  1. after too many years Renate finally came off the road for medical reasons. Was pretty lonely at home by herself so a week ago we went to the humane society and adopted a hound cross as a companion. 11 months old and smart and stubborn at the same time, quite a handful. they bonded within 2 days and now he wont leave her side. Just got to figure out where to put a 50 pound dog with the wife on a bike. hey gary, any restictions on pups at pork in the pines? al
  2. After 19 years of rideing my 89, finally decided its time to get a new bike . Not getting any younger, so decided, to get one now and most likly will last me till its time to " Hang it Up " as they say !! ( Whoever they are ? ) Anyway, as of yesterday I'm the proud new owner of a " New" 08 RSTD " ( Blue/Black ) . Purchased at Enumclaw, Wa. Yamaha. What to do with the 89 ?? Hmmmm ?? not sure, the Darn thing is still " running like a Swiss Watch " !!! OK, down to business, Modifications !!!! ???? --- Will be setting it up for " Solo " traveling. I'm removeing the Passenger seat, and will need a Solo, Luggage Fender Rack. Started searching last night, but not much luck ???? Anybody know who carries a Fender, Solo, Rack for the RSTD ??? I'm all ears !! And one more thing !!! Its still Cold, and Raining in Seattle this week !!!!! Also: Whats the source for that Niffty little Hand Pump, for Airing up the Shocks ??? Can't locate that information. I remember a few years ago, sombody mentioning the " Preferred " hand pump to carry on the bike And just to " Stir the Pot " After, about 30 miles on the new bike, I " Love the Handling " Very different world from rideing the 1st Gen !!! Not better, Not worse, Just different !!!!
  3. I thought it was going to be Xmas today, as I was expecting a couple of packages from vendors, and indeed the packages did show up. Yeah for UPS ! Package # 1 contained my new Flanders bars, and my new upgraded high output stator, all from Rick at Buckeye Performance. I am planning on installing the upgraded stator sometime in August, because I have rides between now and then, and that way I have it on before I go on the Three Flags Classic. So today I went about installing the new Flanders bars, part # 650-08783. All went as expected, no issues, and while I did maintain the positioning of wires and hoses on the clutch side, as they were originally...I did reroute all the wires and hoses on the throttle side to be behind the triple tree. I also installed new Kury Iso-grips, in all black...without the weighted bar ends. I am happy with the installation, and in a short time I will get used to the newer longer bars, and the position they now put me in. I (believe) it will be a good thing, as I knew the OEM bars were too far forward. Package # 2 contained my new Ultimate seat for my '06 RSMTD. (drum roll please) Now folks, I have been around a long time, and as the name states...I have over a million miles on my butt. I knew when I took this seat out of the box that this was going to be a problem. I have owned over 25 motorcycles during the past 42 years of riding, and have had 9 saddles made by Russell Day-Long saddles. I am well known for being able to ride over 2,000 miles in 24 hours, so...I knew when I saw this seat that someone on the planet just surpassed Mike Corbin for making the worlds worst motorcycle seat. I went ahead and mounted the new seat on my bike. Sat on it...cursed a few times...got back off the bike...looked it all over...took several measurements...sat back on the seat again...cursed several more times...and decided to be a glutin for punishment and take the bike for a ride. After 100 miles, which was a waste of time, I knew I had to send this new seat back. The Ultimate seat website states that their seats are the same dimensions as the OEM seat, and positions the rider in the same place. That is not true. The "pocket" on this Ultimate seat is exactly 2" forward compared to the OEM seat. I felt like I was riding up on the tank. The quasi-back rest/butt rest at the back end of the seat is very much exaggerated in a forward position. I was hoping to TRY this seat on my ride next week to northern Calif., and if the seat worked, then I could cancel my appointment at Russell to have them build seat # 10 for me. I truly and honestly wanted this seat to work...because it would have saved me $ 300.00 off the cost of the Russell seat, when I include tarvel, motel, etc. Now, I know...there are different seats for different butts. And if you have an Ultimate seat...and you like it, that is great. I am happy for you. And if you have a Corbin seat, and also like it, I am happy for you too. But for me, the Ultimate seat now has the title of the worst seat in the world, followed closely by Corbin. There is a reason that 80 % of the bikes at the start of an IronButt Rally have a Russell saddle on them. I know that Terry and the folks at Russell can build a seat for me...in person...that will allow me to be comfortable riding 1500 mile days. I hate to spend the extra bucks, but in this case, you truly do get what you pay for. That new Ultimate seat that showed up at noon today, will be shipped out tomorrow morning...back to Florida.

