1. I bought a 2006 RSV I am newbie to this site but have enjoyed all the help and support on the site. My question is my Betsy has abiut a 5 gallon gas tank no star emblems. I am thinking it should have a six gallon tank. Is there amod or something where the tank is swapped. Just curious like thebike the way it is.
2. Is somebody on the group doing tanks and paint repairs? I had an accident taking my bike to the storage, and as a consecuence a ding on the tank with loss of paint on the ding, and scrachtes on my saddlebags. I have a Venture 2000 on Red and Burgundy color. Thanks,
3. I had a place reproduce the original decal on the gas tank of the Auranthetic mini bike I have. I think they did a great job.......... I posted a picture of the gas tank so you can see the original decal and then a picture of the reproduced decal. Now its off to the sandblaster to remove the paint from the gas tank..
4. I want to replace the tank on my 09 RSTD with the larger RSV tank. What is the oldest model year 6 gal. RSV tank that will fit my bike?
5. I have an aux fuel cell connected via a valved T between the Main/Reserve selector and the fuel pump. Can I use that at Maintenance Days to run my bike if I take the tank off? Do I need to short the fuel sender unit or something? Dave
6. looking for a tank bag that is not too large and (pretty much) water proof . Any ideas
7. My daughter just called. She's at the house her and her girlfriend share. Their furnace is apparently not heating. She said they just had the propane tank filled yesterday and it seemed to be working last night. Tank is on and showing pressure. I was trying to walk her through checking and relighting the furnace. It's an Arcoaire Deluxe 2 stage Model NTP605. I had her check for stickers on the panels for relighting directions and all they could find was one that said "Autostart", no relighting info at all. I'm not even familiar with propane furnaces so I'm gonna ask.......what the hell? Any suggestions as to what I can do from here to get them fired up? Mike
8. Last Friday I finally completed the 87MKII 1st gen and got it back on the road. It's been on the center stand for about a year while I worked all of the known bugs out of it. At first I had a performance issue with old gas at the bottom of the tank but after running the tank dry and filling with fresh gas, then adjusting the idle it seems to be running great. I haven't had a chance to put a lot of miles on it yet to evaluate if the 4200 rpm stutter has completely disappeared. But, so far there has been no sign of it. I'm also expecting the 26MPG issue to have greatly improved. I'll report after a tank of gas or two has been spent. As always I would like to express my profound and sincere thanks, gratitude and pride in this forum and all of it's distinguished members that have graciously assisted me directly and indirectly in this on-going Labor-of-love. That assistance has been in the forms of advice, technical knowledge and support, donation of needed parts, well written and timely technical articles, friendships and camaraderie. And, so much more impossible to express in my limited use of the language, and without tearing up. Within the next few days it will be time for me to detail, service and return the 07 Midnight Venture That I have been riding for the past two years. That bike has been on loan to me by another true and valued friend who has generously allowed me to use it as it was my own. Now it is time to get him reacquainted with his bike since not riding for the past two years. Hopefully, I can encourage him to join and become involved in this forum. I know because of the type of person he is, and the nature of the people on this forum that he will find a motorcycle home here in doing so. As I have. I'm sure that he will soon discover as we all have, that it will be the best $12.00 that can be spent.
9. I was recently at a car show in Palmyra N.Y. when I came across this crazy built up Royal Star. Its running nitrous and everything. Incredible custom work on the tank and what a paint job. Even has neon light. Is this one of our members? has anyone else ever seen this before outside of New York State?

fuel light came on . I kept riding .20 kms later Needed to switch to reserve. I kept riding . 70kms after that i ran out . Thats ok now i know I have less than 70 kms on reserve. BUT what pee'd me off was the fact I could only get less than 22 liters in the tank . What happened to 23 liters and 3 of reserve making this a 26 liter tank ?
