  2. Ok, we got a set of rebuilt calipers, put them on and after a few hours of fiddling with them got a little pressure in the handle and foot pedal, now I wouldvecpect with new calipers that the pull should get very hard quickly, they don't as a matter of fact the front brake will slow uou down a little but will not stop you (I would hate to try and make a quick stop with s car in front of me ) anyways the back brake and front are a little better but not much, any ideas? Feels real spongy, I've never worked on a linked brake system and my first thought is this system sucks! Could someone post some instructions? It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  3. eck i dont know your friend who says that i would sucker punch ya? so that being said. i will most likey never attend any meetings? i dont want troubble and i dont go looking for any. so that being said and done i wish all of you the best. and i will just slowly fade away. good luck fellow venture ridders. keep them up on 2 wheels. and i will make sure to wave if i see one of ya on the road. if broke down i will allways stop. oldgoat
  4. We are planning on being in Oberlin for Maint. day this year. After we are taking the week off to ride on over to Va. and ride Shenandoah Valley down Blueridge Parkway, to Smokies, maybe down into Alabama. Any suggestions on where to stop, eat, places to see ????:confused24:Look forward to seeing and riding with some of the members from those areas.
  5. Anyone near Richmond, VA want to ride???? I am riding again today, just like yesterday. Today I am looking for some company. Meetup is at the McDonalds on Patterson Ave. West of Parham Rd. in the shopping center. Day is today. Time is 12:30PM The ride is to go west on Patterson (Rte6) to 522... then North on Rte522 on 522 - maybe stop for ice cream - see the Iron Steer with flags on it's horns! stay on 522 till Rte33 east on 33 till we decide to stop for a coffee at McDonalds or similar... I have one rider going so far... Wow 2 people! Normally when I set up a ride, I'm the only one.http://img1.meetupstatic.com/img/smileys/biggrin.gif This may be the last chance to ride this year in the Richmond area???? If you can make it, but you think you will be a little late, call me 804-338-3451 johnb
  6. I am a little concerned that some of the posts righting that the stoping distance are based on the tyres. My thought is that your stopping distance is based on not on your tyres, but the weight the tyres are carrying and the condition of the road at the time you knead to stop. I am one not to skid my tyres to stop the flat spot it crates is not one I want. The tyres I bye are for handling and distance do you agree.
  7. Well I'm done with the rain, unfortunately it isn't done with me. It's been raining all day and it's not gonna stop till friday morning. It's what was left of Ida but now it's turning into a nor'easter. They are saying on the weather channel we could get up towards 11" of rain. I'm kinda hoping not that much and just the little ole 8" the local folks are saying. I'm suppose to go to Riderdukes house tomorrow and ride down to George and Bobbie's on friday. The winds are gonna get bad too. If this thing had a butt I'd kick it out of here. We're under a flood watch till friday morning, also the wind advisory till friday. All this rain isn't gonna make it easy to get around. I don't like the wind with the rain it kinda freaks me out with the trees around here. I already have some branches down but there in spots I don't have to worry about moving them for a bit. Plus not sure we'll have power through all this. Sorry for running on but I just want this stuff to go away. I want to go to a meet this weekend where it won't be raining. Margaret
  8. Any one heard from Lowell?? Not sure if he made it back from Denver or not, but I am sitting in a Hotel in Bossier City LA, and was gonna stop by and say Howdy on my way home this next week.....
  9. new 09 RSV-S with about 1000 miles on it. I will write up my first impressions in a later post but first I have this question. My gas cap and gas tank get to the point of being so hot it would almost burn my hand. is this the way they are?? does not seem right! I am not talking about it setting in the sun, I am talking about when driving it either back roads (not stop and go but hills and twisties) or in town stop and go. air temp above 90 degrees F. Thanks Jerry
  10. My 2006 Midnight Venture just turned over 50,000 miles on this recent road trip and I experienced the BEST gas mileage ever on a tank of gas!! wow.. I road for close to 150 miles before pulling over for fuel at a regular fuel stop and pumped in 12 litres of fuel.. 56.8 MPG Imperial and 47.3 MPG US 70 mph in 5th with all tail winds made a huge diff.. Big beautiful day, 5 hours of traveling to do and I just decided to roll softly.. and was surprised at the mileage.. albeit boring After that fuel stop I slammed it in 4th and rolled with the fast traffic to get home the rest of way hehe.. amazing.. the fuel mileage was significantly worse on the last leg
