  1. Can anyone comment on the site and/or this helmet/Com system ? http://www.aerostich.com/off-and-riding/helmets/nolan-n42-n-com.html
  2. OK need some input here.... 3. Watch all the way to the end... http://biertijd.com/mediaplayer/?itemid=21816
  4. Well then, I spent the day trying out two new "hidden antennas" and end result is that I shall keep my Firestiks on the bike.. The final verdict for me, is that the hidden antenna is a good concept, but its not an improvement over the bike system. Both hidden antennas I tried were amplified, which means you have to run a power lead to the bike system to power it up. No matter where I had positioned the antennas on the bike, (under fairing, inside trunk) or which orientation (up sideways etc) it was about the same result every time. The 36" fire sticks were able to grab more signal consistently better than the hidden antennas. However, if you're looking for a bike without sticks hanging out of the back of the bike, these are indeed a great alternative.. but as my ride buddy told me, a RSV without antennas just doesn't look right.. no matter what.. Interesting though... As per always "your mileage may vary" Cheers
  5. Well I did it again, and this time its a deader.. I went on another Advanced rider's course this evening and once again, I cooked my clutch on the 2006 RSV, so badly that there absolutely nil clutch effect when the clutch lever is released out completely.. I can sit there in first gear, clutch fully out and nothing happening.. in any gear for that matter. wow. This past spring, the same thing happened, and the clutch plates were cooked. I had since replaced the whole thing with new steels and friction plates and everything was fine until tonight. I was careful not to over rev the engine, gentle on the controls etc, and even had a fresh oil change yesterday (dino oil).. but during one of the exercises, the clutch let go completely causing me to lose torque to the rear wheel and dropping the bike (no big deal).. I picked it up, did a run on the side of the course and realized the clutch was slipping completely.. oh oh.. I pulled the bike over and shut it down.. I know I did not hear the rad fan running before shutting it down. When we started a new exercise, I then discovered I could not pull away at all in first or any gear.. oh oh.. oh no. I let the bike cool down for an hour. I tried it again but no dice. I had no clutch what so ever. Now I know there is something not right with the clutch system on the bike causing this premature and unwarranted clutch failures. I'm not over revving the engine, not abusing the clutch. And I practice slow riding a lot on the bike but never had any issues until tonight, but tonight it's more sustained than my usual practice periods. Here's what I did notice: The Clutch reservoir is lower than it was when I started. I do not recall ever hearing the radiator fan ever coming on.. I mention this because the other liquid cooled bikes on the course had their fans humming loudly.. the borrowed bike (1500 nomad) is liquid cooled and its fan roared on several times.. But I do not remember hearing mine to be honest.. So here's what I am wondering.. is it possible I cooked the engine oil and thus the clutch if the bike wasn't being properly cooled when the fan wasn't coming on? Is it possible the master cylinder is pooched causing an issue to prematurely burn out the clutch plates? I have the PCW (sp) heavy duty clutch spring installed and had taken out the half disks and installed a full disk as per their instructions. I had not experience any issues at all this summer on the bike's clutch system until tonight (well over 15,000 miles this summer already) So tomorrow morning the bike is being dropped off at a local shop.. I'll be asking them to change out the clutch master cylinder kit as the current one shows signs of abuse and deterioration etc, perhaps its allowing air to enter the system or clutch fluid to leak out.. I'll get them to flush out the fluid as well. I will be asking them to check the rad cooling system, perhaps there is something amiss causing the bike to overheat, cooking the oil, killing the clutch.. Its not me abusing the hell out of the clutch that is killing it, but something is not right with the bike that when abused, causes a premature failure of the clutch system.. When the smoke clears, I'll let you know what was discovered, if anything, as to what caused all this.. Blargh!!!
  6. sometimes my class system gives me an E1 error and other times it works just fine. any thoughts on whats causing it?
  7. Hi folks ,I have a question,my 1990 venture 1300 has carb problems,as they seem to be running very rich, I am having a lot of problems with plug fouling, and terrible fuel mileage, also at times one or two of the carbs will start puking fuel out of the overflow tubes ,telling me that the floats are stuck or there may be trash in the system. Should I go to the trouble of pulling the carbs(ugh) or trying to clean the system with chemical treatments ie seafoam, the bike also seems to bog down at high rpms...HELP!!! THANKS, Ben.
