  1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260288717633 Saw these on eBay. I have some but MAW says they are dealer only items now. Might turn out to be a good deal for someone here.

    Trip

Well just took my first trip on a Venture (2005) the wife on her 2005 VTX 1300, We left on Thrus evening Sept 4 from Florence Ms heading to Dogpatch Ar (worst rally I have ever been to, will not go again) but the ride thru Jasper, Ar, hwy 7, 43 and 74 were great rides, rode to Boxley Valley saw the Elk come within 100 yards of us, spent two days in that area, then headed out to Eureka Springs staying at the Iron Horse Stables (Nice Folks) very peacefully stay, rode in and around Eureka Springs a couple of days, then headed to Branson Mo, by way of hwy 86 to 65 good ride in the country, (had one of them free vacation there, sat in a 90 minute presentation) got 3 days and 2 nights free. Left out Thur heading to Hot Springs Ar for the rally by way of 65 to 7 GREAT Ride except for the 40 mile detour due to washout on hwy 7. Check the weather Thur night and decided to leave for home Friday Morning due to weather, of the 1500 mile trip we did not get wet untill 40 miles from home. The venture average 42 mpg the vtx 44 mpg, the venture was a little squirly on the curves, need to do something about it and I developed a shake on front end if you have one hand on the Handle bars and you are letting off the throttle, any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. My Wife says that skunks should be on the endangered list in Ar as many as we saw dead on the road.
  3. Heading out at 8:30 for the Springs or as soon as my friend arrives. He is an 1:45 minutes north of me. Really looking forward to hitting the road and see folks. For those going, we have an invite from Cycle Gadgets for 10:30 AM Saturday to stop by for coffee and donuts . They are really nice people and have a great selection of touring items. Never have any trouble finding something I want:cool10: I will try to remember to take pictures. Back on Sunday! J:biker:
  4. how do these come off? they appear to just slip on and be held in place by the springs but I cant get them loose. Are they screwed on? or do I just need a bigger hammer?
  5. well we cancelled our reservations for eureka springs completely...so if anyone was still looking for a room at edelweiss our dbl queen room is now available. very disapointed we had to do this but.......but something happened today ( a big slap while we're already down) which i will fill ya in on later that made up our minds not to go. this is getting to be a like Peyton Place here in our home and im ready for the movie to end.
  6. Hey guys, I'm finally getting off the north slope of Alaska and am going to do my best to make Eureka Springs. Any motels other than the Eidelwiess (bad spelling) as I know it's full now. Thanks:snow: Jerry
  7. starting to monitor eureka springs weather, looks like the temps. are going to be in the low to mid 80's, just like last year. perfect for a meet. bill :clap2:
  8. the eureka springs meet will be here in 2 1/2 weeks. where has the summer gone? really getting excited about it. sounds like we are going to have a good crowd, with lots of great rides, eating and followed by a wind down party on the edelweiss deck overlooking the woods every night. once again just want to remind you'all bring your helmets and something for the drawing if you want. we are also going to have a 50/50 drawing for st. jude, and the proceeds are going to squidly's st. jude tattoo fund. really looking forward to seeing you all again this year and the first timers too. see you all there. i am bringing my truck and trailer, so we will have an emergency hauler if we need it. before you jump on me about trailering down there. i may ride and have linda follow me. we need the truck to haul her suitcases. :rotf: bill
  9. won't be long before the 08 eureka springs ar. meet, sept 10th thru the 13th. it is going to be a good one and probably the last one. fantastic rides, even going to stop by the hub for dinner. lots of good folks will be there. any late comers that need info we have a sticky under rides and rallies. for those planning on coming we are having a drawing for the guys and gals, so if you would like to donate a small item for the drawing that would be fine. this meet is totally free , no registration. so all you need is food and gas. i think the host motel is totally full but there is a load of motels and eaterys in the immediate area. looking forward to seeing my old friends and lots of new ones. we have some great rides planned. even though there is a no helmet laws in arkansas bring helmets cuz we may do some riding in missouri, and they have a helmet law. bill
  10. When I found out that they were going to run the Indy Mile flat track races this year after an absence of nine years I just couldn't keep from buying tickets right then. I later discovered that the Eureka Springs rally is the same week. Just my luck. I remember watching this race when I was much younger and dreaming of how cool it would be to see it in person. I'm not too concerned about being cool anymore, but I've just got to go to the race. Don't think I'll see any of my childhood stars, but the race is the same. I hope everyone at the E.S. Rally has a great time, even Wild Bill and Alan H. Hope to see you all a little later in the season, maybe the East Texas meet in October. Enjoy and have fun!!
