  1. Hey all: have RK slip ons from an 08 roadking. Totally gutted them out including catalytic converter drilled out. Then right after installing them I changed plugs and then the popping on deceleration began. Also would pop when shifting up from 1st to 2nd. Well to make a a long story short had a carb sync done today and guess what, they were off and that has fixed the problem. No more popping and pipes sound great, really roar when getting on them. I do not have the AIS plugged. So for all that may be having popping issues, try to get a carb sync and should fix your problem. Oh, I have an 07 Midnight RSV with 11, 000 miles on her. Brian D.
  2. Need to sync the carbs on my 84 Venture. A friend of mine says he can sync them using 4 seperate vacuum guages http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoTools/MultiTesters/PRD~0251039P/Pro%2BVacuum-Pressure%2BTester.jsp (haven't bought them yet). This is more convenient then a Carbtune since I can find them locally. My question is how accurate will this be compared to carbtune or syncpro?
  3. Seems there might be some Afro Engineering (or is it Redneck) going on here. What are the funnels (for lack of a better/correct term) Seems like they are not seated correctly on the left side?? Would that make a difference in performance? Should I worry about it? Now that my head gaskets have been replaced it seems like I have less pep/get up and go! Could this be related to a carb issue (air filter doesn't look bad but will probably replace) Do i need to look at a carb sync? If so is there someone within say +/- 100 miles who could (and would) help? btw. fuel is still running around 40 See what else I can find! Thanks,
  4. Borrowed a Carbtune from VR member Magnum and did a sync tonight. Once I figured out (read the post properly) that I had to do the initial sync-ing from the right side of the bike THEN the left side, it was a piece of cake. I did not have a tach, so I sync-ed the carbs all to 240mmHg. Bike was idling fine, but I tweaked it down a little to bring the carbs up to about 260mmHg. Thanks to Freebird and Kbran to the great posts in the Tech section. Bronson
  5. My wife's cousin just bought a beautiful 1st gen Blondie (mkII) and we did a carb sync on it last night. When I went to attach the Carbtune, the vacuum hose rather than attaching directly to the #2 cyl was split and connected to both #1 & #2. On the other side, there was a piece of hose that connected #3 & #4 together. It surprised me a bit? We synced it up and then put it back as we found it. What effect, if any will this set up have on the operation? Should he put it back to stock? Curious! Dave
  6. Hi guys n gals: I'm thinking of getting the Zumo 550 and am also considering an iPhone. Has anyone got this combo? Does the iPhone Bluetooth sync up with the Zumo? Can you answer a call if you need to? Wayne
  7. It seems like the answer to every engine question on this forum is either "carb sync" or "Sea Foam". My bike is running fine, but at certain speeds/RPMs it seems kinda buzzy for lack of a better word, and I can feel a vibration in the handlebars. I think it should be smoother. I was wondering if there is a kind soul in the Knoxville area who has experience with syncing carbs and wouldn't mind helping me do mine.
  8. I went to Bummer's house yesterday and he helped me sync my carbs(Thank you Bummer). We weren't actually able to sync them all though because the right front carb had no vacuum on the carbtune. We evened out the other three and adjusted the idle and it runs better than before but still cuts out sometimes. I checked the diaphram and it looks good. The cylinder is still firing at least sometimes because if I pull that plug wire off the is a difference in the idle. Any suggestions on where to start looking?
  9. A buddy of mine is out of work and is exchanging some carpentry work for motorcycle repair. I hope he is a better carpenter than I am a mechanic. I am hoping someone knows something about this bike since I cannot seem to find a good forum for these. My friend took his '84 Magna 700 out of storage yesterday and could not get it to run without the choke on. If the choke is released, it just dies. It ran fine when it was put away last fall. We do not have a repair manual for the Magna. So far, we changed the plugs, drained the bowls (gas looked good, no gunk), cleaned the air filter, and fixed a few unrelated wiring issues (stator connector was completely cooked). Of the old plugs that were removed, 3 looked OK, one (front right) was wet. I was not able to find mixture adjustment screws to see if they were out of whack. Questions: 1) It appears there are sync adjustments on the linkage between the carbs. 2 between the front 2 carbs, and one between the rears. Is that what these screws are? I assume the rear right carb is the 'master' that the other 3 sync to - is this correct? 2) If these are the sync adjustments, where do I hook up the vacuum gage to measure the relative vacuum? I have a Morgan Carbtune that will read 4 carbs at once. 3) What would cause the bike to run while under choke, and die immediately when choke is removed? We ran it long enough to warm up. 4) How do you adjust the mixture in the carbs? Thanks for your help. So far, I find the Magna to be an interesting bike with some very nice design features (love the hinged gas tank with the support rod). RR
  10. This will be my first time to Dons and not knowing all about it,- will tire changing be available? No big deal if not. I really just want to meet everyone and get a sync done on the VR. What time should we show up and what to bring? Im willing to jump in and help!
