  1. Heading out for Phoenix in the morning - will probably stop tomorrow night somewhere between Capitan and Socorro NM. I know, I know - that means either Capitan, Carrizozo, or Socorro - there ain't nothin else! If anyone is around to say hi, give me a shout; cell number is Eight One Seven - nine three nine - nine one five five. Will be coming back on the 18th, so if you're in the area but tomorrow doesn't work, maybe then? On the way back, I'll probably stop somewhere between Capitan and Lubbock. Anybody in Phoenix wanna have a beer? I'll be there Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Goose
  2. Got a question about the fuel tank on my '91 VR. The problem is I don't have the owner's manual. I'm rather anal about performance and I'd really like to know what I'm getting for fuel mileage. To do that I need to keep an accurate tally of how many gallons I pump, but I can't do that if I don't know when the tank is actually "Full." For example, I can "fill up," stop pumping, and then watch the fuel level drop slowly. Another squirt and I get the same thing. I know there is an over flow tank involved here, but I have no idea when to stop pumping gas. FWIW, I filled up last night and the bike is getting approximately (Oh how I HATE that word....) 33 MPG around town. This is riding 2-up with a Voyager Kit.... Any help will be greatly appreciated
  3. With Annie and Al being here Friday afternoon and night, maybe we can grill some burgers and visit. So, if anyone would like to stop by, you are welcome. And, I will have an extra bedroom that can be available also if anyone else wants to stop by on the way to Asheville. This is kind of short notice, so we will just see what we can throw together. RandyA
  4. Is there ever any Maintenance Days in the Southern California Area? While I have been riding for many years, I am new to the RSV and am looking to learn. Also where can I find a book style manual for my 06 RSV? I have only been able to find a CD version and the books stop at 04. Any assistance with all of these questions would be greatly appreciated. Mongo
  5. I saw this on another site, and it looked like fun. Since we are all riding now, and seeing all the sites. When you come across a tank, stop and get a pic of your bike with one. I was going through Redfield SD yesterday and I came across this one....
  6. What a fun day riding to the SC Railroad Museum today! Even though it was hot, the train ride was awesome! Of course, we had to stop at DQ for a cool refreshment afterwards! http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic/2011/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic%20201106116%20SC%20Railroad%20Museum/
  7. I need someone in the Hendersonville Tn. area to look at a BMW Z3 for me, be happy to buy your gas and a DQ stop in the process. Thanks
  8. Last July we buried my mother in law. About a week later, some old friends of ours lost their 14 year old son to a gun accident. He was a good kid, and had many friends. The funeral was huge. Fast forward to April 27th of this year, and we had roughly a dozen tornadoes touch down in our area in a single night, including two EF-4's. Everybody here knows someone that was affected. Chad and Edwienna, Logan's parents, and Billy Jack, a long time local tattoo artist, came up with the idea of a poker run to both memorialize Logan and benefit a family that lost everything in the Glade Spring, VA EF-4 tornado. They did it on short notice, only two weeks, and were able to get over 100 bikes to come out for the ride. At the end of the day they were able to present the benefit family with over $2000 in much needed cash. Everybody had a good time, and all bikes made the ride with both wheels down (except for one parking lot drop when a divot in the asphalt caught a front tire - no damage, though). http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00501.jpg (some of the bikes gathering at Billy Jack's Tattoos before the ride) http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00507.jpg (Panoramic shot of the first stop. We lost 15 Patriot Guard riders here. They had to attend a brother's funeral) http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00508.jpg (Second stop) http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00511.jpg (Pic of the third stop at the local biker bar - this ended up being the longest stop... http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00502.jpg (Just really liked this bike. Rider's son is disabled and in a wheel chair. He had a rack for the chair on the other side.) The wife has always been against motorcycles, and has always pretty much hated that I ride. I'm not sure how, but Edwienna talked her into making this run with us. We went out last week and picked out a helmet for her, and I took her for a short ride on Saturday to let her get a feel for it. Then she made the entire ride with me yesterday. She had a blast! She was amazed by the number of bikes, and really liked it when she realized that bikers make their own damn rules. She thought that it was awesome that we had road guards who would fall out and block traffic at intersections, and the looks on peoples faces when over 100 Harleys rode past. If you think one HD is loud, try 100+ in a line a half a mile long! http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00503.jpg (The wife waiting for the ride to begin. See her pretty pink-flamed helmet on the seat? She insists on calling it a "bucket.") I think she is hooked http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00512.jpg (Had to include a pic of my bike for good measure)
  9. Does anyone else out there have a second gen venture that souds like a city bus coming to a stop, if so what can be done to quiet the frront brakes ? Thanks for your help
  10. Well, I managed to find a nice harley rear light unit off Ebay. Got the item and now for the wiring. I find that this unit has 1157 bulbs which of course means stop and running lights. The wires are only marked in the manner noted below. One is copper and the other is aluminum? Its silver anyway. So which would be stop and which would be running? Some one out there knows for sure.