  11. don't forget the eureka springs meet is coming up sept 10th through 13th. the weather is usually perfect that time of the year and it will be a great meet. the eidelweis may still have a couple of rooms left, there are motels ajaceint to the edelweiss if it is full. we will ride by the hub. bill
  12. i'm new at this-what will i need to change be sides the oil seal and springs 84vr
  13. I’ve been reading a lot about Progressive suspension and how good they are. Do they really make that much of a difference, and do I need them? I have done a search on this forum and can’t really find an answer. How do I tell if I need new springs, and I guess this would be the time to upgrade if required? Having only owned my VR for a few months it is hard to tell. I think my bike rides very nice, although I have nothing to compare it to. I’m hoping you can help enlighten me. I'm looking forward to any and all feedback on this topic.
  14. I got both the service manual and the manual on CD and neither explain or give good diagrams to where all the componets are located. I have a 87 xvz13 parts bike and a 89 xvz13 runner. The 89's previous owner was having trouble with the Class unit and put progressive springs on the front, disconnected the air hoses from the pump/???, ran the rear air hose into the right side hardbag and looks to be hooked up to a air canister w/air valve. I want to put it all back to stock, except leave the progressive springs in. I have a good working Class unit and all I need from the 87. I just need to know where everything is located? Reason I'm doing this is because I have a Calif. friendship III sidecar I am hooking up to it. Anyone point me in the right direction?
  15. How is the air with the sidecar? Would progressive springs be better in the front?
  16. We have been known to do rides! but this is going to be a real Ride!. Leaving out June 20th from SLC, Ut. to a nice lake in Roanoak, Va. where there is a cabin and sailboat waiting. Taking about 3+ weeks. Our trip route, right now, is as follows: - SLC to Steamboat Springs, Co. (done this run and it's nice) - Steamboat Springs to Colorado Springs using the mtn roads (of course) through Breckinridege and coming in the back door to Col. Springs. Great BBQ place in Manitou Springs and across the street is a drop dead, cardio disaster fudge shop. Mmmmm. - Col. Springs to Dodge City, Ks. I teach film making at a university, bought the rights to a book, author lives in Dodge.... business meeting you know.... - Next stop, Branson, mo. to visit the daughter who is the Media production manager for the Dutton family Theater. I think this will be a 2 day run. I see toll roads in Ok, and Ak. not sure about those... everything out here is 'free'ways ya know. We are actually going south out of Wichita to the 412 to Tulsa. Maybe staying there or Siloam Springs before heading to Springdale then NE to Branson. Some twisty roads there that are calling me.... - From Branson it will be west and south to Roanoak. Not sure on the route here.. up for suggestions. I think we are leaning towards getting to Roanoak but wandering when we leave heading back... so maybe catchin 64 might be the best? Route back--- - We are liking the idea of Knocksville and Nashville. Have not spent time in the country music capital of the universe (maybe 'cause country and us don't get along... personal issue of course).... but the city seems full of fun stuff to see of a day or so. Up for suggestions here as well. Or we could take a northern route back to Utah. Not really interested in pounding 70 or 80... done that... been there. So that's our adventure this summer. Input, comments welcome. We pack light, travel just fast enough to see the sights and live by the code "all destinations are subject to change if the mood strikes us".
