  1. how do i get it? can i print it by state? longgggg trip comin up!
  2. I recently bought a trailer from harbor freight for a trip this summer out west before I pack up for the trip I planning I draggin it around home a lot any advice on max weight, tire psi, suspension psi, safe speed, anything I should watch for as far as harbor freight quality "bearings, balanced tires" etc. Also I haven't tore off the stock lights and put my L.E.D.'s on yet, am I ok to run the standard lights as far as the staters go?

  4. is there one on the web that will let u save & SHARE with other riders?
  5. Greetings All, So the clutch is definitely slipping and a long trip is on the horizon. So it has to be corrected before the trip. So is there a recommended dealership or parts dist that this forum recommends/supports? Is the VMax spring (A: essentially the same spring only stouter? (B: I have a 2007 Venture with 58K miles. What should I expected to pay for the spring? Have done the spring on a Kawasaki 1500, so am familiar with the *basic* process... Thanks in advance. Jim
  6. I did a 750 mile ride this weekend to see what issues might come up in preparation for my 2300 trip to Baton Rouge. Once again, i am reminded how comfortable these bikes are. The ride was Flawless although my mileage isnt where i expect it to be. With 1 remaining bar on the fuel gauge i have only gone about 110 miles. But other than everything is great with the bike. After an oil change and air filter change i will be ready for my 2300 trip to Baton Rouge. I havnt finalized my route but on my return ride, i am considering riding up to Memphis before coming home. One of my stops is going to be Arches monument in Utah. Any ideas on must see sights along that route (Memphis to Utah)?
  7. How many hours did it take you? What was your average speed? If you were planning on an 800 to 1000 miles without a layover any suggestions? I'm considering about 950 mile trip in one day. In Sept of 2010 I rode 2 days from Vacaville CA to Buckely WA. 1st Day was from Vacaville WA to Corvallis Or a total of about 525 miles. 2nd Day from Corvallis Or to Buckley WA Via I-5 to Portland OR then to The Dalles OR to Yakima WA for a total of 385 miles. Now prior to this I had not ridden for 27 years. All I did was take the m/c rider safety course. Flew down to Vacaville and rode about 1 hour. Then took off the next morning for Oregon. Oh I also had a 4 way bypass open heart operation about 4 months ago. Since this trip I've put on about 2500 miles. I'm thinking that I could do this 950 mile trip in one day or 18 hours. Oh I today just go my seat back from Butler Seat modification.
  8. I have a Scooter Schooner tent trailer at my parent's house in Coeur d'Alene, ID that I need brought to Anchorage, Alaska. This would be ideal for somebody planning to camp on the way up and then taking the ferry back down (to Bellingham, WA). My daughter and I used it on our 8100 mile trip last summer but couldn't get it on the ferry for our trip home.
  9. The trip was great, see "whats in the bags" last thread. Clocked near 600 miles with the wife on back and plenty of extras. Lots of short runs and stops, great roads and scenes, and one place we gotta see for a full weekend, Medicine Park, OK- was only there long enough to eat and take a short walk but its worthy of a return trip. My wife was much more comfy than I through the entire trip, at points I could not control my own whining:( The bike performed flawlessly. My hipjoints are pinching hard, Im not liking the heel shifter at all, and even with pegs on the engine gaurd I have few choices to vary position- especially on the left side. I find my right foot far back on the board at times, usually in town. my left is rough because I cant just put my foot down, Im 6'3" and that heel shifter, if I get past it, other hard parts get into my calf- so Im kicking out coming to a stop and kicking up to roll out. Im gonna give some more time for the boards, but Im fairly sure the heel shifter is gonna go bye bye. Ive seen zero options for forward controls on 2nd gen RSVs, if anyone has info here please share. It seems there would have to be mods to intake? whatever all that stuff is below air filters... I love the Venture, but I want to make it MINE! Did I mention my wife loves it too:)
  10. I have a question. All of you with 83 thru 91 first & second gen Venture & Venture Royales, could you please tell me what you'r engine is turning at 70 MPH? As most of you know it took me three years to turn our 89 Venture Royale into a trike, which I finished last spring and we took on a 4000+ mile trip. However I can't remember what RPM the bike used to turn at 70 so I don't know if my gearing is right or wrong. Thanks in advance.
