  1. Ok, I have been thinking about building my own trailer. I have been trying to come up with something unique but not break the bank. So instead of the car top shell on a trailer, I was thinking of using an old jet ski hull. Some thing like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/98-SEADOO-GSX-LTD-LIMITED-SEA-DOO-SEA-DOO-JETSKI-HULL-BODY-SHELL-ONLY-98-2-/150810965330?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D2910077393800632983%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D150810965330%26 What do you guys think? would it be to heavy? I figure a good strong fiberglass hull would be easy to convert into a trailer shell not to mention it would look pretty cool being towed behind the bike. Thoughts??
  2. just wanting some feed back on the camper thing.I'm looking at the bunkhouse, the time out by openroad and the solace by USA trailer. i don't want price to be the only reason i pick one but it is to be considered. the bunkhouse seems to be built a little better perhaps but only has three levaling jacks which is probably enough. when in the open position the camper bottom itself acts as a storage and part of the bed, and than has a room in front of it on the ground. the other two campers have a double fold out bed which makes the camper bottom a dinning room and than has another room in front and its off the ground. they also have 4 levaling jacks. the bunkhouse has a queen and even a king size bed where the Time out has a full and a queen and i called USA trailer and they said theres is also a queen that the print up was a miss print. the solace doesn't offer any trailer brake where the time out does for 469.00 dollars and the bunkhouse offers it for 1225.00 dollars. the price list that I'm looking at is the bunkhouse at $3695.00 the time out at $3795.00 and the solace at $2675.00. i wont bore you all with the standard features but i know some of our members have the bunkhouse and was wondering if anybody had any feed back on the others. thanks ans sorry for the long post.
  3. I'm going over to meet with my insurance agent on Wednesday to talk about my bike coverage and adding the new trailer to my policy. I have no issue with my current policy, as I have never made any kind of claim on my bikes or cars, but want to be clear on the terms he keeps bringing up in our e-mail exchanges. The term is "cash value" which I understend, if I'm correct is what it would cost to replace the vehicle or trailer at the time of loss based on KBB or other info they use. I know some of the headaches many have gone through concerning the value, based on what the bike/trailer was worth to them, compared to the insurers opinion based on their data. I try to keep a current file of bikes similiar to mine that were sold to document the prices on the current market in case I ever suffer a loss. Along with that prices of the parts and farkels I have added over the years, which adds up. I can't whine about the cost of my bike policy as it's only $269.00 a year for full coverage. I'm considering dropping my deductable to $100.00 and that would only raise me to $290.00 per year for full bike coverage, Deductable of $100.00 per vehicle as the deductable would apply to both the bike and trailer seperatley. At the current deducable the trailer (paid $250.00) would about be a wash. Any advice on how to look at this? Mike
  4. Ran across this and going down to take a look at it. As I'm not a trailer guy (yet) I'm open to opinions on this one. Motorcycle load capacity: 200 lbs. Heavy-duty 4.80 x 8" tires 55-MPH maximum towing speed Extends 78" behind vehicle Leaf spring suspension system Bed dimensions: 41-3/8" L x 34-1/4" W x 3-1/2" H Shell dimensions: 47-1/2" L x 38" W x 16" H Tongue dimensions: 49-3/4" L x 2-1/2" W x 1-7/8" H x 14-gauge thick Universal 1-7/8" ball coupler Overall dimensions: 78" L x 44-1/2" W x 38" H Thanks, Mike
  5. Don't know how I'd feel towing something like this. Was thinking about turning it into a motorcycle trailer, but don't know if it'd be safe. bjmrt-3269559198@sale.craigslist.org http://images.craigslist.org/5N85L15M83M93Fe3Jec9df2847bb5042e1d3b.jpg
  6. I have 3 accessories. 1) Markland Trailer Hitch; 2) Lower Chrome wrap around lights; and 3rd) the Lower Chrome Side bag protector guard. My question is can I mount the Markland Trailer Hitch and the Side Bag Chrome Guard first and the Lower wrap round lights later with out taking off the Markland Trailer Hitch?
