  1. Help, I changed the oil and used a ST7317 filter a little longer. The question is where in the sight glass do you fill it to? The top line or the middle between the two. Heading out to the beach this morning about a 400 mile ride and do no want to run it too low. I am just above the middle between the lines at 3 qts. The book calls for 3.9 with stock filter change. I started it and then let it set for about 4 minutes before I checked it. I put 3.5 qts in and there was not even a air bubble in the window so I sucked some out. Do I fill it to the top line? Thanks for you help. I,ll go check the tire while I wait for a reply.
  2. Hi I am still hunting down my idleing promblem did find that plug wires were bad number 2 is now firing. I removed the tci and checked the plugs looked ok cleaned them up, I saw on a thread about resoildering the unit I look but could not find it, can anyone tell where it is are how you would do it. I took the top off but didnt go any deeper do you have to take the board out and if so how would you get it out, kind of nervise about it But got to learn some day. I want to relocate it to top of air box but the wires dont look long enough.am I not seeing all the wire. thanks for all the help Darrell
  3. A friend of mine is looking for a Venture Pillow top PASSENGER Seat..... Contact me if you have one.....
  4. I owned an '83 Venture Royale from 83 to 90. It was top heavy but manageable with care. I am looking at a 99 and 2000 MM and I understand they are top heavy also. How do the two bikes compare in this important handling situation? Thanks in advance for your replies...
  5. Has anyone vented the filler tube by the gas cap on a 1st gen? It takes a long time to get that sucker full to the top. I've seen the 2nd gen pics but no 1st. 83' VR Brent.
  6. I have been on-line all over and contacted numerous salvage yards with no luck. If someone runs across some pillow top seats, would you please send me a personal message with the info. I'm not too good on following these threads. Thanks in advance for any help I receive from everyone. chuck
  7. I am trying to do the steering head adjustment but I cannot for the life of me get that top nut loose. I've tried channel locks, even clamped on locking pliers and hammered the end, tried putting a pipe on the end .... all no go. That is one tight nut. Any suggestions .... I dont have a wrench big enough for the head, and the darn space is so small. I presume it isnt a reverse thread and its "lefty lucy". Aaaargh!
  8. Does anyone have a wrap around passenger backrest pillow top style? I saw the one for sale by Yamaha and Corbin but it is not the right finish. I would like to purchase one but I can not find the right style for my 05 RSV. Does anyone have any idea where I could buy one? Gaetan
  9. Last couple Items I have had shipped to my residence in Canada are being shipped from a Canadian address in Mississauga. I get a COD charge on top of the crazy shipping charges we normally have to pay on US shipped items. This hasn't been my experience over the last years. This is something new. Most Items I have ordered never have any charges...$10 COD on top of the $20 for shipping on a $64 item...no more! I'm done with that crowd!
  10. Heres a picture of the trailer when I went down and picked it up from Squidly-poo http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v405/Hazenson/100_3544.jpg?t=1273781808 Heres a couple of it so far, want to add some lights and rack on top just sitting there- still debating on that. Any ideas are welcome hehe http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v405/Hazenson/2010/100_3714.jpg?t=1273783435 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v405/Hazenson/2010/th_100_3715.jpg

    Seat

I have a 2000 mm and it looks like the person that had it before me changed the seats out. Does anyone know where I can get a set of the pillow top seats or a website that I cn go to besides corbin that sell the seats that fit the ventures.
  12. All- I'm hoping someone can give me some ideas. I have an 87 Venture and had the Carbs rebuilt. After replacing the fuel filter and checking the gas, we placed the rebuilt carbs in. It started up pretty well, but right away we noticed gas coming through Carb #2 (front left side as your sitting on the bike) and also coming out the top of the carbs in two small orifices. What might be causing this, float perhaps? Also, the four metal air vents at the top of the carbs, do they attach to a hose or something? When I took the carbs off there was nothing attached and there doesn't appear to be anything out of place to re-attach. Appreciate your help. Bill
  13. This thing or I are wanky. I think I read the instructions correctly to calibrate it. I turned all the screws counterclockwise until they stopped and then turn clockwise to even them all out. All looked good until I plugged each hose into each port on the bike. At 1k, #3 rose to the top (prolly some came through). Then a little later all four did the same thing. All the restricters are int he hoses and at the carb boot end. Tell me what I have done wrong here?
  14. This Caveman has Skydoc_17's fuse box upgrade and needs help. I must be pre-caveman cause I missed something in the instructions or just not getting it. I think I have more going on at the top of the fusebox (see attached image) than in the instructions. I might have a noise suppressor and the battery mod plugged into one of the screws at the top. This is where I am stuck and do not know what to do.
  15. Ok Gurus, here's my dilemna; I bought an 86 Venture Royale late last summer. I love the bike, it's what I wanted. I didn't care much for the low speed handling but I new the tires where at the end of their life span and would be replacing them over the winter months along with some regular maintenance like changing the fork oil, regreasing the wheel bearings, regreasing the suspension links including adding grease fittings, adjusting the steering head bearings (they were to tight)and fixing the class system. I believe I did everything that I could based on searching posts on this forum. The bike handles much better but at very slow speeds (like approaching a full stop) the bike gets very unstable or feels tippy? The slightest lean either way to correct seems to overcorrect. Several times I felt like i was going to drop the bike. Is top heavy an issue with these bikes or did I miss something when I went over the bike this winter? I'm at the point where I'm considering selling it before I hurt myself or damage the bike. Thanks, Paul
  16. Does any one have the two paint codes for the 2000 red two-tune venture. I need to know witch red is the top and witch red is the bottom. I'm having a custom fishing rod made in that color. :cool10::cool10:
  17. http://f397.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f40731%5fADFqv9EAAE2DS8n68Q2YFnMcXqs&pid=1.2&fid=Inbox&inline=1 The Ant and the Contact Lens: a true story http://f397.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f40731%5fADFqv9EAAE2DS8n68Q2YFnMcXqs&pid=1.3&fid=Inbox&inline=1 Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens. 'Great', she thought. 'Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry.' She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there. She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens. When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse 'The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth.' She thought, 'Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me.' Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, 'Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?' Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it! http://f397.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f40731%5fADFqv9EAAE2DS8n68Q2YFnMcXqs&pid=1.4&fid=Inbox&inline=1 The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, 'Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You.' I think it would do all of us some good to say, 'God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will.' God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keeps me functioning each and every day Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him... I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)
  18. I picked up a used trunk spoiler and need to paint it to match my '99. Looking at the color rite page though, I am just not at all sure which is the correct color. NONE of them look like the darker gray color of my trunk top. http://www.colorrite.com/matrix-colors.cfm?CFID=2237224&CFTOKEN=91175331

