  1. I was reading some history about the RSV Millenium Edition. I understand that Yamaha built 1,500 of the 2000 Royal Star Venture Milleniums and 1,000 of them were shipped to the United States. It looks like they were the only Venture model that were a specifically numbered series. The Numbered Tag is on the trunk lid. So, how many of those 1,000 Ventures are still being used on the roads in the U.S.? What number do you have? MM #452
  2. Anyone have any info on the remodel of the Venture for 2010. I have heard that they are gonna completely redesign it, no more cassette player and a toned down version of the new VMax engine....Waiting on info before I buy a new bike.
  3. First, I need new tires... What is your recommendation for brand? Second, Is it possible to go to 150 on the back? Is there anything to be gained by that change? Thanks, Mark Koontz '83 Venture Wichita, KS:680:
  4. Anybody have recommended website source(s) for parts....1984 Venture Royale. Tks
  5. I don't understand all the haters out there that INSIST Its horribly dangerous to run a car tire on the rear wheel. I have over 30,000 miles on my BF Goodrich 155/80R15 (i have a 2005 Venture) and have had zero problems. I expect to get 40,000 miles out of my $85 tire. That's a savings of what, $600 ? I take turns just as fast as anybody, and the bike is just as stable. I felt a MUCH bigger change switching from the OEM Dunlop tire to a Metzler. Does that mean Metzler makes tires that are super scary unsafe? Of course not. If those who fear the Darkside like paying $160 every 8,000 miles for a new tire, more power to ya. But stop screaming I'm a fool, tanking my life in my hands, gonna kill myself any day now. Moms all over the world have been whining that tune to every motorcycle rider since the 50's. My zero wrecks, zero close calls, and $600 savings tell me I made the right call, and I'll do it again when I finally need a new rear tire in 10,000 miles.
  6. Yamaha Royal Star Venture - Models 2001 vs. 2007 (I have my 2007 RSV listed here in the classified - but maybe some people might find this little blurb of mine interesting?) One year ago I never thought that I could afford to ever own Yamaha Royal Star Venture. Today I own and ride 2 of them! PTL! A short note here to let the reader know the differences that I have experienced riding each. Handling 07 - Better in maneuvering from pushing it around in the garage or a parking lot to the open road. Both have 40 lbs air in both tires. 01 has Dunlop, 07 has Bridgestone tubeless tires. But there is more to it than handing, When I stop with the 07 at a light it stops straight as an arrow. The 01 is more difficult to balance for some unknown reason. In the turns/curves at highway speed, the 01 has to be pushed because it always wants to correct itself and stand upright. The 07 just loves them and allows a faster rate of speed with more confidence of the rider (me!). Transmission/drive train 07 - is much less noisy - in fact a very pleasant sound emanates from the powerful V4. I decided to put loud fishtail pipes on the 01 to distract from its annoying whining. the 07 shifts crisper and easier. The 07 engine seems to rev a little higher before the governor kicks in. Comfort About the same except that the 07 has better ergonomics in the shift & brake levers which are wider and more comfortable than the narrower 01's. Suspension 07 - feels better over the bumps, not much, but my wife & I noticed the difference when we rode the 07 again after riding the 01 for several monhs. Braking 07 - no squeak/squeal of the front brake and seems like less effort and a smoother stop than the 01. Keep in mind that there are only 500 more miles on the 01 than the 07!
  7. Baby Boomers Hope this works, funny and hits close to home
  8. Looking to replace my Larin MC jack (MAL-2C). The jack bottle died, second one to do that. (but must admit it does not get used often) Also, the balance with the Venture on it is very poor, actually downright scarry. Seems to be a toss up between the Pit Bull and the J&S. Want something sturdy, good balance with a Venture in the air, and good warranty. I do alerady have Carbon One's adapter. I may see what's at the IMS this weekend in Atlanta. Suggestions? Thanks, Mike G
  9. I'm back and looking to buy a Royal Star Venture. I've owned an 83, 86, and 89 Venture Royale. I was not able to flat foot these bikes but never had an issue until I had to have major back surgery (thank you Ms. drunk driver ). I sold my 89 after I almost dropped it when my foot slipped at a red light and the back pain it caused was almost too much to handle. I'm ready now to get back on one but not unless I can flat foot it. Yesterday I tried out a Royal Star Venture, Newer Goldwing, Kawasaki, and a Harley (all touring bikes). The only one I could comfortable flatfoot was the Harley and of course it was the most expensive. I really have my heart set on a Royal Star Venture. Is there a safe, logical way to lower these bikes that won't ruin the handling? Is there an aftermarket comfortable seat that may help? Thanks for any advice.
