  1. I've been reading about this story for a bit and I know we have folks that were Marines. So I thought this might be pertinent to them. Seems that Camp Lejeune here in NC had some water problems. There is a group that have come up with some health problems which they attribute to the toxic water they were exposed to. This is there website. It's going before the Senate here shortly and there is a bill where the Senator from NC is trying to get VA benefits for former Marines and their families due to this. The water seems to have been cleaned up now. Just thought I'd pass this on in case we have anyone that may have been affected and need to know where to go. http://www.tftptf.com/ Margaret
  2. I rode last Thursday 350 miles from Fairfield in SE Iowa to Minneapolis MN. The temps were i the upper 40s to lower 50s the whole time and it rained from start to finish. I discovered that my rain suit had disguised tears in the crotch so I ended up sitting in water the entire time. Despite this my Widder liner and gloves kept me warm the entire trip. I am a big fan of good electric gear now. I should really enjoy it when my new Frogg Toggs come in the mail. Then I will really feel like I am ready for the weather. BTW, does anyone have a recommendation for water proof glove covers for the Widder heated gloves? Iowa Guy
  3. Ok and plumber's out there? I have a hot water heater that is 4 years old. Its a 2 element unit. that is not heating. I have checked and the breaker is Ok and I have 120 volts on both sides of each element. I have replaced the upper element ( I was told this is the heating element and the bottom element was for keeping the water warm.) I turned up both thermostats to max and still no heat. any suggestions ?????? Cold showers were great when you were 16 but not so good when your 60 LOL
  4. Well my as-is project continues, what started out as a simple dragging starter repair has now turned into a water pump overhaul as I found oil in the water. I have a couple questions that I couldn't find answers to in the Tech. talk. How much slack is there supposed to be in the plastic gear that runs the pump, where mine sits on the pin there is noticable slack, is that normal? How many other places are there where oil can get into the water besides the head gaskets and which are the most likely? My trike has 44,800 miles on it. Also I did find a crack in the water seal, hard to believe oil can get into the water through that hair line crack. As usual any help is appreciated.
  5. I initiated my KLR 650 Thursday ,Okay it's not a 4-wheeler, I decided to take one of these winter ski-doo trails that followed the Trans Canada power lines for 12 miles one way. The trail was jagged , round boulder gravel great for a jeep in low gear:rotfl:for 5 miles and then the water showed up. Most the way up the depth of the water was around 1 foot or 2 deep except the one pictured below was knee deep (Now which side to I take left, right or down the middle.) Down the middle it will be ....While standing upward and in second gear I hammered it Reached the curve of the road and my eyes widened :doh:a major wash out fast flowing water I kept it at a steady pace and than it happened the front wheel drops downward and here Im going over the handles bars .Yahoo!!! Flat on my back and a motorcycle on top of me Im so glad that it is a light scoot The other 2 photos Northern Ontario Speckle Trout lakes Oh the camera , sleeping bag tent Etc are presently being dried out Yup , Im not 21 . The pain stays a little longer:rotfl:
  6. Well my week started off oddly enough. I got my water bill on Sat. and it was $80 which is very strange. According to the bill I used 11500 gallons of water. I was gone a week during this time and Jeff isn't here. Normally I use about 2000 gallons a month. Went down to ask what's up with this and they said you must have a leak. So I come home and no leaks in the house but I check the meter again and write down what it says. Too late to head back so I decided to check again this morning and it was a lot higher. So I go around back and find lots of water back there. Seems the water leak was where it comes into the house. Now I panic I'm not a plumber Jeff's gone what do I do. So I called the water dept to get them to turn off the water because I don't know how to do that. Then I called ADC. He came over checked the situation got the bad stuff off and went for parts. Came back and fixed my leak turned on my water and everything is good to go. Now I don't usually call folks to help makes me feel like I'm being a bother or a pest. But I needed someone to help since I didn't know what to do. Arthur not only came over to fix it he won't let me pay him for the parts. I figure I'll get him back for that one later. Maybe at a meet if Josh wants something and dad says no. Reason I'm posting this is without this site I'd never have met Arthur even though he only lives like 10 mins away. So I want to say thank you to Arthur where everyone can see. So he knows how much I appreciate what he did. I felt kinda bad calling thinking he was at work, but he had today off. Kinda felt bad imposing on his day off. Ok now back to what you all were doing before I interrupted. Margaret
  7. if the water pump leaks after you stop the engine.. does that mean you need a new water pump? or can you get the parts to fix it? is it simple to fix? does any one have one to sell? Curious minds NEED to know.. :crying::bang head: thanx..