  11. I am wondering if my bikes fuel gauge is operating normally. Someone in another post said with one or two bars left on the fuel ga. they had gone 110 miles. My gauge, with two bars left, only takes about 2.5 gals to fill it back up. Is this normal with these gauges? My trip odometer does not work, however, a round trip to work and back is about 100 miles. When I refill, it usually takes about 2.5 gals.
  12. So, I just put new Pirelli 66's on the bike and three hrs into my trip I get a flat tire out back!!!?@#@%$#@???"""> Had to hang around until Monday for new tire- only had a Dunlop 402/404(? whatever) in stock. I suppose I should be glad no crash happened- 60mph & picked up metal scrap in construction zone. Later
  13. I'd like to covert my Rover trailer into a one man sleeper, for my July road trip. with these pictures, can this be done to the trailer? Please call me, I'll drop the trailer off. 954-309-3983
  14. I just returned from a ride through the Western US. Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas. Clocked 6,200+ miles. I rode with a friend on a 2009 Ultra so I was able to make some good comparisons. The trip was fantastic but there were issues with the bike, some of which have been reported here in the past. Make no mistake though. The Venture is a great bike for a long trip like this and I am very happy with it. Altitude ranged from well over 7000 feet to below sea level. If anyone is interested I will post a performance report (including the good, the bad and the ugly with the bike) and a separate trip report when I can wright them up. Oh and I have pictures. Mike
  15. Sunday night the clocks sprang forward an hour. Here in Atlanta the daffodils, jonquils and tulips have popped up and the Bradford pears are approaching full bloom. The weather guessers are forecasting 80 degrees this week, my floral Hawaiian shirts are finding their way to the front of the closet and my throttle hand has started to quiver. All of which are sure signs that riding season is upon us. With that in mind I am now motivated to complete my annual winter retrofit, maintenance and mod upgrade projects on the bike and look forward with adventure in my heart and planning on my mind for my Spring and Summer road trip schedule to catch up with old and new VR friends. Since I'm getting started a little too late to make Daytona Spring Bike Week :doh:and I don't anticipate having enough accrued vacation and cash flow to do Sturgis again this year. So far this is what I'm thinking as doable It might be about time to resurrect a N. Ga M&E day run and/or maintenance Day. In the next 4 to 6 weeks Myself and my friend Richard (Owner of the 07 Midnight Venture loaner I've been riding for the past two years) have tentatively planned a back roads route trip from Atlanta to St. Mary's/King bay, Coastal Georgia for a three day weekend trip. Free bird's Ohio Maintenance Day for sure this year in early June. The Western NY International Rally if at all possible. Isn't this a off year for Vogel and has anybody mentioned a Asheville M&E. Until then and most any decent weekend in between I'm up for a day trip or weekend overnighter within range. The point being what are y'all planning. Who's game to come with or invite to whatever rides you may be planning within my doable range:thumbsup2:, work schedule:bang head: and available disposable resources.
  16. Will be traveling to Florida Keys with CaptainJoe at the end of March, 3,000 miles roundtrip. Have a '09 RSV Hannigan trike with 7,500 miles on it. Wondering if I need to replace the front tire before trip. The new OEM Bridgestone tire had a thread depth of 9/32". Our front tire now has thread depths of 6/32" center and 4/32" sides. Appears front tire was being run underinflated. Always used Hannigan recommendation, 35 psi front and 28 psi rear. Based on the wear, believe I need to up the front pressure. If I up the front pressure, wonder if original tire will last for my trip? Center is only down 3/32" from the new depth. Hate to throw tire away before its time is up, and weather will be milder when I return from my trip. Ordered a new AM42 rear tire for front and Ride-On balancer/sealant. These should arrive in a few days. Do you feel the tire replacement is necessary before my trip? Thanks!
