  1. Just picked up a 2007 Royal Star Venture Midnight edition with 15k miles for $4500. While think it’s a great looking bike, it’s super heavy and doesn't seem to accelerate out of 1st gear like my 83 Venture Royal. Is this just me or do need a tune up? I was told it had never seen a drop of ethanol and always maintained. I also feel like this bike gets thrown around on the highway. I’m going to try the wider front tire, soon as I decide if I keep it or fix 2nd gear in the 83. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
  2. Hello everyone! I just found this forum a few minutes ago and decided to give it a shot. I worked a deal last night and got an '83 Venture. It's not running right now, but he has a clear title on it (big plus). I am looking forward to getting her home and getting started. I hope I can pick peoples' brains from time to time in case I get stuck on something. I'm including a pic of my "beautiful" basket case.
  3. I have a shop full of 1st gen Venture parts for sale. Body plastic, frames, seats, windshields, wiring harnesses, tires, wheels. If you need it I have it. Send me a picture of what you need and I'll let you know if I have it and a price. Did I mention I have it? The Fundi.
  4. Hello everyone I'm new here sort of introduced myself here and posted pics of my "new" bike http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?137259-Welcome-to-the-forum-Harddrv1-from-Fort-kent-AB. Anyway I built a 3d printer a few years ago and to keep costs low was wondering if anyone has any 3d models of fairing for the 84 venture if so I would be grateful if you could share them or email them to me, Im not a great modeler but I may attempt to patch mine up the best I can and scan them to make them printable if I can. Or redesign them if I can but I'm hopping one of you has done this already so I can just use your thanks in advance
  5. Hey everyone, I'm in the search for information regarding the cowling on a 1300 V-Star Deluxe. I like the new shape Yamaha has gone with, and considering the cowling on my '02 Venture has seen better days I decided to look into replacing it with a new one from a V-Star. I've contacted my local dealer for some schematics and called the corporate office but I haven't gotten too far. What I'm mostly trying to answer is: 1. How similar are the mounting screw positions for the two bikes? 2. Has anyone also looked into this, and received any better information? 3. Is the V-Star 1300 relatively the same as the Royal Star? That's all. Let me know your thoughts!
  6. I was at the Home Depot electrical dept. today and spotted these, and my first thought was they could be used as a replacement for the rubber straps that hold the side covers on the MkII Venture. It seems to be a small bungee cord with grommet, and about the perfect size for the application. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  7. Well after talking to several members who have given their unanimous endorsement, My 84's seat is on it's way to Rick Butler for modding! I honestly don't know what I would do with my Venture if not for the members here. BEST $12 buck a year I EVER spend. Thank you all for you help!~ Andy
  8. My Yamaha Stryker before modifications and after. and the Venture on the day I bought it. Wife and I decided we needed a Tourer so we picked up the Venture and the Stryker will be getting another face lift and become a solo bike for shows and my therapy time alone.
  9. everyone is buying aftermarket fairings. My question is why cant or wouldn't you buy a fairing from Yamaha for a venture, and mount it on a rstd. would this work?
  10. I'm tired of it...it has snowed every single day this year... And I can honestly state that I have ridden my Venture every day this year..even with the snow..
