  1. NOTE: This first post in the thread has been changed by me for reasons explained below. If you have already read it, read it again - it is very different now. Positive review of the MT66 tires. First, just a little background for those who don't already know about me - I am a complete fan of Avon Venom tyres for the RSV. I have done a LOT of testing various tires, new and worn, and shorter suspension links to raise the rear of the bike; you can find a lot of this info if you search for some of my oldest posts. Now even though I love the Venom tyres, I just can't resist testing other options, especially when there is a cheaper price involved! I put a brand new set of Pirelli MT 66 ROUTE tires on QuickSilver (my 05 RSV) last summer, then proceeded to crash the bike on my way out of town that night when the slick new tires broke loose in a surprise curve! Busted me up enough that I couldn't ride for about four months, and didn't do much good for QuickSilver either. Well, she's back on the road again, and I've already learned a few things about these tires. I think I like them. The load range on the rear tire is less than with an Avon Venom - only 74H. That is the same as the stock tires, so no problem there, but I would prefer to have the higher load rating as a margin of safety. When I first mounted them last summer, I didn't notice anything specific about them - they seemed to handle fine for the one short test ride, and then for the thirty miles or so before I went down. But most of that was on the freeway, so not much of a handling test. At this point, let me note that I had Leveling Links on the 05 then to raise the rear of the bike, and as I have previously written in great detail, raising the rear greatly improves the slow speed handling, making even the horrible stock Brickstone tires feel reasonable. Well, after the crash, I bought an 07 RSV and switched the leveling links to it while the 05 just sat and waited for me to fix it up. I finally got most of the repairs done and have started riding QuickSilver again (so far WITHOUT the leveling links), and I am happy to report that these Pirelli tires make the bike with stock suspension feel light and agile. Slow speed handling my be as good as the Avons, but I still have more testing to do. I cannot yet report on speed handling on the curvy roads. I have compared the width and profile (shape of the curved surface) with my brother's Dunlop 404s, and the front tire is almost identical. MUCH narrower and more curved than a Brickstone in the same stock size of 150/80-16. I'll report on the comparison with the Avon Venom soon. I'll also be covering a couple of thousand miles on them in the next week or so, so I'll be able to give y'all a full report on them soon. In the mean time, the prices look good compared to the Avon Venoms, and they seem seem pretty good, so if you have to order tires before I can complete the testing, you might want to consider the Pirellis if you are tight on money.. 2. Ok guys, if you need a new rear tire, or are going to need a new tire in the near future you better get it ordered. As I have stated many times before, I always check with Motorcyclesuperstore first when thinking about ordering something. Well, today I got an email about a sale they were having on tires so I thought well maybe I'd get a better deal than the last(which was pretty good 130.99, I thought) which was an E3 rear for Biggal. To my surprise the sale price was 141.99!!! I thought this had to be a mistake so I called them up and they confirmed that price. When asked if I wanted to order I said no. Hung up the phone and checked Jake Wilson and they have the same tire for 130.99. So I guess the oil prices are beginning to affect everything else. Like I said, if you need or gonna need a new tire soon Jake Wilson has the best deal right now. They may even be higher in a few days!!!!!
  3. Has anyone used these type of PSI indicator caps on their tires? http://www.bikemaster.com/bmstrv2.nsf/Products/EE6E9572ED4BD60D86257713005D53AD?opendocument
  4. I recently posted another thread describing my 4424 mile ride to Michigan, towing my Harbor Freight trailer. Towing the trailer was largely a non-event. It felt very smooth behind me, and didn't impact me but for a couple hard stops where I felt the mass pushing me. The hubs always felt cool to the touch. I did have several issues that I would like resolved before my next trip in September. The first is a vibration. The contents of the trailer wore very fast. I had the shell of my wife's helmet wear off, exposing the inside. (I will replace it now) Our air mattress wore a hole; I guess it touched the very long bolts inside the trailer. (I need to cut them off, since they are probably jutting out a good half inch.) Drysacks look thin and worn. Pots and pans have shiny places, etc. The locks vibrated apart--twice! I had to replace them on the road. What causes vibration like that? Second, the tires were bald and showing cord by 2000 miles. (see photo) I had to replace them in the rain in Marquette. The Wal*Mart people wouldn't touch the trailer, but they did lend me tools to do the job efficiently. I was back on the road inside 45 minutes. Now, my new tires look almost the same. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4142/4828385750_ce7696deed.jpg The guy at the Wal*Mart tried balancing the tires. They zeroed out despite the small size, but used 2.5oz on one tire, and 2.25oz on the other! I thought the out-of-balance caused the vibration, but that I still got vibration on the remainder of the ride. (Things inside got even more worn.) What causes this wear pattern? I was under inflated leaving home, and the guys at Wal*Mart made sure they were at manufacturer specs before they gave me the tires. Still, they are worn and I need new tires. I did pull at 70mph almost all the time. The last issue I blame on the Oklahoma construction. My license plate was almost literally torn off the trailer. The left corner was gone, including the bolt, and the right side was cracked and about to come off. I hit a "bump" at a bridge on a resurfacing project, and I think perhaps the trailer was severely tossed. Oh, and with the Wal*Mart inflation, the trailer bounced a lot. Any ideas? Should tires need replacing every 2000 miles?? Dave
