  1. Coolant drain on the front of my '86 VR is dripping. To replace that o-ring you remove the little set screw in the side and then does that plastic plug unscrew or wiggle out of there. That fitting and the little hose on top were plugged up with a reddish brown clay when I flushed the system, now that I cleaned everything out it started leaking. Thanks
  2. Ok, I finally got around to replacing my original wind screen on my '84 with a new one from Cee Bailey. Got one 2" shorter than stock for a better line of sight over the screen. I've been using Plexus all the time to fight the swirls in the old one but after riding several of my friends bikes I really liked NOT seeing anything in front of me. I like clear. Now I have clear. Ok, so what I'm up to is this. I'm cutting the old screen down, a lot, to be not much more that 6" to 8" higher than the top of the fairing. Real short for those really hot days on summer. Get a lil wind in the face kind of thing. I want to try to apply the window tint film on the inside. I've done several cars and vans with the kits so I'm pretty handy with the stuff. And cutting it that short I get rid of the compound curve so that should make it pretty easy. The question is......anybody know if there might be any weird reaction with the screen and the adhesive on the film? I've read the posts on the spray tints but want to try the film to make sure I keep an even appearance. My only concern with the film is keeping the edges bonded to the surface but that can be covered with some flexible trim along the top edge. Thanks for any imput. Mike
  3. I am looking for the name of the grommet that holds the top lid down in the front. I call the top lid the lid that you have to remove to service the air filter, (not the air filter box lid), it is held in the back by the one phillips screw and washers. My front lid is wanting to come up as I am driving, and I think there is supposed to be a grommet that it presses into in the front, or under all the wiring. Does anyone have one for sale or send me in the right direction with a part number, or that has come up with another method to hold the top lid down? Forgive me if I am calling the top lid by the wrong name, I tried searching using a lot of different phrases and came up empty. It is an 89 Venture. This is the one I am going to fix the fuse panel on this winter. Thanks, Don
  4. To those who have had both the corbin dual tourer seat and the Yamaha pillow top seats....how they compare? I realize seat choice is all kind of/sort of a personal preference.....just wondering how many pillow top users have switched to the corbin and really prefer it that way? gunk:smile5:
  5. I opened a E-Card this morning and then started getting this small window pop up, looked like a windows app. that said I nneded to up date and that I was out of drive space..it showed up as HDDLow and created an Icon on my desk top..I could not close it, it changed my desk top to all black except for what it wanted me to click. I ran a full Mcafee scan and it found and removed it, but I still did a system restore, hope its gone. I do not use this lap top for anything other then this site, email, PGR stuff, so if I end up having to wipe it clean and start over I will not be out anything. Has any one heard of this one?? I would sure like to catch these ^%$# that have nothing else to do but screw up things..Just be carefull opening up e-cards or anything that you are not 100% sure of. Kreg
  6. OK its winter!!! Once in a while the Warden gets busy and don't want to do my eggs, taters, biscuits, saugage & gravy. So I take a look in the fridge to see what has been left there. This morning there was some leftover O'Brian potato Hamburger Helper. Fried a couple eggs tossed them on top along with a hot pepper and I'll have to remember that one.... GOOOD!! Now gotta move that fire extinguisher back to the bathroom!!! Whats your favorite leftover???
  7. After reading through some posts on the problems with the plastic thermostat top , here is my solution. I cut a support washer from a piece of 1/8 plate to fit around the housing. My old top was warped like most of them are and not mating flush with the base. After the washer was put on it is flush all the way around. I feel better about this now. Since I have the motor out its a good time to fix things like that.
  8. Know this has been here but was just looking again. Someone from Griffin Georgia has a ton of 1st Gen parts listed. Look OK but he didn't get a nibble. Check his shipping costs. About twice what the parts are worth on top end. I would have bid on a couple of those. But I'm probally wrong. I'll just go back to my corner.
