  1. and the living is easy. Well, summer got here at 1:16pm EDT today, but, it feels like it has been summer for weeks with this hot weather we are having. Now, we get to look forward to the daylight hours to start getting shorter. RandyA
  2. I have done alot to the bike since I purchased it for 700$ and the last was this weekend I flushed the cooling system and was going to replace the thermostat until I found out what it entailed, but I did a 75 mile shake down cruise in 94 degree weather and stopped at West marine and picked up a weather proof 12v adapter to charge my cell and other things. I found the best place for me to mount it which is convenient and a short run to the battery so I am ready for the ride to Vogel, let me know if I forget anything since I am at the age were if it is not on a post it note I forget....
  3. I've been wondering lately on what the road conditions over Beartooth Pass would be like for the Rally in Cody. With all the weather they've been getting, and BT always being dicey, I thought it still might be snowed in. Not so. The highway is actually open thanks the the various agencies responsible for road up keep. It might be a tad cold and it would be a good idea to bring your cold weather gear. It even got a little nippy on top in '09. Here's the site for up-to-date reports. BEERTOOTH Looks like it'll dry out by late July. :cody
  4. I hate it when people forward bogus warnings, And I have even done it myself A couple times unintentionally But this one is real, and it's Important. Please send this warning to everyone On your e- mail list. If a woman comes to your front door Saying they are checking for ticks Due to the warm weather And asks you to take your clothes off And dance around with your arms up, DO NOT DO IT!! THIS IS A SCAM!! They only want to see you naked. I wish I'd gotten this yesterday. I feel so stupid.
  5. Visiting our Son and family in Calgary. Kinley was 2 months old on the 24th. We brought along our riding gear, thinking of renting a couple of bikes for a day or two while here. Nothing but rain. We all went to Banff for the weekend and woke up to 2 inches of snow yesterday more this morning. Boy am I glad we didn't trailer the bikes. On the bright side, we've been spending a lot of time together. But, what's with the weather?
  6. Here's an interesting one for you... regarding carb synch.. This is a little unique for me as I travel north south and hit 40-50'F temp change within a couple of days.. Before going on this previous road trip, I had synch'd my carbs as precise as I could and on test runs it ran smooth and sweet in 38-41'F weather we had here mid month of May.. But once I get down to South Carolina, in the 90's temp and I can feel thumping as I put power onto the bike at highway speeds, so that could be head winds? When I got back here today, I could barely feel that thumping.. I had thought perhaps it's my clutch plates acting up or something... like that.. hot oil, clutch oil heating up etc.. but when we got up here.. it smoothed out.. but it's still there under the surface.. So is what I'm feeling more to do with my clutch or with my carb synch, and does temp make that huge of a difference on it?
  7. Well it is getting close enough for me to start watching the long range weather horrorcasts. The last 6 days of the 10 day horrorcast is for what would be near perfect weather. Not that I actually believe the weather people...........but it does give me something to look at. Think Freebird can string on another 3 good days onto the end of the week?
  8. I've never used the CB in the 2 years I've owned the RSV and haven't used one in a vehicle since the 70s. In about a month I'm taking 3700 mile trip and thought I might want to use it for road and weather conditions. So do MC riders have a channel they monitor or do you have to put up with all the trucker chatter interrupting my music?
  9. kenw

    Heehaw!!!

