  1. This is probably going to pretty dumb, but I will ask anyway........ Is there a simple way to find the threads I have posted to see the replies without searching up and down all the posts that have been made for each day? I know I will get a a bunch of razzing with this, so I am preparing as I type...
  2. Getting my new to me used 07 RSV tomorrow and I really would like to do my own maintainance on it. I see on this site talk of maintainance days at various locations and was wondering if anybody does any around here (Appleton WI). I could probably figure alot out myself but by the sound of some of the threads the manuals don't nessasarily tell you everything. Any help is greatly appreciated Jeff
  3. I'm thinking about trying to put a Venture cowling on my 2005 Royal Star Tour Delux. Anyone know if it will fit. If so where could I find one uesd . Also on some on these threads I see a map of the USA looks like you can mark the States that you have been to. How do I get one??
  4. Am looking to purchase or borrow an adaptor to fit my compression gauge to check my bike. All the ones on my set don't go small enough. I believe it to be 12mm or 14mm. The od of the threads read 11.87mm. Feel free to set me straight on this (I know you will!) Thanks guys (gals), Dan
  5. OK folks, I've added a couple of new features to the forum. Some of you may find them helpful. There was a request for a place to view the most popular threads over the past 7 days or so. If you are away from the site for a few days and want to see the most popular of what you have missed, there is now a way to do it. If you scroll to the bottom of the forum home page, there is a new section that shows the "Hottest" threads. If you click on the drop down menu that says "View More" in that section, you will get a more complete list. I have also added a new feature to the search menu. You will find a link there that will bring up your latest posts and/or threads that you started. This will make it easier to find a question that you have posted and/or a post that you have added. That's about it for me today. I'm at another hotel and the Internet service is awful. I will check out of here tomorrow morning and try to find one with better Internet.
  6. OK folks, you will likely notice that I am testing a new feature here. If you don't like it, just say so and it can go away quicker than it showed up. When you are posting a new message, the software will search for similar topics already posted before you submit your post. It basically works the same way as the current feature that shows a list of similar threads AFTER you post a new thread. This one will do it before you post though so that if your question has already been answered, you may find it before posting again. This should really help those of you who aren't so good at searching. It may be irritating to some though so let's try it and then let me hear your feedback. By the way, after you type your thread title and see the list of similar threads pop up, if you hover your mouse over each of the similar thread titles, a pop up will show you a summary of that post. Thanks Don
  7. An excuse to try out the new feature and ask a question too. Did you do away with the unanswered threads search on purpose, or did it fall by the wayside in an update? I used to do that once in a while. It served its purpose a couple times. Not a lot though.
  8. Not sure if this has been posted before ( I now see they have). I got the link in an email about a year ago or so. I especially like the Ducati one.... Have a look, enjoy... If its been posted before, its worth revisiting imo. On edit: it looks like these were just posted on 10/28/2008. Not sure how I missed them. And according to the nifty similar threads tool that pops up, also in 2007 a couple times. Well here it is again if you missed it. http://www.headgear.org/~cloyce/moto-motivation/ RSTDdog
  9. Just curious if there was a way to highlight a thread which I may have posted in. Is it possible to add something like a star or something beside a thread which I previously made a post in. There are so many new threads each day, I was thinking this would remind us of a post we may have made in a particular thread. Just an idea. Not sure if it is possible ? BRad

    Marking threads

I though I remembered reading somewhere that you could "mark" a thread so that you could find it later after it had gone stale. Anyone know? Thanks
  11. I have read tons of threads on carb syncing but I cant find any of the threads that people have been talking about that are carbtune howto's or guides. Anyone have the links on how to use the carbtune or sync carbs on a 1st gen?
  12. Folks, I've been doing a bit of house cleaning and will be doing it off and on over the next few days. If you get a PM telling you that a thread you started has been deleted, it's not because you have done anything wrong. Most of what I'm deleting are threads about upcoming meets and eats, rallies, etc. that are long past. There may be others also that are simply no longer relevant so don't worry if a thread that you started gets deleted.
  13. Well folks, looks like we need another reminder about political posts. I have deleted two threads that either started out as or turned into political discussions. Simply put, they are not welcome here. This was discussed and voted on by the membership long ago and it was overwhelmingly agreed upon that we simply do not need political discussions here. I understand how tempting it is with all that is going on right now in the world of politics. I have said it before though and will say it again. There are PLENTY of websites and discussion forums available if you want to argue about politics. This is NOT the place. I also want to comment on a post in one of the threads that I deleted. The post said something like "I thought that political discussions were not allowed. I guess that's only if you disagree with the admin". That statement is totally false and I am offended by it. I most certainly have strong political views but I try to be unbiased in the way that I moderate this site. No threads are ever deleted without much thought and when possible, discussion among the moderators. Many times a political type thread is posted and is not deleted immediately. The reason is that even though we do not wish to see political threads posted, if it happens, we will usually give it some time in case by some unknown miracle, it doesn't get nasty and turn into a debate between the right and the left. It has nothing to do with whether or not the admin agrees or disagrees with the poster. Perhaps we need to take a stronger stand and just realize that ANY political thread is going to turn into a nasty debate and delete them immediately upon one of the moderators seeing the post. Folks, we have very few rules here. We try to give as much leeway as possible in allowing discussions on many subjects. No political discussion is one of those rules. Please try to keep that in mind.