  8. Awhile back there was a big rush to add gauges to their bikes prior to the riding season. Well I was one of those, and I stole an idea from AlbertaClipper and added a Voltmeter and and oil pressure meter to my dash (tank cover area) . Since I had to buy a three gauge set to get the two gauges I wanted I have the water temp gauge left over. I was cleaning out the garage and decided someone could put it to better use than taking up space in my garage. Is anyone interested in the water temp gauge (gauge plus mounting bracket for three gauges) or maybe I should give it to someone that shows up at the PIP? Well what do you think? SUGGESTIONS? and please keep it clean this is a family rated forum ya know. Bubber aka Steve
  9. Is there a way to test a capacitor?? It had some dry white looking foam on it on the end that the connectors are on..... all I know is that I do not have any water!!! Thanks for any help....

  12. Now I know there is a whole section on connecting up a Tach but bear with me. I purchased a Sun Super Tach II (2 1/8 diameter for $15.00) and want to use it on my 2006 RSV. Now my question is this, I believe the Tach as it is will not work correctly on the bike as it will only read from the 1 coil it is connected to there by when it says 1,000 RPM the motor is really doing 4,000 RPM. What I need to know is the RSV considered a single fire setup because of the 4 individual coils? Now I found this info on building an adapter for mutli coil setup (picture attached). I priced out the diodes and they are around .02 cents each (in a lot of 100) and the resistors I figure can't be much more and a small box to put them in less then $5.00. My question here is will this work on the bike as a single fire adapter if there are 4 setups made and each connected as shown in the picture to the coils with the Tach set to the 4 cylinders setting. I have water proofed the Tach to the point of it floats but would be better off saying it's more water resistant not water proof. When I get this done I'll upload a PDF on how I made the Tach water resistant (a few O rings), fixed the mounting, and got it all to work.
  13. OK I need some input please, My trailer has the diamond plate and I'm trying to remove the water spots and also trying to bring back the shine. I used never-dull and some car polish as of right now it has some shine to it. but I still have the water spots. Any thing I can use to help remove the spots and really bring back the shine? Buddy

    Bottled water

I don't know if you all have heard all the controversy about the bottled water, but if you look at the following video I think you'll find that it is good stuph! 15. One of my turn signal seals was letting some water in. Popped a bulb. The water that got in seems to have rusted the bulb in place. Tried some gentler persuasion - then a bit less gentle with some needle nose pliers after the bulb glass broke. Anyone got suggestions on how to loosen this up to get it out without damaging the socket??
  16. I did my first Boby Flay smoked beef brisket and it came out awsome the link to the recipie is here. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/smoked-bbq-brisket-recipe/index.html I used regular chilli powder instead of ancho and for the beer mop I used a Vidalia instead of a red onion and instead of serrano peppers I used a big cubanella I tried to cut the heat a little and it worked awsome it was the best brisket I ever smoked it was a 6 1/2 lb and came out great but the best recipie I got this weekend was from my dad for how to make an omlet and it works perfect I made 2 with mushrooms asparagus chedder cheese and red onion this is the best for camping you gotta try it. Great Idea !! http://by108w.bay108.mail.live.com/mail/SafeRedirect.aspx?hm__tg=http://65.54.162.249/att/GetAttachment.aspx&hm__qs=file%3d3651cad1-db7a-4dd7-b0c0-a8be87f13d33.jpg%26ct%3daW1hZ2UvanBlZw_3d_3d%26name%3dQVRUMS5qcGc_3d%26inline%3d1%26rfc%3d0%26empty%3dFalse%26imgsrc%3dcid%253a708802579E2C488D98F5045A93A667C2%2540pegPC&oneredir=1&ip=10.1.106.206&d=d2332&mf=0&a=01_3c9c4a6dab01c4708d59f61af83d2164934990c2978871b8d9f6df62b9a21160 ZIPLOC OMELET (This works great !!! Good for when all your family is together. The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet !!!) Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker. Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them. Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc. Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up. Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes [we did 15 minutes]. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water. Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed. Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process and a great conversation piece. http://by108w.bay108.mail.live.com/mail/SafeRedirect.aspx?hm__tg=http://65.54.162.249/att/GetAttachment.aspx&hm__qs=file%3d80e9e911-d38b-4994-95fe-9ce4a8b8ddda.jpg%26ct%3daW1hZ2UvanBlZw_3d_3d%26name%3dQVRUMi5qcGc_3d%26inline%3d1%26rfc%3d0%26empty%3dFalse%26imgsrc%3dcid%253a53F2D598087F499DB982AF48CFB43FBF%2540pegPC&oneredir=1&ip=10.1.106.206&d=d2332&mf=0&a=01_3c9c4a6dab01c4708d59f61af83d2164934990c2978871b8d9f6df62b9a21160 http://by108w.bay108.mail.live.com/mail/SafeRedirect.aspx?hm__tg=http://65.54.162.249/att/GetAttachment.aspx&hm__qs=file%3dd9fc0d11-eddf-451d-ad43-1841287183a5.jpg%26ct%3daW1hZ2UvanBlZw_3d_3d%26name%3dQVRUMy5qcGc_3d%26inline%3d1%26rfc%3d0%26empty%3dFalse%26imgsrc%3dcid%253aBBE7C90161A64699AFCA097969D56481%2540pegPC&oneredir=1&ip=10.1.106.206&d=d2332&mf=0&a=01_3c9c4a6dab01c4708d59f61af83d2164934990c2978871b8d9f6df62b9a21160 http://by108w.bay108.mail.live.com/mail/SafeRedirect.aspx?hm__tg=http://65.54.162.249/att/GetAttachment.aspx&hm__qs=file%3d7b23e0f8-0b36-40f6-9537-4a9a9d3b1375.jpg%26ct%3daW1hZ2UvanBlZw_3d_3d%26name%3dQVRUNC5qcGc_3d%26inline%3d1%26rfc%3d0%26empty%3dFalse%26imgsrc%3dcid%253a306D5A2E670F46F687F669F71001743D%2540pegPC&oneredir=1&ip=10.1.106.206&d=d2332&mf=0&a=01_3c9c4a6dab01c4708d59f61af83d2164934990c2978871b8d9f6df62b9a21160 http://by108w.bay108.mail.live.com/mail/SafeRedirect.aspx?hm__tg=http://65.54.162.249/att/GetAttachment.aspx&hm__qs=file%3dd31e4386-bad9-438f-b85b-46b465248185.jpg%26ct%3daW1hZ2UvanBlZw_3d_3d%26name%3dQVRUNS5qcGc_3d%26inline%3d1%26rfc%3d0%26empty%3dFalse%26imgsrc%3dcid%253a56775FCD0C474599BD9A74EA18357074%2540pegPC&oneredir=1&ip=10.1.106.206&d=d2332&mf=0&a=01_3c9c4a6dab01c4708d59f61af83d2164934990c2978871b8d9f6df62b9a21160 Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in boiling water while you get ready. 17. I had to go through a water crossing today at Palo Duro Canyon. I guess Ventures really do handle like a boat!! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwcpStxcv2E]YouTube - watercrossing[/ame]
  18. A couple of weeks ago I noticed a good crop of orange barrels starting to grow alongside the highway, no biggie, this is Wisconsin, . Last week on the way home from work In a severe Thunderstorm that came out of the predicted clear skies, (gotta love meteorologists) got to a section of road with no extra markings BUT IT WAS GONE. the hole was filled with water right to the pavement so I never noticed the drop till the bike dropped down off the edge of the pavement. Fortunatly the hole was only about 4 inches deep but now I am at at 45mph in 4 inches of water over a gravel road, Before I could get back under control and slowed down I came uo to a Manhole cover that was sticking up 4 inches but invisible in the water. I saw it a split second before I hit it and all I could do was to hang on tight and get all of my weight to the pegs. I have no idea just how high up in the air the bike was, bit it was a lot higher than was ever intended for my poor old V1. Some how I managed to stay upright and get slowed down to finish crossing he11. I rode slow the rest of the way home not knowing if I did any damage to the bike. My shorts were not worth saving. The next day I cleaned all of the mud and crud off the bike and inspected everything I could, no damage. It was the next day that they put up the road closed signs and baricades. OK Rant over.
  19. Well, my '87 VR is back on the road. BUT one odd thing. I hear a tick from the water pump. It's almost a knock that sounds like if you took a handle of a screwdriver and tapped it against the engine. Can only hear it when on the right side of the bike. It's not the clutch basket rattle that high mileage units can develope. I used my mechanics stethoscope to confirm that it's most certainly is the water-pump. And pulling the clutch lever does not change the sound.. ALL parts in the pump are new including the impellar but not the plastic gear. As it looked to be fine. Yes, Carbs are sync'd. REMEMBER I have not had this on the road for over 2 years. So my memory of how it should sound is rather foggy. It makes this noise the same , cold or hot. I have an oil pressure gauge on the bike...pressure is fine. The sound is there and varies directly w/engine speed. I suspect it could be the pin for the plastic gear on the impellar shaft rocking due to the Ventures naturally uneven firing. BUT I am grasping at straws here. P.S. First time I did the water pump seals on this bike was 20 years ago. SO this is the second time. I even have the Yamaha tool to drive the mechanical seal in correctly. So I really do everything "by the book" Anyone have a firm possibility of the noise source before I disassemble. Or would I be wasting my time taking it apart again for just a noise. Anyone with a reply who has experienced this and if they fixed it or not would be appreciated ..Oh yes, I do see some other threads with info on this. And since syncing the carbs did not change this noise.....................help...
