  1. Here are some more pictures of our trip to deals gap on Friday. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2208997538801.2119258.1063337614&l=98b9b37f7d&type=1
  2. TWICE Which renewed my membership in the "I dropped my Bike at Vogel" Club. Hmmm Dropped it once on my 1st Vogel trip and twice on the 2nd trip, does that mean I gotta do it 3 times next Vogel???
  3. I have a 2006 RSV with 41,000 miles. I just returned from a 2 week trip from Ohio to California and back. The bike ran like a dream and I want to keep it that way. I am wondering what preventive work I should be doing on my bike?? Here is a list of recent mait/work; 1) New fuel pump - warranty 2) New stearing head bearing - warranty 3) New brake lines/front and back 4) Valves adjusted 2 months ago 5) New radio/rec - warranty 6) Just chaged oil after my trip and final drive oil 7) System flush before the trip - still have original radiator, hoses, etc.... Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!!
  4. This summer me and my two sons took a trip from Sweden, through Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. We visited cities/villages as Fussen (and saw the famous http://www.neuschwanstein.de/englisch/palace/index.htm , you can see where Disney got his inspiration drawing castles!), Riva de Garda (http://www.tripadvisor.ie/LocationPhotos-g194883-Riva_Del_Garda_Lake_Garda_Trentino_Alto_Adige.html) etc. We also rode over the Grossglockner pass (http://www.grossglockner.at/en/) and it was snowing up there! My VXZ 1200 (-84) functioned flawless except for a bit of trouble with the carging of the battery. I was lucky and found oxide on the connector from the generator. After removing the oxide it was back in business! In total 4100 km and great fun!
  5. My daughter is graduating Marine corp basic training. We have ridden many miles on my Goldwing and I will be surprizing her by picking her up at the Airport Friday Night on my 2011 RSV. She has no idea I have the bike. In the last three months all we got was a call last Sunday for 6 minutes and of course letters. I am so very proud of her. She will be a member of the Marine Corp Band. She still has to attend combat training in 24 days. My Mom, Wife and Son have gone down to bring her back. I cant go since I am the Head Football Coach at my High School and we have an upcoming scrimmage. I have a trip planned leaving for Washington Island which is off the tip of Door County, WI. You have to take a ferry to get there. She doesnt know this trip is planned either. It will be fun for the both of us as we visit the various State Parks Sunday on the way home. Semper Fi
  6. Hey folks, it has been a while since my favourite US beer brand has been available in Ontario, Gennessee Cream Ale. I am in the process of getting my citizenship card in order to obtain my passport, at which point I plan on making a border run. (Red tape nightmare) Once I get this I plan on making a trip for some beer. Where is the cheapest place close to the Fort Erie or Niagara Falls border where I can score some? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.
  7. Rocket is on a Cross Continent trip with a friend. They are on an 83 and 86 venture pulling an Aluma trailer, if you see them give them a thumbs up! I hope they have a good time and a safe trip. If anyone wants to follow them on their tour, here is the link to Pauls Spot locator. http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0dW2uviFRmfVBIi65A9vRaQ1osJHe2jOq Brian
  8. ... in no particular order. http://s393.photobucket.com/albums/pp16/SilvrT/Cody%202011/
  9. Ok short story is the gentleman that bought my silverwing flew in today to pick it up and ride it to Indiana and then on to Arizona. The plan went as it was supposed to except one thing, he is inexperienced and in ten blocks has already has several mishaps. What do I do now? I am not comfortable in letting him take it on a cross country trip when he cant get it across town!! Legally i cant stop him. But morally it aint right for me to let him go. Any and all help appreciated. Shaun
  10. Well, the wife and I just got back from a nice trip. We left NJ on Monday morning and went up along the Delaware river into Port Jervis, NY. then up 209 to around kingston and up 9w (depressing) and some other back roads and stayed just north of Saratoga Springs. Next day it was doing some sighting in the area and then up to Vermont and then south through the Green Mountains and into the Berkshires of MA. Then back to NY for the night and then home to South Jersey. Nice trip. It only rained 4 or 5 times. Mostly on top of the mountains.
