  1. OK I need some advice. I went to my local dealer today to have two warranty problems addressed. From what I read on here they are both common problems. The first being the tabs on the inner fairing that break and allow your windshield to shake. The other problem is on the pipes where the two pipes become one. There is an exhaust leak there on both sides of the bike. First I'm told that pipes, even the stock ones I have, are accessories and only covered under warranty for 1 year. Then I'm told that the tabs may not be covered because I may have to return to the dealer that built the bike. Supposedly Yamaha says that those tabs break due to the guy building the bike breaking the tab. Doesn't make sense since the bikes a 2006 and only started to notice the rattle last week. In fact when I first read on this forum about a month ago about this problem I looked and they seemed fine. He stated he would call Yamaha but that he did not expect them to cover either problem. Any advice? How full of crap is he?
  2. My Zumo got sicky-poo , so it's off to Kansas tomorrow . Not to see Dorothy or the Wiz , but to get fixed . For the last several months , my touch screen has been a bit touchy or shall I say "Stucky" . Also the screens would switch to other prompts or not even respond to commands . These issues happened every once in awhile for the past few months , but I thought it was the cold that affected it . Today it was in the 70's and suddenly it froze up ..... I mean froze!!!!!! I followed every trouble shooting tip in the manual without prevail , so I call Garmin's tech support. I got my Zumo when they first came out . I've logged over 25K on it , downloading routes and other info. , keeping the memory down to a minimum . Making sure I kept up on all the updates as well . As I spoke to the nice gentleman on the phone (Garmin's Tech support), explaining what the Zumo was doing and what all I did to try to correct the issue , it mentioned that I did all that what could be done as if he had told me what to do . So after telling him my serial # of the Zumo , he checked on the registration date to see that my Zumo's warranty was definitely out , way out of date it was . The next words out of his mouth was , "Let me give you a RMA# to return the unit back to us for repair , UNDER WARRANTY!" ....WOW , I couldn't believe it as I got my Zumo back in mid year '06 . He also said that it would take about 10 days for repair and a few more days to return . They are also going to send me a new security screw that I lost out of the cradle and a new security screwdriver that I misplaced . So tomorrow , it's off to get repaired , if not replaced and at no charge . Though my cuz works as an engineer at Garmin in the avionics division , (snicker-snicker) and I didn't mention it to Garmin , I am total surprised ! And will be back in Hog-Heaven in somewhat 2 weeks from now when it returns . I hope my wife doesn't tells me to get lost now , cause I actually will now without my GPS .:rotf: BEER30
  3. Hi All, I am looking at a 2006 RSv I would be the 3rd owner, will I still be able to transfer the 5 yr warranty? or is there a limit to the number of owners, or some other silly stipulation. Thanks for any help. Craig
  4. I'm looking at buying a 2006 RSV from a car/cycle shop (not a Yamaha dealer). The original owner traded it in a few months ago. I've been told the bike is still under warranty until 2011...not sure exactly what all is covered but... I just read in the online owners manual that the bike must be inspected and reregistered thru an authorized Yamaha dealer...and must be done within 10 days after transfer of ownership to the subsequent purchaser. So does that mean 10 days after I purchase it? What about when the dealer purchased it from the original owner & didn't have it inspected/reregistered? The other problem is the bike is 2000 miles away from me. If I buy it, I'll have it stored at a friends place for a few months before I can pick it up. So I won't have it to take it to a Yamaha dealer within 10 days. Is this all saying that I won't have a warranty?