  10. I used to have a 99 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1500 and join a Vulcan Riders group. Now that I have a Venture, I would like to get together & ride with some Venture Riders. Are any of you in the Omaha, NE area and would like to ride together sometime? craigr
  11. Greetings! Just purchased a 1988 Venture. Just registered with your site also. I've been out of biking for over fifteen years until a good friend of mine and his wife purchased an '07 Venture and appeared to be having a great time and rekindled my interest. The '88 model I just purchased is in great shape but it's needing tires. Any advise on what's good or what to stay away from? Thanks!
  12. I have a 1983 Venture XVZ 1200 with 52,000 miles on it. Last year for no reason it would loose power and die without warning. I took it to two separate mechanics but by the time they were able to look at it the darn thing started and ran fine. They attempted to replicate the problem but without success. I did a little research and figured it was some sort of vapor lock. I checked the roller valve on the right side of the bike and found it was stuck. I replaced it in December 2012 and it ran flawlessly since. Last weekend I was riding in the IBA SS 1K and after 100 milesin the middle of the night it just quit! I had just fueled two miles and 5 minutes earlier when it stopped. Again it sounded like a vapor lock. It simply lost power and died! I opened the fuel cap, no excess pressure. I checked the roller valve and it was functioning like new. I ended up running the battery down trying to restart it. The night was cool and clear. I spent 7 hours on the side of the road waiting for assistance. The following morning after a jump start and a small squirt of starting fluid the bike fired and ran like there was no problem. I can no longer trust the bike on out of town trips which really bums me out! Has anyone ever experienced a similar problem? I'm not a mechanic, more like a parts changer if you know what I mean. Any help would be appreciated.
  13. As many of you already know I started making an auxiliary harness for the 2nd Gen Royal Star Ventures a few months ago. These plug in between the connectors under the seat that connect the main harness to the fender harness and allow you to easily make connections to the taillight, brake light and turn signal circuits for adding more lights or attaching to a trailer harness. I am happy to announce that with the help of some folks here and also over on Delphi that I can now expand the offering to include 1996 to 2001 original Royal Stars, 2005 and up Tour Deluxe, V-Stars and Road Stars. I was finally able to obtain the second style connector used by Yamaha. You can see a photo of the basic RS Venture harness in the Second Gen Parts Classified section. I am sorry to say that I still have not found the connectors for the GEN I Ventures and Venture Royales, but I am still looking. Thanks again to all that have purchased harnesses already and for all of the positive feed back I have received on them. Please do ride safe.
  14. Does the front wheel have to be removed to lower the front end (2008 venture)?
  15. Hi guys, I have a couple of friends that have picked up the Venture. So... in the follow the pack mentality.. I'm selling a couple of bikes to a friend and looking for a used Venture. I have my eye on an 89 with 65K miles. Owner says it was serviced 2K ago. Question: What should I look for, or be aware of regarding a Venture of this year/mileage ? Any unique issues/repairs etc ? I know every bike has it's own issues. I appreciate any input. Bill
  16. Hello from Mechanicsburg, Ohio!! I just bought an 87' Royale, and recently found this board, and reading all I can about the bike. I'm really enjoying riding the Venture, I had an 86' Honda Shadow that I rebuilt, and had a blast with, but it was a bit small for me so I sold it and got the Venture. Here are a couple of pics... http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/3975d084.jpg http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab243/BriRit/f6bafb2b.jpg I got a good deal on the bike, but it does need some TLC and cleaning, some plastic is cracked or broken and I already repaired the CLASS. I've racked up $700 in new parts and have been slowly putting them on and checking the bike mechanicly as well. I haven't started to clean it up yet as all of my time has been spent wrenching, but it should clean up nicely. It runs really strong, and the previous owner had a bunch of maintenance items done before he sold it. I'm sure I will have tons of questions, and hopefully contribute a bit as well. Later, Briley.