    guilty

News in today's Time Colonist paper. A woman pled guilty to impaired driving causing death. She went over the centerline and hit a motorcyclist head on just outside Victoria B.C. She was apparently high on booze and crack cocaine at the time. The motorcyclist had recently moved out here from Ontario and his family was still back there. Two rows of the public gallery in the courthouse were filled with bikers showing support for the family.
  5. I remember reading a long time ago on a forum that a good way to keep the brake and clutch fluid fresh is to use a turkey baster and suck out the fluid in the reservoirs every time you change oil. Just be certain you don't pull on the levers. Did I dream that or would that work on our Royal Stars? Just wondering......
  6. Took a s,mall ride this evening and had a wonderful time. I only rode for about 45 min, but it is nice to get back in the saddle and not have to worry about what time you have to be somewhere. I haven't owned a bike for 15 years. I had forgotten how nice it is to just cruise. BTW, Happy Father's day to all you dads out there! Hope you got some ride time in.
  7. After 2 years I found the saddlebags guard bars for the RS 97, and i got them. (Yes I paid at least 100$ over the price since it is not on the market anymore...). I finished to put it, and I didn't realize that one of the upper plates is not on the same positition regarding the saddlebag than the other one. After I runned the bike yesterday, it seems that my rear shock is not longer working now. Did somebody had been on the same situation any time? I'll correct that now, but I wonder if due to the lateral force the shock is not on perfect line and that is enough to stop working. Or when I put the lower plates, and release each one of the two bolts that holds the frame on each lower side (One at the time) that some way released the shock and now is totally loose, and this is the real reason for the shock not working anymore since it is loose. Thanks for any advise on this.:sick::sick:
  8. Eileen and I got home about 9:30 last night from a week on a houseboat on Lake Cumberlan in Kentucky. Could have easily enjoyed another week there doing nothing but floating around on the boat but all good things must come to an end I suppose. Had a great time though. I had internet there through my computer tethered to my phone but it was very slow. I checked in from time to time but if any of you addressed me specifically and got no answer, please let me know.
  9. I rode my VR to work today for the first time. Everything went well until I was coming back from lunch. About a 1/2 mile from work, my clutch started slipping. By the time I pulled into the parking lot, I had to just idle into the parking space because if I tried to give it any gas, it would just slip. I had a similar problem before but only when I got on the gas really hard. After bleeding the clutch, the problem seemed to stop. Now I'm faced with the problem of getting the bike home this afternoon. Any idea what would have caused this to happen?
  10. I plan on buying a set of the v twin wide clamps. But I am in sort of a time crunch and may not have time to get the clamps shipped. So my question is do you all think as a temp fix a guy could use a worm type hose clamp?
  11. My dear wife has told me to go out and get a new digital camera for fathers day. I have a top $ budget of $250 but the lower the better. I want something that's small enough to carry in the tank bib that I can pull out and shoot while riding, it's got to have a decent optical zoom for scenery shots without a lot of lag time between shots. I'd also like it to have HD video that is not time limited for shooting ride video. I don't take pictures of the night sky very often. I'd use it mostly for scenery, portrait, parts pics and video. The easier to use the better. My last 2 cameras were Canons A620 and a A570IS I'm looking for recommendations from experienced photo shooters or a similar to me novice with actual hands on use, please.