After about 3 months with a bad back, the therapy finally kicked in good enough to see if I could hold the bike up! I can, The weather is great, and I'm finally on the road (sort of)! Life is Good!!!
  10. GETTING READY TO HEAD OUT TO BEAUFORT, SC TO SEE THE BLUE ANGELS THIS WEEKEND. THEY PUT ON AN AWESOME SHOW AND IT'S GOOD TO SEE OUR BOYS SHOWCASE THEIR TALENT. THE WEATHER IS BEAUTIFUL AND IT'S TIME TO RIDE. WILL POST SOME PICTURES AFTER THE TRIP.
  11. Please keep all those touched by the severe weather in your thoughts and prayers.
  12. Does anyone know a good place / website to get one of those wooden bead seat covers for a bike seat at a good price. I want to get two but hate the idea of dropping $50 to $60 not knowing weather or not I'll like them. There was a place on ebay selling them for 12 buck but looks like there out.
  13. We have been watching the weather non stop for weeks... we have been averaging only a day or so a week that is decent for a ride(keep in mind I am more of a fair weather rider). Been talking with Rick Butler about getting his mod done to my seat. Checked the weather and rain all week but Weds. So I tear out of work early and get it shipped today. After I got home and goofed off a bit I pull up the weather and BAM no rain on the forecast all week! High of 72 on Fri. DOH!!! Story of my life! Now I'm wishing for rain..haha Frank
  14. My boss went out to her bike to find a horrible surprise. Her tank had collapsed on itself. The tank vent was plugged up and the vacuum crushed the tank. The tank was low on fuel. She had been riding in the 80+ weather we had last week and parked her bike in the shed. Temps dropped back down to below 30.
  15. Well Im here. Actually got in town Monday. Nice weather and looking forward to a great time and a lot of racing...............calling for bad weather Friday, but it should pass. I am suprised at how few bikes I have seen here.
  16. Hey all: was on ebay tonight and saw an 07 venture listed, has studded seats, and chrome emblem on saddlebags which makes me think it is an 06, anyway the listing states it has a weather channel, band, does it really have a weather channel as according to my owners manual for my 07, i can't find anywhere where my 07 has a weather band. appreciate any imput cause I would really use a weather band if mine had one. See the ebay listing below Thanks Brian D. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Touring-Bagger-MIDNIGHT-VENTURE-BAGGER-TOURING-EXTRAS-GPS-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem43a65edbc4QQitemZ290554043332QQptZUSQ5fmotorcycles
  17. I've had a time with this *** leg and cold this winter and it seems to be getting worse. I have blood clots in it and it aches when cold. I expected that during the winter when it was really cold but started to try and get out a little as weather is starting to break and it is worse. Only way I can get pain to stop is get in a hot tub of water and soak the thing. Cutting down my outside activity a lot. Any ideas on how to keep it warm without roasting the rest of me. What makes it react to cold like that? Blood flow not what it used to be. Time to Quit Riding?? I ain't buying it!!! My want to is back up from last couple years but this thing just won't let me go. Pills don't stop the cold ache.
  18. Over the last two days, I decided to jump in to the "project" before the pretty weather arrived so a few thoughts to share..... Dunlop Elite 3 tires from SportTour in Cincinnati for $117 and $119 seems to be a pretty decent price. They also have a nice website with lots of good things at rather decent prices. No real problems changing then at all and the rear needed no weight to balance at all. While I was in to it, and since I had the Super Brace and some new Progressive for springs, it was only logical to do that at the same time, so I jumped in. The archives on this website were absolutely critical in being able to complete this task with little to no difficulties. To all those who have shared their experiences, I offer a humble and heartfelt "Thank You" Here are a couple of things I learned while doing this project....... - a 5/16 hitch pin clip works just fine in the rear axle nut( had one in the parts drawer) - AutoZone has a set of hex bits in 12, 14, and 17 mm for $9.95 that will be a great addition to anyones tool box. They are 1/2 inch drive and the 17 is perfect for the forks. Anti seize on the threads helps them go back in very nicely. - on the recommendation of a racer friend, I used Mobll 1 full synthetic in the forks. We'll have to see how that works out. - a 3/8 inch impact works nicely for helping remove all kinds of bolts and nuts that have never been touched. The hammering action helps break up corrosion on threads without the fear of breaking things. It doesn't take a high setting at all to move things. After I got everything back together, I just had to go out for a bit to scrub then new tires in a bit. Even with being quite cautious to no get too excited with the new tires, I was astounded with the difference in the feel of the bike. The little voice in the back of my head kept saying "where are those guys on the Ninjas?" but I did my level best to ignore him. Weather or not, I am riding this fabulous machine a bunch this year, starting tomorrow.....
  19. Finally got my 84 VR back together, and with the 9deg C weather yesterday, headed out for a little cruise. Looking out the window today.........different story. High winds are supposed to top 100 kms/hr, the ground is white, and its around the freezing mark. On the bright side, yesterday was the earliest that I have ever taken my bike out, and it seems to be running great. Hard to beat that NS weather. Anyway, next week looks better. Thanks for reading, I was bored, and just venting.
  20. A first for me Yesterday. We had some crappy weather yesterday. It was the first time I have ever experienced rain, thunder, lightning, hail, and snow, all in the same day. Not to mention having blizzard warnings and flood warnings at the same time. South Dakota, dont like the weather, just wait a bit, it'll change..........Cmon spring, you can do it.........
  21. I was wondering if anyone is planning to attend either of these swap meets on the 16th and 17th of April. http://www.washingtonvintagemotorcyclists.org/WVM_Swap_Meet_flier-1_2011.pdf http://www.classicbikeswapmeet.com/swap_meet.html If the weather is good my buddy and I are planning to take the bikes and attend both, if the weather isn't cooperating we are going to cage it. My lovely wife says she will join me for her first bike ride that weekend! I'm excited!!
  22. Any Kansas City riders want to ride Tomorrow weather is supposed to be great:twing:

    Army food

Having never served myself thanks to tricky Dick I don't know so hears my question. My son who has served 14 yr is now in Afghanistan and has been since last July and finally called us yesterday. After not hearing from him for three weeks. It was good to hear his voice again. He said that he was very tired and tired of being hungry. When he left he was about 205 and is now at 175. I have a hard time imagining this! How could we send these young men to fight for our country and not feed them? He is on a forward operation base and says things are heating up there now that winter is almost over. Seems the Taliban are fair weather fighters. We are sending him another care package today {food, magazines, tobacco products}. All I know is that this fries me. One more thing he has bought with his own money a Rangefinder and a tactical jacket with lots of storage pockets. Which we have sent on to him. This I thought was unacceptable also that he is self funding our war needs.