  5. I have seen references to "24 hr roadside assistance" included in the 5yr warranty on the 2nd gen Venture. Does this really exist? I haven't seen anything about it in the owners manual or other Yamaha literature. Does anyone know a phone # to use for this service if it does exist? Anyone ever used it? Thanks.-Jack

    Cracked CB antenna

Yesterday, while riding on I75, with me in the lead, John pulls up beside me and tells me that something came off my bike. We pull over, and sure enough, the CB antenna is now half an antenna - it split right in half! Lucky thing it didn't hit John on his bike. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, were you covered by the warranty? I haven't put any extra stress on the antenna - no flags, etc., but I can imagine that Yamaha Canada ain't going to believe that story. Cheers,
  7. I know we all have had bad dealer experiences. I just wanted to give props to my dealer for working with me to get a problem solved. My most local Yamaha dealer (Quincy, MA) isn't particularly well versed in the Venture and sometimes doesn't seem to like working on it, however, they do step up to the plate for me when it's necessary. I recently had a very spongy rear end (hey no comments!) and found oil leaking from the rear suspension. Having hung out here for quite a while I knew exactly what had happened and that it SHOULD be covered by warranty. I called the dealer, explained the situation and that it would be warranty work. Also asked if they had the part. They didn't and they said they'd have to look at it before they could even order it. The tone implied that they weren't thrilled about the prospect of doing work either. So I'm thinking to myself "OK here we go, it's going to be a pain in the ass and I'll have to fight my way through it." I brought the bike in and talked with the service manager who was skeptical that is was covered. I explained that I belong to a club of thousands of Venture riders and that this is a fairly common problem. Also told him that a few folks had needed to fight about it being covered but ultimately Yamaha had covered it. Got a call back from him and he explained that a history check showed the rear suspension had already been replaced once by the previous owner. Again I'm thinking "here we go". I told him "that''s nice, but it still failed and it's still covered" and also shared tales from other owners who had replaced more than three under warranty. We hung up. I called the next day to check in and I was told the part wasn't in stock and it'd be a while before they could get it. Again, I'm thinking "here we go". I checked in that Friday (only 3 days after I had dropped the bike off) to get an end of week update. They told me the part was in, They were trying to get it fixed that night but it may be Saturday before it was ready. Covered by warranty. What a nice surprise - no fighting and riding for the weekend! So far when there's been any question on things like this, I've been able to calmly state facts - many of which are learned here (Thanks Don & everyone who contributes) - which show my point. This dealer has been very good about taking that into consideration and doing what's right when I take this approach. Sometimes I think that dealers are so unfamiliar with lower profile bikes like the Ventures that they aren't aware of what's covered. Similar parts are not covered on other bikes or never fail within warranty periods so they don't see the situations often. Not being one to embrace conspiracy theories easily, I prefer to believe that it's more often unfamiliarity or apathy rather than spite that cause many dealers to question warranty coverages. Anyway, thought I'd share some positive dealer news since it's easy to overlook that when we hit a bad experience.
  8. Well, Wednesday afternoon we will be heading out (via the SUV:crying:) to Florida. Taking my son down to Disney for vacation. He is 10 now and we took him 5 years ago. So I'm sure he will find more he enjoys this time. Planning on driving straight through. I will have a computer with me so you won't escape me Having some maintenance and warranty work done at the Dealer on the bike while I'm gone. If anyone else happens to be around the Orlando area give me a call. # is in my profile. Later.
  9. Well, dropped off my 07 venture at 1700 miles to have the rear splines greased and the carbs to be checked( I think they need to be resynced). The dealer told me the neither one of these is covered under warranty. I thought the rear spline thing was a factory issue. Should I call yamaha to find out? I also left them the service bulletin for the "I" basket.
  10. Got a good one for you folks. As most know I am buying a US 05 midnight from a member here. Now, how do I go about transferring the warranty into my name? I know my dealer here will not do warranty work on my bike...he has already told me so and that I will be required to go back to the US for any work needed. Yamaha Canada has also told me the same thing. Then I asked how they take care of US travellers that have urgent repairs needed...well that was over a month ago and I am still waiting for a reply! Not a huge concern as I am not that far from the border. But I do know I need to transfer the thing into my name. Thanks as usual!
  11. Broken CB antennas seem to be a problem but how the dealer is going to handle it seems to be a bigger problem. Tonight going to dinner, somewhere between home and where we ate my CB antenna decided to break at the black plastic. I have an 06 Venture 7000 miles with service plan. I have never hung or tied anything to it. To break like that we ALL agree it is a warranty issue but dealers don't seen to think so. Would love to read more input from my fellow Venture owners about this little talked about problem. I will be approaching my dealer Monday..... Rode all day in a T-Shirt, God knew what he was doing when he made Arizona. I posted in a CB tech thread and got no replies. Hope to hear some people sound off about this apparent problem.
  12. Halfway thru a ride today on my 06 rsmv I noticed the top half of my cb antenna gone. The black plastic part looks like it broke off. The stealer said they could replace it for $100+. anyone else had this problem? Is this covered under warranty? Thanks