  8. That 2 wheel combo removal system works pretty slick; thanks to the guy who posted this idea years ago; I finally got a chance to try it out with 2 new tires going on today.
  9. I am not using a laptop or a pc to access VR tonite. My son-in-law has acquired some brand new HP Thin Clients. They are small units that allow you to acess the www without having to worry about viruses or any other of those nasty little pest. They do not have a hard drive so you cannot download anything to it to save it. It is very fast. It has its own operating system and web browser. I am going to try to weasel one out of him if I can. He has about 8 of them for sale and is selling them for $150.00 if anyone is interested.
  10. Greetings all. How does one figure out the maximum Tire Temperature for a monitoring system on a Venture?
  11. I had asked yesterday what the back up fuse work for. Well I finally followed it through the wiring diagram. You will all be happy to know it fuses the audio and cb system. Sure enough without it, no radio or cb. Bob
  12. Here is the basic install of the HID lighting system. Also tossed in a few pics of the Argus Battery Bug location and the future Digital Gauge location. Didnt have enough time to finish it today. Also my new LED lights in the rear....Also the SkyDoc R1 conversion and VMAX splitter along with the SS lines. And the reason why I dont need an alarm system.....
  13. The front suspension on my 89 leaks down slowly---After about a week I notice it's low and have to pump it back up. The Class system seems to work fine--it just looses air pressure over time. Anybody else had this problem?? Frank D.
  14. Well it looks like I am going to have to change the front springs, mine are now leaking. I will probably order the progressive set on here. What I would like to know is I have an air leak they will not hold air for more than a few days. Could this be from the shocks leaking oil or is it going to be part of the air lines? Next question, I see a lot of people parting out bike does anyone have a CLASS system they would like to get rid of. I will need everything because mine has nothing. If I add the CLASS system will I have to change the main wiring harness? Or will I just be able to run a few wires to hook it all up?
  15. Maybe I'm reading things incorrectly, but it seems that the chrome air cleaner covers don't exactly fit with the RSTD system, and require different filters? Anyone had experience with that?
  16. I have been experiencing a weird problem with my 1st gen, and I need some input from the pros . did a full cleaning , flush and rebuild of the system. the clutch is fine , after about 200 miles the clutch pressure builds in the system causing no release (high lever) and clutch slippage, I break open the bleeder and let a little out and I'm back down the road with no slippage. I have rechecked , reblead, and have no leaks. all stock levers and MC. no air in the system. any Ideas guys ?. to me it seams like a venting problem ? any one else ever have this ?
  17. My Bike, being an 83 Standard, did not have the factory intercom or CB, and I picked up an Autocom Active Duo system last year from a friend who hardly ever used it. The intercom works flawlessly, and as well as connecting the MP3 player and cell phone, with seamless VOX operation for both driver and passenger. The Autocom has an additional Aux 4 connection for bike-to-bike communication, primarily for CB or other radio. The standard VOX operation applies to the CB as well, which is a bit of a pain, as the driver and passenger would be merrily sharing their conversation with everyone within CB range. Acknowledging in hindsight that this may be inconvenient, Autocom offered optional Push to Talk (PTT) cables for a fee. Long story short – as I have used it so far, my system works wonderfully and I am very happy with it, but I would now like to connect a CB for bike-to-bike... primarily so Marcarl can let me know when the next coffee/ice cream stop is coming up. The crux is that Autocom seems to have temporarily suspended business while new ownership takes over and their days of creating custom cables tailored to the specific CB (or other) radio you wish to connect to are over. However, how hard can it be ? I have the pinouts for the Aux 4 connection from the Autocom system, and I have the pinouts from the mic connection from the Uniden 510XL CB that I wish to use. The Uniden uses the mic button to switch the radio from “Receive” to “Transmit”, so I am thinking I need a Double Pole, Double Throw Push button to select between the two (using the COMMON or Screen), with Receive being the Normal position. The VOX on the Autocom should take care of providing the input from my headset to the MIC OUT pin which needs to go to the MIC pin on the CB. The CB has a connection for an external speaker at the rear... a 2.5 mm jack, which I need to connect to the SPEAKER IN on the Autocom. Can I do this ? At first glance, 2 output wires cannot both go to one pin. However, if one is a common or ground, then I only need to determine the hot wire, and connect it to the SPEAKER IN, correct ? Secondly, if the output of the CB through that jack is 7 watts, is there anything I can do to limit that so that the Autocom system does not get overloaded ? Sorry for not providing a wiring diagram but electrical drawings are not my forte... I can usually read them, but creating them is a whole other issue. Any input/advice would be greatly welcomed.
