  1. Better watch the amount of watermelon you eat. Forget the oysters. Texas A&M scientists say watermelon contains ingredients that deliver Viagra-like effects to the body's blood vessels and may even increase the libido. Researchers from Texas A&M have long-studied the fruit and found that it contains natural "enhancers" to the human body. "We've always known that watermelon is good for you, but the list of its very important healthful benefits grows longer with each study," said Dr. Bhimu Patil, director of Texas A&M's Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center, in a news release from the university. Watermelon and some other fruits and vegetables contain phyto-nutrients, including lycopene, beta carotene and citrulline, which are compounds that produce healthy reactions in the body, Patil said. Specifically, scientists believe it's the citrulline that has the ability to relax blood vessels, much like Viagra does. When watermelon is consumed, citrulline is converted into the amino acid arginine, which works “wonders on the heart and circulation system, and maintains a good immune system,” Patil said. "Watermelon may not be as organ specific as Viagra," he said, "but it's a great way to relax blood vessels without any drug side-effects."
  2. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scjb_f95diA]YouTube - I've Been Everywhere (in Texas that is...)[/ame] Man, that made me homesick. Even though I am leaving for Hawaii this afternoon and have a reservation for a Honda 750 for my one day off.
  3. I am going to need a new rear tire long before I need a front - probably about the time I get back from the Canada Rally. I normally order my tires from SW Moto Tires and get the free shipping when I buy a pair. But I only need one now, so . . . Anyone in North Texas need one or more new tires? I'd like to combine an order and get free shipping on my one. I'm not in a super hurry, but I'll order as soon as I find someone to share with. Thanx! Goose
  4. We're thinking about retiring again... This time to the South Texas area and would love to have some input on the area from Rockport to Brownsville... no more than an hour, from the coast... If anyone lives in this area, I'd love to ask some questions, so please drop me an email at 1bigyeti@gmail.com ... Thanks... Tom:backinmyday:
  5. If you are heading to the Texas Hill Country, you might want to consider the Whitten Inn in Kerrville for a place to stay - couldn't get more biker friendly than this place! Their normal rack rate for a double is $80, but if you are on a motorcycle, the rate is $60. And if you are smart enough to stop at any Texas visitor center first and look in the travel coupon book, you just might find a coupon for them at $50! When you check in, they give you a free beer, and they have a bike wash station and wipe-down rags available. The rooms do show some wear, but they are clean and in reasonable repair. The rest of the place looks pretty decent too. Goose
  6. I have made this offer before, but I know that a post gets lost quickly after news posts push it down the stack, so I am making it again: I have a tire changing machine and am very happy to help any member who wants to come on over to my place near DFW airport in North Texas and slap on a new tire. That offer is good even for someone who might be riding through the area and wants to order a new tire to be shipped here (just coordinate the dates with me first so I will be here when you show up!). In addition to changing tires, I can balance carbs, cut down windshields, install vents, etc. I am happy to help anyone I can, just give me a shout. I don't ask anything in return, except maybe bring a six pack of beer when you come over - I hate to work dry! Ride safe, Goose
  7. Every one in N.E. Texas ok??? just saw some pics on the news that they had some nasty storms in Texarkana area.. Hope all are ok.. K
  8. i don't really know where to start this, so i'll just post the particulars, and field questions as they arise. on MAY 3, 2008, a group of local sponsors, are going to be bringing about 200, "wounded warriors", down from "BROOKS ARMY MEDICAL CENTER, in san antonio. these guys are all wounded COMBAT veterans, who are in the processes of healing. they will be treated to a day of fishing and visiting at PORT O'CONNOR, TEXAS. they will be coming down by bus, and escorted EVERY inch of the way, by local leo's and pgr riders. EVERYONE is invited to come down and show their support. just pick out one of these "broken warriors",and spend the day "just being there for him/her". or visit with ALL of them. their immediate families, are often hundreds of miles away, and they have nothing to do but sit around BAMC, and recover. our south texas P.G.R , guys will be there to do what ever we can to make this happen , and be a success. . disclaimer: if i have offended anyone , with this post, let me apologize now, and be done with it. just jt.

