In the past with other bikes I've owned, I always came up needing a part that's near impossible to find. After months of searching for some parts, I came across a couple of motorcycle "Wreckers" in the Greater Vancouver area. Unfortunately, one closed it's doors, but the other is always busy with people looking for what they need and the owner helping out whenever possible. That second location is a business called "Bent Bike" located in Langley BC. I thought it would be a worthwhile thread for people to list any recyclers in their area to form a resource for those looking for parts for their aging bikes. For example, I walked in the door today and hanging up in the rafters is the left side saddle bag for an '84 Royale, no lid was visable but apparently they have a lot of other plastic from that bike. I'll put the contact info below and if the powers that be find that this isn't a good idea, feel free to delete this thread, (or make it a sticky if it's worth it...) Trader threw down the gauntlet in the DQ thread. Southern PA will meet at the DQ on Lancaster Ave (462) East of Columbia at 7:00. I lied and said Columbia Ave in the original thread. Same road. It becomes Columbia Ave a few miles east. See you there! 1624 LANCASTER AVE COLUMBIA, PA 17512-9543

Hey! It's been a while since I've been able to visit you guys. A while back someone had a thread going keeping us updated periodically on his project. He was putting 2nd gen gears into his 1st gen. Anybody remember who that was or could you point me to the thread? I'm not finding very quickly using the search method. I've been curious how his project was going. Thanks, Bill

I decided to sync my carbs today since I have noticed a little roughness and it's been about a year since my last sync. As I was hooking up I remembered a post from last year where someone asked a question about syncing at cruising rpm or a higher rpm than idle speed. (I haven't been able to find the thread.) Anyway I decided to sync at 2300 rpm, just because it felt about right. I've got to say, it seems smoother than it was the last time. Does anyone else do it this way or what do you think?

OK Folks, I have been working with a patchmaker out on the left coast and she will be doing our patches for the rally. They are a bit pricey, but have 8 colors in them and a good amount of detail. The patches will be $12.50 a piece and we can either send them to you or you can pick them up at the rally. I am putting a poll up for the #'s game on how many we need to have made and it will display your name for how you voted so I can keep track of it. I will come back in a later thread and give details on where and to whom to send the monies to. If you have question PM me or ask them in the thread, I will keep this bumped up to the top and we'll let it run for 2 weeks or so....here is a pic of the patch.

I have a 98 RSTC and purchased a set of 98 RK pipes last week, new take-offs and a set of V-twin chrome clamps. I will make some brackets to hold the new pipes in-place. My question is, where do I actually make the cut to remove the stock pipes? Is there a thread or post that shows the place. I don't want to screw this part up. What type of cutting device did you guys use? lesrub@aol.com Thanks Les

Second Gear Question
Jayceesfolly posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hello: I am looking at a '85 VR to buy for parts, and am considering restoring it instead. It runs well, just needs cosmetic work. Anyway, I am not sure if this bike has the second gear problem and would like to know if I can trace the serial number to see if it has the problem. The owner does not have any info on the problem and is not familiar with the second gear problem. I thought I saw a discussion in this forum about serial numbers and model years but can't find the thread, either in General Discussions or the 1st Gen Tech Section. Does anyone remember the thread and, if not, can I go to Yamaha with the serial number to check and see if this bike has the newer harder washers or pins installed? Thanks for any help Jim- 4 replies

Not from VR, but from my beloved 1st Gen. It just seems to be one thing after another, got it all painted and pretty and the brakes started acting up.The brakes had never given me a problem before I took it apart for the repaint, so I am baffled now as to why all the trouble. I would imagine the calipers need to be rebuilt. I put new pads all the way around, replaced the rear reservoir, started using Dot 4 brake fluid, and the brakes are still locking up after riding for a short while, while I was doing all of this today I found my front fender was cracked starting where the speedo cable holder is, something must have hit it because it was perfect when I put it back together. 2nd gear needs to be taken care of, it shifts into it but if you get on it hard it will pop out, was going to wait on Muffinman to help me with that, but I am just tired of having to do something to it everytime I turn around. It runs great, doesnt leak oil, has new Shinko radial on the rear, an Avon Venom on the front with about 50% thread left on it. It has am/fm,intercom, CB radio,Sony 10 CD changer mounted in the saddle bag and it all works perfectly. I also have an extra CB radio to go with it. I would like to get $1800.00 for it. I am going to give it one more chance, and if the info I read from Condor works on the brakes, this thread will dissappear............PLEASE STAND BY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got the job of doing the up keep on a pair of 2009 CT50s. 800cc. Trying to track down which oil filters will fit. If I got this right they have the 20x1mm thread on the filter, the same as the VL800 Intruder. Anybody got any info on oil filter numbers that will match up? Thanks Mike

Hey Boss, Is there a way I can change the title to thread that is visible other that in the first post? I see where you can get to change the title of a thread but it is only viewable in the first post. I would like to see the change in the list of thread titles like when you select New Posts or go tone of the other forums. Why Is ask is that one of my recent threads has been solved and I had made a mistake in the title. My intentions were to fix the error and let everyone know the issue had been solved. I can live with it either way, just hoping it were possible. Thanks, Rick

There is an article in todays paper stating the the provincial government is going to crack down on motorcycle riders due to there having been several deaths recently. Most of the deaths they refer to were caused by automobile drivers turning left into the motorcyclist or pulling out in front of the motorcyclist. I intend to send a letter to the paper and to the motor vehicles branch explaining that it is the automobile drivers who need to be cracked down on. Some time ago I saw a thread here which showed research into motorcycle accidents and the increase in the death rate was largely due to the increase in SUV's and high pickups on the road. I would like to use that thread but I cannot find it. Does anyone remember it and can you tell me where to find it. Thanks

It is that time of year to think about lubing the speedometer on the 1st gen. It is usually worse when the weather is cool and probably when the bike has sat for awhile. Even though you don't need the type fitting in the attached thread, it does work good. Other wise, you will need to take the speedometer out of the dash and put grease down inside of where the bearing is that the cable goes into. Putting grease up into the square hole where the end of the speedometer does not work because the hole does not go all the way through. Anyway check out this thread. OK Folks..... It's 2010 now officially for the last 11 days and now it's time to set you creative types to put your thinking cap on and show us what you got with a design that we will pick for the T-shirts for the International rally. We'll use this as the idea thread where you can post up your designs and we will have a 2nd thread with a poll where we will vote on the design the majority like. Keep in mind that this years rally is the 5th anniversary of the original rally held at Potato Creek State Park In Indiana. We'll run this till the end of January and on Febuary 1st we'll put the poll up with the entries we have and pick a winner....so show us what you got!