  17. having a problem coming up with t-shirts for eureka springs. can't seem to get a comunication going with shirtz&things after a little phone tag i have emailed them. here is the problem. as recommended by allanh. i want to set it up where each member that wants them ,can order there size directly off their web site. this way i don't have to mess with shipping and i don't want to collect peoples money to pay for them. i am not wanting to have any kind of registration fee for this meet. i tried our only local t-shirt and graffics dealer but they have no website. if i can't get something going with shirtzn things this week i am going to give up on the t-shirt idea. i haven't got a design yet and to be honest i don't have a clue what i am doing when it comes to designing t-shirts. my sister is a profesional artist but has had some health problems so i don't want to burden her. if someone else wants to tackle the t-shirts and patches that knows what they are doing, have at it. i am in the process of getting a bunch of door prizes together for the guys and gals for the drawing. other than the t-shirt problem everything is coming together for a great meet and looks like we will have a good turnout. hope we have the weather we had last year. see you all there. bill
  18. just got a great idea for the eureka springs meet. we are going to have a day for the ladies. starting with a place of their choice to eat breakfast, followed by a day of shopping in old town eureka springs, then followed by their choice of a place to eat dinner. all the men will have to go shopping and come up with a gift for a lady and names will be drawn back at the motel during the night party on the deck. by the way i am having a hard time coming up with a t-shirt design that will be acceptable to everybody this will be for shirts and patches. give me some input. no specific model bike pictures. i already got the tough logo. venturerider eureka springs 2008 rally. give me a picture. we are going to have a drawing for the guys too. so guys bring a little something for that. i already have a few neat things i am bringing. i want this to be a great rally so any ideas will be appreciated. bill
  19. I am in the proses of putting in new springs. when you put the new progressive springs in, what do you leave out? Below the cap bolt is a cap with a o ring on it, does that get left out? If you put that in, it is already higher than what is recommended without using a spacer at all. Any help will be appreciated.
  20. What are the dates for the Eureka Springs, Ar. ride in? Is it to early to make the reservations? I think the wife and I are planning on taking most of the week off and do some riding there before hand. Looking forward to seeing you all again. Thanks, Dandy
  21. I have read that everyone says to put on a set of Progressive springs on the front. I am going to have my forks rebuilt and I wanted to know if this is the time to install them? They go inside of the fork tubes right? Does anyone know where I can get a set and what the part number is? Can I still use the air suspension? Thanks, Kevin
  22. I cannot seem to find the info and dates of the Eureka Springs get-together. Any help would be appreciated.
  23. Hell Friends. Well I finally got home Thursday morning after being gone working for 38 days. After a short nap I took my paperwork to the courthouse and got the Black Beast relicensed.( I had to apply for a rebuild title). I slapped the license plate on, fired her off and went for a 3 hr cruise. Boy did it feel GOOOOOOD to be back on her. As good a bike as the Nomad is it just doesn't compare to a RSV. A couple of the changes that I made that I was wondering about were the handle bars and the front fork springs. I put a set of Flander's bars on and man what a difference. I had the 1 1/2 inch Baron's risers on but these bars are so much better there is no comparison. This should be the bars that Yamaha uses as stock. I cant wait il I can go on an all day run to see how good I will feel. The fork springs were changed out for a set of firmer springs from Sonic Springs. Since I am an agressive rider I wanted a little firmer front fork. I also changed out the fork oil to 10 w oil. Boy did I get a firmer front end. I drove hard down into a couple of corners just to see what would happen when I laid on the front brake. It was amazing. The bike did not try to stand up at all. And the ride??? With 6 lbs of air in the front shocks, I did add a air balance kit also, it rode as smooth and soft as it did when it was new. I took out the rear lowering links and went back to stock when I changed out the rear brake line. I'm not totally happy with the way it sits so I am going to make a set of links that are half way between stock and the Baron's set. When I rode 2 up the mufflers would drag way too much to suit me. I even pumped the air up to 65 psi on the rear shock but it didn't seem to help. I will let ya'll know how that works out. In my rush to get back on the road I have not cleaned her up good yet. As soon as I can get it cleaned and waxed I will post some pics of her. She looks as good as new.
  24. Anybody got a good source for progressive springs for my 88VR ? PS. We finally have a nice day to be on the road in Indiana. Thanks be to God. Thanks Scott
  25. I'm touching on an area where I know nothing. Well not nothing... I know when I hit the brakes, the front dives pretty good. I've heard and read a little about progressive springs. I've also read that the best thing to do is get springs tuned to you and your bike. For me, that second option would be (hopefully) a moving target. Those that have met me know that I am rather large. The good news is I'm a little less large today than I was last month. I hope to continue that trend for the next 2 or 3 years. Anyway, I don't want to keep replacing springs tuned to the new me. Therefore I'm thinking progressives. Educate me please. What can I expect from them? Can I do these myself? I didn't see a tech article... Can you point to one so I can see whats involved? Lacking that, a brief walk through. Costs? Worth the costs? I'll keep searching and reading other threads, but any and all info helps.