  11. Sad day in many ways, I dropped the Venture off at the dealer today as a trade in on the new Yamaha Super Tenere due in in a week or so. I am ready to do a little adventure riding before I get to old . A trip to Alaska is on my bucket list as well. The Venture was an awesome bike that did everything I wanted it to do, took me from Dallas to NY State, Blue Ridge Parkway, Dragon's Tail, Custer S.D. and surrounding states more than once, a trip following the Mississippi River, and much more. Always had it serviced at the dealer and never had a single warranty issue in 6 years. Anyone interested will find it at Stadium Yamaha in Irving, TX. Fastest color, Quicksilver, 40k miles, new tires, new battery, just serviced. I cleaned it all up and rode it in and almost couldn't drop it off, it rode as good as the first time I took delivery. I big thanks to all those on this board that go out of their way to help others with advice and photo's of installs, etc. It's been a great ride. I am just glad that Yamaha made my next bike so that I didn't have to go to BWM. See you down the road! Tim
  12. I am planning a trip from Ontario to Lake Placid, New York for July 14-17th. Can anyone suggest any scenic/twisty routes while there or things to do and see. As well looking for recommendations on hotels to stay at in the area. Thanks for your thoughts.
  13. Just got back from a cross-country trip of just under 5000 miles. Salt Lake City to Kansas City, to Columbus,OH, then down to Raleigh area. Met up with my nephew and went over and did about 1000 miles in and around the Dragon including Tennessee, northern Georgia and North Carolina. The Dragon was awesome, ran it 4 times. Ended up having to replace my back tire while there after only 10,000 miles, unfortunately the only tire they had was a Pirelli. Longest day was 906 miles with 105 degree temps across Wyoming & Kansas. Can't say enough about how beautiful the Appalachian Mountains were, totally different than the Rockies were I live.
  14. I rode the bike out Thursday about 3 hours on some good twisties to Montauk State Park. We fished until Sunday morning. All total I landed 120+ trout, all of which were in the catch and release area, so someone else will get to have their fun with them too. Attached is a photo of the fish of the trip. My conservative estimate is 5 lbs but my buddy said he thought he was more like 6 to 6 1/2 lbs. He sure was chunky and fun to catch. Had a good ride home in a sprinkle all the way home. Nice and cool. It was a great trip.
  15. Happy Birthday Dad!!! Hope you have a great day. Can't wait to hear about your trip. Love ya Baby Tater
  16. Yes...I knew better. I have a PROGRESSIVE pump for the front, but I don't have a bicycle pump. So I thought I would just TAP the the air hose on the REAR SHOCK. It went up to 60 lbs...now I am worried about the seals. It did not pop...and it holds the air now (or at least appears to hold air so far)...but is it possible I could have pumped it up that high without blowing the seals? Yeah...I know STUPID. But with our trip starting tomorrow, I kinda want to know what to expect... In fact, what if it is blown...can I still ride until I get back from the trip?
  17. Hello...I am newer here and looking to buy a 2000 - 2005 Venture. What all is displayed on the LCD display? I know speed, both MPH & KPH, fuel gauge, trip ODO. & bike mileage. Is there a clock or volt meter? I just can't tell from pics online. Thank You.
  18. “WE’RE BACK!” As many of you know our one year trike build took three and a half years to finish. With less than 400 miles on the new trike we started our adventure June 15th, eventually spanning 10 states, 26 days. and 4,020.3 miles. The worst gas mileage was 19.83 MPG and the best 35.7 MPG, with an average MPG of 30.954 for the trip. The only problem we had with the trike part was the two new lnner CV joint boot clamps did not hold properly even though I had bought the special tool to tighten the clamps with. We had to have them changed out with worm-type hose clamps in Newcastle, Wyoming. However Charlize. the 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale half decided to lose all power going up a hill just after passing a truck. Eventually I performed enough surgery to get us into Lusk Wyoming where she threw another fit. This time I got out a piece of string that was in the lower trunk and bound the wiring harness to a handy place making a temporary fix, that would do until a better one came along. At this point she started flooding so out came one of what would be many cans Sea-Foam and Lucas oil fuel system cleaner. However, she kept flooding off and on till we left Reno for Red Bluff California. Wa La, no more flooding. The electrical problem was solved in Colorado Springs, Colorado with the installation of a new spade-type fuse block. The temperature gauge quit working in Gallup, New Mexico after crossing what seemed like 20 railroad tracks, never to work again. I learned a lot about trike idiosyncrasies, some we like some not so much. As we came through Roseburg, Oregon on the final stretch home to Springfield OR, I told Marilla that I wouldn't take a Million Bucks for the memories, but I didn't think you could pay me enough to do it again. For the record I hate, no we, hate wind! P.S. I need an E-ZSteer. Does anyone know where I can get one for an '89 Venture Royale? Here are links to photobucket albums showing pictures we took on the trip. http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/vicco2763/Custer%20Battlefield/ http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/vicco2763/Mount%20Rushmore/ http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/vicco2763/Fan%20Fest/ http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/vicco2763/Petrified%20Forest%20and%20Painted%20Desert/ http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/vicco2763/Pikes%20Peak%20and%20Garden%20of%20the%20Gods/ http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/vicco2763/Pikes%20Peak%20Hwy/ http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/vicco2763/Skywalk%20area/ http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/vicco2763/Through%20Yellowstone/ http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/vicco2763/Trip%20Batch%20Two/ http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/vicco2763/Ultimate%20Road%20Trip/