  11. It is with deep respect that I tattle tail. I assume "some" responsibility for an incident. I invited Bubber to stop by my place this morning on the way to P.I.P just to wish him and his lovely wife safe travel mercies. After some playful jabbing at me about not going to P.I.P. and me tap dancing around the issue, I bid them farewell. Steve rolled to the end of my driveway, started to make a left on the hwy, stalled and in S---L---O---W...motion "gently" laid his RSV on it's left side as his lovely rider made and extraordinary ballet exit from the rear. Being only 4ft 11 7/8 and possibly 90lb wet she landed flatfooted, hands on hips staring at an impossible mountain of metal needing to be lifted off Steve. I, standing 30 yards up my driveway immediately went into "dash", this is not easy for senior citizen! By the time I reached the "pile" I'm outta gas, but, second wind and an extraordinary effort by a pint sized woman, we righted the bike, "rescued" a trapped Steve, made sure his foot was still attached and that his feelings were not too wounded.....A bit embarrassed he's fine. I respectfully told him I felt it was my duty to post. I guess if I had not invited him to stop by, he might not have fallen over..............ya'all be nice to him now:parrots: RENNE
  12. Hey Boss! I must have push, toggled, set, bent, folded or mutilated a setting along the way because every post I make is automatically subscribed to. HOW CAN I STOP THIS????? I have looked how to cancel but I can't find what I did or how to stop it. How about a little education for a dunce in this department. Much appreciated! Thanks in advance Bubber
  13. Just short reminder that we are only 12 days away from the 2009 Pork in the Pines Pig Roast. www.porkinthepines.com Also, for the first times. While Gary's postal address is LaPorte, MN you actually need to go a few miles west of there to Konabec Corner. Well, actually if you get to the stop sign at Konebec Corner, you have already passed Gary's place. He should have the big orange banner out again this year to help guide everyone in. And for those really interested, the VenureRanger will be on site. So, see y'all there.
  14. does anyone have an extra speedometer for an 83 venture? and if so how much?? if i take mine out and grease around the shaft, will the noise stop.. thefirst time that it made noise, i thought that it was the wheel bearing.. but it turned out to be the speedo..
  15. I know it's been said many time on here, but I would not feel right it I did not give Rick Kudos for working on my seat. We just returned from the international rally on Sunday (we took an extra week in Hot Springs) and there is no way I could have made that trip before getting my seat worked on. 16 days and 3,600 miles in all. I know that is not a lot for some people, but before getting the seat worked I had a hard time riding gas stop to gas stop. I would have to say that is now my favorite mod since getting the RSV 2 years ago. Also, it is probably the cheapest!
  16. I have the engine wine at medium speed and higher I put up with it cause I was on a harley.... But I do notice that when I put on the front brake I get a noise mostly when I come to a complete stop and I squeeze a little harder.. Does anyone else have this problum RonaldE:12101:
  17. Got call last night from son that wife and sister was in accident. Got to hospital and was told she was fine but with multiple bumps ,bruises, seat belt rash etc, sister in law has dislocated ankle and arm is spattered with glass cuts etc.. Was hit on passenger front wheel by 17yr old running stop-sign then car came around and slammed passenger side in ,then pushed her sideways about 50-60 feet thru corn-field before stopping.Lucky we had side air-bags(Mitsubishi Outlander sport-utility) Saw it in the dark at impound so it was hard to see but passenger side is wiped out, will post pictures as soon as I can. Of course wife gave me heck for leaving work and wasn't going to call me at 9:00pm break to tell me to stay at work(accident around 4-5pm) Both women are pretty sore this morning and sister in law is hobbling around on crutches. Have to go to insurance for coverage and rental car etc. Kid was on gravel road and was only charged with failing to stop at sign with $150 fine and 3 points. Police said he tried to stop but brother in law said he only seen marks on pavement around impact site and not in gravel where they said. O-WELL what can you do they said he talked with Sargent and he agreed.(will see myself today)
  18. I had to let you guys see this. This is me and my dad. As we were leaving Home Depot the other day a man on an Ultra Classic stop me and asked, "What......you guys couldn't get ladder racks with those bikes?" I just smiled and rode off. I figured afterward I would take a pic and let you guys see.
  19. I still have 83-93 fork braces left over from the last group buy. Anyone interested? If not, I guess the next stop will be Ebay. Here's a link to the ad in the classifieds. FORK BRACE
  20. July 2009, Saturday PM Gas: Otis, Grand Ronde. No construction, but with everyone and their mother trying to get out of the heat in Portland, there was a HUGE backup starting ~6 miles from the US 101 junction. This was true stop and go, with more stop than go. Try to time your run to the coast on Sun - Thur or early morning. Road in good condition with well marked sweepers, increasing in number the closer you get to the coast. Passing lanes provided in the several places. Intermittent townage with the usual reduced speed zones.
  21. Why do some riders "bleep" the throttle (quick snaps of the wrist... "blatt blatt blatt") when sitting at a stop light -or- when starting to take off -or- when slowing down to a stop (not changing gears) -or- when slowly moving forward in stop & go traffic, etc etc??? I see no real purpose for this at all...maybe someone can educate me here. Or are these riders just not "educated" about this....what do they feel is being accomplished???
