I am really serious about purchasing a full set of heated riding gear; jacket, pants, gloves and socks. I have reviewed several brands; some ridiculously costly and some reasonably priced. So, what sort of advise can members provide in terms of what they have and how they rate their gear. I am leaning towards "Warm Gear" sold by Cozy Winters. As far as what I've read, this "Warm Gear" is specially manufactured for motorcycles. Ok, let me have it.

One of my co-workers has a Suzuki 900 and we ride home together each night because both of us live on Camano Island and work 3pm - 11pm. We believe in "safety in numbers", all 2 of us. Temps are now in the mid 40's for a couple of hours before we get off work. Anyways here's the question: How long do you warm up your bike before you take off? He says it needs to warm up for at least 5 minutes to allow the oil to circulate. I say that's too much. I figure it should only take a couple of minutes at the most. silverdeer

Ok and plumber's out there? I have a hot water heater that is 4 years old. Its a 2 element unit. that is not heating. I have checked and the breaker is Ok and I have 120 volts on both sides of each element. I have replaced the upper element ( I was told this is the heating element and the bottom element was for keeping the water warm.) I turned up both thermostats to max and still no heat. any suggestions ?????? Cold showers were great when you were 16 but not so good when your 60 LOL

My wife and I are planning a 4000 nile trip for early July.. So I thought I would Do a conditioning ride. LOL. Its as good of an excuse as any. I have to deliver some heavy car parts (axles)to a Soldier in Fayetteville NC. So I have made a trailer that's up to the task and plan to leave NH around the 20th of June. My plan is to haul ass straight down to drop the parts... Then take as much time as needed to drive home and Site seeing along the way. My Routes are open to suggestions. Anybody up for a ride or to meet along the way? I plan to Tent it for lodging... But certainly wouldn't turn down a warm bed. I will be traveling alone. I haven't even began to pick a route yet... I will drive mostly Freeways going down... but prefer 2 lanes for the return trip. Running back roads I usually do 2-400 miles aday. Depending on the road and the sites. I'm in no big rush at all. Being a School bus driver... Out for the summer. So... Anybody that could help me out... Or Join for a ride or... Or Sites to see? Drop me a line. My Schedule is Flexible... and so is my route. I bought a pair of these riding pant cause they were low priced ie:$50.00 and had alot of features. Like hip pads,knee pads, quilted removable liner, zipper for jacket etc. These pants are warm down to the 30s and lower with the liner in. The knee pads don't stay put well thou. right side stays for me left one doesn't want to stay over the kneecap. Material looks and feels good has extra heaver mesh on skid zones. Reflective piping is very bright and it had ankle zippers to help getting them off and on. All and all these are a good part time cold weather MC pant. They are bulky and alot of the stitching of little thinks like the liner stays and belt straps are weak.One belt side has broke already, I guess I can sew it back on. For the money, I think they are worth looking at if you just want a pair of warm and padded pair of waterproof pants in your collection of gear. That you can wear every now and then when its nasty out. I don't know how long the will last. But they are very comfy except for the knee pad moving around on you.....

If any of you big guys need a jacket, I just placed a Fieldsheer High Temp 4XL jacket on Ebay, item number 120409437170. It is a mesh jacket that has very good air flow in warm temperatures and has a warm, waterproof liner that can also be worn alone as a jacket. With the liner in it is very comfortable down into the 20's. The jacket is in perfect condition and has been used very little. Does anyone have any of those neoprene face masks. The full face ones. How are they for comfort, do they move around on your face, are they warm, do they limit your visibility, do they cause your glasses to fog?

Summer is coming fast. Pretty soon it will be hot and we'll need something to cool us down while riding. Check out this cooling shirt. This thing looks great. Then next winter, maybe the lines could even be plugged into a coolant line on the bike and you'd be toasty warm. Seems like someone on this board came up with this idea a couple years ago. I can't remember who though. (No, it wasn't me.)

I can't believe it. The weather man is calling for 65 Saturday and 70 Sunday. For those of you who have an open shed for storage the first warm days mean scoot maint. I might fire up a few and take a look. Time for oil change and maint. Hey Dan you got ugly running?

Before I got the electric vest I used Hot Hands Body Warmers to ride when it was it was real cold. Since my DR650 doesn't have enough wattage to support the vest for very long I have purchased some more. They are normally $1.97 at Walmart for a package of three but this time of the year they get put on clearance for about a dollar. The bigger sizes really work good to keep your torso warm which helps everything stay warm.

Well I got up the guts to ride to work today. Left my house at 4:00am at 25 degrees F. The wind was calm and I was wearing my chaps, coat and hooded sweatshirt. Since I wear a half helmet my face started to get cold from my nose to my chin. But it wasn't unbareable so long as I put my glove over my face every now and again. But the ride home was great, in the 40's. Tomorrow it is supposed to get into the 50's so i'm planning to ride again. I bought a face cover to help keep my face warm for tomorrows ride in. I figure as long as the roads aren't snow or ice covered I'll ride. What the heck snowmobilers do it all winter.....why can't I. Just for the sake of all you who think i'm nuts....so did my wife!!!! At least i'm not parked outside of a psyciatrists office. My bike and I have been couped up too long.... YEEEEEE-HAAAAAA let the good times roll!!!!! Big Mike

I'm sure everyone has really missed me on the site lately. Well maybe not. Anyway, it's day eight without any electricity which means no heat and no lights in N.E. Arkansas. Prospect isn't good for the next few days either. I just wanted you all to think about me as you sit in your warm living rooms, watching your wide screen T.V.'s, and snacking on junk food. But I have food, a steady job, roof over my head, and INSULATED overalls. What more do I need.

