1. Tomorrow Nov. 11, 2010 on Veterans Day, the Texas Roadhouse restaurant near me is offering a free "Early Bird" (4:00 to 6:00 PM) meal to our military, active or veteran. My offer (by email) is valid only at the Fishers, Indiana restaurant, but I would guess that if you check their main web-site there will be something there for other locations. Other VR members in the Indianapolis area may want to take a trip to Fishers. Must provide proof of military service. I will use a copy of my Honorable Discharge. It's only 44 years old. The DD 214 is getting a little faded.
2. anyone from houston been to the texas cycle chrome store on northwest freeway? got any goodys for ventures
3. Started my trip back to Texas today from Wa. state. The weather finally cleared, hopefully it will be good the rest of the trip. Didnt get as far as I wanted, my rearend isnt used to the long rides. Stopped in Grants Pass, Or. and had dinner with my sister. The goal tomorrow is Arroyo Grande,Ca. to visit my cousin. Bike is doing good, the whining is getting a little annoying. Good riding Mark
4. A big-city California lawyer went duck hunting in rural Texas. He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence. As he climbed over the fence, an elderly farmer drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing. The litigator responded, "I shot a duck and it fell into this field, and now I'm going to retrieve it." The old farmer replied, "This is my property, and you are not coming over here." The indignant lawyer said, "I am one of the best trial attorneys in the US and if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you and take everything you own." The old farmer smiled and said, "Apparently, you don't know how we do things in Texas. We settle small disagreements like this with the Texas Three-Kick Rule." The lawyer asked, "What is the Texas Three-Kick Rule?" The farmer replied, "Well, first I kick you three times and then you kick me three times, and so on, back and forth, until someone gives up." The attorney quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the old codger. He agreed to abide by the local custom. The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the city feller. His first kick planted the toe of his heavy work boot into the lawyer's groin and dropped him to his knees. His second kick nearly wiped the man's nose off his face. The barrister was flat on his belly when the farmer's third kick to a kidney nearly caused him to give up. The lawyer summoned every bit of his will and managed to get to his feet and said, "Okay, you old coot! Now, it's my turn!" The old farmer smiled and said, "No, I give up. You can have the duck!"
5. just heard on the news, Texas highway patrolmen will be looking for "drunk drivers", this weekend. new tool - - - NO REFUSAL. if you refuse a breathalyzer test, they will have warrants in hand, to take blood samples for testing. great idea, but could also cause more problems for the leo's. just jt
6. I told Sleeperhawk I wanted one for Christmas! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwgahHGxlTo]YouTube- Texas Flashlight[/ame]

9. A little girl from Texas singing her heart out! Rhema Marvanne was born 9/15/02, lost her mother, Wendi Marvanne Vararitskul, to ovarian cancer on November 8, 2008. Rhema lives in Carrollton, Texas and attends The Branch Church (Vista Ridge Campus). See George's post below (my computer is having issues!)
10. I've sold a set of floorboards to a fellow in Andrews, Texas, and I was wondering if one of the riders coming up to maintenance day in Ohio would mind taking them back to Texas and sticking them in the mail for me. Would save the fellow some $$$ in shipping charges, and he would get them that much sooner. Just floorboards, no mounting brackets. I could throw in a few bucks for gas if needed, and the money for the postage will be provided. gunk:hurts:
11. I know we have a few (or many) members in Texas, but Texas is a big place. I may need some Venture Rider assistance in the San Antonio area. Just wanted to reach out and see who is there. It would involve meeting someone at the Bass Pro Shop near I-10W and Loop 1604 and then dropping a package in the mail to me. I may be able to get the owner to ship to me, and the deal may not happen, I'm just trying to be prepared. Thanks, James
12. Hello all - the annual carnival is just around the corner in Ohio - as usual, I'll be riding up form Tex-ass. Planning on leaving Wednesday the 16th. for a two-day ride. I usually spend the first night just north of Nashville, Tennesse. Anyone in Texas, Arkansas or Tennessee want to join up for the ride? If you are riding up from the desolate southern regions of Tex-ass, we can give you a bed here for Tuesday night. Lemme know . . . Goose
13. Wife's company is offering a transfer to a position in Danville, KY, 35 miles southwest of Lexington give or take. I wonder if the riding in that area is better then the flat barren roads of the Texas panhandle.
