  1. The wife has 65K on her 05 Chevy Colorado with the 5 cylinder motor. Truck runs great but this is the third time it has been in for a engine service light on. GM dealer says even though it's out of warranty they will fix it for free. Something about a head replacement,Valve stem wear issue. The dealer says about $2K in work at no charge.I heard they were extending the warranty to 7 years or 100K for this problem. Has anybody had this problem fixed? I'm concerned about long term life of that motor. I would like to get about 200K of service from it.The plan was to run it another 5 years after paying it off and convert a truck payment into a new house investment. So much for a plan.Does anybody know of the I5 engines getting high mileage out of that motor.
  2. First of all let me introduce myself. I own a 2007 Venture and live in FL near Cocoa Beach and I am currently active duty NAVY in the submarine force. My questions are: Have any other's had a rust problem on their bikes? Does the warranty cover this issue? On my antennas at the joint where they fold is just covered in rust. After taking the saddle bags and trunks off last week to do a thorough cleaning (field day for you navy folk) on the bike i discovered more rust on the chrome under the trunk and a few spots on the forks. I couldn't find anything on this issue in the warranty info that I have. Thanks for your help Bill
  3. i,ve been lookin for a gps and i came across this, RefurbDepot.com.. even I can afford one here..tom tom one for $119.95,, garmon street pilot for $110.00.. all units com with the same warranty as new.. check it out.. tell me what you think.:whistling:
  4. I have an 07 Venture two tone blue and black. Has anyone experienced any problems with there radio/cb buttons not being responsive? This happens to me off and on since I purchased this bike new last year. Is this radio/cb unit covered under the 5year warranty? Thanks.
  5. I talked to the Stealer this morning about my CB not working. It is an intermittent problem. I can hear everyone else talking...can not transmit. I can hear my passenger talking... she can not hear me. I thought maybe a problem with the headset and Mic, traded mine out for my wife's ...same thing. I am also having another problem with changing radio stations. The bike is an '04 RSV with about 30,000 miles on the clock. I also complained about the cassette door hanging closed. I don't use the cassette player but I do use the Aux jack for Sirius radio and for my MP3 player. Also mentioned that whenever I get the horn wet, either by washing the bike or getting caught in the rain...the horn quits working. The Dealer told me to call him back on Tuesday with the mileage and the se`rial numbers from the bike.... said that he would have to contact Yamaha for warranty info, cuz the warranty has "levels" on the audio equipment. Anyone ever heard of this???? and what can I expect? I thought the warranty was bumper to bumper unlimited milage for 5 years. I feel like he's setting me up to screw me out of some money. Any comments?
  6. I called a local dealer asking how one goes about transferring the warranty from the original owner to me. He said you have to do that thru the original selling dealer. Is this true...???
  7. During the time my 02 Midnight was under warranty it would lose the cruise whenever I hit a hard bump. It would have to be turned off then back on and then be reset to speed. Now that it is out of warranty it hardly takes any bump at all without going out. I've looked through all 57 pages of post and did not see anyone mention this paticular problem with their cruise. Has it happened? What should I look ford? It is not a brake or clutch relay. If it was I could just reset the speed. It goes off and the dash lights begin blinking.
  8. I was cleaning out the rear trunk the other day and noticed cracks in the ABS where 3 of the mounting bolts are located. Has anyone else had this problem and if yest any issues getting it replaced on warranty? Thanks
  9. I'm a new owner of a 2008 Venture and after reading all the threads on the leveling links, I decided to order a set from Diamond R yesterday. Is there any problem with Yamaha honoring the warranty with this slight suspension mod? I didn't see anything mentioned, but was just wondering if it could be an issue. Great site, I've learned a ton in a short period of time, thanks for any responses. Smith
  10. Both pulled and tongue weight limits. What're the limits? I've read that the RSV's warranty won't be void if a trailer is pulled and that it is the only MC that can pull one without voiding the warranty. Is that correct? If so, why doesn't the manual say anything about trailering?
