  1. I put a new front tire on the trike today, and while the front tire was off, I said to myself, what a perfect time to put a front fender rail on! Sooo, when I go over to Pioneer Motorsports to pick up the tire, I ask if they happen to have one in stock and they check and find yes they do have one in stock. We go to get it and we can't find it. Why?? Because Chad had already packed it in the trailer and when we ask about it, he tells me it is already promised to Freebird!!!!! Oh well, I will need to replace my front brakes before August anyway so maybe then...
  2. Great fairing for the price. Good service. I finally got it painted, installed and wired for sound. It doesn't play cassette tapes though but I can run my droid phone through it for mp3 listening pleasure and GPS service. Mounting was straight up to the stock windshield mount. No modification at all. Next addition has got to be a ram mount for the phone. Harley riders look at me funny now trying to figure out just what kind of bike it is.
  3. Has anyone removed their rear Barons kit and put their RSV back to stock height. If so what kind of project is this and what needs to be done. Thanks
  4. A stock handlebar riser for a 2nd Gen? I decided to remove the 2" risers on mine because the throttle cables were binding and the threads on one of the stock risers is pretty well stripped. I'll be happy to pay. I've checked ebay, but would rather buy from someone here if they have them. Thanks!
  5. Like it said, I have an 83 mk1 and the seat has started getting messed up from the heat and sun. Its almost like its melting and has gotten sticky. I like the stock seat but it really isn't too comfortable for a long ride. I'm a bigger guy, think 250ish so I was wondering if there is an aftermarket seat available for the first gen mk1s, would really like it to have the option for or come with a drivers back rest. Haven't been able to find any seat options so any ideas would be great, or any ideas about making stock seat more comfortable. Thanks for your time guys:bluesbrother:

  7. Ok gang, I have my RSV lowered front and rear.I am VERY happy with the way the bike handles, only real problem is the muffler scraping. I thought maybe I would make a set of links that are 3/4 or 1/2 the difference between the Barons and the stock links. I don't have a drill press handy and thought I might just see if someone was making these? Thanks for any and all help! Frank
  8. I bought the driving lights that I will be putting onto my MK II. They are the KC HiLites series 35. I have these same lights on my truck and really like them. The lens is designed to put some light forward like a driving light, but to also fill in the sides of where the stock headlight can't reach. very little of the beam is wasted on adding light to the same areas as the stock headlight. These come with 55W halogen bulbs that I plan to replace with 35W HID. 3 forward looking HIDs should light things up pretty good at night and keep me visible in the daytime. I am thinking of mounting them to the faring on the flat area just below the air intakes. I have not taken the vent out yet to see if there is room to add a reinforcement thickness of plastic to strengthen the area. Do you think that the plastic of the faring is strong enough as is to handle the weight of the light while bouncing down the road or do I really need to strengthen it some?
  9. It seems that not all new owners of these bikes are getting the timely warning about how fast the stock rear brake pads wear out. Last Saturday we had three relatively new owners show up at the mini maintenance day who had not heard this - all three had between 12K-17K miles on their bikes, and the rear pads were shot on ALL of their bikes! At least two were actually metal-to-metal on the inside pad - can't say for certain on the third - his looked to be down that far when I inspected it, but I did not see the pads changed. Anyway - consider this just another attempt to get the word out to anyone who has not heard it yet - the stock Yamahaha rear brake pads will be GONE by 12,000 miles (especially the inside pad, which always wears faster)! If your 2nd gen bike has less than 20,000 miles on it and you do not KNOW that the rear pads have been changed to something other than stock Yamahaha pads, check them NOW! Goose (This is not a problem with the front pads - even stock front pads can be expected to last 40-50,000 miles.)
  10. Finally took the trailer out for the first time..I notice there is more noise from the exhaust bouncing back off of the trailer. I expected that. But the wife and I also noticed that we could smell the exhaust more. It's hard to tell in the photo but it looks like the exhaust exists the pipes below the trailer so I thought the smell would go right back under the trailer. I wouldn't mind except I'm a little concerned about breathing too much of it in if we get stuck in stop and go traffic...should I be worried or is it fine? Is there an alternative? I see these aren't the stock pipes. Would it help if they were stock? Are the pipes or sleeves you slip on the ends of the pipes that curve outward so the exhaust is shot out to the side instead of the back? And if so, would that help anything? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm new to pulling a trailer on the bike...