  5. I just aquired a 2001 Road Star. 4800 miles, new tires and battery. What do y'all think?
  6. OK so I have these two tires. They are 1,000 mile take offs in perfect condition from my bike. Now I know that the factory dunlops are not the first pick of the litter. BUT if their is a member down on their luck, and needing tires please let me know. I dont want someone who needs tires but cannot afford them to do without, or ride an unsafe bike. Look I know times are hard for lots of folks. Do not be so proud that you ride on bald tires or not ride, or be to proud to speak up. F- Dunlop 150/80-16 D404F R- Dunlop 150/90-B15 D404
  7. You guys are going to love this, literally drives the tires off it. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=4TshFWSsrn8&vq=medium
  8. Any Colorado Springs Riders out there know where the best (and least expensive) place is to get my new tires mounted for my '06 RSV? Thanks!
  9. 2/3/2011 7 - Poll on current Darksiders 2 - Poll on people that tried but Didn't like darkside. Please... If you want to "participate" in these polls, go to the aforementioned links. However, Comments can be made here and are welcomed. I am just trying to get an idea of user satisfaction for running car tires. Will try to update daily for about a week or so that anyone that wants to can add their input. Thanks joe Disclaimer: I am in no way condoning the use of car tires on a motorcycle... Use your own judgement...
  10. I thought this year I would save some $ and purchase a tire on line only to find out the local yamaha dealer won't mount it. The shop foreman said they weren't allowed to (chain of something to do with tires). Is this bs or is there some truth in this?
  11. Just ordered 2 new tires and 2 new helmets from Motorcycle Superstore. Almost the last thing we "needed" before our 2700 mile ride trip this summer. Got the Dunlop Elite 3 for front and rear...and the HJC IS-33 helmets in Wine to match (as close as we could) the Black Cherry '06 RSV. $495 for the total order ($130 ea/Helmet and $102 front/$130 rear). Not sure if it's a good price but I couldn't really find much better anywhere...free shipping and no tax though...so that helps.
  12. I like a nice shiny bike and i love the look of the amourall type of protectants on the tires to make them all nice and black and shiny, BUT I wont use it on the bike because I dont want to find out that the silicone has gotten onto the tire's tread by sliding out in a corner. I have found this new stuff that made in the US that claims they are motorcycle safe and are silicone free. Has anyone tried it? I was going to order some and try it out. http://www.renewprotect.com/main.html A you tube video on it too [ame=http://www.youtube.com/user/renewprotectvideo#p/u/6/hGmCdlGxBKc]YouTube - renewprotectvideo's Channel[/ame] Brian

  14. something like that? got a call from dianne way up north. she said she saw a honda pacific? 800cc strange looking but kind of a touring bike. any one know any history about these? reason im asking is a friend of hers is interested and wants to know if its worth $3600.00 sorry no pics but its red has 32 k on it. new tires battery and regular maintenance done this summer. she said it has trunk space but not enough for helmets? she thought there was a radio on the bike? was this a new kind of smaller type goldwing prototype/ kind of like the silverwing? thanks oldgoat.
  15. I found some past articles in the various forums about these tiny beads inside the tire to smooth out the balancing, however they are a couple of year old information.. Has anyone been running with these beads in their tires repeatedly now for a few years who could let us know how's it been working out? Worth the while, make any difference? Cheers
  16. I want to replace my tires with white walls on my Venture any recommendations?
  17. Not taking no chances after that winter we had last year. With MaMamo's new job in Sumersville thats snow country anyway.I got 4 new HanKook I Pike winter tires coming for her Colorado 4x4. I bought a new set of driving lights for it to. Now if I could just find one of those Cow catcher Oil field bumpers for deer control.