  11. How do you transfer the remaining warranty on an RSV to the new owner, any cost?
  12. hi all as some of you know. my new (6 mos old ) pc545 odyssy battery went south on me, at the '08 international rally in kitchener. well i'am finaly getting around to getting it replaced under warranty. last nite in went on to their web site. (http://www.odysseyfactory.com ) looking for a local delear to handle the warranty. the closes delear is a batteries plus about 20 or so miles from me, gave them a call. told the young man the tale about the battery. now the fun begins, the young man wants to know the mod. # of the battery i tell him a pc545. then he wants to know what kind of m/c i tell him a '99 yahama rsv. then he wants to know what cc's is the engine i tell him 1300. he's having trouble, i tell him again it's a pc545. i bought it in a group buy from california. he tells me they have two types of batteries for my bike 1 is an agm and some other one. well now isn't the pc545 an agm? i ride over there this morning and take the battery inside the store. here we go again. this guy has to call hi manger at home to find out if they will do the warranty. now the guy ask me did i buy the battery from them (batteries plus). i tell him no, he tells his manger this and i'am told they NO CAN DO. i'am starting to fume now. i say the battery is only 6 mos old and has a national warrenty. i'am now told they will only honor the warranty if i bought it from them. great here we go passing the buck. i walk away and call odessy home office. talk to a nice lady repete the tale of the battery, and what i was just told at barreries plus. she informs me that they are having some trouble with them honoring the warranty if you didn't buy from them. ok i ask what do i do now? well she transfers me to the warranty division in warrensburg, mo. talk to another nice lady kathy mitchell, tell her the tale as it is up to now. wants to know if my stator is working properly. i said yes, what is the volt output of the battery 11.8 i tell her. how often do i charge the battery? i don't know when ever i feel like it. says i may not be charging it often enought. then wants to know what brand of charger i'am using. i tell her a accumate, she ask is it on their approved list of chargers? i say i don't know. i bought it for my other bike 'cause the accumate i read was suppose to be one of the better 2-amp trickle chargers. she tell me i need a 3 amp of better charger. well i tell her i've never had a problem useing this charger. i plug it in and usualy it's in the green in 20 minutes or so. what it comes down to is she's going to help me, sent me the warranty replacement paperwork by e-mail. mailing it back to her tonite on my way to work. gosh i love it when everything comes together. now if only BATTERIES PLUS gets their act together. sorry for the long post. best reguards don c.
  13. I'm in the dark here. Several people have told me that pulling a trailer will void my warranty. Is this true? Seeing how I plan on buying a Lees-ure Lite trailer, that would definitely put a wrench in the works... On the trailer, I'm currently camping in Osoyoos BC where they're made and took a lengthy look at one on Tues. Pricey, (As I want it equiped) but a great lookin' unit...
  14. Well here is the deal, bought 07 rsv midnight new from dealer with 1 mile on it, had a cb antenna fall off on way to st louis in June, had a different yamaha dealer replace and of course he turned it in for warranty work. Well yesterday he calls me and tells me yamaha denied the warranty work due to the fact that according to what yamaha told him i have only a mechanical/ powertrain only warranty an of couse he wants his 120.00. He stated that yamaha told him that they stated that the orginal dealer in northern ohio that i bought it from a got it in an auction or something to that extent thus causing yamaha to only have a limited powertrain only warranty. Well I called the salesman at Honda east and he had no idea what i was told and that he didn't know what the problem could be. He stated that he would have the person who enters warranty info to yamaha call me on Tuesday after she checks into this. Anyway I need anyone on here have any idea what this situation is and being i bought it in april and that don't give me the warranty that i paid for when purchasing the bike, can I use the lemon law to return it and force them to replace with one that has a the 5 year warranty and of next step also would be to seek legal assistance. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also the dealer i bought the bike from is four hours north of me so I went to yamaha dealer 45 min away to get antenna taken care of
  15. Since my 06 RSTD is in the shop to be repaired after the wreck, I told the Service Mgr that I'd like him to replace the I basket with the H basket and quiet the bike down, since it seems to be a technical problem and should be fixed under warranty. He instantly became a little HOSTILE and told me HE would decide what was a warranty issue. Isn't there a bulletin or something out there that acknowledges this problem? It seems I saw it once but.... What do I need to do to get it changed while its in the shop for a few weeks? Thanks guys! Mark
  16. I have recently purchased 2005 rsv and was told that the warranty could be transfered. Is this true, and if so what is the process? Also can YES warranty be purchased after the bike has a second owner? Any help would be appreciated.
