  1. Got up this morning for a 300 mile ride & for the first time ever the bike wouldn't stay running. It started but just barely would spit & sputter enough to stay running for 20 seconds or so. If I touched the throttle or took it off full choke it died. At least 2 cylinders were firing as I had exhaust out of both pipes but was just barely chugging. Last rode it a week ago & ran fine. So then I dumped some Seafoam & new gas in. After many more tries I was just about to give up the day thinking maybe I had some bad plugs, then on about the 30th start, it chugged for about 5 seconds, then POP (an audible pop or maybe backfire), but immediately it was idling normal. Shut if off & it fired right back up. Rode all day, many stops, no further problems. Any idea what was stuck, fouled, etc? I'm thinking I should check or fix something, but what? I'd like to know so if it ever happens while 1000 miles from home I'll have a clue.
  2. My bike has been chosen for alternative fuel. I have to add a car 140 amp alternator to my 92 venture royale. Any idea how?* Thanks in advance. Was thinking of bolting straight onto the stator nut. Or putting a pulley there? Thanks! Lee
  3. I am thinking about an item swapping project that is stewing in the back of my slow working brain..... I am still thinking about the logistics, but to start people thinking about it, here is a small hint of what the project is: You would have to mail a package to me with somewhere between 75 and 100 small items (depending on how many people sign up) OF MY CHOOSING in it, and I would distribute the items you sent me to all other participants... In return you would receive a package with one item from all the other participants, however due to the scale of this project all participants would have to include return postage.............. I am trying to work out my items first BEFORE any of the participants collect there's so I can provide a photograph to get the excitement going..... I am wondering about where some of our active members are from. I assume there is a member in each of the 48 contiguous United States, so I need to know about how many of you live Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS). As I cannot find the FRAPPER map of members I need to ask: Who lives in Alaska? Who lives in Hawaii? Who lives in a country outside the US and what country is it and what State/Provence do you live in? Oh I might need someone to manage the participants list as I do travel for work quite a bit and sometimes I am unable to access the internet for a few days.... The only down side to this project is I will have to limit the number of participants to ONE per State/Provence so only 47 people from the Continental United States can participate as I count as one.
  4. We had the radio on at work. After the first plane hit, I thought "what a freak accident", then the second one hit and I was thinking it's impossible, this can't be happening...
  5. Well, I finally got my starter out....haven't had a chance to work on it for a few days. I even got 2 broken bolts and stripped thermostat bolts out! When I opened the starter I was expecting a LOT of dust etc...but there wasn't hardly any. Which makes me wonder if the PO had done anywork on it. Question....the brushes are about 7/16 (or 1 cm") in length. They look like they fill the length of the holders pretty well so I'm thinking they are nearly new. But you tell me.....Do these have lots of life left or should they be replaced? I'm thinking it is such a PITA to get to, I might just as well do it while I'm here. I'm planning on putting in Dingy's ground mod...anything else I should do while I'm there? polish anything or ????? I'm in uncharted territory as far as anything I've done before!
  6. Thinking of selling out and maybe head to new Mexico in the next year or so... any good locations, sugestions??
  7. OK...so we've seen the video of the 19 year old going airborne in his Trans Am. There were several comments something like "hey...we've all done stupid things and been lucky enough to live and tell about it" So...now here's the chance to tell about it! Mine was pretty simple...but its the one that sticks in mind the most (yes there were others!) I was riding TOO FAST on one stretch of winding up hill road (Albion Rd. for you folks who know Hamilton, ON) The last corner was a tight right and I just couldn't get it to go around the corner. I drifted into the oncoming lane just as I was cresting the hill. It was steep enough I couldn't see over it and it is only blind chance that I didn't become a hood ornament on some car! I still get shivers when I think about what might have been. So Whats yours??? I'm thinking this might lead to a LONG thread
  8. I have been in contact with The Goatkeeper (Dianne) about how James is doing. He's still in a bad way to go as far as their not knowing what is making him pass out. Here is her PM to me with whats going on. "His daughter is down here again, and staying with me. We have talked about the mayo hospital in Rochester MN look at him. The doctors here are ok but puzzled as to what's going on with him? no cancer thank god. Just trouble with blood pressure that drops when he gets up quick or stands to long? Then the headaches come and boom down he goes. I will inform him of your message, if you can, will you post and tell everyone that he's thinking of all of you folks? Thanks Dianne" He's obviously not out of the woods yet, so if you folks want to drop him a PM I know it would help his spirits if nothing else. Send one to Dianne too as I'm sure her spirit needs a lift too. Thanks to all of you that have kept a vigil with keeping James in your thoughts and prayers.
  9. Thinking of getting another bike. Am looking at several 2nd gens. I came across this one . 2008 YAMAHA VENTURE FULLY DRESSED Is that a resonable price for the bike or should I keep looking. Am also thinking of going to kawasaki nomad as I had one before and no problems with it durning the 4 yeaars that I owned it. All comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bill.