  20. Was wondering what do people carry the extra gas for a long trip in....
  21. We will be heading out soon for the Georgia area with the RV and RSV. Since the wife will not tent camp we like to take the RV to some state camp ground them hop on the RSV and ride from there to see the area. We might do an overnight in a hotel if the loop is more than a one day ride. Generally we haul the unigo with the 2 Border Terriers, they love to ride. We did 3k in the west last summer this way. I was hoping that I could get some suggestion on where to go in in the Southern mountains, we will end our trip with a stay at the Vogel event
  22. So, who's been to the Ford Museum? Greenfield Village? WIfe and I are going to ride up on Friday and come home on Monday, should be plenty of time to see most of each of them, right? What's a absolute don't miss part of this trip?
  23. I'm looking for a speedometer for my 86VR. The odometer and trip meter have stopped working. The speed indicator works just fine. Took the thing apart and the nylon worm gear on the main shaft has stripped. Everything else on the instrument cluster works fine. I have a trip to Glacier Park planned fot the first two weeks of August and would like to know how far I've traveled plus keeping track of the gas so I don't run out. I have never really trusted the gas guage. If anyone has one available I would certainly like to buy it. For what its worth, the 83/85 speedo and tach have a different color face than the 86/93. I'm not sure if I could switch them out or not.
  24. I have about 2000 miles on nankang car tire 2006 rsv midnight. Today I blew the cobbs out and hit rev limiter in 3rd gear, about the time 95-100 mph got the wobble. It felt more like the bike was weaving in the back end. Just finnished a 600 mile round trip to KC for bbq riding 2 up no problems. I will probably stay on the darkside as I don't usually go past 75mph.
  25. Just got back from a bike trip to Branson Mo and Illinois with my lovely wife. We were pulling a trailer with luggage and “essentials.” Trip spanned two weeks. Got lots of “thumbs up” from people in cars…guess there is something about a cycle on the open road! We had to opportunity to attend an informal reunion with some old Air Force friends we were stationed with in Germany, see some of the sights, and do some riding…then on to Illinois to visit my family and some of my high school friends. On the way back we stopped in West Memphis, Arkansas to visit an old AF buddy I hadn’t seen since 1973. Then another stop in Fort Worth to see one more AF friend I hadn’t seen in about five years. All in all it was a great trip! The trip up through Dallas was 104 degrees…with the traffic, it was really nasty! We ran into rain for about 100 miles from Springfield Mo to the east…then it cleared up. Other than that, the weather was not bad. I had busted my butt to get an American flag the day before we left (mine had started to tatter from the previous day’s ride)…borrowed one from one of our members (thanks, Tom)…somewhere in Arkansas it went airborne! Bummer!!! Got sick three days before getting home…made for a couple of extremely long days! Observations: · If you can physically only do about 400 miles a day (we are senior citizens), a motorcycle is not really that economical o What you save in gas, you more than make up for in motels · Sheepskin cover for the seat was TRULY worth the price! · Will likely take the cage on trips of a 1000 miles or more in the future…when you are the only driver…you are the only driver! It’s like the Cubs pitching staff…there ain’t no relief! · That being said…the ride was great! Stats for the trip are as follows: Total miles 2597.8 Gas averaged $3.449gal Avg mpg 36.3 Total gas cost $245.71