  20. Anybody ever hear of this, I will give it a try, I love both so it will be easy............ Why not give this a try..it sure is cheaper than most RX's even the OTC.. HONEY and CINNAMON Cinnamon & Honey ~ I Bet the drug companies won't like this one getting around. Facts on Honey and Cinnamon: It is found that a mixture of honey and cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban'(very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases. Today's science says that even though honey is sweet,if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients. Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada ,in its issue dated 17 January, 1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists: HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins. ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients may take daily, morning, and night, one cup of hot water with 2 spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of 1 tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain. BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take 2 tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder. CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and 3 teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, were found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken 3 times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol. COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses. UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root. GAS: According to the studies done in India and Japan,it is revealed that if honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas. IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacteria and viral diseases. INDIGESTION: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on 2 tablespoons of honey taken before food relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals. INFLUENZA: A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural 'Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu. LONGEVITY: Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon powder and 3 cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increases and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old. PIMPLES: Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder to make a paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root. SKIN INFECTIONS: Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections. WEIGHT LOSS: Daily in the morning-one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet. CANCER: Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day. FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week. BAD BREATH: People of South America , first thing in the morning, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day. HEARING LOSS: Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing. Remember when we were kids? We had toast with real butter and cinnamon sprinkled on it!
  21. Well since I'm new hear. My name is Jeff , I live about 20 miles south of Wichita KS on 81. I own an 83 XVZ12TK, an 81 Honda CB900F Super Sport and an 80 Suzuki GS1000L/G, so as you can tell I like the older bikes. I rescued the Venture this past winter from a non-mechanic for a measly $600, it has a little over 37k on it. He said the rear shock wouldn't hold air so he hung it from his garage rafter by a chain and attempted too take it apart he took the air box off and left the carbs exposed for 4 yrs and where he had it at had a leak in the roof and dripped onto the throttle at the grip and when I gave it a twist I heard and felt a snap snap so now I need cables as well . But what I need to know is, where I can find a carb rebuild kit/kits? I've always redone my motorcycle carbs in boiling water then blew them out with an air compresser, sprayed them out with starting fluid to remove access water, let them sit for a day or 2 then put them back together and to this date I haven't had any problem, but with these carbs being exposed for 4 years that might not work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. SSL
  22. I check my coolant at the radiator about once a month....Everytime I check it's about 1-2 pints low...I can't figure where the water goes, its not leaking anywhere.... Any ideas?? Thanks in advance
  23. I have had radio problems for about a year now. The buttons will stop working when in heavy rain but would dry out and start working again. I have taken it apart and drained water out of it. Then I sealed it with sealicone sealer, big mistake that just kept more water in it. So I took the sealer off and drilled two drain holes in the bottom. It helped some, the radio would dry out faster. I'm getting it ready to ride and the memo button will not let me set stations. I have it all apart and see nothing wrong. I thought of putting it in the oven to see if needs drying out. again a temporary fix. So I'm looking for any help on how to fixes this problem with out changing radios. I've been spending a lot of money this year on maintance and upgrades. So a little savings would help out. Thanks Jerry:fingers-crossed-emo
  24. Not sure on whether this is a good deal..... I have found a 2001 Yamaha Silverado for $450. It looks great from the pics. The down side is that it has flood damage (salt water) from Hurricane Ike. Is it worth the time and effort to buy a salt water flooded scoot?
  25. Here is the deal, I have tried everything I can think of and still cannot get the front left cylinder (number 2, I think) to fire. Here is what I have done so far: 1. changed the wires 2. changed the plug 3. swapped the coil with known good 4. drained the bowl and verified that there is fuel flow 5. checked/cleaned connectors from the TCI 6. cleaned every connector that I could find. 7. Cleaned the carbs. *I have not re-synced them (would that cause one cylinder not to fire?) The other three cylinders are running fine. I just am not sure where else to look. Everything appears to be in order....the way I verify that cylinder one is not firing, is the water test. I let the bike idle to normal operating temp and then spray water on all 4 exhausts. All of them evaporate instantly except the fron left. It just runs down the tube and evaporartes as it goes. The tube gets hot, but not nearly as hot as the other three. Please help.....
