a week end to install it, looking like next week though, just have to much going on to do it this week end..but can`t wait to see how it rides.
  6. I've been trying to get in contact with ronhenry4, a member who has several items listed in our classy's that I'm interested in. I've sent several email and PM's over the last week or so, and so far nothing.... Anyone know if he's OK??
  7. Woke up early this morning, around 3:30. I've been in Louisville, KY all week and will be heading home later today. It has rained most of the week and traffic and rain really wears me out. Eileen says it has rained off and on all week at home also but the forecast for tomorrow is showing a high of 47 degrees and only a 10% chance of rain. If it's that good, I plan to find the time to get a little ride in. I sure need to spend some time in the wind to clear this old mind...or what's left of it.
  8. I picked it up at 1:00 PM and have it at the house. I have taken pictures, but someone needs to remind me how to show them on a post. Exceptionally clean '89 1100 with 11,000 or so miles and great tire. I saw it last week while in Marion NC and made the deal this morning. Now how about some help with where to get engine gaurds and how to post the pix.
  9. I couldn't make the m/e yesterday and was just wondering how it went. I will be going to bike week in Daytona and camping at the Cabbage patch and hope to meet some peeps then.
  10. I am so glad to be home for the weekend. This was a very trying week for me. I know that we all have them from time to time. I was in Pittsburgh, PA all week. Not my favorite place to begin with. It went downhill from there. 1. First hotel I checked into on Monday evening was having problems with their internet. NO NO NO....that doesn't work for me. Checked out and found another hotel. 2. Hotel number two was just fine. The only problem was that a bridge was under construction which required that I take a detour of a few miles every time I left the hotel in order to get back to it. Could have been worse though. 3. Brakes started squealing on the front of my company Caravan. High pitched squeal drove me crazy all week. 4. Every morning when I started the van it sounded like something was coming apart. I'm pretty sure that it is an idler pulley. It would quieten down once it warmed up. 5. Not sure where it happened because I didn't notice it until I got back to the hotel and was walking away from the van but somebody managed to run into the right rear and caved the bumper in. I'm pretty sure that it must have happened in a very crowded parking lot that I was in while visiting a customer. So, this week is FINALLY over. I dropped the van off at my local repair shop for an oil change, front brake job and probably an idler pulley. Will take it to the body shop when I get a chance to get an estimate and then repair on the bumper. Now I just have to decide where I'm off to next week. I had planned on going to Buffalo, NY but I just don't think I can tolerate Pittsburgh and Buffalo back to back. Maybe somewhere in West Virginia would be better. I'm thinking maybe Charleston.....we'll see.
  11. That nasty 4 letter word appeared in the forcast for the week...:crying: :snow2::snow2: :snow:
  12. Not enough excerise In 41 years riding a scoot I only drop a scoot 3 times and the past week I have dropped The Fjr twice while not going moving:Laugh: and all on the right side
  13. I've got the upgraded starter drive installed, the new stator, and also a different rear wheel with good bearings and it runs great. The new starter drive by Dano works fantastic. It engages really clean and positive...no more noises of things slipping. Took the bike on a 50 mile ride yesterday and it feels great. No oil leaks and no new noises. Today I had to put on a new rear tire because my Avon had a plug in it and Barb and I are taking off for a week. The only tire I could find was a Dunlop K591 with Harley Davidson written on the side. The dealer only had one that was a little wider 150x80x16 so it was a b**ch to get in. It was so wide that I had to let the air out and PUSH to get it to go in. It has enough clearance when the shaft drive coupling engages but there isn't much room to spare on the left side at the suspension linkage coupling. I was worried how it would feel, but actually it turns very good. A lot better than the K491 did. The thread looks like a k491, but it's quiet so it has to be a little different. The price surprised me.....$130 from a dealer and only $22 to mount and balance it. For that price I let them do it. Anybody know anything about this tire?? How long do they last? Right after church tomorrow morning, Barb and I are heading south. We're going to meet our friends in the southern tip of Illinois and then spend next week in Arkansas and probably stop in Branson. Hot Springs and Mountain Home were mentioned, but we're only bumming, no schedule. Heck, we might even get to the casinos in Mississippi a little. Frank
  14. So I decided to spend the next week going over the bike changing oil etc. in preparation for Biketoberfest (I hate it when friends use the week of the event to get their maintenance done) Today I went over 4800 miles and decided to start with the saddlebags. I had read that the screws holding the hinges on need to be checked for looseness. I never really looked close at where those screws are. Good thing Yamaha put them behind the fabric. Out of the 8 screws only one was loose, but I took all of the screws out that were going into metal and put a dab of blue loctite on them. Anyway as others have said here before, check your hinges.