11. So many of you guys have a lot more mechanical wisdom than I do so I am posting this question for your opinions..... I recently went completely through my bike getting it restored (99RSV), new paint, new parts, new mods, blah blah, blah- you get the point. When we reinstalled the gas tank getting everything put back together the low fuel indicator light now stays on. The contacts appear to be good and I cleaned them for good measure(where they connect in front of the tank), still the light stays on. This morning I replaced the fuel thingy in the tank.....still same problem. Now though here's what happens: Turn key on, get correct fuel level reading on gauge momentarily then all fuel bars blink 7 times pause, blink 8 times pause, blink 8 times again, then only the top fuel bar continues to blink(the bar for totally full) none of the other bars light, meanwhile the low fuel indicator remains lit. The tank has about 5 gallons of gas in it. One more thing I will include is that I replaced all my indicator lights in the dash with LEDs which take much less wattage to operate are a lot brighter and have a long long life. What are your thoughts ?? :detective:
12. I added some coolant to the small tank it was empty the radator is full and over night the small tank was empty, and the oil level was up. I changed the oil refilled the small tank to the full mark took it for a ride and it was pushing the coolant back into the small tank to where it would over flow. There is no white smoke from the exsust and it runs fine. I am hopeing that this wasnt the reason for the PO to trade it off. I Talked with the PO and he told me that he had just put a new thermotat and cap on the radiator. There is no coolant on the floor. Am I looking at a blown head gasket or could the water pump be leaking on the inside or the cylinder water jacket joint. Orlin
13. Hi all, I am trying to find a part number for a vender or tank and not the whole assembly. When I look on star's site it list all the parts but it does not seem to list the actual fender or the tank. I want to just replace the fender and tank and do not need all the other parts. Ebay is not an option since this is for insurance purposes. Appreciate the help. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/images/smilies/mytruck1.gif
14. OK i let the bike set up for well since Isaac came through i put some unknowingly bad gas in the tank from a gas can i filled up before the pending visit of Isaac i must have gotten the bottom of the tank i ran some berry mans treatment cleaner in my tank the whole can in the 4 gal. of gas it was running bad lose of power before i got back to the shop that's when i added berry mans and ran it for about 30 min. then shut it down that was Friday i just cranked it and it was still running bad so i drained the tank at the fuel filter the gas was dark yellow like old gas hooked the line back to the pump and cranked it. it was still slow response on throttle all 4 cylinders are firing so i took the air box apart looked in all 4 carbs are spraying gas but slides were not moving i assisted them by moving them with a screwdriver now i have only one not moving on its own could it be the diaphragm any suggestions would be greatly appreciated before i take cover off carb diaphragm and tank has fresh gas the crappy ethanol gas
15. Problem, RSTD, has NO Radio. Solution " Jensen JHD910 " Marine quality AM/FM Wx band radio. Bought one, installed in a Tank Bag, Installed antenna, Works great !! Some problems with Ignition Noise on AM band, but my new home brew antenna has almost solved the problem. Anyway, Its a darn good Radio !!! But--- Its expensive, About $200.00 bucks, Size, its only 5 in wide, 3 1/3 in high and about 1 3/4 inch thick. A deffinate plus for mounting, Takes AUX input for MP-3 players,
16. What is the fitting you can see if you look down between the handlebars and the fake tank shroud on the right side? Looks like an air fitting? Anybody know?
17. Something is wrong with my fuel gauge readings on my '06 Midnight Venture. I had the bike serviced by my local Yamaha Dealer. New plugs etc so the tank had to come off. (First Time Ever) I drove the bike for a few days after getting it back. The fuel gauge was on 1 bar left and the Low Fuel Warning Indicator came on. Always used to come on with 2 bars on the fuel gauge. Anyway, I pulled over and switched the petcock to reserve. I got about 2 miles and the bike ran out of gas. Never did that before. Got some gas from a generous nearby homeowner then filled the tank at the nearest gas station. Ran the tank down over the next few days and the indicator came on when I reached 2 bars on the fuel gauge. I pulled into a gas station not very far away (maybe 2 miles). Filled the tank and it only took 4 gallons.??? Being very confused, I decided to take the bike back to the dealer to have them check it out. $103.00 later, they said that nothing was wrong and everything worked as it should. This particular would never admit to anything as I have found out from other riders. I have ridden the bike bike for several months now not really sure how much is in my tank except when it's first filled. I went on a long ride through the mountains this past weekend with my main squeeze. I have to say it was beautiful. On the way home the Fuel Indicator light came on and 2 bars on the gauge, so I pulled into a gas station and filled it up. It only took 3 1/2 gallons. Huh? Anybody else run into this? The local dealer is not the place I want to take it to ever again. How many bars do you people have left on your gauge when your Low Fuel Indicator comes on? How much fuel does it take to refill your tank if you refill immediately once you see the indicator? Is there a way to replace the gauge in the tank? Thanks.