  11. Ok folks - now for something completely different. The City of Buda, Texas Lions Club hosts an event every spring. It is the WEINER DOG RACES!! That's right, two days of dachsund racing and other fun stuff. The festivities are on April the 26th and 27th this year. The "Run for the Roses" is on Sunday afternoon. Anybody up for an afternoon of "hot" dog racing? This is like the 13th annual race. We will be going up on Sunday just to have fun. JB

  15. Just came home from seeing the movie 'No Country for Old Men', and I was just wondering..... are guns that 'popular' in Texas? I've heard that Texans like their guns, but I think I might be a tad nervous riding through rural Texas after seeing that movie. Anyone else seen it?

  17. Oh, if you were wondering where he is I enjoyed cheese cake last night. After he left Meandogs, he headed my way, in the pouring rain, and arrived last night. He wanted to go to New Orleans ( of all things to visit the HD shop) before he and Lonna made there last leg to Texas. Oh, you did get that, to visit an HD shop, don't ask me why:whistling:. Anyway should arrive in Huston tonight. It took longer than we expected because of work on the bridge crossing the lake that I didn't know about and then the traffic in NO was terible, couldn't find a parking space even in the pay parking lot. So we got out of there and headed west and stopped to eat and saw them off to Texas about 3:30PM. He said he would find another Harley shop in Huston, oh well:think:.
  18. My son and I recently got back from a ride in the Texas Hill Country. We visited Fredericksburg, Leakey Luckenbach and Bandera. We rode the Three Sisters ( FM 335, 336, 337). We also made a stop at the Texas famous, Garven Store. It switched from rain to shine on all three days but we got some good riding time. This is the first ride we have got to do together since he came back from Iraq. Here are a few pictures from the trip. Moakster
  19. This is AWESOME!----------hope that all the pics. come thru!!!! In Texas we really do pull off the road and stop for funerals......nobody moves until the last car has gone by. http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.2&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 What follows is a message from Vicki Pierce about her nephew James' funeral (he was serving our country in Iraq): "I'm back, it was certainly a quick trip, but I have to also say it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. There is a lot to be said for growing up in a small town in Texas . The service itself was impressive with wonderful flowers and sprays, a portrait of James, his uniform and boots, his awards and ribbons. There was lots of military brass and an eloquent (though inappropriately longwinded) Baptist preacher. There were easily 1000 people at the service, filling the church sanctuary as well as the fellowship hall and spilling out into the parking lot. However, the most incredible thing was what happened following the service on the way to the cemetery. We went to our cars and drove to the cemetery escorted by at least 10 police cars with lights flashing and some other emergency vehicles, with Texas Rangers handling traffic. Everyone on the road who was not in the procession, pulled over, got out of their cars, and stood silently and respectfully, some put their hands over their hearts. When we turned off the highway suddenly there were teenage boys along both sides of the street about every 20 feet or so, all holding large American flags on long flag poles, and again with their hands on their hearts. We thought at first it was the Boy Scouts or 4H club or something, but it continued .. for two and a half miles. Hundreds of young people, standing silently on the side of the road with flags. At one point we passed an elementary school, and all the children were outside, shoulder to shoulder holding flags kindergartners, handicapped, teachers, staff, everyone. Some held signs of love and support. Then came teenage girls and younger boys, all holding flags. Then adults. Then families. All standing silently on the side of the road. No one spoke, not even the very young children. The military presence..at least two generals, a fist full of colonels, and representatives from every branch of the service, plus the color guard who attended James, and some who served with him .. was very impressive and respectful, but the love and pride from this community who had lost one of their own was the most amazing thing I've ever been privileged to witness. http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.3&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 I've attached some pictures, some are blurry (we were moving), but you can get a small idea of what this was like. http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.4&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0' These photos are awesome !! http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.5&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.6&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.7&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.8&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.9&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.10&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.11&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.12&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.13&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.14&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0 http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=1322_6716341_9914_1671_560953_0_26416_762806_3613002726&bodyPart=2.1.15&YY=5656&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=0THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST MOVING E-MAILS I'VE SEEN.