  15. It is only 1 week from tomorrow for the St. Jude Meet & Eat. We will be meeting in W. Memphis, Ark. at 11:00 am, we will have lunch at the Flying J, and then proceedi over to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to tour this fantastic facility and present our donation for this year. Lowers

Long story short, last week I had to take a furlough, so wife and I headed south for a week of r&r in Fl. About 40 mles south of Warner Robbins, Ga. in the dark, 80mph, hit something? Not sure what it was? Desk? Drawer? Some kind of piece of furniture. Anyways, got the bike pulled over to check for damages. Broke both lowers, brake lines, radiator and all look ok, but am gonna have to replace the cowlings, bent the crash bars, but they can be straightened. Any one got any good deals on lowers for an 01 RSV?
  17. Just was not my day today. Got a call from the owner of the repair shop where I dropped of my semi to have some work done. He said someone had broken into some of his trucks and also got into mine. Now on top of them busting out driver side glass to get in they stole my GPS,Laptop, truck manuals,TV vcr radio combo went through all my stuff and get this THEY TOOK ALL MY T-SHIRTS AND SOCKS BUT LEFT MY UNDIES NOW GO FIGURE. :rotfl::rotfl: Now I have to call dispatch and have my load picked up and deliver it to Wi. another week with out work and money DANG.
  18. I have been dealing without having a job since January 2009. Finally started back to work this week as a Mechanical Design Engineer at a plant 5 miles from home. I am working in new product development, which is a nice area to be in. They make small electrical sensors for cars, appliances, water heaters & related stuff. Last job was a 55 mile commute one way, so the 5 mile drive is great . It is nice to be productive again. On the down side, my mother in law was diagnosed with terminal cancer a week ago. The cancer is so advanced , there is nothing they can do for her. She is an old Kentucky hills woman that never went to the doctor. She was taken to ER last week and diagnosed with pneumonia. They made her go to a regular doctor and he found a large mass on one of her lungs and cancer had spread to throat and lymph nodes. She has probably known that something was wrong for sometime, but never said anything. There is nothing that they can do for her. At this point they can't even drain her lungs again. They put her on morphine this afternoon. She is on a full face respirator that is doing most of her breathing for her. My wife and her brother & sisters are constantly with her at hospital. She can pass at any time now. Gary
  19. We're heading out on vacation this Friday after work, hope to make it somewhere down in Ohio on Day 1. Beth and I are both off for 2 weeks, and we've made some plans. Memphis...paddle wheeler, Uncle Lou's Chicken, Graceland....Nashville...who knows what? Then off we go like a herd of turtles to San Antonio.....the Alamo, Riverwalk....then over to Tomball-Conroe to meet up with the "Texans". Then, it's off to Savannah, and mosey on north back home. It might not look like much of a plan, but we stop where and when we want to....see something, let's stop....that type of trip. The bike has new front brakes, new Elite 3 tires back and front, going to do fresh engine oil and rear diff oil one night this week.....we did a 700 k trip yesterday, and all appears well, as it should. Yup, we're excited about it.....haven't named it yet...but something along the lines of monkey butt or flat butt tour would probably fit pretty well. Eldest son is taking care of the house, dog and cat....or maybe it's visa versa....hopefully the house is in one piece when we get home So, if you see an 04 Midnite with a couple of smiling, happy Canucks riding...it's probably us! We'll wave at ya. Keep the light on for us! gunk:big-grin-emoticon:
  20. Neighbor is in the biz of selling different vehicles types includes bikes. From most of my talks with him alot of what he sells are bank repos. I can say he is (or was) handling a sell of a former colts player recently so not of it is repo's. He has a stock '04 Midnight w/ 17k and is asked if I thought 7k is a fair asking price. I haven't seen it and plan on it this week, but from what he says it is in good shape nothing major and any surface scratches can be buffed out. To me, I think it seems like a fair price. With this economy, not sure if it will move that quickly though. I just checked kbb and it shows retail $9210 & trade in $6440. Not sure what nada or black book lists it for.
  21. For years I've been interested in Geothermal units. We bit the bullet and are in the process of having it installed. Last week they drilled three 175 foot wells. This week they bored into our basement with the main line and hooked the three wells together. Next week the Geo unit goes in. It has been fun to watch each step. The best news is we get a 30 percent tax credit and to a 20 percent rebate from our utility company! We are saving 1/2. People ask what our payback will be - well, our old system needed to be upgraded so for almost the cost of a conventional heat system we have Geothermal.
