  1. After reading the excellent thread on this site on how to fix the flexing problems in the engine guards, I made the repairs yesterday. I did it as the thread said to, and without a glitch. I just can not believe that Yamaha does not know that this is a poor design and a real weak spot. God forbid anyone dropping their bike prior to doing the fix, I'm sure a lot of bodywork would have to be done. The hardest part of the entire job is taking off the floorboard mounts, they are torqued on and with blue locktite. The 1" 3 piece bar clamps were the most expensive items on the list, at $7.99 each from J&P Cycles. Part # 7000127 . Do yourself a big favor and make this fix, you will not believe how solid it makes the engine guards!
  2. The recent sea stories thread has inspired me to make a ship pictures thread. Here are some pics of the USS Monterey(CG-61). I am a Plankowner(original crewmember). http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/149101789_5667c260d8.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/139353617_657d9faf49.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/192000939_da110a6212-1.jpg Here are some pics of what a rooster tail looks like at flank 3 battle override, A pic of Angie and I out on a dependent's cruise, and me on commissioning day. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/Navypics.jpg And here is one of my Plankowner card. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/Plankowner-2.jpg And here are a few of my oldest playing Captain. Man they grow up so fast!! My second son was in the oven then. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/JaredShip.jpg Let's see those pics!!
  3. Someone here a while back had bought a rear bumper/light bar that was supposed to be for a Venture but it was odd shaped. He posted some pics but if I remember right nobody could figure out what it was for. Anybody recall who posted that? I can't find the thread now. Mike
  4. I've made a little change in how the "New Posts" function works. Previously, the threads would remain on your list but would go from bold font to regular font. Now the thread will be removed from your list after you have read the new post. One note though, if the thread is multiple pages, you have to go to the last page so that it at least THINKS that you have read all the new posts of that thread. Let me know if you like it better this way. If not, I can easily change it back. I also may have to change it back if it has a large affect on the server. This method is more server intensive but I think with the recent upgrade, we should be OK.
  5. In a recent thread and cell phone use, a few people were talking about the safety of newer cars than old. I can across this clip earlier today, I though it was eye opening. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joMK1WZjP7g]YouTube- Crash Test 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air VS. 2009 Chevrolet Malibu (Frontal Offset) IIHS 50th Anniversary[/ame]
  6. Maybe Im blind, but I don't see a way to edit a classified once it's posted. I found this thread, but I think the software has changed since then. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32364]Edit A Classified Ad - VentureRider.Org[/ame]
  7. Help, I'm self taught on computers, and I did not have a good teacher. ?How do I bookmark a page, and will that do what I think it will (let me quick and easily check latest on a thread I'm interested in)?
  8. Let's try this again. I quit monitoring the other thread because activity got slow and those requesting parts that I did have seemed to not follow through when I PM'd them letting them know that I did have the parts they were looking for. But I, noticed today that there had been some recent activity that I was unaware of. So, I'm starting this new thread to let everyone know that I do still have a bunch of 1 gen parts mostly MK1 83- 85 but some MK2 86-93 parts. Most of the most asked about plastic is gone but I do have the following left 83-85 MK1 both saddle bags tank cover rear fender Complete frame Almost complete engines 1200 and 87 1300 controls parts and cables brakes and system parts and a bunch of other misc parts I would like to move them and get them out of the work space and I'm done trying the ebay route so these parts are going super cheap and in some cases free as long you will pay for shipping. If you need some thing PM me what it is and I will answer you back by PM. I'm real motivated to help out other members by clearing these parts out to new homes that need them.
  9. OK...I am so sorry that it took me so long to get around to this but for those who wanted a bit of detail on how I made the center stands for the RSV, I have added some measurements and pictures to the original thread in the tech library. You can see it here. Please note that I am no longer offering these stands. This information is provided for those of you who wish to make your own. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1427
  10. I have gotten to the point that the first thing I do when pulling up a thread is to look at the original date. There have been several that are one to two years old that it appears the poster that brought it up, ran across it in a search and took off again, without realizing the date. This is fine as we have a lot of great threads, but if I find an old post pertinant, I will start a new thread and refer back to the old post. I think this keeps down some of the confusion, even though for some, I think confusion is a big part of their life. RandyA
  11. Hello to all. Just a quick note. I will be starting production again the 1st week of December. I have tried to keep track of all who want cables. I will put up a thread or a classified add and start gathering names after Thanksgiving. We are moving this week and next so I won't pay attention until after that. I don't want to miss anyone so I figure an official thread with a by screen name list will work the best. Thanks so much folks. JB
  12. How do I post something off You Tube onto a post or thread on VR.org? :icon_smile_question
  13. I originally posted this in a thread started by tx2Sturgis regarding the new Spyder motorcycles, but I am seeking input and decided to start the new thread. Anyway, I wonder when some enterprising individual will come up with a conversion kit for the RSV that will change out the front end to two wheels and leave the back end alone?????? I would think that would be something to consider. It seems that this type of conversion would be easier to achieve (if not cheaper), we would keep the workings of the RSV, and it would implement the increased braking ability of two front wheels. What do you think?