  11. I'm sure there will be a lot of opinions on this, but I was wondering how you all do this while traveling. What I'm talking about is your GPS, helmets, jackets, cups, etc. When you stop, do you take all, some or none of this stuff with you? Does it matter if it's a 15 minute ice cream stop verses a 1.5 hour dinner? Also, do you keep your trunk and bags locked at all times? I've kind of bounced back and forth depending on the area of town I'm in but was wondering what others do while travelling.... Thanks for your help! Mike
  12. Hello Everyone: Wayde (67mini67) is enroute to Freebirds MD. He left Eastern Washington on Friday. He plans to stop here in Nebraska for lunch on Monday. I was pleased that he checked in with me last night about 4:00 PM. He was in Rock Springs WY at the time (775 miles). He still had 300 miles to go before his two night stop in Longmont. CO. He was doing fine dispite running in cool wet weather the entire way, even encountered temps in the mid 30's and snow at elevations above 6000 feet. I look forward to meeting Wayde on Monday. Hoping to add MD to my plans for next years travels. Ride safe everyone...Mark:)
  13. Installed 56 bulb LED tail lamp lights on my trailer. Running lights work fine but stop and turn lights flash fast and very dim. Heard I have to install a resistor on stop and turn wire or replace the flasher on the bike to a LED Flasher. Anyone with the best fix and where is the flasher, have searched under the seat with no luck.
  14. In the few weeks riding I have a question regarding 4 way stops. There's one such stop on my way to school where traffic tends to be quite heavy going in all four directions, and moves with relative regularity. It moves in such a way that traffic maintains an inconsistent roll of less than 5 mph (speedo isn't even registering at this point) all the way up to the stop sign itself where the lead vehicle can do a 3 to 5 second touch and go waiting for cross traffic to clear the intersection. The problem with the intersection for bikes is that there are rumble strips warning of the stop sign ahead, but at the heaviest times of traffic, the line is already formed beyond the farthest strip, meaning I'm having to go over these strips at less than 5mph. I'm getting used to doing this without having the fear of the bike jarring out from underneath me. My issue is, I'm not quite comfortable with pulling my legs up on to the pegs while doing the line crawl and usually have my boots skimming the air just above the pavement, not touching down unless the bike feels like it's leaning too far one way or the other, which a quick kick off, counter steer, running duck walk, or combination usually suffices to keep things balanced until the speed can come back up a little. Is this the right way to do it? I just get the feeling that there's too much that could go wrong if I stick in this habit, such as a boot bouncing off the pavement and winding up in the wheel somehow, or wedged between the road and the pipe; luckily the 'zuki is a shaft drive so I don't necessarily have to worry about getting caught in a belt or chain while pulling this off, but I'd rather not get into that habit either if I wind up having a bike with one of those in the future. So, is there a better way to do this "stop line crawl", or am I stuck with my method and just have to pull it off as safely as I can? It's not something that was really gone over in the MSF. Yeah they did taking the bike down a narrow lane for about 20 ft at minimal speed, but that was done at between 5 to 10 mph and I do have to say that the knobby tires of the dual sport did help with getting the slow feel of the rumble strips under wraps.