  22. I have a 99 2nd generation and about a month ago I was riding in some of the hills of West Va and it almost felt like the power was not up to par. Then I convinced myself, yep it's fine. Then I noticed one other time that going up a hill it just seemed down on power since I had to roll the throttle all the way up and it was slowly picking speed. I'm thinking, was the hill steeper than I thought. Once again I convinced myself after a few miles all was good. Mileage is still the same so no change there. Last week I ran it up to about 95 on the interstate with no problems. Yesterday the wife and I went for a ride about a 130 miles in the ride I noticed it felt like it was running out of gas and it was about due so I switched to reserve. Stop at the next exit and as I was taking off from the stop sign it felt like there was not enough fuel going to the carb's. Like I was trying to take off in second. I fueled up and switched back to normal. As we got back on the interstate I noticed it did not have the power that it should. No doubt about it this time. It was not missing and appeared and felt like all cylinders were firing. Up and over a mountain on the interstate in slowed down to about 55 mph and that's all she would do. On that mountain I would normally be at 70 or better going over the top with more throttle. I headed back to the house and figured when I got home, first thing to try was see how much gas was coming through the line and see if the fuel pump was running. For the 100 or so miles home the bike ran fine just did not have the power. It did backfire through the exhaust as I slowed down at several stop signs and I was figuring it was not getting the proper fuel. About 5 miles before the house my wife said it's running better isn't it. Yep, sure is. Get home and all is good. Ran it through the gears and no problems. Not sure where to start since no lights or anything. Now the bike is fine until it happens again. Question, has anyone had this happen before? If the pump was to quit working any idea what systoms you would get? Would it quit all together or would gravity give enough fuel to make it run and act like low power. As usual, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Spotsy
  23. Howdy folks: I am planning a ride from Lubbock, TX to Brighton, MI beginning on 24-July (possibly the 25th depending on weather). I will depart Lubbock around 4am ride East to Wichita Falls, then hop on I-44 north to I-35, continue up through Wichita, KS and probably stop in Emporia, KS (about 1/2 between Wichita and Kansas City) for the evening. 25-July: Next day I will continue up I-35 up through Des Moines where I will pick up I-80 and continue East until arriving in Davinport, IA, where I will be staying the night. (A good friend of mine lives there, and they are not too far out of the way). 26-July: Leaving Davinport, I will then be able to take my time to putter across Northern Illinois to end up in Spring Grove, IL or Gurnee. I will be there for 1-2 days visiting my newest nephew (who is about 3 weeks old) and Also give my neice her first motorcycle ride! 28 or 29 -July: Depart Spring Grove/Gurnee and head for Brighton, MI via I-94 (probably take the Tri-state (294) around chicago - but we'll see when I get there). I'll stay on I-94 Until Battle Creek, where I'll shoot up I-69 to Lansing (With a stop in Mason to drop off my passenger) Then on to Brighton. I will be in Brighton, Walled Lake, Clarkston, Mason, Jonesville and various other places for that week. I will start my ride back to Texas sometime between the 4th and the 8th. I'm hoping to be able to stop in Marble Falls, AR for a day or 2 of the rally, but I am not sure what my schedule is going to be like while I'm up in Michigan (I will be with some family that is only doing so-so and they are the main purpose of my trip. So depending on what happens, I may or may not swing through AR). As for the details of my return trip, I have not decided. It will largly depend on how much time I will have to come back. I may go south through Nashville (visit some more family) then putter on over to Marble Falls, or I may need to just take the most direct route possible home... We'll see -- I'll be taking it a day at a time. ANYWAYS, I wouldn't argue with some company through various parts if you wanted to meet up or whatever just let me know. Hope to see you all in August at the Hub! Gdspeed - Rick M.
  24. Hi guys! Just bought a couple IMC hsg35u's per recommendation in this forum. Very impressed with how well they work and how good they sound, especially for the $. I'm trying to figure is there any way to stop the radio from muting/turn down when we talk. We're both musicians and are constantly singing. Surely there must be an attenuation pot somewhere. Any ideas? Thanks!
  25. Wife and I were out last weekend going on a round trip ride of about 100 miles. We were at a red light at an intersection near our place shortly after leaving the house. The light turned green and I started out to make a left turn. I noticed a car coming from the left on the crossing street and figured it would stop. Luckily I kept my eye on the car as it went through the red light and intersection at about 40 mph (speed limit is 35). I hit the brakes; my wife who didn't see the car, slid forward and our helmets hit. We came to a stop about 20 feet from where we would have been clobbered. The driver appeared to be an old man who must have been startled when he saw me start out as he was looking up at the light as he went through to see what color it was. We did our trip, but I was much more careful at interesctions than I normally am, and I am normally pretty careful. Too bad no cops around then. Not all elderly drivers are bad drivers, but there are a lot of people on the road who shouldn't be there anymore. We were lucky that day. Be careful out there!!!