  14. This is an open notice to those who would like an item from St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. The demand hasn't been high for these items that I have so if anyone is interested in having one please check this thread. All I ask is that you pay the priority mail shipping charge to get it to you. You can go to this thread to check out the pictures and the shipping costs. 15. There was a thread a while back where someone peeled open the reflector on the trunk of a 1st gen and installed strips of LEDs to act as running brake and turn signals. I have been doing searches for 2 days and can not find it. I really do not like having just one light on the back of the bike at night. I have about 6 feet of the red LED strips left over from a different non bike project that I can now use for this project. I will be creating a progress thread of the illumination of my Venture with links to products used and any special procedures or techniques that I had to use. I will be skirting the edges of the law and adding as much light as I can figure out how to, with out getting in legal trouble. A lot of what I intend to do is scattered about on VR.org and will end up getting compiled here, I also have a few new ideas . The steps will be completed in order of importance with safety first, functionality second and cosmetics last.
  16. I posted a thread last night and put it in the wrong forum. How can I change it?
  17. Just so that everybody see that the previous thread has been updated. Please see the first post for of this this thread for pricing and ordering info. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41413]VentureRider Insulated Mugs - VentureRider.Org[/ame] I am locking this thread so that all posts and info will be in one place.
  18. Ok, I'll admit I'm not the brightest bulb on the Christmas Tree at times, but I've searched and I'm coming up with nothing. Can someone please post a link to the thread that explains how to run the extra ground from the starter to the frame on a 1st generation. I've got an 86 VR and I'm trying to take care of some issues. Also if there are any pics on running new battery cables, I need some help with that too. Thanks, I appreciate any help I can get. Mick
  19. Hey everyone! Been a while, Things are going okay even though my world is being rocked from just about every direction. I guess I need to catch up a bit, I'll save it for another thread, anyway, The bike has been running great all summer haven't had to bug anyone about it at all this summer. Well, I'm trying to get my old boat back together for next summer and was looking for some info on rebuilding its ford 302 powerplant. Anyway, I tripped upon this thread in another forum and thought of you guys. Now I'm curious as to what opinions you all might offer as to whether or not this would work on a first gen such as mine. [ame=http://www.audiforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80267]Hey guys, please help with my mods gone wrong..... - AudiForums.com[/ame] Thoughts anyone?
  20. I think I'm in dire need of a new stator. Can someone point me in the right direction. I know some time ago, there was talk of a beefed up stator on the market, but cannot find the thread. My current output is 12.57 volts, but I cannot live on the battery alone for long. Joe (Saddle_Bag)
  21. At least that is what I think they are. If you have a royale, these screws/bolts are holding your radio controls to the handlebars. If you dont have a Royale, there are plastic plugs over the holes in the clutch and brake reservoirs. I am trying to mount something in those locations and cant find what bolt goes in there. Plus I'm sure the right hand one is left and thread from the looks of it. Anyone know of a store online that may have metric fine thread left hand bolts in chrome? If not chrome then stainless? if not stainless then anything? I'm sure finding a set of stock ones is like finding hen's teeth.
  22. OK, first I just want to say that this thread is only an update for general info, so please dont add to this thread. I would like to thank those who have purchased these deflectors. And for their great patience with this project. We have shipped out 16 sets so far. It also turned out to be a very labor intensive project which requires hours of sanding, machine first then up to 2000 grit sanding by hand. Just about all of the finishing is being done by one man, Dan. Right now Dan is a bit under the weather and he needs a few days to recuperate from his illness so there will be a short delay in finishing the remaining sets on the first run. Hopefully Dan can resume making these by this weekend. Sorry for this inconvienence.......
  23. I've received a couple of PMs about the restaurant review forum. People are asking how they post there? I'm sorry for any confusion but the reason you can't post there is because it is not finished yet. It will take me a few days to get it finished. Once it is done, it will be different than other forums here. There will be forms for each state and province. You will select the form for the state/province that the restaurant is in and fill it out. The results of that form will be automatically posted to the correct thread in that forum. You will not be able to post directly in those forums as you do others. The reason is that I think it should be limited to reviews and not with a lot of responses and comments. This will make it easier if a member wishes to print the thread from one or more states. They will get the list and not a lot of additional talk. There will automatically be a poll attached to each thread so folks will be able to see if other members have eaten there and what their thoughts were. I hope this makes sense and that it is acceptable to everybody. I will post here to let you know when it is ready to go. It may be as late as early next week though. I still have a lot of work to do there.
  24. Except for the standard TOOLS that come with a RSV 2nd Gen, what are some other tools to take on a long road trip? I'm about to embark upon a 2500 mile trip and want to make sure I consider the lessons of others. Let's create a list for other to use. I'll put all the ideas in a final post after this thread has been up for a while. This is only for NON FOOD AND WATER items. (Rain gear is not a tool ) What else is recommended? - I'm taking a mini compressor, slime, and tire plug kit.
  25. Hey gang! I purchases a 2000 RSV MM edition with a trailer. I've never ridden a bike with a trailer and I am flying up to pick it up in 2 weeks... What's the safest way to pull it? Should I load it down a little or keep it empty? I read the trailer thread in WH and I'm just a tad nervous (not from his story, but the people that say pulling a trailer is inherently dangerous.) This is the rig: http://www.thundertowerharley.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=08798334X8K16K2009J1I06I28JPMQ1604R0&veh=644&pov=1345399