    Senior Riders Sign In

Was just wondering how many senior riders (65 yrs. plus) are on the board? I will be 69 in Nov. and the lady will be 66 and we are still riding the RSV. Last year we logged over 8K miles. I told the wife the other day I think I will know when it is time to give it up. The moment I do not feel confident and in control that will be it. So far so good. Thanks!
  13. Just for those of you wondering about Eagleye,Steve, he is fine..... I talked to him today and is doing well and enjoying retirement....... He just decided to take a step back from all the forums and spend more time fishing and whatever else he feels like doing...lol He said thanks for everybody's concern.... He said he would try to make it down to Wisconsin MD.......Hope he does........
  14. You know how projects that start out simple turn into something else? Well I seem to always make that happen. I decided this winter I would make a smoker out of 2 air compressor tanks. I had a Harbor Freight trailer already so I thought why not make it mobile. So every now and then I would work on it and do a little more each time. I pretty much had it all done, and I decided it would get kind of hot out in the sun, so I better have some shade. So today I made a quick mount for an umbrella. Then while I was doing some baked potatoes on the grill I figured I better make a quick table for my soda (no beer for me). So I am pretty much done with the mods, until the next time I use it and think of something else. Heres a few random pics. I think it turned out pretty good.
  15. To my surprise, as I was driving home from work the other day, there it is, a 2008 charcoal gray( i think that is what they call it) RSV, just 1/2 mile from where I work. I know the guy that lives there, but didn't know he owns a Venture. Now I know why. Apperantly it spent most of its time in the garage. It only has 3300 miles on it. He is asking $9500.00. It is an S model, but has no extra bling. Not even a luggage rack. If anyone is interested Drop me a pm. I will take pic's. He is not doing any advertising at this time.
  16. OK folks, maintenance day is behind me and it's time to start thinking about the International. I finally got my registration in during MD. Big Tom and Team have some great things planned for us all. Not many registered so far and it's time that we start really pushing this and getting a count on how many to expect. So...what is everybody waiting on. Let's get together for another GREAT time.
  17. My son has a Dodge Caravan. 03 with 3.8 engine. He said it had been missing some. He is one of those that keeps driving as long as it will go. Thing is he started it the other morning and it ran for a short time and quit. It will crank but no start. He checked fuses and replaced Coil Pack. ( I ain't got a clue why) Anyway it cranks but no start. He claims no fire. 1st place to look? He wants to borrow my Ranger and those Varmits of his will trash the interior and outside given time. HELP!!! You know I can't say NO!
  18. Hey Y'All! Lately we have been having issues with the audio system on our '91 VR, mostly with the cassett deck. To get music we have been using an iPod and a cassette adapter. That worked really well until the cassette deck started having issues. The main problem was some times the drive system would not run and this caused the auto-reverse mechanism to cycle repeately. Each time the deck cycled we would hear a click in the audio. I tracked the problem down to the drive belts. Some times things were fine, but as time went on the problem grew worse. Then a problem with with my head set reared its ugly head: I had an intermittent connection and would loose the left speaker... To "fix" these issues we decided to get a set of Scala headsets... That turned out to be a bad move. Not only did the head sets not function as advertised, I couldn't stream audio from my iPod to both headsets at the same time, so I fixed my headset cable and we sent the head sets back... But that's another story... Anyway, I hit on the idea of getting an FM transmitter and forgetting about using the cassette deck. After some research, I decided to get a Griffin iTrip. That was a good move! This thing is sweet. Its small, it connects to the iPod/iPhone docking port, there is an app that will run on my iPod Touch 4th gen and our iPhones, and so far the audio is pretty good. When you compare the price of $30.00 for the iTrip to the $242.99 for the Scala head sets, its a no-brainer. If you're worried about battery life, the iTrip has a mini-USB port, and if you have a 12 volt cigarette lighter style outlet wired to plug in to your Battery Tender cord (Hint Hint!!), then all you need is a 12 volt to USB adapter, the appropriate USB cable and you're all set.... I haven't had the chance to do any road testing yet, but I might get some time to take a ride later on today and I'll post my results. Y'All ride safe...