  17. I wreck my 83. I will be down for about a year. Got to have rods and screws put in my right leg. Got stiches in my chest and upper arm. My face looks like Mike Tyson hit me a few times. Road rash every where. I have not look at the bike yet but was told its banged up good. I wanting to know if anyone here has ever seen are made a bobber out of a venture bike?
  18. Would this work on our Venture system? http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=BMP-HGW-IPD-V03
  19. Just a thought- Has anyone considered creating a letter to Yamaha from this group as a whole, signed by any of our members that want to, that would express our collective admiration about our ventures as well as our frustrations with recurring issues (i.e. the whine), the lack of updates and give our suggestions regarding new models? The idealistic part of me would like to think that if we were able to send this (ultimately as a hard copy as well as electronically) to one of the upper Yamaha corporate officers that it may at least peak their interest. Even though the cynic in me says "what's the point", I've always tried to live by the motto that if you don't try to improve things you don't have the right to complain. I'm a fairly new venture owner, and maybe not intimately familiar with all of the venture issues, but I would be happy to help in creating such a letter with help from the group if the interest was there.
  20. Hi everyone. Until last Friday I had been riding a 2009 Suzuki Boulevard C50 that I purchased new. Nice bike, but no matter what I did to it (batwing, mustang seats, hard bags, etc.) I just wasn't able to turn a cruiser into a comfortable long distance bike. I made several trips from my home in northern Indiana to my former home in Lexington, Ky on the C50. 4.5 hr trip and I would be mentally and physically exhausted upon arrival. I knew I needed something bigger and more road worthy. I was thinking used Gold Wing and began watching the Craigslist ads. I kept seeing a 1983 Venture Royale in immaculate condition popping up and there was just something about this bike that I liked. Long story short, I listed my C50 on the Chicago craigslist thursday morning and delivered it to a guy in Kankakee, Illinois on friday afternoon. I was back in Lafayette by 4pm and had the Venture in my garage by 7pm. Things were working out! I took it out saturday and made a 300 mile ride up to the Indiana Dunes area by Michigan city for lunch. The bike performed flawlessly and even after riding 6 plus hours and 300 miles I was completely relaxed and felt great when I got home. Some friends think I'm crazy for selling a almost new bike and buying a 30 year bike but I'll tell you I couldn't be happier. I'm aware of the 2nd gear issue and hope to learn more from the tech forums. Any advice on maintenance or things to watch for would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to meeting other Venture riders in my area. Thanks. Greg. http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o196/TSM01/IMAG0127.jpg http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o196/TSM01/IMAG0126-1.jpg http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o196/TSM01/IMAG0128.jpg http://http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o196/TSM01/IMAG0127.jpg http://http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o196/TSM01/IMAG0125.jpg http://http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o196/TSM01/IMAG0128.jpg
  21. TEW47

    New bike

As of the 11th I sold my Venture and now a Honda NC700x. For me it is so much easier to ride and weights 400 lbs less and am getting close to 70mpg on the first tank of gas. Hated to sell the Venture but the Nc700x is better for me. Thanks for all the help over the years, you saved me hundreds of dollars. tew47
  22. Just stumbled upon this youtube video of a Venture and a couple of Goldwings drag racing. Running in the low 14's I thought the Venture held up very well to the Goldwing. [ame] [/ame] Dennis
  23. ...May 2013 be your best ever!
  24. Let me introduce myself, My names Luke, Im 18, in collage at Michigan Tech, and have been riding bikes for 2 years now. I have had 3 bikes in that time my first (and current) 1982 Virago 750, an old Honda XL18s basket case i put back together and traded that for a 1974 Honda CB550 cafe'd it (http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=32766.0), rode it for a month and a half and sold it. I have always kinda liked the touring bikes (venture being my favorite that i could afford), and am looking to get something a little more practical for a long haul or two and I am a big guy (6'3, 200 lbs) so i want something bigger than my Virago, I have a chance to trade my extra truck (long story how it became extra) for a 1983 Venture with 24000 miles and a 1966 Suzuki B100P. I am excited, already have plans for the Venture. If at least the venture checks out i should have 2 more bikes in my collection in less than a week! Does anyone have know any specific things i should inspect hard/ problem area's on this bike when i check it out? Also I will have some cash and time over the winter to do some work and upgrade the bike over the winter is there any upgrades you would suggest i make (GPS, driving lights, tapered steering bearings...anything)