  18. Those who know me know that I complain when I recieve bad customer service. I get the chance to praise a company this time. I have been dealing with Competition Accessories for over 10 years now. I found them when I was looking for a new rear master for my 83 1st gen. (yes, I owned one then) They had one in stock for a reasonable price. While they no longer offer OEM parts I have used them numerous times for various items like apparel and tires and other accessories. Each and every time I have recieved great customer and FAST service. Tires usually arrived within 2 days. Last week they had a great deal on closeout helmets and I ordered 2. One came with some minor damage. Called and spoke to Ernie and he checked and found only 2 of the same helmet left. After confirming that it was in good shape he promised to set it by his desk and when the damaged helmet came in he would immediately ship the replacement out. They sent me a return label and I shipped it out on Monday. They recieved it today and Ernie called to say they had it and would have the replacement out today. Now thats a follow-up!! Point im making is I have never ever had anything other then a pleasant experience with them. They even spent time with my wife on the phone when she was buying me my Tourmaster jacket one Christmas, guiding her every step of the way with patience. And no, this isnt a feel good, group hugging, Kumbaya singing session in the making.....just an honest evaluation of a company I have dealt with over the years.
  19. I have MT 90 B 16 wide white walls Avon Venoms on my 2000 MM Venture. Need to get new tires. I know that some guys use the more narrow tires than the spec. My previous bike was a Gen 1 with Metzler 880s. I thought that thing handled great. I love the look of this bike but it has never felt like it handled as well. What is the performance difference between the more narrow tire vs the stock tire? I have heard many people saying great things about these Venoms. My tire shop said they dont make the rear any more. Is that accurate? Thanks, Bob

    Front tire noise

Hello everyone I'm new to this site and I like it , very informative. I bought an 09 RSV in January and have loged about 16000 kms. since then, love the bike. The only thing so far that kind of anoys me , is the whine from the front tire. It does not matter wether i'm leaning left or right that loud whine comes up through the forks and it drives me nuts. I'll be changing tires in the spring .Any recomendations on quiet front tires? Thanks Gus...
  21. i've searched for feedback concerning tires for my second gen. currentley i have metzler front and back with the smaller front than factory. i usally ride two up with 36 in front and 41 in rear however after a 612 mile run to the beach and back the rear tire is cupped very bad and needs to be replaced all though it has pleanty of tread left. maybe i need to run more preasure i dont know,i use a digtal gauge which i think is accurate. any thoughts i'm wide open, thanks:bluesbrother:
  22. Ok Folks... I just bought a time out Dart recently... and I'm wondering where to set the tire pressure... The guy I bought it from said to keep it about 10 - 15 psi, But, the max load on the tire says 90 psi. I realize that I'm not gonna be pushing the "Max Load" of the tire, but thought 10 - 15 sounded awfully low. The tires are "Carlisle USA Trail" tires 4.80-12. Thanks
  23. I just got a quote on new front and rear Dunlop E3 tires for my 84 standard from my local stealer $610...thats the final after tax and install price. (on the bike) OUCH!!!! I was told if I buy tires and bring them in it would be $65 for the rear and $45 for the front for install I know we pay thru the nose for stuff up here in Canada...but thats a long way from US prices I've heard about on this site. Anybody know where I can do better?
  24. Well as some of you already know I changed out my tires Wednesday with the help of Ponch. I purchased Dunlop 404 WWW for the bike. No problems making the swap and giving the full grease job to the splines etc. Wow what a change these tires make. I ordered the 130's for the front and what a different ride this is now. I could already handle full lock turns and all the slow speed handling from a lot of practice but I have to admit that now it is considerably easier. The members who say the front end feels lighter aren't kidding. The ride is superb now with the new narrower tire. Significantly better ride at any speed. I no longer have to push the bike to get it to make a turn and the handlebars feel so light now compared to before. I took off this morning and went and rode the local twistys to see how they handled there and it was totally effortless to make the curves compared to before. If you haven't tried a bike with the narrower tire you need to try it. Again I would like to thank Ponch for his personal assistance and this site for all the information that is shared here which has allowed me to personally make changes to the bike and keep it running. Now for the before and after pictures. Have a great fathers day all you fathers. Jim
  25. So i went to the darkside yesterday morning...the dealer set me up at 36 psi rear on my kuhmo and 36 psi on the front (avon cobra)...i adjusted it down to 33 psi this morning and have put 500 miles on the tires already with absolutely ZERO negative experience...in fact, she handles better than before!!!! BUT...ive been anticipating this dreaded wobble i hear others talk about... Then tonight, on my way home from a "bike night" it happened... I had my 7 y/o on the back and at about 45 mph just going through town I felt the whole rear of the bike start dancing all over the place...i was freaked out and upset and disappointed and worried...that was until i looked in my mirror and saw my little one rocking out to the katy perry song on the ipod! She was having just the best ole time back there! PPPHHHEEEWWW!!!!! it wasnt the tires that were causing the wobble!!! It was HER!!! BTW...The cookies were better today than they were yesterday!!!