If anyone is planning on riding Vancouver Island be aware that the Naniamo police have announced they are going to stop and check every motorcyclist they see during the next year. This is supposedly to stop motorcycle accidents and deaths. They say it is the same as enforcing no cellphone regulations. To me it is more like mugging tourists so they don't get mugged by crooks. I sent a letter to the Nanaimo Daily News and another one to the Victoria Times Colonist advising them to read the Hurt report and asking how harassing motorcyclists is going to stop some idiot on a cell phone from hitting them. The letter to the Times Colonist was printed yesterday but I don't know about the Nanaimo News as we don't get it here.
  17. I posted this just after I got my 83 Venture royale last summer but couldn't remedy. Different year, same noise. If you saw the movie Dumb & Dumber, Jim carry's character asks," do you want to hear the most obnoxious sound ever?" Well mine is kind of like the sound he made. Like a prolonged chicken squawk. It starts at about 35 mph, it stops just as I come to a stop. It was really howling today (my second ride this year) so as I approached my house I pulled in the clutch and killed the motor. The noise again continued til I rolled to a stop. It is only one note no matter the engine speed or the ground speed. It does seem louder at times but that could be that the engine makes less noise at lower speed. I really like the bike except for this issue. I'm reluctant to spring for new tires and the starter clutch upgrade without knowing how serious this is. Thanks for any input. PS I can't imagine that the brakes could be the cause but tommorow I plan to pull the units off the wheel to make sure

  19. Planning to go riding on Saturday May 7th. I am in the Steele Creek area of Charlotte near I485 and I77. Thinking I might head kinda towards the north no set route yet. Anyone want to join me I plan on leaving by 9am and plan on being gone into the early evening. I usually stop and snack once before 11a and then stop and eat around 130p but this is mostly about riding. Just pm me or post here if you want to ride with me.
  20. This last storm has been a bad one here. I know that Alabama got hit hard, but we had seven people killed at a local truck stop in southwest Virginia and my kid brother was at the same truck stop when it happened. He had a 2X4 come thru the sleeper in the truck he was in and all he got was some minor cuts from glass. My lady Linda had new windows installed in her house two weeks ago and 12 of them got broken and her vinyl siding looks like someone spent an hour shooting the house with a machine gun from the hail. My Maxima looks like someone with a big ball peen hammer went all over it. I am surprised my windows survived but my passenger side mirror is busted. My concern now is our eastern NC friends like Mini Muffin, ADC Aurthur, Beer 30 and others. This one is not done yet. RandyA
  21. A man and a woman gets a divorce .Once outside the courthouse the woman starts crying. The man says stop crying, you are still my sister.
  22. We have been watching the weather non stop for weeks... we have been averaging only a day or so a week that is decent for a ride(keep in mind I am more of a fair weather rider). Been talking with Rick Butler about getting his mod done to my seat. Checked the weather and rain all week but Weds. So I tear out of work early and get it shipped today. After I got home and goofed off a bit I pull up the weather and BAM no rain on the forecast all week! High of 72 on Fri. DOH!!! Story of my life! Now I'm wishing for rain..haha Frank
  23. finally got to take my bike out with the new F4 windshield.....for anyone that's around 6 ft tall and gets head buffeting with a stock height windshield and wants to stop it, this shield , which is 2 inches longer than stock and much wider, ...works..
  24. I've had a time with this *** leg and cold this winter and it seems to be getting worse. I have blood clots in it and it aches when cold. I expected that during the winter when it was really cold but started to try and get out a little as weather is starting to break and it is worse. Only way I can get pain to stop is get in a hot tub of water and soak the thing. Cutting down my outside activity a lot. Any ideas on how to keep it warm without roasting the rest of me. What makes it react to cold like that? Blood flow not what it used to be. Time to Quit Riding?? I ain't buying it!!! My want to is back up from last couple years but this thing just won't let me go. Pills don't stop the cold ache.
  25. Does anyone know y i must have my choke on to get bike to run if i turn choke off it will stop runing:fingers-crossed-emo
