This may have been asked and answered already but I can't find it. When I plug in my headset, listening to the radio, MP3, whatever, my mike is always open. I get outside noise, if I cough, hum, or sing with the music, I hear it through my headset. Is this normal? Is the mike supposed to be open all the time? When my wife is with me and hooked up, both our mikes remain open. Mmmm, got to be carefull thinking out loud Thanks. Looking forward to your replies.

Hi y'all! Newbie here again and I've got yet another stoopid question. Where's the stinkin' tool kit supposed to be hidden on my '84 Venture Royale? I suspect it's supposed to be in the bottom of one of the saddlebags and the safety chain in the other. I have nothing in either bag and trying to find out where it's supposed to be in the owner's manual is proving to be a fruitless search. Now the next part of this stoopid question is, if in fact my original tool kit is missing (I bought the bike used), was it ever really worth having in the first place? The bikes of my youth were always equiped with tool kits that contained things that resembled tools and could sometimes be used as such if the user was frustrated enough. My thinking is to make a new tool fit containing a universal screwdriver and a small pair of vise grips.

My question is.......Can I take the plastic off my 83 VR and take it all to a regular auto body shop and get it painted? Is there any difference in having them paint it or is there some special motorcycle paint out there that is supposed to be used?

I went with Sharon to the store today...not optional, so was looking around at Wally's for bike stuff. I washed my all black scoot on a freaky 68* last Monday. Since wax melts off around here whenever scoot is in the sun, I looked at alternatives. This is the 5th black scoot I've had in a row & I'm real tired of constant cleaning + waxing. Most 'wax' goes on 'white'....and I really don't like that, either. Today, I got some Polymer Protective Coating, made by "Mothers" & is called FX or FK...can't tell, but it's CLEAR & supposed to be way better than wax. Cost about $6. for ~10 oz of clear liquid. Not supposed to melt away on a sunny day or leave any white spots. Sure looks good. Can't be any more useless than wax. Anyone know about this stuff??

I was driving through Clay City, KY today on my way to visit a customer when I saw a black 2002 Midnight RSV parked at a store. I stopped and "stalked" the owner. Very nice gentleman and he is supposed to come by and visit us here at VentureRider. So...if you see a new member join up from Kentucky, give him a big welcome.

Hey, checking air in tires yesturday and just above the rim on Rear Tire all around it, there are cracks. Wide enough to put a finger nail in and some as long as 4". Last year I put on these Avons (Great Tires) and have 8000 miles. Tread is still excellent, but these cracks have me greatly conserned as I am supposed to leave tommorow on a trip for three weeks. Just wondering has anyone else had this problem and Are They Safe? Is this a Tire Defect? Thanks-

headset location and info for first gen venture royale
wannabees posted a topic in General Tech Talk
hey i have a 84 venture royale, i got it a year ago and over the winter have been tryin to understand it. the diagram in my shop manuel says there is supposed to be a headfone jack. where is this located and what does the intercom button do? is this a part of the head set thig? -
The RSTD handle bar has a nut pressed inside the bars. I guess it's pressed in... I don't see any screw, brad or weld marks on the bar. Are they supposed to stick out like that (about 3/16")? The way the weight is machined, it looks like it should fit inside the bar about 1/8", with the weight flush to the bar. Instead, there is 3/16" gap. These are bars and weights for an '05 RSTD. If they are supposed to be that way, no problem... it just looks funny. If they are supposed to fit flush, I'll see if I can 'press' the nuts in a little more.

I was told that you could use mufflers from a hd road king on a venture. they are supposed to bolt right on for a little more sound. is that true? if so hows the sound?

I've bought some coils on e-bay. They are supposed to be off of a 89 venture. My problem is these coils have all the same color wires coming out of them. Red with a white stripe and a orange wire. In the wiring diagram there is supposed to be a different colored wire from every coil. Have I been taken? Are these coils off of a 89 venture?

I just took my battery out and for the first time I noticed what appears to be a solid rubber hose, 1/2" in diameter, hook shaped, with a pin hole in the end of it. This is just to the right of the battery (by negative). Anybody know what this is and if it's supposed to be attached to anything? Thanks for any info.

I took my ignition out to let the local dealer rekey the lock. I got it back today and went to install it over lunch and got a big surprise the ignition no longer works. I figure I had to have screwed somthing up so I got some picts and am asking for help. Pict 1 is the contacts that the ignition is supposed to set up against. Pict 2 is the way "I Think" the washer/contact plate is supposed to go in. My issue is that the little pin that the arrow is pointing to looks like it is supposed to make contact with the inner set of contacts on pict 1 but the pin does not stick out far enough to make contact. What am I doing wrong:confused24: I am stuck. ANY insight would be helpful.

Isn't there supposed to be a dot on the side of a tire indicating the light side of the tire that is supposed to be put next to the valve stem? I just ordered some Avons through SWMoto and they don't have any such dot. Now what? How should these be mounted?