  21. I have a relay for my passing lamps but I can't seem to find the numbers #30,#85,#86 & #87. It is a 4 prong, 12v, 30 amp relay. One pin has the #38 stamped on it and no other pin has numbers. But if you look at the top with the mounting bolt hole tab on top it reads top left #85, top right #87, bottom left #86 and bottom right #30. maybe I don't have the right relay? Is this maybe how it would be hole mounting tab still at top Top pin #85, Bottom pin #86, left pin #87 and right #30?. Thanks for your help
  22. how do you get the sidestand switch top bolt out. got the bottom bolt out and have a new switch to go in, but having trouble with the top bolt removal. i can not even see it.
  23. I need more advise. I decided to tighten the steering head bearing a bit today. I tried to loosen the top nut but could get it to budge. How hard should it be to move this? Do I need to use a cheater to break it free? I dont want to break anything. Thanks JR
  24. Here is a shortcut to check the amount of grease in your steering head bearings. The problem here is that the service interval for re-greasing the steering head bearings is every 16,000 miles, but on the RSV, the amount of work it takes (and therefore, MONEY it takes) to access these bearings is HUGE! And it gets exponentially worse if someone has added a bunch of accessories and new wiring inside the fairing. The entire fairing, both outer shell and inner shell, must be removed before the top triple tree can be removed to access the bearing lock nuts. And to remove the inner fairing, you have to totally disconnect every single wire, plug and component inside the fairing! In fact, this whole process is supposedly required to simply ADJUST the steering head bearings, but thankfully we have documented a quick and easy shortcut to sneak underneath and adjust them without removing a single part. But back to the problem at hand - it is a full day's work to properly strip everything to drop the forks out of the steering head and inspect/de-grease the bearings. But I think I have found a relatively easy way to at least check the top bearing without going through the entire process. After splitting the fairing, the inner fairing can be unbolted by simply removing two nuts behind the top of the headlight and two socket-head bolts, one on either side of the bottom of the headlight. Once these are removed the fairing can be pulled several inches forward without disconnecting any of the wires, enough to fully access the top triple tree. With someone to hold the fairing, you could remove the triple tree and the top bearing without much more effort. Certainly the top bearing can be inspected and greased in this way, and if it looks like the bearings really need to be serviced, you could then just put the inner fairing back on the two studs and proceed to disconnect all the stuff needed to properly remove the forks. It seems possible that with enough care (and probably three people), one might even lower the forks enough in the steering head to access and grease the lower bearing this way. I think I am ready to try and make a video of this process if I can find a couple of folks willing to spend a day helping me through it. Goose
  25. The answer was provided by Bill Adbou and posted as a performance tweak, I have included his tweak for your review: Air Filter Buckling The air filters have a hard plastic base and top with the filter element in the middle. Where the filter attaches to the black base housing, it is forced down and allowed to buckle, causing the element to seperate from the base. I am sure yours is the same way. I got new ones from my dealer, no questions asked, andinstalled them with a 2 inch piece of 5/8" heater hose at the top which keeps downward pressure on the filter once the top housing is in place. It takes a little force to assemble it, but once it's together it will stay. Note: use of a horse shoe piece of foam cut to 5/8" thickness, with the open pointing forward, so as to not interfere with the air flow from the air box opening. Thanks for everyones input, as my newly acquired 1988 Venture had this modification.