  9. i talked with my 24 year old son , this evening, and he was elated. yesterday, his gross sales for ONE day, was $42,000.00!highest sales in Houston region, EVER for one day. later today, his manager told him, he was top salesman/expert tech. for the entire Texas region, which includes La.ARK.GA.Ala.and Fl. to top that off, he was informed , today, that he had Top Salesman of the Quarter sewn up again.that will be 13 quarters in a row! oh. he has been with Apple computers, in The Woodlands, TX for just over 3 1/2 years. i know the "good book", says NOT to be "puffed up with pride", but how could i NOT be proud of this kid? just jt
  10. Sometimes you just across a pic that seems to say it all.
  11. 1988 Venture Royale. Ordered three sets of brake pads for the Venture, from an eBay dealer. Used "Buy-it-Now" and the price was good. Shipping was prompt. These were "no-name" pads, intended for the 86-93 Ventures. When I opened the package, I noticed these generic pads are labeled "FA160". I checked out the application chart for FA160 pads, and it shows that they fit other Yamaha models, mostly sport bikes. I know the Venture takes FA123 pads all around. The FA160's are similar to the FA123's, except for the top. The holes line up with each other, they have the same width -- only difference that I could tell is the squared-out top ends. Has anyone ever used FA160 pads on his Venture? If so, any problems? I would try to install them and see, but my VR is at the independent shop getting its annual checking over. I want to know if I should arrange to return these pads, or keep them and use them. Any ideas? Nick Diaz Middletown, MD
  12. My new Clearview windshield (Medium Light Grey with vent) arrived on Monday. I installed the shield on Tuesday morning in less than 20 minutes... very straightforward and easy, even for one who is mechanically challenged. The grey shield on my grey 2008 Venture looks great. I went for a ride, and had no complaints from my passenger. There was no noticeable increase in wind buffeting even at speeds over 100 kph. I noticed a little more wind, which is what I wanted. At 5 ft 11 inches, I am still looking through the top few inches of the shield, however. I was hoping to be able to see over the top. I may shorten the shield by four inches or so. The Clearview shield is much more solid than the stock shield. The shield I purchased was advertised as having “very slight scratches”. I will have to take a very much closer look, as I have not spotted them yet!
  13. when replacing the air filters, does any one just remove the top cowling screw and slightly bend the top of cowling to gain access to the screws and bolts to get to filters?? read online this is one way to do it ? seems like K&N is to way to go for filters?!
  14. I have recently realized that most folks don't know what side their biscuit is buttered on. To prove my point I'm launching this enquirery. What side is your biscuit buttered on and why. Do you butter your biscuit on the top, the bottom of the top, the top of the bottom or the bottom and why? Enquiring minds want to know.
  15. Over the years, I've seen posts from several people who have claimed that the top speed on their RSV is about 90 MPH. I've never understood that and am now wondering how many here have bikes that top out around that speed. What got me thinking about this was that over the past months my bike was not running well. A couple of weeks ago, I opened it up and found that 90 MPH was all it would do. Now I had had mine to close to 120 MPH in the past so obviously something was wrong. Unfortunately, I got frustrated and took somewhat of a "shotgun" approach to the problem and so don't know just exactly what corrected my problem. I changed plugs but had done that before so I know it wasn't the problem. I also changed my number 3 coil which I think was breaking down under load. I pulled the carbs and reset the floats. One was a bit high. I also suspect that the air box was not seated good on top of at least one of the carbs. The bottom line is that when I was done, I took it out again and it runs like I knew it should. Acceleration is very strong and I took it up to about 112 and it was still climbing pretty good. I have the Speedohealer so that is true speed. I was later talking to my friend Bob Dakin and he told me that his Midnight Venture has never run faster than about 90 since the day that he bought it. I am convinced that there is a problem with his and he is going to come over one day soon so that we can figure it out. How many of YOU have the same problem? If your bike tops out under 100 MPH, I am sure that there is a problem and I don't think it would be that difficult to figure it out.