  7. We don't have to register our trailers here in Tennessee. I heard someone say last week, that my trailer has to be registered, because some states require it. Is this true? I will be pulling my trailer to Ohio next month for MD, and don't want any issues.
  8. 08 RSV - bought new in 2008. For the first two years, I got > 44 MPG...one-up or two-up...didnt much matter. Bought a Bushtec trailer, and rode up to TN (2-up)...got a steady 38 MPG uphill, downhill...headwind, tailwind. For the next two years, I've gotten 38 MPH, 1-up, 2-up, with trailer, without trailer. Two weeks ago, the fuel pump finally gave up the ghost. Yamaha dealer replaced the pump under warranty. For the last 400 miles, I've averaged 45 MPG...1-up or 2-up. For the life of me...I cant explain what bearing a fuel pump would have on my gas mileage!!! :confused24: Any reasonable explanation(s) would be appreciated...
  9. Buddy has a 2006 RSV with a 4 pin wiring harness, He is wanting to pull my Bushtec trailer that has a 6 pin. Does anyone no of a converter or should I just tell him to order the harness from Bushtec? Anyone with a sugguestion? Thanks
  10. We are beginning to think about a travel trailer. No I'm not giving up the bike and I don't plan to tow it around the country. We're thinking about buying one to keep in Florida near Ft. Myers. Basically I would store it somewhere cheap and then drive down and drag it into a park somewhere for 2 weeks to a couple of months at a time. We've thought about condos and and park model mobile homes but we really don't want the upkeep and responsibilities of owning something like that with fees. So we're considering a trailer. Does anyone know about the R-Vision Trail Sport models? I've found a 27ft unit with 1 slideout that seems reasonable, less than $13k. Is this a decent brand and value. At that price I can try it out and if we don't like the trailer life I haven't lost a great deal. Any thoughts? Thanks, Dennis
  11. Hey everyone, great forum as always. This is a cool place. Tomorrow I'm finally leaving for my 5th Annual Ben Kilik Memorial Ride. I'm going to do 30 of these total. Anyway, it's a killer journey every year spanning at least 2 weeks. I have a link to my friends website that has a rough outline of the route. It would be great to see any and all of you anywhere along the way. http://www.paulstocum.com I write an extensive blog about it which I as yet haven't started. I've been bowled over by the extent of ripping the bike and trailer to pieces to paint, repair, maintain, upgrade etc. Man what a job! So I wanted to publicly thank everybody for their awesome advice. I delinked the brakes. R1 calipers, ditched antidives (thanks Skydoc!), stainless lines, Vmax rotors, EBC rear rotor, HH pads, Dunlop E3's, final dirve off 09' with 10k (gorgeous), windshield, upgraded driving lights (w/parade mode, my personal favorite!) new trailer tires and completely disassembled and painted black. The bike rides great. Hate the progs but maybe they'll mellow. Stops like mother! I swear I could lock up both wheels and send myself hurling. Dunlops totally rock. I'll put a link up to my extensive blog (not nearly as good as Jack Reipe but I can dream!) for anyone that's interested and if anybody wants to tag along it'd be great to see you! We tend to camp 2/3 of the time. Give a text or call. Thanks for all the invaluable advice. I'd be totally screwed otherwise! Cheers, John K
  12. Does any one up in the Calgary Canada area know of a good place to buy a trailer for behind my 06 RSV? or does anyone have one for sale maybe??
  13. I'm looking to buy a trailer. I'm particularly interested in a single wheeled type. Anybody out there pull a single wheel like an N Line, or Uni-Go, or anything like that? Looking for pro and con feedback. Thanks so much, Lynn
  14. Tag along trailer from Harbor Freight... they had it marked down to $399 & I had a coupon for 20% off ,so after tax I got it for $342.37 can't wait to get it together... and yes I have read & will USE the thread on the HF tag along.... IF you are looking for an inexpensive trailer right now HF has the tag along for $399.00
  15. Battery dead this morning! I had been wondering how long she might last!? Been 7yrs and not once did I ever have a problem. When I went for 3 weeks this past month to the Bitterroots of Montana, Canada, Glacier National Park, and back to Tennessee I had thought about installing a new one but I to curious to see just how long the original would go. I usually have my trailer hooked up but I been running led's in those trailer lights since the beginning. I also installed a led rear light after the 1st couple of years! She was a damn good battery Although my morning ride to the Ocoee river did not happen I am glad that she died at home! Batteries Plus has me back on the road again!