  19. It's called Black Death for a reason. The pond Monsters are an urban Legend/Myth A packed umbrella would have been more usefull than the packed harpoon Beware of long heart tugging stories told by Skydoc There was no Strippers tent at MD in spite of what Starbog says. Always take your cold weather gear to MD no matter how hot it was last year and it is held in June. Bring more money next time to Skydoc's table It's great to find a new audience for my old jokes. It's a small world, found new friends who live in Ohio that met and married a mile from my house in Atlanta It was not neccessary to compromise my morals by stealing that roll of toilet paper from the motel the night before after Don posted to bring your own. They had plenty. Beware of Starbog's five dollar footlong. It was not a winner (in my case) Pink is a manly color. Never walk on site with an unopened Dairy Queen sack containing a Butterfinger Blizzard especially if Big Tom is around. If RandyR predicts that we are about to ride into the storm of the century with 70mph wind 3" rain per hour and 2" hail, disregard there is only smooth sailing ahead. Yamma Mama and Moped are just as I imagined them to be over the past few years, and that's a good thing. This event is attended only by old and new friends. Don and Eileen are super people and the most gracious and generous host. But everyone that has ever been to a MD already knew that. Don, Thanks for the good times and great memories I had a great time. It was well worth the long ride and price of admission. I forgot there was no admission price, or was there????????.... Do I owe you any money???????....... Do you take paypal????? Love you man, mean it
  20. Hey I said I would start a thread on this, so here it is. Plans so far: MarCarl to leave home at 8 am, arrive at Casablanca about 9 Leave Casablanca at 9:30, arrive at Fort Erie about 10:15 Cross the border and head for Quality Inn, Elyria, Ohio, hopefully be there in time to have a shower (only if needed) and then go to QSL for supper. So who's coming, and where do we have to wait for Ben?
  21. Fighting another that don't want to go. I don't change this thing with every filter but was this time and can't get it to lay down in grove as it should. Not the 1st time!! What do the rest of you stick them on there with. Don't really want to see oil on my new floor. I leave enough spots on Skid's.
  22. Well for lack of finding a better place to post these questions, I figured this is probably the catch all place. The wife and I were discussing some vacation plans. We were going to spend like 4 days in Vegas. Not my prefered place but it was partialy paid for. So I got to looking at my schedule and I have some time availabe in mid October. So I suggested we go up to Franklin Nc. A friend of the wifes has a house there we could use as a base. She liked the idea. I know from there we can make alot of day trips out and around, small towns antiques, rock shops etc. My main concern is at that time of year did I make a big mistake weather wise? I know its hard to tell now, but we shouldnt have to worry about snow and that right? WE are just hoping for leaves changing cool weather etc. The farmers almanac is forcasting averages of 68 for high and lows in the mid 40's. Man I hope I aint messed this one up too.
  23. Going up to Eureka Springs Thursday -Sunday (24th -27th) on a bike I just rebuilt. (it is multi-colored) I will be crossing at Greenville Ms.. What i am wondering is if there is anyone along the way that would be willing to help should i run into problems....the bike is fine right now but it hasn't been run in 4-5 years.. Anyway, that is my question. The trip is is my Churches Youth Group retreat. I will be busy with them and wont have time for "Meet-n-Greets" Sorry. but I do come into Arkansas occasionally so maybe next time.

    Time to start the summer!
  25. I know from time to time riders are looking for a cheap trailer, I'm one of them, I've been looking for about 9 months, and had settled on getting a small trailer and building one & then last night I find a gem... now it is on back order, BUT i'm in no hurry.. http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/trailer-accessories/600-lb-capacity-78-inch-tag-along-trailer-66771.html