  17. I pulled my radiator overflow tank and pulled the 3 white wire connection apart... I ohmed it out to each other... nothing... I started the bike had black wire to neg side of batery and red probe to all 3 wires (1 at a time) and I got no Voltage... Am I doing something wrong? or did my stator wires some how become disconnected? Does the white plug have to be connected to produce voltage? I'm thinking the Dealer did something to this when I had my Shock Replaced, Cruise & Fuel gauge fixed under warranty. Of course my warranty is run out now and the work was done in March and I haven't done any long trips and have been putting on a tender every night... I kinda knew something was up a while ago when a few times I got a weak crank. Any suggestions??
  18. If your heading out on vacation and say O I almost forgot to upgrade Garmin to 09 map forget it. Depending when you bought your unit you may be eligible for free upgrade to 09 map or you may just be buying it. Point is, it takes anywhere from 2 to 4+ hours to download depending on your computer. This is also assuming you have high speed internet. Longest download I ever did. I also want to say that if you purchase a Garmin on e-bay or any auction site Garmin will NOT honor warranty. There are some good prices on line and they state full warranty but not true. Garmin states this on warranty paper in box.
  19. So, I know this has been beaten into the ground over the years but it looks like my 99's rear shock with 55k on it is finally giving up the ghost. The last two days there has been a small puddle of oil under the shock. No, its the shock, not the vent tubes. Since the bike is way out of warranty I was wondering if there is a TSB from Yamaha on this issue. I have not heard of one before but I could have missed it. Also, has anyone here had any luck with convincing a dealer to give you a new shock for self install based on the history of failures. My next move is a Works shock but for now id take a stock shock if I can glean one from a dealer for free under warranty until I raise the needed cash for the Works. Any ideas????
  20. I made a list of issues to be looked at on the 5 year warranty. Some of the things were common issues like a. front mounting brackets for the lower faring broken b. right bag hard to close and lock almost impossible to work c. whine in the rear end and a couple of other things d. front brakes pulsate e. cb antenna broken at ceramic spacer. The dealership told me these are all non-warranty issues. I called Yamaha and they said they would cover the lock but nothing else. I asked to talk to a sales manager and they said it would take 24 hours for them to return my call. All of these items are on record my warranty expires july 26 or there abouts. Can anyone offer further advise. I am the one that lost 5th gear a couple of years ago. Thanks mike
  21. Due in large measure to the assistance and information from this board, I was able to substaintialy reduce the problem around the "now famous" gear whine or chirp that is very noticable in the 2nd gen Royal Star Venture. My dealer installed the "I Basket" under warranty. Having all the notes and information supplied by the many members who have experienced this issued helped greatly. I am happy to say that the problem is probably 75% fixed. There is still some noticable chirping but it has moved out of the touring speeds, and the tone of the chirp is no where near as annoying as it was previously. I can live with the chirping sound now. What I cant understand is why Yamaha does not just simply FIX the problem to begin with rather than making owners go through and Un-announced warranty procedure. MickO:confused24:
  22. hey all three weeks out with 07 midnight RSV and was wondering does or will Yamaha send me any additonal info on warranty since I didn't get any other than manuals with bike. i guess would like to have a number to call if i break down etc while traveling. Thanks Brian D.

    Ghost In My Cb?

My factory CB (2008 RSV) keeps turning itself on when I'm out riding. Cannot figure out why? Anybody else have this problem? Info on how to stop it would be appreciated? Is it a warranty repair?
  24. Well just closed the deal from a private seller on an '01 RSV. Haven't picked it up yet so no pictures at the moment. Also my first dealings on Ebay and I have to admit it was a good experience. Just a little over 7000 miles, the bike is in beautiful condition. The guy I bought it from, got it from someone in NY who bought it new in '04 (leftover). I guess he needed money earlier this year and had to sell. I know these bikes come with a 5 yr warranty and my question is, because the bike was sold as new in '04, I'm thinking that there should be a little of the warranty left. Anyone have any experience with this? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
  25. I'm about to put my third Garmin 350 in the trash (after less than 10,000 miles). The first two were covered by the warranty. And the warranty is now over. Has anyone gotten upward of 20,000 miles out of any brand of GPS. I can get by with tiny buttons and tinny music if the thing will last a while. I'm a little leary of $700 for a Zumo, given Garmin's track record with me.