  14. My antenna is loose where it threads into the black piece with the chrome bezel piece. I can't get it to tighten or loosen because the whole thing turns, meaning the piece that threads onto the mount itself. Any ideas on how to get it off of there so I can get some loctite on it and thread it back on I don't mind it being loose but am afraid of losing it. Can I get an aftermarket antenna that just goes on the mounting bracket? Thanks, Ross
  15. What are private threads?? What did I miss?
  16. I want to extend my handle bars out (cause my arms are short), but don't want to replace my handlebars. I looked through some of the threads for info but didn't find anything. Any help is appreciated. Thanx Glenn
  17. One of my biggest concerns has always been that somebody posts a message and nobody responds at all. We get so many posts that it is easy for a new post to get pushed down the list pretty quickly and never get noticed. Most of our long time members understand that it can happen but for a new member especially, I just don't want them to feel unwelcome or ignored. So, I've added a new feature to the forum and if some of you can use it every once in a while, it would be helpful. Under the "Search" link in the top menu bar, there is now a link called "Unanswered Threads". Click on that and it will show you a list of new threads that nobody ever responded to. If you see one that is more than a day old, it would be nice to offer some type of response. Even if it's just something like, "Sorry, I don't know the answer but hopefully somebody will jump in soon with some help". At least they know that they are not being ignored AND it will bump it up again so that maybe somebody else will see it.
  18. To all, My apologies to all for a recent post (not mentioned). I understand the thread was deleted which was proper and in order. My intention was NOT to cause dissention among any members who hold other views on any particular subject. Please do not respond to this but let it eventually go the way of all other threads, but accept my apology as sincere. Now, go have a beer (non-alcoholic and at your own expense). Marv.
  19. Bought an 89 VR this past Easter weekend and fell in love with her on the ride home from Houston... only problem I am having is a persistent ignition noise (increases with RPM) in the headset only in intercom mode. Stereo and CB are clear as a bell... but at highway speeds the intercom sounds like a herd of bumblebees are in my nut cover. I have checked the threads here and haven't found anything addressing ignition noise except from a system-wide perspective. Cleaned and dielectriced all the connections in the headset system... both driver and passenger... no help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  20. What is the reason that I can't use a 55w (H3) in my driving lights? I did wire the driving lights using a relay and fuse. It is on an 05 RSTD, nothing but lights. BTW, I've read all of the threads regarding this, seems like they mostly concern a venture. Steve
  21. Went out to check the battery on the 86 this afternoon, powered up fine, but since the last time I turned the key about a month ago, it has decided that the low brake fluid light should be on. I read a few threads here this afternoon, found the rear resevoir was a bit low, brought it up, no change. Now, I read something about a possibility of resoldering the computer? Are there any threads that deal directly with that? I couldn't find any, and not that I"m really looking to do something like that, it would be good to at least have the reference. Thanks. Joe
  22. Some one asked about repairing a cloudy sight glass on the break reservoir. I bought an old one from Jack off his old Maxim for my Virago. The site glass was cloudy and the mirror mount was broken and here is what I did. To repair the sight glass I used super glue and just coated the lens with it with it laying horizontal when it dried it was clear; not totally flat but good enough to see clearly the level. On the mirror mount I had a set of adapters that go from 10mm left hand thread to right hand thread (for the right side mirror). The piece that was broken was less than half the threads so I screwed the adapter in as best I could and used JB weld to glue the adapter into place so I have good threads. On the left I just screwed the adapter in so both sides look the same. Hope this helps. Rod
  23. Just to let everyone know. Over the next few days, we will be doing some housekeeping and deleting the older, and out of date threads. We have threads going back to 2006, and most are no longer germane.
  24. OK, I've removed my carbs because the intake manifolds are getting huge cracks. Earlier someone had mentioned these cracks would be cosmetic only because the intakes had metal sleeves in the core. NOT MINE!! Some of these cracks actually only tissue paper thickness from breaking through. Boy am I glad I pulled the carbs.. But that's getting sidetracked..... :whistling: I've read the tech pages and a few of the threads regarding rejetting. There seems to be some cloudy areas and I really don't want to go through this more then one time... :confused07: In the tech pages I'm getting the impression Don is saying changing the main jets isn't gonna help that only the pilot jet needs to be replaced. Is that what the general feeling is now? In one of the threads someone mentioned they got negative results from shimming the needles. Can anyone shed better light on this? Is modifying the air intake still recommended? If so, can someone point me to "HOW TO"? Pictures might be nice here also... Well I guess that's about it. Thanks in advance for any help...
  25. I have tried to view a few threads this afternoon that require my password to view, not a problem; but i curious as to why my pass word wont work to view the threads. am i doing something wrong or are they locked out for some reason?
