  2. Don't ask,, I just donated another five bucks,,, really wasn't my fault,,, had nothing to do with it,,,, I mean,, all I did was get off the bike at the gas pumps,,, foolishness, who ever thought of putting something on two wheels,,,and then nothing to keep it from tipping over,,,, something automatic I mean,,, should be a good place for an inventor to come up with a new idea,,,,and now it seems I started a new trend,, I hope not, but two rides and two lay-downs doesn't spell good for the near future,,,,,,,,, next ride I'm going to get bubble wrap,, and some foam,,, and spring loaded thingies. No damage this time, not even my pride,,,, it went before the fall,,,, heck it happens, just glad it was me and not somebody who would get all upset about these things. Good thing, this time Marca was already out of harms way, but the kick stand was not exactly where it was supposed to be so flipped back up,,, what it supposed to do,,, and I just let it go,,, what I was supposed to do,,,,, training paid off!!,,, just a little more smoke out of the wires, nothing too serious,, anybody need some lights???
  3. I just tried my CB for the first time, and it doesn't work. CB comes on in "TX" and Channel 01, but that's it. Cannot even change channels. Everything else works great.
  4. We decided to take a ride to Raceman67's to do some preseason scouting in the deer woods yesterday. It was a nice little ride for about 50 miles with a short trip by wally world for some food plot seed. We walked the property, threw some seed and walked back up to John's house just in time to catch John and Melinda with some friends kicking it on the rear deck. Being the gracious host that they are, we were immediatly welcomed and included in the festivities. One thing led to another and after grilled munchies and wings on the Green egg it got pretty late. So, the ride back at around 11:00 was down the country road where we had nailed a ten point buck with the Chevy Cavelier a couple of years ago. With that memory on my mind we rode back with the lights and the radio blaring as fair warning to any deer thinking about playing motorcycle tag. The ride back ended up being non eventful and by the time I hit the bed my lights were out in less than a minute. Been a while since I slept so good.
  5. A HUGE thank you to BigBear for taking the time to shoot videos of the proper way to use the valve shim tool. I would like to encourage any of you who has the time to produce such videos. They will make a GREAT addition to our tech library. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=711236#post711236
  6. since i'm fazing out the motorcycles. i can't believe i ended up with my all time favorites. i've had a few bikes that have earned a place in my heart, but my majesty scooter, v-star 1300, and stratoliner s are the pick of the crop. the scooter is my little caddy, 58 mpg, automatic, handles like a crotch rocket and will cruise all day at 70 mph. the v-star is fast, comfortable, reliable, looks nice, smooth, handles, and will cut the curves with the best of them. the strat is my all time favorite, bar none. it fits like a glove, sits low, handles great, has balls out power anywhere you want it, no vibration, and matches my royal star for the two best looking bikes i ever owned. i would think the new strat deluxe decked out would be right at the top with the ultimate tourer. the v-star is going up for sale and i will keep the scoot and strat until it's time to hang it up.
  7. This time it's me! Coming down a small hill, in a light rain, we came to a 90 degree bend. As we entered the curve....oh no it's covered in very fine gravel. As we began to slide we hit the guardrail at about 25 mph. We flew off the side and landed in the road. We just got home from the hospital an hour ago. I have bruised ribs from hitting the handlebars (I think), wife has a concussion. Thank God it was nothing worse,(but the ribs are still hurting!). We were hauled away before the bike was, so in the morning I'll have to track it down. It didn't look pretty when I last saw her laying on her side with her front wedged under the guardrail. Now, advice from you that have "been there done that", what are my next steps? If you were at Don's for maintainence day maybe you saw our baby. She is/was a white RSTD with chrome and gold/silver pin-stripping with 3 crosses on the tank and fenders. Hopefully she will look like that again someday! Mark
  8. On Wednesday, 8/22/12, our son Dan is moving out to attend Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, SD to study auto mechanics. Doreen and I are both saddened by this and at the same time very happy. Dan has a good head on is shoulders and we did the best we could to prepare him for the "Real World" out there. Sioux Falls is only an hour drive from Madison and he will be coming back most weekends, if nothing else to see his girlfriend and do his laundry. Hope he has some time for a ride while the weather permits. I already have standing orders to ride his Nighthawk once in a while just to keep it limbered up. He has plans to eventually open his own shop and is thinking about calling it "BENDT RODS". Stay Safe, Dave
  9. I got home from my trip to East Tennessee on Saturday afternoon. This trip was one of the most enjoyable things I’ve done in a long time. The weather was great and the trip went off without a hitch. As I said before leaving, it would have been better if I’d had someone to share this trip with, but this time I had to go it alone. I was able to ride many good motorcycle roads that up to this time, I had only traveled in my car. One of the most impressive parts of my trip was my visit to the Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum in Maggie Valley, NC. Anyone planning a trip to this area needs to take the time to go to Maggie Valley. The museum is a “Must See”. For only $12.00 you will have the opportunity to enjoy a piece of true motorcycle history. Well, I guess it’s time to start planning my next trip. Maybe next time I can find a few people to go with me.
  10. Just wanted to say THANKS!....I have just enjoyed another year here. Great folks like you have made the $12.00 that i just paid all the more Valuable. I haven't spent as much time here as i once did; but, every time i "open the front door" to this place I find you, and you treat me like a friend or family. Just wanted to say thanks for that.
  11. This is the first time that we have participated in a venture rider get together. We enjoyed meeting all of you and we had a great time. We look forward to making another one. Thanks to all of you. Raymond and Joan
  12. Deb and I are going for a weekend ride next week. Where you ask? Where ever the front wheel takes us. Looking for anyone that would like to join us. We live near Joliet, Ill. As of now, we have no plans other than to leave about 9 or 10 am on Sat and be back home sometime Sunday afternoon/evening. Basically, we will ride till we are tired and then try to find a room, then get up and do it again till we get home. Looking for something scenic and slow. No bar hopping or spending hours in a parking lot shooting the breeze. Don't get me wrong, we enjoy jaw jacking from time to time but this ride will be about the ride.
  13. Don, Is it possible to start a private chat room where a group could discuss things like the planing for events? I know you can have a private chat with one other person, I am looking for a private chat with more than one person at a time.
  14. Most members here know "Boo" he has been a member here for a long time. His wife isn't a member on the site but attends M&E with him. I have had the pleasure of meeting her for the 2nd time at the Asheville Rally last weekend. She is a hoot and a fun person to hang out with. Well I think its time that she has a Road Name / Handle. From here on, she will be known as "HOO":happy65: So the next time you see her it will be easy to remember her name. Like "Oh look here comes BOO & HOO."