  11. Looks like the weather is finally going to line out a little so if there is any interest, I will host a day at my house to sync carbs etc. I have a carbtune and will make room so we can sync the carbs with the bike parked inside. I will put May 2 on my calendar. Let me know.

    Carb sync

Kevin (AKRefugee) came by the house today and we did carb sync using my old carb sticks. Neither one was too far off but our bikes are smoother now. Nice to see a MM and 2006 next to each other. I had a good day. Thanks Kevin ride safe Rod
  13. Is there anyone here in the Northern Va area that is good at working on the Yamaha's? I'm leery of the local shops and would like to find someone to help with some things. Carb sync and things such as that. I'm willing to pay if you're available.
  14. just wanted to say thanks to slick97spirt for the carb sync he did on my bike last night. when we started it looked bad but after he hooked it up and adjusted it looked good on the tool and when i drove it home it sounded so much smoother. so again thanks Ken for your help.
  15. What is the difference syncing a 1st gen Tour deluxe and a 2nd Gen?? I have a friend who wants me to sync his bike
  16. Is there anyone within 150 miles of Many La. that can or will do a carb sync. I don't mind paying to have it done. I just don't trust our local dealers to do it right. PS Many is located apprx 60 miles south of Shreveport. 06 RSTD.
  17. Had my 06 RSTD in to the local Yamaha dealer last week for the 1000 KM warranty service (bought the bike new last fall). They did a valve adjustment and a carb sync as specified in the owners manual. On the way home after picking the bike up I noticed I was getting an intermittent popping noise coming from the right side exhaust at idle. The bike ran fine otherwise at higher rpm's. This persisted for a couple of days then just after I called the dealer about the problem and was going to take the bike back to them it suddenly disappeared on it's own. Can anyone tell me if this would have been a valve timing issue or a carb sync issue? Since it has now stopped should I still be thinking about taking the bike back to the dealer?
  18. Any one close to cincinnati have the tools to do a carb sync for me? i am willing to pay just dont want to go to a dealership to have it done. thanks Ron
  19. On a ride the other day I noticed a vibration when under power. If I pulled in the clutch at speed, the bike was very smooth. I figured that before I started down the mechanical road, such as checking the u-joint, I would check the carb sync. After a ride to get it up to temp, I shut it off and hooked up my four tube mercury sync tool. I started it up and it was slightly off so I tweaked it a little and my idle got a little smoother. One of the things I also do is bring the bike up to about 3000 rpm's and see how close they are at that point using the throttle lock to hold rpm's. I noticed this time that I had a bit of difference from carb to carb. I adjusted to bring them back even, but when I brought it back down to idle, I was off a little again. I have not checked my diaphrams yet and am planning on replacing them but I was wondering if anyone else runs their engine to a higher rpm when syncing carbs. You just need to bring the the rpm's slowly down to idle if you are using a mercury sync or it will suck the mercury into the carbs. RandyA
  20. By the end of this week, I will have 20k miles on my 2007 RSV. Time to do some maint.: oil, plugs, carb sync (once I find tool to borrow). I might even change the air in the tires, LOL
  21. Hi, I was visiting the 'other' Venture Site looking for more info and tips on those great 1st Gen's when I came across a post with this great, economically priced Carb Sync Tool. It's a 4 tube Mercury (OMG!) manometer, selling for $55. I ordered one so I can get my '90 model running a little better. I've attached the link for all to see. Thanks to all for all I've learned about these great cycles! Cheers, Joe in Sunny Chandler, AZ http://www.saber-cycle.com/store/product32.html http://www.saber-cycle.com/store/product32.html
  22. I have read tons of threads on carb syncing but I cant find any of the threads that people have been talking about that are carbtune howto's or guides. Anyone have the links on how to use the carbtune or sync carbs on a 1st gen?
  23. a friend just acquired an 1100 kawasaki. it is in desperate need of a carb sync. can anyone tell me the procedure, and WHICH carb is #1? thanks in advance. just jt:scratchchin:
  24. I'm going to buy a new sync tool and I can't decide if I want a SycnPro or a four gauge system. Please send out some opinions of both. Thanks.
  25. I got too rough with the carb sync screw for #3 and stripped it out. I was looking at the parts fiche on Flatout but can't seem to identify the screw I need. Anyone know the part number or the screw size I need? Thanks. Carl
