  1. After all my hard work and even leaving Carl's venture in early to to get all the work done , I have to say I failed. got the drywall done and painted in the three story stair well. but did not get finished building the oak hand raill. Fortunatly my Daughters wedding was still a great success everyone had a great time eating drinking and dancing. This morning we had a big after wedding breakfast, and tonight we had a big after wedding dinner. As speeches go they were all short and sweet and as per normal, each talker managed to put someone on the spot, except me I some seemed to put myself on the spot (guess this is why my lowest grade in school was public speaking. My wife had the shortest speach in history. she got up and said My daughter was absolutly beautiful and through out the night she made sure she spent time with each person that was there. My son in law wanted to know how long before he could start borrowing tool's- - Hard to believe:think: Actually my new son in law is a great guy and I could not have picked any one better for my daughter. I know he will treat her right. trouble is my wife will start expecting the same from me. She is the type of person that thinks you can teach old dogs new tricks.
  2. From the seat....Tight spot those seat nuts....
  3. I took Blu out for a couple hours today and i almost feel human again. I was down to the last fuel bar and still had enough seafoam to cause a let of very smelly smoke. It took a bit to warm up but once it ran a bit, I took to the road. I rode it to the station and filled up. there was just a bit of flutter taking off but after a few min on the interstate, everything smoothed out and she was silk again. I had not ridden it since I had trouble with height and almost dumped it at a stop sign. After Yammer Dan and others helped me through the settings, I got a mud wasp nest out of the shock area and I could flat foot her. I decided to go play in the slow traffic and get used to it. I was amazed that I never had to put my feet down until I was totally stopped. She balanced very well even going really slow. I tried some tight turns. It was no effort to pull into a parking space in an empty lot pull through the spot and u back into the third spot with no problem. As much as I would like a RSV, I hope the guy does not come up with the money this weekend. Thanks for the help guys!
  4. Yesterday we were heading to the Barrett Jackson car auction on the 101 loop road around Phoenix. I was running in the middle lane at the speed limit with the headlight modulator on. A guy in a jeep in the right lane decides he wants my spot and came about half way into my lane before he got the message. Last I seen him, he was still in the right lane and had dropped back to a crawl. That was too close for comfort.
  5. I just recently bought a 1989 Venture Royale and a day ago I noticed a small wet spot under the bike about as far back as the highway pegs. It was so small, I really didn't take time to investigate. But after leaving my bike parked for two cold days at my G/F in Chicago (near freezing temperatures) I noticed that the spot was about 6-8 inches in dia. and appeared to be water... Anyone know where I may get down and look for the source? Water pump seal? Radiator Hose connection? I have no idea. Thank you in advance for your input. I need it. Sunrayman
  6. I blame this all on my oldest daughter,,,,,, well she's the one who married that big fella who decided earlier this year to change jobs and living accommodations, and then they picked a spot that is not biker friendly. In fact their street, if you want to call it that is located in a little hamlet called Limehouse (the first giveaway) is made mainly of dirt and hills with some gravel thrown in to make it look real. When you leave the pavement of the real road, the path, indicated by the grass on the sides, goes directly down and then heads back up for the clouds immediately after. About halfway up they have positioned an abode that they call their own with a driveway that is on the downward grade, much opposite to the inclining angle of the pathway, called Elizabeth Street. Being that there is more road above their driveway and we have had our share of downloading of moisture this year, there is now a bit of a ditch on the edge of the path that needs to be crossed before you can negotiate the hump that leads to the decline in their what they call their driveway. It really is a nice place, beautiful setting and they are great poeple,, after all they are family. Anyways, Marca and I went visiting yesterday and decided to take the scoot. All went well, we got there, shook hands, gave hugs, talked, ate, and had a good time. Then the fun started. We got ready to go home and my scooter was parked in the way of someone else, sooooo I fired it up and seeing as it was not in a good position for Marca to mount took it down the path to the main road so to turn around and bring things into a better perspective so that mounting would not be an all night affair. At the road the path comes to an adrupt vertical end at the pavement, but the road takes a corner just then and lays pretty much in the opposite direction, so there is another hump. To stop at that point would pretty much have a rear bound Venture with a forward looking rider, for that is the exact spot that the roadmakers decided that it needed to be graveled,, so I found that of to my right, was a paved parking spot, but that was on a downward slope as well and then also in the opposite direction. Anyways, I made it there, got turned around and headed back down the path to pick up my sweetie. We got dressed, got the scoot in a decent position for loading up and headed out. We have done this before and managed to negotiate the end of the pathway rather well,,,,, well that's because there was not traffic coming.... but this time there was,,, and we had to make a stop,,,,, well I headed for the paved parking spot, but, that being at a double angle and not very smooth with some gravel thrown in for good measure, became the spot of our unloading. We stopped, we teettered, but I keep the brakes on, so we didn't roll,,,, slowly, ever so slowly we got into another angled position, not forwards or backwards this time, but sidewards,,, not a good omen,,,, and my sweetie was not impressed when I told her: we're going over, hang on. No damage, only a slightly pulled muscle on the back of the leg behind the knee and that should fix itself probably with some nice massage from someone willing to spend the time. To keep a long story short. We\I laid the bike down last night.