  22. It's been a long time since I've posted an update on my health situation here. Not that I've been trying to hide anything but there just hasn't been much to report since the surgery and radiation a year ago. I've been back to Boston twice for follow-up visits and have been told each time that the tumor is shrinking and things look like they are supposed to at this point. That all changed last Friday. I had been in Evansville, IN all week and was having no problems. When I woke up on Friday morning, my eye was a little red and it felt like I had an eyelash or something in it. I also had a slight headache at that time. I really thought that I had somehow gotten something in my eye during the night and it would be better in a day or two. Went through the weekend thinking at times that it was getting better but at other times, feeling that it was getting worse. Headaches had gotten very bad and I was taking Tylenol to address it. Woke up on Monday morning and got ready to head out to Michigan for the week. Stopped by the post office on my way out and by the time I was finished there, my head was throbbing, eye was very red and hurting like heck and I knew that I was NOT going to make it to Michigan. Went back home and called my local eye doctor. She got me in around noon and did not like what she saw. She says that the pressure was slightly high and was causing my headaches but also a lot of blood vessels growing in the eye where there should not be any. She immediately got me an appointment at the Cole Eye Institute of the Cleveland Clinic. The appointment was for Wednesday but she was so worried about the pressure that she had me come back to her on Tuesday so that she could make sure it hadn't gotten too much higher. So, went to the Cole Eye Institute yesterday for what turned out to be a four hour ordeal. A LOT of tests to determine that I have now developed Neovascular Glaucoma in the eye that I had the radiation treatment done on. Turns out that about 16% of the people who have this radiation treatment will develop Neovascular Glaucoma. I'm one of those lucky few. The visit went downhill from that point. I have never been too crazy about shots but I had a total of 4 needles put in my eye yesterday. The worse was the very first one...the "numbing" shot. That one was followed by an injection of some chemical that is supposed to neutralize the natural chemical in the eye that is causing the blood vessels to grow. That injection resulted in my eye pressure going from about 20 to about 74 and another massive headache. Simple to remedy that. All they had to do was insert another needle into my eye and draw off some of the fluid. Once couldn't be enough though so they had to do it a second time. The worse part is that they tell you that you absolutely must be still and NOT jump. I dare any of you to try and NOT jump when they stick a needle in your eye. They told me that it really wouldn't hurt much...I call BS on that. So, these were all temporary procedures to address the immediate pressure, inflammation and pain. Next week I go back to see a Glaucoma specialist to find out what the next steps are but it will almost certainly involve more surgery. The goal now is to address the Glaucoma while hopefully saving the eye but I was told that removing the eye may be the only option either now or in the future. Finally made it home yesterday evening and I tell you, my eyes were so dilated that I couldn't even stand to look at the screen of this laptop. I needed to add Snarley's rally to the countdown page and add the Ladyrider's shirts to the merchandise section and it was all I could do to get those two little things done. Never thought I would need sunglasses to work on the website. Anyway, that's been my week and the reason that I haven't been posting very much. Things WILL get better. It's just another little bump in the road.
  23. I just wanted to say thank you to utopia as well as everyone else who posted input about drivers backrests. Because of the input, I recently purchased a new drivers backrest for my 2005 RSTD. Installation was very easy. I did drill out the holes a bit larger. The backrest is very comfortable, I put on 1000 miles last week to and from Sturgis SD last week. Highly reccommend!!!!
  24. Haven't been in here much this past week..was I missed?? Been going to Psychiatrists (no comment please) and Specialists to do reports for my Barrister for the claim. Then good old P.T.S.D. hit me Back to my mad old self now :dancefool:
  25. Wife and I went camping last week end at Arrow Point campground in Loudenville Ohio. The campground is on the Mohican river and is locally famous for it's canoeing. We were lucky enough to get a river side site and as witness by the pictures below we had to contend with traffic all week end. At times it was quite bothersome ( 1st 3 pics ) and other times it became entertaining ( pic 4 ) Then there was the guy that thought his Kayak was better suited for the hillside and shale ( pic 5 ) Guess we know who won that fight. We watched him scraping shale off himself for 10 minutes before he grabbed his beer and left. We didn't take our bike because of my forked thumb but that didn't stop the ribeye steaks Friday evening over a fire and Johnsonville brats for Saturday evening. I believe there was some Ultra and Ravens Glen Pinot Grigio wine consumed, not positive, week end was a little fuzzy (see pics 1,2 & 3 ) It's really odd how a Michelob ultra and a slap upside your head keeps eyes in wonderment
