  1. Can one of you smart folks out there tell what these are? Left rear cylinder has a chromed wire loop and a small curved chrome plate on top. Right rear cylinder has a chromed wire loop on top. I'm baffled! Thanks to anyone who solves my mystery.
  2. My choke cable broke or came loose at the handlebar. I got another cable and I'm about to dive in. Does anyone have any hints that the manual won't tell me? I also noticed a small coolant leak from somewhere near the top of the engine when it is parked. At least now it is warm enough to get in the shop and do it!
  3. It was a beautiful day so I checked my bike out, bathed it, took some pics for the gallery and hit the road. It was a wonderful ride until a heavy crosswind caught me on I-65 and my fake tank top went sailing. I stopped and picked it up and scooted for an exit. Unfourtunately when I pulled off the exit, my short inseam kept me on my tippy toes and it started going down on the right side. :scared: I managed to throw that foot down and after two hernias, stopped the fall and manhandled it back up. How the heck can I lower this thing an inch or two?! I found that the tab on the top had been cracked almost through and the wind finished it. I am going to try some ABS glue. She is still in one piece, no new scratches and I am going to go lay down until all my muscles stop hurting.
  4. Does anyone have a good suggestion (pictures?) on where to mount an auxiliary fuse box? I'm going to clean up my wiring. I have heated grips, driving lights and a Deltran battery charger. I'm thinking of mounting this one on top of my existing stock fuse box. It is almost the same size and thin. I'll only use four of the eight fuse positions though (one for light switch). http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Products/Fuseboxes/PC-8/pc-8.html
  5. A good deal on some DDR-PC 3200 184 pin memory chips? A couple of the 1 gig size should speed up the old desk top for a few more years.
  6. Thought I would start another thread to keep the shortcut at the top. [ame=http://vimeo.com/7860341]Motorcycle Photo Montage on Vimeo[/ame]
  7. My reserve antifreeze tank gets harder to read, darker, as it gets older (could not be my eyes). I imagine we all have the same problem for the first gens, even with the brights of lights my wrench could not reach it. So I took his advice: 3/4'' dowell, 12 & 1/4" long, top mark (high Mark the bottom from the top of the stick, ) nitched at 9 & 1/8th "; for the low mark, 10 & 7/8". I figure that is accurate enough, but might be off a little and better measured on a reserve tank OFF the bike and in natural light. Just thought I'd pass this tidbit along for other lucky 1st gen riders! JackZ
  8. I have lowered the front forks 7/8 inch. Now when I put the fork tree on there is a 7/8 gap from the top of the fork and tree top ? Have I done something wrong or do I just tightened the upper fork bolts and not be able to put air the front shocks ? I have tried to read all the post about front lowering and have not seen this problem ...could someone please put a photo of the tree after it was lowered....thank you everybody. Cb
  9. I've got this set of lightbars that came with my '83 that I'll never have any inclination to use. Most of the lights work, but I think with alittle wiring work, that they'd all work....(I think) There are 3 rails in all, (2 for lower bags, and 1 for top box)...and the chrome is in very good condition. I'd like $150.00 ....that sound fair??? http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/2764/p1000222q.jpg http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/2382/p1000223.jpg
  10. The part that holds the lid up is loose, The top screw you can get to but how do you get to the bottom screw
  11. Thanks to some very generous members here I have been able to post some items up for auction. They can be found in the classified section under St. Jude auctions. You can also access it by clicking on this banner at the top of the page when it appears. Remember all proceeds from these auctions go to the Kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
  12. Hi Everyone: I am really in a quandry. I feel like my 2009 RSV is top heavy and have read threads that say to lower the back end, to not lower the back end, to change tires on the front, etc. There seem to be cons and pros for all options. The dealer said that lowering the back end without lowering the front would make it worse. The dealer also said they don't recommend changing tire sizes. The dealer also told me that they had someone come in who had put on the lowering kit and took it back off within a week. Said it made it very unstable in parking lots, etc and made it more top heavy. I found a kit that is a "leveling kit" at Diamond Accessories" which actually raises the back end. This is supposed to make it more stable and less top heavy. Here is the link http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=Leveling Link Kit Will raising the back instead of lowering make a good difference? Has anyone tried this? Does anyone have any advice for me? I would like to do something to make it better but do not want to do it and the change not have any effect, or even make it worse. Thanks everyone for your help. 13. This is soooo cool. Sit back and enjoy it and then the next time click on the images. Hard to believe this was all in our lifetime. I must be old because I recognize or have heard of most of them. Whether you are a Billy Joel fan or not, you probably remember his great song, 'We Didn't Start the Fire.' Here it is, set to pictures... very, very cool. Had to share this one. It's a neat flashback through the past half century. I never did know all the words. Turn up your volume, sit back, and enjoy a review of 50 years of history in less than 3 minutes! Thanks to Billy Joel and some guy from the University of Chicago with a lot of spare time and Google. Top left gives you full screen....top right lets you pause. Bottom left shows the year. The older you are, the more pictures you will recognize. http://yeli.us/Flash/Fire.html
  14. Has anyone ever see what the top speed of an RSTD is? Just curious. Mark
  15. Am in the market for a top case to mount on my '98 RSTD. I have already modified a batwing to it and am now only missing a top case to finish off the full touring mod's. I have been on Ebay and can find a number of aftermarket units and even a couple that would look ok. But I think it might be better looking if I could find a Venture Top case (first or second gen) to make it look right. If any one has one laying around, even if it's a little dinged up ( I am handy ) let me know. Thanks for looking! Norm
  16. Hello to all. My name is Denny and I have been watching the most impressive forum site I have seen in a long time, congrats to all. I lucked out and bought my first Yamaha 3 months ago, just trying to find something to go riding with one of my kids. Turned out to be this '83 Royale with all the trimmings. Didn't know I was getting the best, strongest, and fastest dresser ever made (apologies to you second gen types). Fortunately bike had no major faults other than a few scratches and knicks and most of the side plastic is held on with cable ties, changed oil, filter, and synced the carbs and it runs like a top. As I said I've been watching the site and feel like I already know a bunch of you. Seems the closest to me is Silver Deer on Camano Island. To the rest of you, Thanks for all the excellent info I've picked up, and thanks for NOT being a bunch of (fill in blank) like some of those HD drivers. Enough for now, but anyone in the area can give me a call and we'll work something out.