  11. Got a lot going on and thinking of Dropping both the 08 Venture Royale and the Roadstar Midnight. Or at least the Venture for a FJR 1300 2013 ES. It just seems it would fit me better the way I ride and where I ride. I have hung out with the Concours Owners Group on some rides and I just like the Ability of that bike but not the few drawbacks it has. Considered a Triumph but ditched that Idea (1200 no go) So far as I look the FJR 1300 is near as perfect as I can get for single, two up and towing. So before I let my beloved beast 2008 go that I have spent so much time outfitting and buying everything Carbon one has for it (LOL) I thought I might ask if anyone has owned both a Venture and a FJR 1300 Keep in mind I am going for the ES model for sure. So any suspension woes you had, don't mention it, that is fixed on the ES. EVEN if you KNOW someone who had the FJR 1300 chime in. I may be letting the Venture go, package deal, trailer and all. I have a crap load of spare parts! Even spare Bags and Wheels and Diff and Fenders, Hard to decide what goes between the Venture and the roadstar, but Think I like one water cooled and one air cooled so thinking of keeping the Midnight RoadStar. If the dealer was open today and had one, I might have bought one today. I know one drawback is going to be the seating position. Legs tuck under and pegs instead of boards. Ugh,
  12. Looking forward to playing with the Venture I just got. 100% complete and it runs on ether. Looks like it's been leaking from several spot's for awhile and after this cup of coffee is done I'm gonna get back at making it roll. Trying to get it out a bit to see if the tranny is OK and whether or not it obviously is too far gone overall. If it's worth doing, I'll have the best running 500 dollar (purchase price) Venture out there by the end of the winter! Been wrenching a long time and enjoy the tinkering, cleaning stuff up, polishing and overall fun of not having to worry about riding ten miles down a dirt road that turns into a two track to find a cool camping spot. Have owned every Japanese make over the years as well as HD, the Yamaha's I've played with have always turned out to be the best ones. Rehabbed an 82 Virago 920 this summer and have that on the road still, a fun street fighter but not what I need to hit the interstate for a serious trip. At 52 this is my first ever bagger, I'm too burned out on the Then Came Bronson fantasy and as long as I aint wearing a sweat suit and riding a Goldwing my cred should still be good.
  13. I have a 1983 Venture XVZ 1200 with 52,000 miles on it. Last year for no reason it would loose power and die without warning. I took it to two separate mechanics but by the time they were able to look at it the darn thing started and ran fine. They attempted to replicate the problem but without success. I did a little research and figured it was some sort of vapor lock. I checked the roller valve on the right side of the bike and found it was stuck. I replaced it in December 2012 and it ran flawlessly since. Last weekend I was riding in the IBA SS 1K and after 100 milesin the middle of the night it just quit! I had just fueled two miles and 5 minutes earlier when it stopped. Again it sounded like a vapor lock. It simply lost power and died! I opened the fuel cap, no excess pressure. I checked the roller valve and it was functioning like new. I ended up running the battery down trying to restart it. The night was cool and clear. I spent 7 hours on the side of the road waiting for assistance. The following morning after a jump start and a small squirt of starting fluid the bike fired and ran like there was no problem. I can no longer trust the bike on out of town trips which really bums me out! Has anyone ever experienced a similar problem? I'm not a mechanic, more like a parts changer if you know what I mean. Any help would be appreciated.
  14. I don't understand all the haters out there that INSIST Its horribly dangerous to run a car tire on the rear wheel. I have over 30,000 miles on my BF Goodrich 155/80R15 (i have a 2005 Venture) and have had zero problems. I expect to get 40,000 miles out of my $85 tire. That's a savings of what, $600 ? I take turns just as fast as anybody, and the bike is just as stable. I felt a MUCH bigger change switching from the OEM Dunlop tire to a Metzler. Does that mean Metzler makes tires that are super scary unsafe? Of course not. If those who fear the Darkside like paying $160 every 8,000 miles for a new tire, more power to ya. But stop screaming I'm a fool, tanking my life in my hands, gonna kill myself any day now. Moms all over the world have been whining that tune to every motorcycle rider since the 50's. My zero wrecks, zero close calls, and $600 savings tell me I made the right call, and I'll do it again when I finally need a new rear tire in 10,000 miles.

    New bike

As of the 11th I sold my Venture and now a Honda NC700x. For me it is so much easier to ride and weights 400 lbs less and am getting close to 70mpg on the first tank of gas. Hated to sell the Venture but the Nc700x is better for me. Thanks for all the help over the years, you saved me hundreds of dollars. tew47
  16. Just stumbled upon this youtube video of a Venture and a couple of Goldwings drag racing. Running in the low 14's I thought the Venture held up very well to the Goldwing. [ame] [/ame] Dennis
  17. ...May 2013 be your best ever!