  10. Was thinking on adding something to my RSTD seat to give me a little help in the comfort department. Went on a 750 mile round trip ride last weekend, got a tad sore, and was thinking about beads. Not sure if the sheepskin would be better though. This topic has probly been gone over before, if so, sorry for bringing it up again. Sending the seat to Rick Butler would be the best solution, but will have to wait. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
  11. I was thinking about getting a GPS unit for the bike with the ability to move it to the car as needed. The motorcycle specific ones are way out of my price range. I was looking at this one in the link and it looked pretty good at a decent price. Anyone have any pro or con info on this or similar units like the garmin 255? Is it worth the price? Will it hold up? I know nothing about GPS units so any info would be appreciated. http://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-Nuvi-265WT-Wide-Screen-GPS-System-P1924.aspx
  12. G'day V Riders I rebuilt my front forks, now the antidive units both leak ! I replaced the "O" rings thinking that might be the problem, but no, it's the antidive units themselves. I read that they can't be repaired and Yamaha have discontinued the part so I've bought another pair on ebay hoping that they will be better than mine. If they leak too, I'm thinking of removing them completely and blocking off the holes with a plate. I have fitted progressive springs. How will this affect the ride ? Jim O'D.........
  13. I forgot to mention. We do have a hot tub so bring your swimsuits if you think you might want to get in and relax. NO NUDITY. I'm thinking that some of you just don't look good naked any more...if you ever did.
  14. Which drink holder do you have (and it has to save mpg too ) I know I probably won't get a lot of responses right now due to MD, but gotta ask while I am still thinking about it.
  15. Since I replaced my rear brakes last week, I am getting a clicking sound when I apply my brakes. It's kind of like haing a playing card in the spokes of a bicycle (Hush, Yammer). It's not quite that loud, but I can hear it. I already tore it back down, and everything looks like it should. I am thinking it is just pad vibration. The pads are EBC HH sintered. Anyone else experience this?
  16. I know this is off the wall..but curiousity has the best of me. For those that are, can u see the (color) blue led's on patrol vehicles or are there any other colors that would are more visible, like red or yellow? Forgive me for my ignorance on the subject...I was thinking of adding some yellow led's in addition to the blue lights to back of my unit for doing details on the interstate, etc.
  17. Does anyone know of a source for a high quality 6"x9" AZ state motorcycle flag, made and sold in AZ? Lacking that, how about made OR sold in AZ? I am thinking of one like this, but I am buycotting AZ. Dave
  18. Where to buy Ride - On tire sealent?? A member here had a Plug blow 2 times yesterday the last time put him in the ditch...got me thinking..ordering a new front tire (21k) on existing tire, and want to put Ride on in both front and back..... Thanks
  19. Where can a guy get a copy of the VentureRider logo? I was thinking of getting some vinyls made up for my helmet and truck. I also was thinking of having a master cylinder cover engraved with the logo. Thanks, Bill
  20. I planning to replace my rear brake pad and was thinking about the carbon lorraine pads. Has anyone used these pads and what do you think of them.
  21. Went to change the lube in the rear end and started with the wrong part. I twisted off the cap on top of the rear end thinking it was the filler. It wasn't. What is it? How much damage have I done?
  22. I am thinking about trying a I basket on my 07 RSMV... Is this the correct part number for the I basket? 4XY-16150-09-00
  23. What air pressure are you running in the front forks?? How much of a difference does it make? Has anybody put progressive springs in their forks and if so what were the results?? Inquiring minds want to know. I'm thinking I want things a little stiffer in the front and am going to experiment with several different pressures. Gonna start at 10 psi and work from thetre..
  24. I read a thread a couple of days ago that has stayed with me. A few bikers sitting at a traffic light were killed by a dump truck that ran thru them. My first thought was another 'dumb axx' truck driver. Then I realized that I was thinking this while driving my truck down the road. Then I started thinking about how many times I've said the same thing about cagers while they are cutting you off and slamming on the brakes to get off the exit you are passing instead of falling behind the 'big truck'. Or how I've had guys on bikes pass me at better then a hundred, and we have all seen the wheel stands in traffic on the road. We have all sat next to motorcycles so loud that you can't tell if your radio is on. But I have always considered myself a biker. Well that got me to thinking. When I drive my truck I am a trucker, my car, a cager, but most of my free time I am a biker. But I like to think I am one of the 98 out of a 100 that you pass with out a problem, lets you in when you have to get over and yes....does use his signals when turning. That's when I realized that most people you are on the road with, not during rush hours though, mind where they are and actually know what they are doing. It is the idiots no matter what they are driving or riding that make the impression and keep us on our toes. It is those 2 out o a 100 that keep my head on a swivel. My two cents anyway
  25. Can anyone tell me the stock temp for a first gen VR? I'm thinking that the P.O. put in a colder one. There should be an optimal temp for this motor and I'm thinking that the factory knows best! In my experience with muscle cars- a colder thermostat= less power and higher fuel consumption. Many people (including myself have made this mistake). Thanks--Shawn
