  1. I received my invite in my email and have been giving it serious thought about going. I just have to convince the wifie poo that she also wants to go. She's not thinking she would like the long ride. it would be a 6-8 hour ride for us. I know she would like it once we got there. After all she wasn't sure she wanted to go to the "Leaf Looker's Run" last fall either. But she ended up really enjoying herself. Is there anybody in my area, (Thorp, WI) that might be going so we might have someone to ride with? Or at least meet along they way? I'm thinking we would enjoy the 53 north to Duluth and then shoot west route better than heading into the twin cities. Thanks, Bill
  2. Can these engines be started on the bench. I know that a chevrolet engine can be started outside of the car, can ours? I am thinking of an 83-84 1200. Thanks Scot
  3. I have a '83 std with a few problems. I have nicknamed the bike Frankenstein due to a busted windscreen that now has some plexiglass stirps small bolts and fender washers holding it together. Question 1: She slips in 2nd gear at wot, doesn't pop out, just slips. Is this the dreaded 2nd gear problem? I have been planning on tearing her down this winter. Most of the plastics are in bad shape. From ebay I have managed to buy both side upper fairings and a trunk shipped for about 250. THe fairings need some repair but not much and much less than the current ones. Front forks need rebuilt, since they are apart might as well put some progressive springs in them. WHen I let off the throttle at highway speeds she seems to want to nose dive a bit, is this normal? I am also having some front brake issues so I will go through the whole brake system. WHen 2 up riding i seem to bottom out the rear shock when I hit bumps, thinking progressive needs to update that as well. I am also thinking of putting Vmax heads and cams on her. Got it apart might as well. RIght now when I start her up she pours fuel out of the overflow hose coming off the carbs. THinking I might need to do some carb work also. Is there any way to rejet the carb? Just kind of looking for a few little performance nuggets. I also read a post that someone cut and tinted a windscreen so that is on my list of things to do. And have her back on the street by March(my birthday). Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions greatly appreciated.
  4. I am about to get a zumo model gps. My question is could I wire the given chord to my battery tender chord using the proper adapter? I was thinking of doing this to avoid making extra connections to the battery.
  5. Just sitting here in my Fruit of the Looms doing some thinking. Do my best thinking like this at times. I know you use a CPAP machine as I do. Reading up on it and if you aren't using machine as you should your sleep will still be interrupted at times and these inturruptions can lead to memory loss. I guess you haven't been using your machine as you should. This explains why you have those memory lapses and forget the lesson taught to you about 1st Gens and 2nd Gens. Bringing "Brown Sugar' Down this year and she is faster than "UGLY" I may have to give lessons again in 1st Gen Ed 101.......:rotfl: Be good to see ya Bro!!!
  6. I would like to know if anyone from Indiana has use Dryer for maintenance. If you was happy with them. I have a 2005 RSTD with 43,000 miles on it I got it new. The bike is stock except for Bub slip on's. I change my on oil, brake pads and plugs. It runs great and MPG is still good around 50 on the road. But I would like to get the valves check. I was thinking of get it check out this winter. After reading on this forum and other forums I think it hard to trust the dealers or who they have working for them.
  7. I have started to notice that at idle and only when hot, a dry metallic type rattling noise is coming from the area of my clutch cover accompinied by a slight vibration. I'm thinking clutch but before I pull it apart I am wondering if this could be an indication of more issues that I may find inside. Anyone Else ever run into this?
  8. Have an 85 VR. I just restored the trunk, is/was there some kind of strap or cable that keeps the lid from flopping all the way over onto passengers seat? I was thinking of attaching some kind of cable but thought I would ask here first in hopes to get some creative ideas on how others have done.
  9. between MK I and MKII? I got all these parts for the 83 and now I just bought 88 wondering if any of these will fit (I'm thinking yes to all) collectors? solid motor mounts? condor superbrace? carb diaphrams? antidive block off plates?
  10. Yesterday, my wife and I were talking about the International Rally in Cody. It is really a lot sooner than you think. I hope that all of you are thinking about and making plans to attend. We are excited about it because neither of us have ever spent any time in that area and there is so much history to see there. It is going to be a GREAT time and I'm really surprised that more have not already signed up for it. Please start thinking about it and get registered ASAP. You are going to miss a great time if you aren't there.
  11. Hi, Has anyone taken a 1st Gen VR up the Dalton Highway in the last couple of years or so? Mine is itching to do it, thinking of next summer. It would be about a 4900 mile round trip.
  12. Dose anyone use a steering damper on their trike? The steering on the trike I'm building seems loose(easy to turn) thinking it may give me a wobble at speed or in turns. Have not road tested yet, working on fairings & paint Thinking I may need a damper.Looking for ideas. Thanks (work in progress) :canada:
  13. I have a 2004 RSMV and the front brakes are extremely noisey and very annoying. The bike only has 22K KM (approx 13750 Miles) and still has the factory pads. Even though they are still good I want to change them to get rid of the noise. I as thinking about going to the EBC and was wondering which pads, the organic, ceramic, ????? Please advise.