Just wanted to let everyone know about a really good set of chaps, well at least I think so. Over the Christmas Holidays I ordered a set of chaps from http://www.coloradochaps.com/motorcycle_chaps.html I ordered the Heavy Duty 1000 denier cordura nylon with fleece lining and the knee/shin pads. I was waiting for a cold day to test them and get a good idea of what they feel like. First and foremost I really like these chaps. It was 33 when I left my house and 30 when I got to work and today was the first day I rode with the knee pads in. I can say that it was the first day of riding in weather below 40 that my knees didn't hurt, in fact when I took them off my knees and shins were actually very warm to the touch. Another plus for me was that they loop over your belt so you don't have another belt around your waist digging into your back. They ride higher on your legs covering more of your upper thigh and they don't weigh you down. They are very light about 1/4 the weight of comparable leather chaps. Last year I didn't wear chaps below 45 degrees, I wore a snowmobile suite to keep warm, today the chaps kept me warm. BTW it's a 50 mile ride to work so there was plenty of time to get cold. I highly recommend these chaps even though they are a bit pricey. I intend to get a pair of the light weight ones for summer. Gonna pack my old heavy leather chaps away for good. Oh yeah they are custom made for you, just send them your thigh size and inseam and they will get them out to you. They had mine in the mail in 3 days.

What do you guys wear for winter boots that keep your feet warm? I have a pair of SIDI on the road boots that do a fair job of keeping my feet warm but I want something better that is also waterproof. ttew47

That is 79 more days to the official first day of spring. Yesterdays 45 degree weather was a perfect mid winter brake to take the bike for a spin. Can't wait for the warm weather.

In Indiana........ Looks like we will have an opportunity to ride due to one day of warm weather. Man, I'm hoping that this is true. I'm not sure where I'll go, but I might just point the bike somewhere and see where it takes me. As I write this it's about 18 degrees but Sunday will be almost 50 degrees...hopefully...

Last week I went to put on my winter jacket and found that I had expanded my wastline and could not zipup my jacket. So I wanted a new Tour Master trans.2. ;As I called around nobody had one. I called competition accessories and they were out too. But the sales said he had other jackets and the price was negotiable. Well he offered me a Fieldsheer Quattro in high Vis yellow for the same price as the Tour master, $152. I think I got a good deal. Also bought Calela's gore-tex Pinnacle glove for $50,in reviews a guy said he wore then in -25 degrees and his hands were warm. Glove is used in Alaska in dog sleigh racing. Hope they are as warm as they say. tew47

Yesterday, After returning from Pilots Home, Which by the way that Guy adjusted my Carbs and Its Never run that good, Thanks Jim!!!! any way, I got home and when I removed the Key it was pretty warm... Well an Hour later I started the bike up and reved it a time or two and put her away. Well the Key was very warm and the Ignition switch was also very warm. I removed the two allen heads and pulled the cover on the tank and the whole Barrel for the key was very warm, almost uncomfortable to touch very long. I left the cover off and in about 4-5 hours checked it again. It was cool. Now it did sit in the sun but i wouldnt think it should get that hot. Everything works so, do I have a switch going up or is it something I shouldnt worry about. Heat like that to me means a large Amp draw some place, but i could be wrong.. I dont want to end up like this...

just need some piece of mind or there is a problem. i live in n.j. and i've been riding finally, temps have been in the 30"s & 40"S but it seems to take the bike a long time to warm up before i can go. if it doesn't it stalls....is this the norm? only have 300 miles on the bike..... thanks for any feed back, bob

Hello, Im a new member with no more hot foot. First off, I'd like to thank ventureriders.org. I thought I would share my experience with you of my '06 RSTD. It's very disappointing when the temp. rises above 75+ degrees off the engine. I've heard other members complain about the heat. I have no problem with my right side, but the left side of my bike is bad. And I also noticed that when the fan comes on at a stop, the heat blows down on my left foot. The same thing happens down the road and it makes matters worse. To solve this problem, I thought I would install a small heat shield and see if this helps. This all was before I installed lower vents and kuryakyn foot pegs. So I decided to make a small heat shield out of stainless steel, its very light and easy to bend. First off, I pulled off the rubber foot pad and then cut it to the length of 8 inches long, and then bent it to a 90 degree angle on one side. I made it 4.5'' tall in the front, 3.5'' in the rear. It gives it a nice taper. Then I put a radius on each corner at the top. The easy way to find a center hole, take a little grease, put a dab in the center of the bolt head. Now you can set it in place, lean it towards the bolt head, and there's where to drill your pilot hole. Make the hole just large enough to fit over the groove on the linkage. If you need to, you can tweak your bend so it leans tight against the linkage. Now you can put the pad back on, and tuck it in against the shield, holding it secure. This seems to work out great for me when its warm out. Give it a try. Maybe paint it, or a different metal, or whatever works best for you. Now you can take it in, or out, whether its cold or warm outside, or for just cleaning matters. I hope this helps fellow members out.