  18. I have an 88 venture with no radio/CB/intercom and would really like to have them. Does anyone know how hard it would be to install them or does anyone know of an aftermarket system I could get. I would like to have all three of them. I see a lot of people junking out bikes does anyone have a complete system they would like to sell?
  19. I just spent a couple of hours in the garage doing various things (first time I have been able to do that in a couple of months, boy was it nice); One of which was changing the coolant (and flushing the system, replacing those stupid little rubber plugs). I read over the article in the Tech section and it made changing the coolant a breeze. The coke bottle method worked great except for the front left cylinder which Pheonex had warned it wouldn't work. But an old T-shirt did the trick So, just wanted to say thanks for that great write up. Don: thanks to you for keeping this place up and running. For those of you that haven't done this yet, I think the hardest part was refilling the coolant slow enough so that it didn't come up and out of the filler opening. Me, being impatient, had a few spills. Luckily it was just distilled water that I spilled (I got some practice since I flushed the system twice).
  20. Hello all. New to the site so be kind. I'm looking to mount kuryakyn driving lights to the fender of my 06 venture. My question is will the electrical system handle the addition of two 35 watt bulbs ? I'm also looking to change the bulbs to yellow; unfortunately they only sell yellow H3 bulbs in 55 watts. Will the system handle the two 55 watt bulbs? The only additions to the system that I have are the OEM passing lights and a GPS, although I don't think the GPS is a major issue.
  21. I just bought an 83 Venture Royal. She is a beauty. I picked up a Cyclecomm cb system for it from Ebay. I am missing the 6 pin dim cable to connect it to the amplifier and some other connecting hardware. I bought an antenna combiner for it as well. Can anyone help me with this. I have done all the research on Cyclecomm and Airrider.Airrider cannot help me either.Any help would be great. Thanks all, I also wanted to add the bike has a working radio intercomm system. I am just trying to install this cb system to my bike. Thanks for any help, Ray
  22. I friend of a friend who just purchased an 83 VR and the CLASS air system works fine in the rear, but does not work at all in the front.. I told him to check the solders in the CLASS system, and he said it does not appear that there are any cracks in the solder..I thought he may have missed some, but might there be any other reasons Thanks, Clay
  23. I have a 2000 Venture with pretty messed up headsets. I've been looking at my options and believe a bluetooth system would be a better choice. I was wondering if anyone has just completely scrapped the RSV audio system radio/cb/intercom/cassette (removed the components) and just started over with a GPS/IPOD/Bluetooth system. I would really like to get some other ideas before i do anything drastic. I definetely want a GPS and haven't used the CB at all. What are some of your ideas/solutions? Thanks Howard
  24. I commute on the bike and am off and on several times a day. I find the headset cord a pain and I go through a couple of them a year. Does anyone make a bluetooth system that would work with the existing radio system? I'm thinking of something like a bluetooth transmitter dongle that could plug into the bike's original headset connector and a reciever that would mount in helmet. I would like to eliminate the headset cord. Maybe I should patent that idea! Dennis
  25. I don't know if anyone else was a fan of this product,..... but the magic word there is "was". I have been having a hard time finding the refill soap, so I contacted P&G and just got back a letter stating they are discontinuing the product. So, if you use Mr Clean car wash system, run out quick and score all the soap and sponges you can, while they are on the shelf. Wait till I tell the wife, she is always on me for "washing the bike again!", obviously I didnt do it enough.... if they're discontinuing the brand!! Dam, and that system worked SOOO well too!