  14. Hello All, I know this has been done before but thought I would ask for some suggestions on my upcoming trip. I live near Albany NY (upstate) and plan on riding to Clarkesville Ga. to see my brothers new cabin in the woods. Original plan was the wife was to ride along but she has gotten cold feet and is planning a trip to Detroit (??) to see our son. Soooo, a buddy may join me on his ElectraGlide but has not committed, I'm going solo if need be. After a long tough winter working on a new building in the Catskill Mts. I am in need of this ride! So any suggestions are welcome - thinking of the Skyline / Blue Ridge (did that 30 yrs ago on our honeymoon in a cage) and the Cherohala, Dragon, etc. Gonna make the ride enjoyable both ways as I have 10 days or so. Plan on riding with my brother from his camp after arrival on day trips. Probably do the Dragon then as it is not far from his place. One thing I am thinking of, is bringing a 2 man tent and bag to camp out a couple nights - never would have happened if the bride was along but I love it and can save a few bucks as well. Any good campgrounds on the way down or back is appreciated. Will take alternate route back so as to see as much new area as possible. Departure date is in limbo pending close out of the project but in the range of June 10 - 15. Off from work until July 5 but have plans to get back to our camp on Lake Champlain for 4th weekend or before. So fire away! I can't wait! :cool10:
  15. hey is there a list to sign up on to request a a seat mod from steve at md that is if he's going to be there this yr. I'm thinking i'd like to have mine done now old age is setting in lol
  16. And here I was thinking you were "THE" DQ Ice Cream aficionado and you missed this one. Wait, actually that was probably a good thing. There wouldn't have been any left once you had your "piece of cake"
  17. Does anyone have a 4 pin CB mic they can try on thier bike and see if it works? I want to get a power mic, but most are 4 pin and the price goes way up to get them rewired to 5 pin. I'm thinking the 4 pin will work but I'm not sure.
  18. http://www.cyclefish.com/event/9756/ Im thinking about it this weekend. DAvid
  19. I keep seeing "2 up" and thought it was referring to 2nd gear but not thinking so any more. Can someone explain this to me. Thank You. Shaun
  20. We've been out in East Tennessee for a week. We went to Gatlinburg for our 25th anniversary, and have toured the area quite a bit. We even got to ride the Dragon...in the truck...lol. We came up to Rogersville, where I toured the local TVA plant, as I've been thinking about relocating, and transferring to this plant. Well, it turns out they are short handed, and want me to come NOW...lol. We are still thinking it over, and need to sell our house first, if we do. If we move, I know we will miss our VR friends from around home, but I see there are quite a few here in Kingsport, Johnson City and Morristown. I would have liked to have time to meet up with everyone while we are here, but there's just not enough hours in the day. Not decided yet, but we are leaning toward relocating out here. Heading back home in a few hours.
  21. I am going to start here and then go to the rally section. During our ride Tuesday, Lady Linda and I started talking about a little vacation get together this summer. We have thrown out a couple of suggestions about Asheville and have gotten some response. At this moment, I am thinking about taking the week of June 4th thru 12th and taking the little camper and spending the first part of that week maybe camping at several different campsites. Then about Wednesday or Thursday, pulling into Asheville. Rather than trying to put together any kind of rally, since this is the year for Vogal, I am just thinking that I may just say we are planning on being there for some camping and riding and if anyone wants to join us, come on down. This is really not much different than usual, as Asheville has always been a pretty low key event, but I would like to see if there is any interest. The main thing is, if we load up the little camper, we will have to pack as light for camping as possible. If we are going to spend the last part of the week at Asheville, and we have some interest in others joining us, then I will set the camper and make a trip across the mountain back to Johnson City to bring all the extra stuff, like the big canopy, bunches of chairs and all that other stuff that we can't seem to do without. Anyway, got to go for now and we will see what others are interersted in. Thanks, RandyA
  22. Looks like im going to need some type of knee surgery soon. I was thinking of getting Aflac for short term disability. Any one here use them?
  23. How many are using a smaller bike for daily in town quick trips? I have been thinking it would be nice to have a little bike for in town running and quick trips close to home. Id love to have a small vespa typwe scooter as our town is really small and a helmet is not required. Just thinking outloud.
  24. Well I am thinking about building a trailer for my bike. I am thinking about doing a steel frame with a fiberglass shell. Now I know that there are plenty of people here that have pulled trailers and what are your thoughts? Anything a bike trailer needs? Anything to watch out for. I have experience with fiberglass and the know-how to make the mold and all so there are no worries there. I also have decent welding skills. I have made boat trailers before so I know how to keep it square so it will track strait. I have a source that I can get all the materials for around $250. Should I try it or am I better off buying one? Shaun
  25. :Happy Birthday: :Happy Birthday: Well hope you have a good day, it's a bit cold where you are suppose to be. That is as long as you got to Bagram without any stops. Stay warm and safe Oh and in case someone's thinking I'm early that's only for here, over there it's already tomorrow. Love ya Margaret