  16. Well inspired by Sylvester I decided to get some pillow top seats for my MM. I just went to the auto parts store and picked up some can spray paint that was close in color to the stock MM seats. The color is a little lighter but not much. If I had it to do over again I would take Sylvester's advise and have the color I want made up at a auto paint supplier and I would use a spray gun. It would probably be cheaper. The stuff I used was made to cover plastic and auto seat vinyls. It coats it well but you need to make sure that the vinyl is clean. I don't know how well this stuff will work over time but for now it seems to stick pretty well and is very pliable. I like the pillow top seat very well and this is an effort to put them on my MM. If this doesn't hold up well then I'll bite the bullet and find a reputable upholstery shop around here and have them recovered. Anyway here are a few pic's of my MM.
  17. a pillow top passenger seat for a RSV must be in excellant condition blk. Anyone have one PM me. Thanks star4772
  18. Good Afternoon All, How much play should the top rear shock bolt have in it? I decided to inspect the swing-arm assembly before I start to put her back together, and discovered play when I raise the swing-arm up and down. Is there a bushing in there that can be worn out already, or is this normal. I would guess it is probably somewhere between 1/32nd and 1/16th of an inch, and appears to be concentrated on the top rear shock connection. Have any of you experienced this?
  19. I just returned from a 2000 mi trip on my trusty 1989 Venture. I was close to Canada so the mornings were chilly! Each morning when I would get to the bike there would be a spot, about the size of a small plate, of antifreeze under the right side of the motorcyle. I would top off the expansion tank and about 5 minutes later the leaking stopped and would not appear until the next morning. Now I am back in the Midwest and it has not leaked a drop since I returned. Any ideas?
  20. I have a Reese Backpacker trailer and the original prop for the top was missing when I bought it I am trying to find some sort of prop for the top. I can only put it on the front so it has to be sturdy I thought about the gas filled ones like on my truck top but it is not strong enough for just one, anyone have an idea I have called all the trailer stores around me and no one has anything. I will make a prop out of wood but I would rather have something built in. Tom
  21. It's time for an update on my Beast: Bodywork progress is slow. Between the 100 degree daytime temperatures :scorched:and the lack of success getting factory pin-striping off, not much forward movement has occurred in the past couple of weeks. Anyone have a sure-fire way to get these stinking decals/pinstripes off , please let me know. I have peeled off the top layer using a pro heat gun. The problem is the adhesive left behind. It gums up sandpaper, gasoline will not budge the stuff, and a grinder takes off too much material. I decided to make changes that will make the bike look more post 2000 and not look like 1985. I am removing or modifying a lot stuff. At this time my color choice is gun-metal gray. I had already removed the front fender bumper and mud-flap. I like a "smoother" look and next removed rear fender mud flap. Then I bobbed the rear fender. The picture below shows how the rear of the bike is developing. You can also see how I am painting the aluminum seals around the saddlebags. I have also removed the bumper and reflector off of the top box and filled 17 holes with fiberglass! Thanks for looking in on my Beast. More to come . . .
  22. I know this isn't bike related but you're a large family to throw the question out to. My wife and I are looking at a top of the line Whirlpool Duet front load washer/dryer set. The price is right. I've looked at online review sites and see a mixed bag of opinions. I see the same from other manufacturers reviews. So, I'm looking for input from real people with first hand knowledge. I can get the top of the line set for about $1300 which is about $800 less than Lowes price. Should I look elsewhere? Does Whirlpool make a decent set? Thanks, Dennis

  24. Riders come from far away to ride the roads of Northwest Connecticut. Routes 4, 7, 63, 44 and a whole bunch in between are lined with forest, rivers, gardens and quaint houses. And right over the state line to New York is Route 22, another great ride. http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/u264/gibletdyckout/th_NWCTmap.jpg Here is the view from the top of Mohawk Mountain just down the road: http://www.ct.gov/dep/lib/dep/stateparks/forests/mohawk2.jpg And for you geezers it's helmets optional here. Come on over and check it out!
  25. G'day All I'm replacing the oil in the front forks of my '83 VR after fitting new seals on the anti-dives. I have progressives. What oil level do I use ? 5 inches from the top or 5 and a half inches ? Jim O'D...........