  11. Hey Guys, I'm going to be installing vent(s) in my stock windshield and am just wondering if anyone has installed two Goldwing vents? Or do you think one is enough? I get very hot in the summer and need the airflow.
  12. Is there a device that will perform a blue tooth interface between a blue tooth enabled cell phone and the stock intercom on 2nd Gen RSV?
  13. I currently ride an 01 Vulcan 1500 with baffled Corbra drag pipes. I LOVE the sound of the bike. I've read that the RSV with the right mufflers sounds like a V8. How do you guys with aftermarket mufflers find they sound? If I like a bike to have a distinctive sound would I like a V4 with pipes? I realize a v4 won't sound like a single crank pin V-twin. I've ridden an RSV with stock and debaffled stock mufflers. They were both on the quiet side for my taste.
  14. You know I've probably dropped 4 nuts putting my seat back on and I think Ive only found two. Where have you guys seen them go? I just ordered 6 more. I tried the nylon ones but like the length of the stock nuts. Makes it easier to install.
  15. Does anyone make one? Have been looking but to no avail. Seems to me it wouldn't be that hard to do: An aluminum channel same shape and thickness as the bottom of our stock windshield about 3 inches wide with receiver lugs in a channel on top side. top piece would sandwich bottom of stock windshield on top side and fit into reciever on bottom side with a quick release. Could also make a interlocking finger pattern between the two with one set screw. Hardest part would be getting the perfect bend. Love my windshield on the cooler days and interstate riding, but when it gets to 90 deg... At slower speeds it sure would be nice to take it off ... and possibly put it in fabricated shell that attaches to your luggage rack to protect it... Help I need more Wind! er... let me rephrase that... Help I need more AIR... LOL
  16. Installed my new F4 windshield today. It's the wide version, 2" inches taller than stock with vent. Really impressed with clarity, thickness, and lack of buffeting after install. It was nice not dealing with looking through the top edge of stock windshield.
  17. finally got to take my bike out with the new F4 windshield.....for anyone that's around 6 ft tall and gets head buffeting with a stock height windshield and wants to stop it, this shield , which is 2 inches longer than stock and much wider, ...works..
  18. I've been enjoying the thread the was just revisited about drilling out the stock RSV mufflers. Got me to thinking about my Road King mufflers and wanting to get them a bit louder. I've read all the threads I can find, but I'm still not getting it for some reason. The thread about the stock mufflers has pics, so I was finally able to get my head around that process. Can anybody offer any visual help with the RK mufflers? I'd like to do mine if I can figure it out.
  19. well after many miles of riding and figuring i have come to the following conclusions about the new sound. i have noticed a drop off in my fuel mileage. about 15 miles on a tank of gas. its not to b aD,considering what the cost of gas is. any further info will be posted thanks well has anyone eles found a drop in fuel milege after changing there stock pipes? is there any thing to do about it? let us know about it
  20. Hey guys. I asked these questions on the Sportster.org forum, but got no responses. Maybe because my avatar is the same one I use here (VMAX). I hope that's not the case. I also went to our area Harley dealer today and spoke to the service dept. He really tried to assist me, but could not offer any measurements either. At least he tried. Now, any of you Sportster owners who can take some measurements for me or answer some of my questions will go straight to #1 on my list. So, below is what I posted on Sportster.org. "O.k. Maybe I was asking the wrong question, or in the wrong way, in my previous post. So, I think I am barking up the right tree this time. Please bear with me on this. My 2003 883R was lowered by the previous owner, but I don’t like the loss of travel and the stiffness. I want a better ride and to return the sporty-ness of my Sportster. I think it was lowered with Progressive springs. Looks like the stock damper rods were probably replaced with shorter ones (from a Hugger maybe?). Now I need stock damper rods (and maybe fork tubes) to install because I want to return the forks to stock height. I have a couple of questions: On the 883R bikes, what is the stock distance between the bottom of the lower triple tree fork clamp and the top of the chrome dust cover ring on the forks? Right now, with my bike in lowered style, that distance is only 3 1/2 inches. Looking at other Sportsters, I think that maybe should be about 5.5 inches or more, but I don’t have any Sportsters near me to measure. So I need some help please. Also, what length are the stock damper rods, top to tip (and if you know, the length of the shock tubes also) of a 2003 883R? And, can anyone offer a source for the stock damper rods? Or, does anyone have any that they have taken out when lowering their bike and they want to part with them? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks a mucho gazillion!" Rusty
  21. Anyone have a stock set of leveling links they would like to part with.I need to remove the lowering kit on my bike so I can install the Voyager trike kit I just bought.