    Made it to San Antonio

OK, going on our 3rd week here. Getting things fixed up, resolving a couple of problems and trying to get shelter for the bike squared away. We've been able to get out a bit, but most of the time has been spent working on the property and house. Buddy's been a big help and I try not to hurt him too much. Anyone wanna come visit, the coffee is on.
  16. Went to start the bike today & don't know why but I turned the key on/off multiple times. Each time I noticed the fuel pump kicking in. I did it a dozen times in a row & the pump ran each time. Then I smelled gas & found that the right front carb had gas leaking around it (overflow?). After awhile I hit the start button for a couple seconds & it didn't start luckily. But I got pretty concerned when I saw gas coming out of the right exhaust pipe back by the rear wheel. WTF?! Is that normal even if the float is stuck? What to do now?
  17. Ok guys (n gals too) I have a CB that is now staying on 09 all the time. It was working fine up until a couple of days ago. Acts like the red button is pushed or stuck but I checked that and does not appear to be the case. I know that there is a fuse that keeps the memory working so when the fuse is gone the CD reverts to 09 and that has happened before but this time I can't get it off 09 at all... I also noticed in the top right corner of the glass is another small 09 which occassionally disappears. Any ideas?
  18. For the most part, at anything above idle, my stock voltage gauge reads 14ish. Lately, it's been getting up there but it seemed a bit random. Tonight, I checked the wires leading to the R/R and man...did I ever get there just in time. One of the wires from the 3 prong plug had gotten so hot, it not only melted the plug, it heated up the connector enough to slide out of the crimp. One slight tug and it came completely free. I have been going over my bike and re-seating and greasing plugs as I come to them...I was planning on doing this anyway but damn...there was some serious puckering happening when I saw that bare wire. I pulled all the connectors out of the burned and melted plug, cleaned them up and plugged the wires together, without the plug, and insulating them. A quick startup showed the volts at around 14...right off of idle and steady as a rock no matter the load. Moral of the story; check those plugs. If you catch them in time, you may save yourself the time and effort of getting stranded and buying a new R/R.
  19. I need a little help on my 1989 Yamaha venture royal 1300 the air comp panel doesn't come on most of the time It will come on once in a while buy its self but it has no display most of the time. I have checked the plug it all looks fine. Have any idea what I need to do?
  20. Just got my trailer hitch from Larry (carbon One), I must say it's a nice piece of work. It's time to finish up on the trailer so i can use it to go to NY.
  21. He is well, but working harder than ever since retiring. He has been doing a bit of fishing (when it's not too hot) and keeping busy trying to catch up on all those little things he didn't have time for while working. He also just purchased a new computer and is the proces of getting it set up and should be back on line soon. Like most of us, he has found out that retirement is a hard job.....
  22. Saw this article in the local newspaper this morning: http://www.southernminn.com/faribault_daily_news/news/article_8c1f0cf5-24b3-5c3c-ac32-442eae3c96e6.html They have always been fair to me, and a friendly place to shop. I think they just took on too much debt at the wrong time, not that they could see a recession coming.
  23. Eileen and I got home around 1:00 today. I wish we could have stayed another day but had to get home to take care of some other business. I just want to say that Big Tom and his FANTASTIC team did a wonderful job with this years rally. They had so many prizes to give away that I thought they would NEVER stop calling numbers. Everything they did was done top notch. The rides, food, prizes, location.....I can't think of a single thing that could have been done better. We are so fortunate that we always have such great people taking charge and handling our rallies. For any of you who have never put one together, you have no idea of the amount of time and energy that goes into these things. Dingy already made an excellent post about Pioneer Motorsports so I'll just quickly mention again that they are GREAT folks. If we all had dealers like that, you would never hear the horrific dealer stories that we often hear. So thank you to all involved for making this years such a great success.
  24. Don spoke to Patti today at Diamond R Accessories. She asked us to let you all know that her father passed away yesterday. Some of you may have met him at the Intl Rally at the Hub 3 years ago. She was there with him. she also wanted you all to know that orders might be going out kind of slow for a week or so while they work thru this tough time. Please keep her and Allen in your prayers.

    Do you...

Do you trust your GPS? When you are on UNFAMILIAR roads...do you trust the directions your GPS gives you? Ours has been wrong a time or two...and yesterday, coming thru Louisville, KY, we detoured for lunch...and when we left the restaurant, the GPS was not taking us back the way we came...so I tried to redirect Don back and got CONFUSED due to the fact that a couple different highways intersect in Louisville... Anyway...we lost 1 hr driving time, got held up due to an accident on the hwy...and should have trusted the dang GPS the first time. oh well...live and learn I guess. BTW: Don has a Zumo 660