  18. wrecked the o6 venture i just bought last year at thanksgiving,( 11-27-11 ) went deer hunting with it on 12-2- 12! totaled it but i'm still here and able to start the heal'n process! found another 06 venture with 14k miles on it. Question? old one was a royal star venture, the title on this one says it's a royal star midnight venture? is there a difference , or just a xtra word on the title? bikes both look the same, only this one does'nt have any bling on it yet! same color and so on.l please let me know if yaz know anything? Thanks!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AN YOURS! May it be all you want and more!:bighug:
  19. Hello everyone I am interested in learning more about my 2003 venture which was recently purchased. I have ridden a total of 30 miles on it, but has 24xxx. I am confused and concerned about things such as the lowering kit, how it's on and any advice on what to look for. Was there any adjustments on the front end? Tires, brakes, electrical etc. the shop says all is good, but I feel weird not knowing much. I live in spring hill, and some that were on the left coast have expired memberships. I am willing to ride down and meet with anyone who is available and willing to show this newbie about RSV. Perhaps anyone in the Tampa / St. Pete/, or anyone near hillsborough, pasco, Hernando, citrus, counties. Heck, I will even trek to Ocala. There are some nice roads by me and some nice little beaches and bars / eateries if some want an excuse to ride this way I would appreciate all input and your time as well. No rush and perhaps there may be more free time after the holidays. I am open to suggestions. Thank you all. Barrycuda.
  20. I am sure many of you will laugh at me but here it goes. The day is coming, although hopefully not for several years, when it will be just too much for me to get my leg over my 1st gen Venture and it will be just too heavy for me to handle it safely. I'm sure not looking forward to that day as I like my VR as much or more than any of the bikes I have owned over the last 49 years. Well, at the Toronto Bike show this past weekend, I saw a new model BMW that I think will allow me to keep on riding and enjoying it. Here it is:http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcycles/2012models/2012-BMW-C650GTc.jpg Yes, its a scooter that BMW calls a C650GT which has all the features that I think will make it an extremely comfortable two up touring machine. The only limitation that I can see is that it may not allow me to pull a trailer. Has anyone here seen one of these on the road or rode one? Here in Ontario, I know BMW will feature this model at their demo day this spring.
  21. Good day everyone. I need some help. I am trying to locate a connector that plugs into the voltage regulator/rectifier for a 99 Royal Star Venture. The primary red and black wires need to be at least 12 guage wiring with about 6 or 8 inches to the wire in length. If anyone has one they would like to sell please contact me. Thank you!!!! Dan
  22. I dropped my bike in my driveway and blew out a disc in my back trying to pick it up. Been in bed for ten days now. I am 61 and live with a few disabities... 4 bad back disc , 5 right shoulder operation and 2 knee. I am heathy .. just broken. I have watched " who to pick up your bike " on YOUTUBE and now see I did everything wrong. That is not my question.... somewhere on the forum I THINK I read if you trike a Venture there is now a "reverse kit" ???? If I can not get "reverse" I am going to have to sell and think about a Goldwing trike. I have no problem with getting a Goldwing but it would be cheaper if I could trike my Venture. I like my venture for it's stlying and dependability . Any information would be nice thank you Cb

    Mirrors

I'm looking for a set of stock mirrors for a 2nd gen Venture. Thanks, Mark Headdoc
  24. are the triple trees the same on a royal star and a royal star venture. i found a set of barron raked trees but it says for a royal star/roadstar 96-12 need to know will they fit my 1999 venture and any mods if any needed
  25. Have any Venture Riders ever thought or heard of swapping the 1300cc out with the thumping 1854cc of the Stratoliner? Would it bolt to the transmition of the Venture since they're both 5 speeds? Don't get me wrong, I love my ride, and I understand it's a bike in it's own class built for the long cruise. But what if...What if it could be more? What if I could have the luxurious comfort of Yamaha's #1 tour bike, powered by the loping thump of Yamaha's biggest V-Twin? So...what do you all think? Has it been done, or can it be done?