  22. NOTE: This first post in the thread has been changed by me for reasons explained below. If you have already read it, read it again - it is very different now. Positive review of the MT66 tires. First, just a little background for those who don't already know about me - I am a complete fan of Avon Venom tyres for the RSV. I have done a LOT of testing various tires, new and worn, and shorter suspension links to raise the rear of the bike; you can find a lot of this info if you search for some of my oldest posts. Now even though I love the Venom tyres, I just can't resist testing other options, especially when there is a cheaper price involved! I put a brand new set of Pirelli MT 66 ROUTE tires on QuickSilver (my 05 RSV) last summer, then proceeded to crash the bike on my way out of town that night when the slick new tires broke loose in a surprise curve! Busted me up enough that I couldn't ride for about four months, and didn't do much good for QuickSilver either. Well, she's back on the road again, and I've already learned a few things about these tires. I think I like them. The load range on the rear tire is less than with an Avon Venom - only 74H. That is the same as the stock tires, so no problem there, but I would prefer to have the higher load rating as a margin of safety. When I first mounted them last summer, I didn't notice anything specific about them - they seemed to handle fine for the one short test ride, and then for the thirty miles or so before I went down. But most of that was on the freeway, so not much of a handling test. At this point, let me note that I had Leveling Links on the 05 then to raise the rear of the bike, and as I have previously written in great detail, raising the rear greatly improves the slow speed handling, making even the horrible stock Brickstone tires feel reasonable. Well, after the crash, I bought an 07 RSV and switched the leveling links to it while the 05 just sat and waited for me to fix it up. I finally got most of the repairs done and have started riding QuickSilver again (so far WITHOUT the leveling links), and I am happy to report that these Pirelli tires make the bike with stock suspension feel light and agile. Slow speed handling my be as good as the Avons, but I still have more testing to do. I cannot yet report on speed handling on the curvy roads. I have compared the width and profile (shape of the curved surface) with my brother's Dunlop 404s, and the front tire is almost identical. MUCH narrower and more curved than a Brickstone in the same stock size of 150/80-16. I'll report on the comparison with the Avon Venom soon. I'll also be covering a couple of thousand miles on them in the next week or so, so I'll be able to give y'all a full report on them soon. In the mean time, the prices look good compared to the Avon Venoms, and they seem seem pretty good, so if you have to order tires before I can complete the testing, you might want to consider the Pirellis if you are tight on money.. Goose
  23. Since I can't post on the classified section yet, although I am a paid member, I am looking for a stock heel/toe shifter and stock rear brake lever/pedal. The original owner of my 06 RSV cut them off and did a crappy welding job of replacing them. Don't ask why, but they have got to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mongo
  24. I'm looking for pics of lower and wider than stock windshields on bike. Trying to decide what I like best.
  25. I got my F4 Customs windshield back in December, but the weather has been CRAPPY here until this weekend...a beautiful weekend too I might add...so I finally got a chance to shoot a couple of pics that really show off the clarity of this shield. YES, I love the shield. I got the one that is 2" wider and 2" taller than the stock shield. I would DEFINITELY buy this shield again (especially after riding in the rain one day last week)...light rain just SHEETED right off the shield. My only (EXTREMELY MINOR) complaint is that I do wished it still had the black shaded strip at the bottom of the shield. Not only did that strip make the stock shield look better, but it also reduced glare a little bit and hid the dirt between the shield and the fairing. Here are the pics. Wally
