  1. Does anyone know of a good mechanic in the Denver area who can install progressive springs in my 1987 Venture Royale?
  2. Hi Guys. Need some help. I am suffering from a bad case of clutch slip. Does the 1999 second gen TF Venture have a clutch spring plate or does it have several, say six small springs like the older machines. I say that it is an spring plate as shown in service manual. 1 in total. The chap who sells EBC parts on E-Bay says it is a set of several springs. As shown below. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11051.m43.l1123/7?euid=e57ef8c1b95d43ddbc200129acc4e73c&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Febaymotors%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D270926331528%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AX%3ARTQ%3AMOTORS%3A1123 Thanks. Neil. Old Miner.
  3. http://www.komonews.com/weather The fork oil will be draining for 24 hours and so tomorrow morning will begin the removal of parts to install my new progressive springs. Hope all goes well for I'm off Friday for a short ride.
  4. Hi All, I have introduced myself in the new members section so i wont bore you again. To the questions! I am picking up my 96 Royal Star tomorrow and am looking at ways to unleash the beast being a serial modder like i am! way the reviews read you would think the poor bike could not pull the head off a custard its supposedly so underpowered. However i dont expect it to be anywhere near that bad. I suspect its just a bunch of harley riding journos who arent actually used to a bike that actually revs out! My plan of attack is 4 into 4 slipons( it is bone stock!) dyna 3000 ignition, big air kit , vmax cams and springs and 32mm carbs. I might look at the Vmax rear hub as well but i would prefer to see how it pulls after the engine mods first. Now the issues! 4 into 4 pipes seem non existent now. Am i best off finding some generic aftermarkets and fabbing some mounts? Also can the cams and springs be swapped without removing the engine? Any help appreciated. Great to be here.
  5. Trying to plan for some events this year along with a vacation and was just wondering if there will a Eureka Springs Hub rally this year and if so about what time of year will it be.
  6. I bought this 84 venture and was looking at the carbs and noticed one of the slider springs is completely gone. where can i get one and how much are they?
  7. not sure if I need srings or just change the fork oil, I am getting a bounce in the front end between 30 and 35, took the wheel off and re-ballanced, it was spot on, so thats not it, put a peice of card board in a clamp and set it allmost to the tire and spun the wheel, not out of round.... it is an `01 so springs are probably shot, just reaching for Ideas.. Thanks
  8. Anyone knows the where abouts of skydoc_17. I've sent 2 pm's requesting information on the fuse kit and progressive springs but no answer.
  9. Modifying my Harbor Freight (HF) trailer to haul the Rsv to the Cody rally. I have been using it to haul my Seadoo RXP back and forth to the river since 2005 and at 900 lb. its never been a problem. Made a rack for it that is bolted to the top of the trailer. Attempted to put the axle above the springs but changed my mind when i saw a place on the frame that had the paint knocked off due to a hard hit(pothole). So I put axle back under springs. Was worth while as i tore everything apart cleaned and repacked wheel bearings and used marine grade grease. The mods made are: 1. Installing pressure treated 2x4 cut down "in" the last rear portion of the frame 2. 1 piece of 3/4" pressure treated plywood.(OVER EXISTING 1/16 DIAMOND steel) ** 1&2 were done as i worried about all of the pressure the wheels would put at just one point on trialer ** 3. Getting rid of the old ratching winch and replacing with a HF remote control 3000 lb. electric winch with a marine battery and box. 4. Installing a motorcycle front wheel chock from HF. 5. Installing a spare tire holder from HF. 6. need to find a +5 rise 1 1/4" hitch bar so the Toyota Corolla 11" top of receiver will yeild a level trailer 16" at tongue.
  10. I ordered the progressive front fork springs, am I supposed to change the seals at the same time? Changing the seals looks a lot more involved than I'd be able to do. How do you know when they need replaced? Thx!
  11. darn, the eureka springs meet is getting close. one week away. if your coming and not on the calender ,please sign in on the days you will attend. there are plenty of motels in the area, if the edelwiess is full. see you there and everyone ride safe. you will need a helmet cuz we may ride into missouri. bill
  12. A few pictures from Eureka Springs. Went on a short ride today and got caught in the rain. Fortunately it didn't last long. Then there were the two KIDS who had to play with scooters. Thanks all who arranged this meet. Having a great time. Will post more pics later.
  13. Heading out in the morning for our 2700 mile trip from Colorado Springs to Chicago, then down Route 66 to NM then back up to Colorado Springs....with lots of stops along the way! If anyone would like to follow our progress, we are going to try to "blog" about it as we go...I've never really done a blog, so we will see how it works...Here's the link: http://mikeandkerrisjune2011motorcycletrip.blogspot.com/ :cool10:
  14. I noticed where some could not get in the Edlewise Inn for the Eureka Springs M&E next week. I have had to cancel my reservations so I thought I'd let anyone know that might be interested in a room there. Maybe next year for me. Enjoy.
  15. Anyone out there riding with these springs in the front, what air pressure are you running in the forks if any at all.. I was told that you needn't have to have air pressure as the springs were heavy duty enough to negate the need for air pressure. Not sure if I actually need to add air to my front end but ya never know.. ?
  16. Semi-emergency: clutch springs needed for 2001 venture near Milwaukee. My name is Greg Gill and I am at Waukesha County Tech taking a MSF ultimatebike rider course. During exercise 1 I fried my clutch. I can sit still in 1st gear. MC shops are closed. Cash paid for a VMax clutch spring kit. Call my cell .