  17. So did all RSV's come with the pillow top seats? If not which did just wondering. Thanks
  18. Hey Folks. I have a friend that is looking for a set of pillow top seats for his RSV. He would even take just a driver's seat if there is one out there. Thanks for the help.
  19. It just goes to show that when it comes to motorcycles....there is no generation gap! Here's a pix of the youngest Cody rider and the oldest having a good time talkin' chrome on top of Beartooth Pass! (I'm not even gonna mention the rest of you that tried to teach him your bad habits!!! )
  20. I read that MotorCote does not mix with the oil thus making it a separate entity within the crankcase. My question : does it intermingle, float on top or heavier and go to the bottom ? The reason for the question is I changed oil and as an after thought I added 10 oz. of Motorcote. I noticed that there seemed to be MUCH more noise ( whine) at cruising (55mph or so ) and also somebody posted that an over fill caused excessive whine. So this AM I drained enough fluid out of the bike to bring the level to the top line in the glass. Now I wonder what I drained out and does it make any difference. ooops - 2 questions, sorry !
  21. I know, this has probably been addressed on one or more of these umpteen thousand threads, but I've been reading posts here for the last 7 hours and figured I'd just come out and ask... There is apparently three(?) methods to measure your windshield. #1. The Clearview way (from dip in front of gas cap vertical). #2. From bottom edge of windshield to top edge. #3. from top edge of chrome strip to top edge of windshield(mounted). Now this has become confusing to me when I read all the posts about personal preferences in windshield heights and retailer descriptions of product. What my 08 RSV came with measures 22" (#1. above), 17" (#3. above). I don't have a measurement for #2. above since the shield is still mounted. So,,,, is this a 'stock' windshield? My intention is to procure a shorter windshield to be able to see over the top when needed. In which case the msrmnts would be; 18" (#1. above) or 11" (#3. above). Of course that's solo, when two-up the line of site thru the shield drops about an inch or so. Am considering the Showchrome 13", is that 13" #1,2,or 3 method?? Where does "4 inches shorter than stock" fit in here? It sure would be nice if there was only ([{ 1 )]} standard used. Can ya help a brother out, huh, can ya? ;-)
  22. Guy says his paperwork and registration say this bike is a 2001. Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't this a 1999 color scheme? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-Yamaha-Royal-Venture-1300cc-Nice-touring-bike_W0QQitemZ180403323679QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item2a00e0431f&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 The colors and position of the colors on the tank and trunk (light on bottom, Dark on top) seem to say 1999
  23. Count to a hundred, my rear, that ain't gonna hack it!!! :soapbox: Apparantly the illegal sumb**** didn't weld my down tube on the rear cylinders right 'cause I still get some hot air coming up:headache: tried just removing the downtube and lost the allan wrench on top off the collector and I couldn't get it out :starz:Had to buy another set of allan wrenches to finish that bit, lost that one on top of the collector too, so had to go buy a magnetic pick up, then, guess what: ...can't get the down tubes out so i'm having to take the whole blasted exhaust loose One of the nuts holding the collector on appears to be stripped too far and it won't come loose ....... :bang head::bang head: and you can't reach it with vise grips!!! I'm gonna kill something.............. maybe i need a drink (is it 12 o'clock yet)......
  24. On the way to Birmingham Thursday afternoon (on our way toTexas), we stopped to put on rainsuits because it looked like we might run into rain. Well, by the time we got the rainsuits on, the storm was just about on top of us! We decided to brave it and continue, it is a good thing we did because the rainstorm lasted 3 hours!
  25. My stock windshield was starting to get a bit hazy. It was high enough that if the sunlight or bright headlights hit the shield i couldn't see anything. So I cut the bottom 1.75" off of the screen with a cutoff wheel and redrilled the holes. Now the top of the screen is right at the 2 second following distance when I am sitting comfortably and riding at 65mph. The wind blast is about 1/2 inch above my helmet. At 75mph the windblast is just touching the top of my helmet with no extra noise. For now I like it, I will report back in about 3 weeks. Pictures available Saturday.