  16. I posted a week or two ago that I was having muffler issues with my 87 standard. I was getting significant flow from the drain hole at the inlet of the muffler on the left side. I found a replacement muffler, put it on, and while the tone changed, it still has the "hot rod" sound. As cool as it sounds, it's not the sound I was looking for. This problem started after loading / unloading the bike on a trailer, after I noticed that the bike hit pretty hard on the trailer when the back tire dropped down onto the ramp. I'm now figuring that the topside of the collector has gotta be cracked. I can see no evidence on the underside of a crack, but it's gotta be there. (on the topside) When first looking into this problem, I pulled the mufflers, pulled the front two pipes into the collector, loosened the clamps on the back two pipes to the collector, and planned to remove it for inspection, but it wouldn't budge. After a few tries I looked it over again and thought "there's nothing wrong with the collector" and gave up on removing it. Well, now I know there IS something wrong with it, so it's gotta be removed. Which brings me to my question......What's the trick??? I'm sure it's gotta be bolted on, but with all the crud down there, I saw no bolt heads. If I can get this thing off, I can weld up whatever's broken, but I don't want to chance breaking anything worse than it is by pulling / prying too hard when it's still attached somehow. Any advise on how to remove this sucker will be much appreciated. Thanks.
  17. My wife and I are planning a month long tour in September thru October. We plan on riding into Ottawa Canada to visit my wife long lost relatives. I will be riding my 08 RSV and trailer and a sidecar. Could there be a problem with us crossing into Canada? What documents do I need to take? What about inspections of my bike sidecar and trailer? Rick A.
  18. Just got my trailer hitch from Larry (carbon One), I must say it's a nice piece of work. It's time to finish up on the trailer so i can use it to go to NY.
  19. Has anyone made a rack to carry your bicycle on the top of a tag along or trailer?? Any pictures??
  20. Well its almost done. A few odds and ends and we'll be using it. It started as A Harbor Freight trailer. I narrowed the frame 10". Built the base out of 1/2" plywood and the shell out of 1/4" luan. Wrapped the whole thing in fiberglass and bondo to smooth it out. Used the trunk hinges out of a Ford Taurus. Opened up the reflector between the saddlebags from a 1st Gen Venture, and installed led tail/brake/turn signals for the rear lighting. Along with the trunk hinges I got the electric trunk release, so no keys to get into the trailer. Painted the whole interior white, and plan to install a white led strip for the inside. Also have a remnant of carpeting that need to be cut to fit. Then I'm off to the scales to see how much it weights. I'm guessing around 225 lbs give or take. Then the next decision is a swivel coupler. If I really need it or not. The only trailer I have pulled had one, so I will probably get one. But thats it, in a nutshell. Been an ongoing project for about two years now. Will be glad to finally see how it works.
  21. Hi all; Wondering if any members are close to Imperial Beach/San Diego CA that could run by and check out a 1st Gen ? I have a friend that is interested in one and though I have volunteered to drive over with my trailer to pick it up with him, it would be good if somebody familiar with 1st Gens could just see if it is what the owner/seller claims. So..???
  22. finaly made it home from roosterville (Marion) NC. thanks to 1rooster for selling me the 84 venture my daughter and i left NC sunday late afternoon and with the hickups of trailer tires going flat along the way i finaly made it 500 mi to gulfport with the bike in one piece will post pics soon :cool10: i dont think the venture liked the trailer for as many tires i went thru on the trailer
  23. Seen a used Backpacker trailer for sale on the way home from the International. Looks new and hardley used, has spare tire. Anyone know what they are worth?
  24. Got this from a member (with his permission) off the GL1800Riders board. Thought it was a good "guide" for all to consider when parking your scoot in a parking lot with the trailer hooked up for safety. http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp16/SilvrT/minimumriskparkinga1.jpg
  25. Okay, got the tickets.... where's the trailer we won??