14. Check out what Ponch and I found here in Texas, Genuine Mini Muffins, made by.........BIMBO
15. You know, when the MODERATORS have nothing to do this is what happens. Just for a certain ex-Navy MODERATOR, :moon: TEXAS is not big enough to hide you. See that noose Mr. MODERATOR
16. FINALLY,FINALLY, FINALLY, Closed on the sale of my company!!!!!! since December I have been fighting and arguing about the sale of equipment, customers, trucks. we came to an agreement. Now I am packed and ready to move to Texas and get out of this god forsaken state of Michigan where last year we voted down service taxes and good ole Jenny found a way to get them back in to become a law. Cant take it no more so I'm moving. I plan on leaving Saturday the 24th. So if anyone knows of something good to see on my way to Texas thats not to far off the beaten path maybe we can have a meet and greet and grab a bite to eat. And I can get my new start on life.
17. got the spring issue of ride texas magazine and on page 17 the texas stampede group that went to athens has a picture of us when we were at steam engine train
18. Here is a photo show of some of the "Back Roads Of Texas" photos on their face book! http://www.photoshow.com/watch/MH2HV8my Phill
19. Today the Queen Bee (Margaret) decided it was time to try out her new knees on the bike. She had her second knee replacement December 28 and has been recuperating. She has been faithfully following her PT regiment and has progressed nicely. This morning we took off on the scoot for a 'trading days' in Livingston Texas. On the return trip I told her I felt a detour coming on and we took off across 105 all the way to Montgomery Texas and then back to Houston. All told about 200 miles. She faired very well. We stopped about every hour for a stretch. It was so nice to have her riding with me again! I have missed her company. On a side note: Boy do I need to get my clutch upgraded! Here's hoping for a fun 2up riding season!
20. Saw a couple on a Red and Raven 2nd Gen today in BellVille Texas around 1630 or so...any body here?????? Great day for a ride!!
21. "Everything is bigger in Texas" Including the darn stones they use to chip seal the roads. Wow, it's like driving on marbles. I'd forgotten about that since my last trip.
22. Well, I usually smile smugly when some folks start talking about having to put their bike up for the season - here in Texas, even North Texas, our winters are generally mild enough to ride all year long. But today is going to be an exception . . . Had a record snowfall yesterday - beat all records going back 111 years - between 9-14 inches in the DFW area. Officially they reported 12.5" at the airport, which is fairly close to my place. The good news is that we don't have much ice with it since the temps have stayed right around freezing. Lots of slush, and tonight looks like it is going to get down in the 20s, so tomorrow morning will be a bit dicey! Goose (Man, this global warming is TOUGH!)
23. A week or so ago I was cruising along FM 4 herre in Texas going up hill into the wind with my trailer on. I was running about 70 and thought, faster. So I grabbed a hand full of throttle and the Venture sounded like and old Chevy 283 with a two speed Hydromatic that had down shifted. Instant thought dam clutch slipping. Well it turns out that was the case. took it to Yamaha west in Ft Worth. Where I bought it. They tore it down measured everything. Gave me the bad news clutch discs worn out. I asked what it was going to cost to fix it, TalKd about the options of upgrades and all like I've read about here. Well Aaron said lets hold off and see if I can get it covered under warrenty. I said well ok but its a wear item they probably wom,t cover it. He said that yamaha really likes to take care of Venture owners, lets try. Well he called yesterday and lo and behold, COVERED!!!!! I can't say for sure if it is a dealership thing or a Yamaha thing, but I can say that these guys have really taken care of any and all concerns I have ever had with the bike. And if you remember last summer when a fellow Venture riders shock laid down on him here in Texas and he was ffrom Utah. Guess who had the shock Yamaha west. Goose picked it up and went to Blanco with Tom and got him going. Kudos to all involved. Well I just want to say if your in north texas and need Yamaha service or parts you will do your self a favor by giving these guys a shot at your business they have sure earned mine!!! :bighug:Btw 2008 Venture with 60,000 yes 60,000 miles and, COVERED!!!!