18. I'm gonna change my spark plugs myself. Looking at that project closely, It appears I might have to raise the gas tank to get to the front two plugs, Am I thinking right?
19. Came around a curve on the way to work this morning, doing about 45, and saw some turkeys right on edge of road just ahead. A hen flew up and took a low trajectory right across in front of me, there was zero chance of missing it. Caught me right on the throttle side hand grip. Jerked the bar back hard & bike went into a tank slapper for about 10 occilations. Got it to settle down and kept bike upright. Bird did not survive, fingers are a little sore. I have turkey crap across the black tank cover, but no damage I could see to bike. Tweety 1, Turkey 0, we advance to the medal round... Gary
20. Ok, been a lot of conversation lately about fuel pumps and now I'm chasing a problem with mine.... me thinks. First of all the bike is in good shape and most possible issues have been addressed in the past. Fuel tank lined with expoxy. Fuel filter and petcock shows clean and free. (Opened the tank to inspect) Fuel lines have all been replaced Tank vent clear and free of obstuctions. Carbs in good working condition and fuel bowl levels at spec. Good fuel flow through system. Air filter clean. Sync done recently. Electrical connections recently checked and found to be clean and sealed. Cooling system clean and working properly. Bike is not over heating. Charging system and electrical working properly and in good condition. Different fuel bought over a week from different stations. The problem only happens when the temps are in the top end of the 90's or over 100. Everything works fine in cooler temps and no problems of any kind. What happens is the bike, at highway speeds (60 - 75 mph) after being ridden for a distance in hot temps just stalls and sputters out. It will cranks right away but needs to sit for a bit before starting again. The first time it happened I wrote it off as a possible vapor lock. The bike had been sitting out in the sun since early morning and I didn't leave work until 2:00 PM when it was 101 degrees out. I only had a gallon and a half in the tank so I figured with the heat maybe I was vaporing. After 15 minutes the bike fired up and I rode home with no furture problems. I did check the vent line at that point. I filled the tank the next morning and ran about 100 miles that day in 80 degree temps and no problems. The next day it did the same thing again with a over half a tank in temps close to 100 again. Same thing. Let it cool down for bit and ran on home. It's done the same things twice more since then in the high temps but I made note that the digital voltmeter was showing a nasty fast drop from the usual 14.2 volts to 13.5 -13.8 right as the bike started to sputter. Not normal. And again today on the Interstate when it was 97 degrees. So knowing everthing I've checked is working as it should, almost, with the sudden drop on the voltmeter just as the bike stalls out I'm starting to question the fuel pump itself. NOTE: I can't say I've seen the volt meter dropping prior to the stalling, only note it as the bike is stalling. Is it possible the pump itself is stalling out do to a heat related failure causing the drop in the volts? It functions properly when cooled off. I can not get the bike to stall while on the stand and letting it run hot. It only stalls hot and under load. Kind of got me scratching my head... Mike
21. hello i will getting my carbs from pinwall tomorrow what all do i need to do before i put them on the bike i will of corse be putting sea foam in the tank first time and i hope that this will fix my proble with the rt rear cycl bumble bee 1999 rsv
22. I am looking for a tank bib for the RSV. Does anyone have one they want to sell? I'd prefer one with the detachable pouch but all others will be considered.
23. I just purchased a Venture tank for my RSTD to get the extra fuel capacity for trips. Is there anything special I need to know to swap it? In the pics, it looks like a direct swap. What do I use for a sealer for the petcock? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. R.