  17. If anyone is interested, I just got around to placing our 2011 trip photos into one link on my website. We travelled a from Central KY along a northerly route to coasts of Oregon and Northern CA. We went south to Monterey an then east to Yosemite. From there we dropped down to Las Vegas and returned across I40. The photos are posted at: http://www.traynorphoto.com/wc2011 The SPOT track can be viewed at: http://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=2fd74df6c9a6b12d4 The two wives along on the trip flew into Portland, OR and back out of Las Vegas. Dennis
  18. I have never been there. I am planning on maybe a mid to late June weekend trip down. Leave early Friday morning, ride the Tail a few times on Saturday and some of the surrounding scenic roads. Then head back to Michigan early Sunday morning. Any interest in a group thing? If so, I could look for some rooms to book. Let me know your thoughts. Randy

  21. Just to let you all know that Marca's dad passed on to glory very peacefully yesterday at 9pm. He now no longer has any pain, or sorrow, and he is able to walk again for a change. He was 84 and looking forward to the trip. Yes there were tears,,,, but along with that,,,,, lots of JOY. Looking forward to today, we're getting together with the kids and a lot of the grandkids, just to remember and to celebrate, and to plan the next few days. Carl
  22. Hi, A very good friend of mine just moved from Wisconsin to Maine, and I'm planning a solo ride this summer up thru the UP, across the Soo and taking what 17, 417 and what appears to be 40 across Ontario thru Montreal to Augusta, Maine. Looking like a mid-late July trip What kind of roads can I expect? typical summer weather patterns in that area? Pretty long distances with few gas stations on the western side? Need to watch out for Moose? :confused24:Advice or input welcome...Have NEVER ridden in Canada...Have passport etc... but certainly need advice from riders who have been there, done that. Thanks, Clay Menomonie ,WI
  23. In an earlier thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=60093 I expressed concern over power loss and low fuel economy at altitude. (See the trip report on page 2) So today I had my RSV run on a dyno to see if some electrical or mechanical problem might be the culprit. The first chart is 'one run' in fourth gear and 'one run' in fifth. The Second chart is 'two runs' in fourth and 'two runs' in fifth. We ran in fifth because that is where I experienced the most problems on my trip. The bike was flawless on the dyno. The rev limiter on my bike clearly cuts off at different RPM depending on which gear it is in. Fifth at about 5600 and fourth at about 6600 rpm. My guess is this is probably because of the speed rating on the stock tires. Both techs at the dealer reported I could expect about a three percent loss of power for each thousand feet in altitude. Since a lot of my riding on the trip was at 5,6, or 7,000 feet that seems consistent with my experience. Horsepower is on the ground and after gear reductions and drive train loss. So it is less than the engine horsepower in the specs.
  24. Just like the title says IS there a "safe" way to drive a bike through Chicago? I did read this thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50392 I have driven through Chicago in my truck many times, My truck is a full size, extended cab, 8' box with over sized cap, 4x4 Pickup painted bright red. On almost every trip through there, I nearly get hit at least one time by someone that either does not see me or just doesn't care. Now my bike with trailer is a whole lot smaller and a whole lot less intimidating. Heck even a Smart Car will win in an altercation with a bike. While I don't think there is a good time of day to go through Chicago, is there a less bad time? But seeing as I live near Milwaukee Wisconsin, anything that is south or east of me requires either a very long detour around Chicago, or taking the ferry (IF it is running and not broke down) for big . $294 round trip for me, the bike, and the trailer.
  25. Our daughter and granddaughter Ella, are moving the end of this month to Kansas City, Missouri. We found this out right before Christmas. Ella's daddy is getting a big promotion, which of course means more money. This is all good, except the part about not being able to see our Ella. I know I am spoiled. And I also know many of you have grandchildren who do not live right near you. It is just getting used to it, I suppose. It is a new start for our daughter and her family. I need to think positively of course. I am just used to seeing Ella all the time. I usually rush home from work to get to see her. They lived only 20 minutes away. Now it will only be 10 hours away. It is another reason to go for a trip, only more often I suppose. This is good. It is also half way to Sturgis. A free place to stay! See I am trying to cheer myself up. Just sharing with you. I do not know how long they will be there. Maybe they will come back, sooner or later. I just am worried about Ella. She is going to be 4, March 6th. She is not going to understand why MiMi & Papa are not coming over to see her like she is used to. I know she will adjust but that part is very hard to deal with. Thanks for listening. Yama Mama