  17. Where would you recommend purchasing Progressive Springs for 89 VR from?
  18. Does anyone have any concerns with these ebay Progressive Springs. Suggested Retail: $92.95 The Original Progressive Rate Fork Springs soak up the small road bumps, yet are firm enough to absorb the molar-rattling ones. Spring rates have been chosen to reduce front end "dive" during braking, yet still provide excellent ride comfort. Better yet, we warranty our fork springs for life! Progressive Rate Fork Springs have several advantages over straight rate springs. A straight rate spring only offers linear resistance to compression and is a compromise. For example, if you have a 20lb straight rate spring, it will take 20lbs of force to compress the spring one inch. It will take 20 more lbs of force to compress it the next inch, and so on, until the end of the travel. A Progressive Rate Spring has the advantage of a rising rate resistance to compression.
  19. Over the last two days, I decided to jump in to the "project" before the pretty weather arrived so a few thoughts to share..... Dunlop Elite 3 tires from SportTour in Cincinnati for $117 and $119 seems to be a pretty decent price. They also have a nice website with lots of good things at rather decent prices. No real problems changing then at all and the rear needed no weight to balance at all. While I was in to it, and since I had the Super Brace and some new Progressive for springs, it was only logical to do that at the same time, so I jumped in. The archives on this website were absolutely critical in being able to complete this task with little to no difficulties. To all those who have shared their experiences, I offer a humble and heartfelt "Thank You" Here are a couple of things I learned while doing this project....... - a 5/16 hitch pin clip works just fine in the rear axle nut( had one in the parts drawer) - AutoZone has a set of hex bits in 12, 14, and 17 mm for $9.95 that will be a great addition to anyones tool box. They are 1/2 inch drive and the 17 is perfect for the forks. Anti seize on the threads helps them go back in very nicely. - on the recommendation of a racer friend, I used Mobll 1 full synthetic in the forks. We'll have to see how that works out. - a 3/8 inch impact works nicely for helping remove all kinds of bolts and nuts that have never been touched. The hammering action helps break up corrosion on threads without the fear of breaking things. It doesn't take a high setting at all to move things. After I got everything back together, I just had to go out for a bit to scrub then new tires in a bit. Even with being quite cautious to no get too excited with the new tires, I was astounded with the difference in the feel of the bike. The little voice in the back of my head kept saying "where are those guys on the Ninjas?" but I did my level best to ignore him. Weather or not, I am riding this fabulous machine a bunch this year, starting tomorrow.....
  20. Its 7degrees C and the sun is shinning. So this morning I replaced the fork springs and took off the anti-dives and with the new brace it was a nice day to take a ride!! The bike preformed above expectations. Thanks to Condor's super brace and Skydoc's springs and anti-dive covers, this is going to be a good summer for ridding. Now, can any one tell me where I can get a supply of free time and gas money!!!!!
  21. OK,anyone that has ridden a Gold Wing especially over a rougher road knows the front fork set up could use some attention..dont get me wrong it is super on the highway but you still feel harsher bumps thru the handlebars. That being stated I just got home from a ride with another Wing that has the "All Balls" and Progressive Rate springs installed on it...plus a Kumho Run Flat Car Tire. My observations:Night and day difference having the progressive rate springs in the front end,the all ball head bearings are very stable feeling, seems more responsive also. The progressive Rate springs took 95 % of harshness out..Im saying 95% because after appx 50 miles or whatever riding it I didnt feel the harshness but Im sure as with any bike a hard enough hole in the road will make it jolt you. The Car Tire....I will not be going with it..I felt very unsure on it as it seemed to want to roll as I would corner, that being said the guy that owns it can easily scrape the boards and corner as good if not better than I. On April 5th I will be going to Houston to have the all balls and progressive springs plus shock bled and reloaded plus Chrome Wheels installed. For $275.00 I am having the All Balls and Springs put in,I am supplying the springs. I think this will be the best money I have spent tweaking a bike compared to the ride I took today. I hope this write up helps anyone with questions on the front suspension. IM me if you need the guys number or if OK with Freebird I will post it here..Tom
  22. Ive searched and haven't found any thread about disassembling the forks and replacing the seals and springs. Ive found plenty of threads about how great new springs are, but no step by step procedures.
  23. Any Colorado Springs Riders out there know where the best (and least expensive) place is to get my new tires mounted for my '06 RSV? Thanks!
  24. Ok, been reading up on the install on the springs and there is some good stuff about installing progressive springs, the problem i have and cant find the answer to is how long and what size is the pvc spacer is, the springs i got came out of of a set of forks and they had no spacers in them, do you realy need the spacers ? it said to cut the spacer in half that came with springs, sence i did not buy these new and there was no spacer in there to begin with i am lost, does the space go on the top or the bottem, help if you will.
  25. I know from reading some past posts that there are a few members here who have updated their front suspension. Since ill have my forks apart for polishing soon I figure this would be a good time to do some upgrading. What is the best choice for a modified front suspension: the Racetech Emulators and a better spring or would Progressive springs alone be enough? Does the emulators replace the air bags in the forks? What about seals? Do these kits come with the necessary seals? Any special tecniques needed for this project? Best synthetic fork oil to use? Part #'s would help. Some of the sites only list springs for the earlier tour deluxe models, not the RSV. Thanks....