24. I have just completed the test ride after the installation of my aux. fuel tank. All went perfect. Not a problem in sight...or hidden. Of course, I have done this a time or two before, as I have installed aux. fuel tanks on 11 previous bikes, so I kind of have experience doing this. However...this was my first time on a RSTD, so there is always something new...or things to learn. We all know about the stock tank...nothing new there. And if the bike is ridden at a steady and quick pace, it can consume fuel a little faster than I want to have to stop. Therefore...add aux. fuel. The tank I bought is the 5 gallon tank from Tour Tanks. Here is the link to their site: http://www.tourtank.com/TourTanks.html I am 100 % happy with the product, and the additional hardware kit that needs to be bought along with the tank. Everyhting is top notch, no junk here. As you can see by the pictures, I ride a solo bike. In place of the rear seat is a leather rear fender bib, and on top of that is the Yamaha rear fender rack (in place of the rear seat. On top of that rack...I mount a 10" x 18" aluminum rack I got from Aerostich. Then I mounted the Saddlemen bag onto that aluminum rack. All of the leather(fake leather) bag and aluminum rack are through bolted to the yamaha rear fender rack, with 3/8" u-bolts (4 of them) so it is very solid. Then the Tour Tank slides down into the Saddlemen bag...with an extremely snug/tight fit. There is no way that fuel tank is coming out of that Saddlemen bag unless three of us tug with all of our might. The vent hose up next to the filler cap is routed up over the top and far edge of the tank, then down to one of the side pockets of the Saddlemen bag, where I have hidden a catch tank, with secondary vent to the outside of the catch tank. The red petcock on the left side of the solo seat, attached to the yamaha chrome seat rail, works perfectly. I routed the fuel hose to a brass T-fitting that is spliced into the OEM fuel line about 4 inches above where the fuel filter is. The tank I chose from Tour Tank is tank design # 2, meaning it has two exit bungs at the bottom of the tank, one at either end of the bottom of the tank, so that all fuel is drained from the tank, despite cornering. I filled the tank with 2 gallons, filled my regular fuel tank up all the way, then went for a ride. I started out using only the aux. fuel tank, with the main tank turned off at the OEM petcock. The fuel from the aux. tank flowed perfectly, and after 82.7 miles I had used up the two gallongs I put in the aux. fuel tank, and had to switch fuel petcocks on the fly. Simply turned off the aux. fuel tank, and turned on the main fuel petcock, and after a moments hesitation, fuel was flowing again, and zoom... This additional 5 gallon fuel tank "could" give me a total capacity of 10.3 gallons, however I will not fill the aux. fuel tank up all the way, so the max I will put in it is 4 gallons...just to be safe. Even with that additional 4 gallons, I now have a very useable 8.5 gallons, without any concerns for running low. With that capacity, I can run...at speed...for 350 to 400 miles. That is what I am used to, and this will now satisfy my need to go as far as I want to. Take a look at the pictures. If you have any questions, let me know. And to answer the one burning question...my wife rides her own bikes...all set up as solo seat bikes, so I don't need to carry a passenger. Want to give your wife or girlfriend the greatest gift you can...give them the gift of empowerment, by having them ride their own bikes.
25. So here's the deal; my '06 RSV seems to enjoy leaving me on the side of the road once or twice a year, seemingly without a warning of more than a few seconds. There's been no consistency as to when it happens. I'd had it gone through shortly after purchase last year as it wasn't running well. A new ignition coil along with cleaning the carbs seemed to turn everything around. A month later I was leaving work, almost cold engine, and before even leaving the lot it sputtered and died. Only way I could get anything out of it was to use full choke and it would seem like it wanted to run but would die within 30 seconds or so. After about 10 minutes of trying, it started cleanly and ran great. A month later I was in traffic on a somewhat warm day and it started sputtering at a light and stalled when I tried to take off. The tank had about 4 gallons in it at the time but wouldn't restart no matter what I did. Had it flatbedded to my local Yamaha dealer and darn if it didn't start immediately They had no idea what had happened, especially since they had so recently serviced it. 14,000 miles and zero problems later it did it to me again 2 weeks ago! This time it was about 80 degrees and I had just come off an expressway running at 60 mph and it died seconds after waiting at the exit light. Again, it started after many tries with choke on full as if it was getting very little gas and the choke was "keeping a balance" on the A/F ratio, and has run great the almost 1000 miles since. I've run Seafoam through it, checked the plugs and they look great. Any ideas? I never have old gas in the tank as I ride so much. Even in winter the tank is kept full with ethanol formula stabilizer in it.