  7. Here’s the last update on what has transpired since my wreck on Sept. 4th. As some of you might remember, when they did the CT scan after the accident, they had found enlarged lymph nodes in my chest area and also a suspicious look spot on my left lung. The two things together added up to trouble. I got into see a pulmonologist last week. He brings up my CT scan while my wife and I sat in his office. Takes a look and begins to tell us that the other doctors had made a mistake when they looked at the scan. Yes, I do have enlarged lymph node (twice what they should be) and it’s called sarcoidosis. There is over a 99% chance it will never turn cancerous. Then he looks for the spot on my lung that they were so worried about and tells me not to worry about that either. Apparently I have a blood vessel that is a little bigger than normal for that spot in the lung. He zoomed in on it and said, look, see how you can trace it? So it’s all great news. My wife and I were very relieved. The insurance company stopped by my house Saturday morning and gave me a check to total out the bike. So it’s gone for good. I’m not sure if I am going to ride again right now. With winter coming I have some time to think about that part. So here’s the deal of the day. I have an older Neosho 16 cu/ft Starlight trailer, 8” wheels painted black and red that needs some cosmetic work. It is road worthy, has a spare tire and rack for a cooler on the front. I don’t have pics right now but will get. I will sell the trailer and my Sears motorcycle jack both for $150.00. If anyone is interested let me know. The trailer really needs some body work and maybe a paint job, or the frame could be used as the start of a trailer project. I have pulled it for years, though. You can e mail me at whozleft@yahoo.com or call me at 740-403-1634. I live just east of Columbus Ohio. I am thinking that if I ever do get another bike, I more than likely won't get another tourer. I just don't need that big of bike again. My wife stopped wanting to travel on the bike a couple years ago, so a bigger bike is overkill. I appreciate everyone's prayers and good thoughts through these past 3 weeks. I am so glad that I can call the VentureRiders my family. Tak care and ride safe.
  8. Rode Sudbury's Xmas Toy Run Saturday . Boy was I out place there...389 scoots and Im the only one with a Dirt bike( Dua lPurpose) :rotfl: Can you spot my scoot
  9. i couldnt resist snapping a photo of this spot when we drove by it.......remember it well eh?????:rotf:
  10. I've found that SPOT is offering a rebate which is good for a free unit when you sign up for 2 years of service. I've had a modest interest in one of these units for some time and this rebate is about to push me over the edge. However, the reviews I've been reading online tonight about the SPOT service don't look too favorable but it is hard to tell if people are using the unit properly. Does anyone here have personal experience with the SPOT system and if so, what are your thoughts? Thanks, Dennis
  11. In reading up on rear brake bleeding, I found this excellent tech library article: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=490 I have course have no such modification on my '84 bikes but I was wondering if there is a fittng that could be undone to get the bulk of the air out of the high spot on the rear system line to the front line? Thanks, Brian H.
  12. OK I have 6 months left on my VR calendar. Does anyone have any plans for the next one? Will there be another contest? If not I'm going to have a bare spot on the fridge!
  13. For those of you who might use the SPOT tracking unit. Thought I would pass along this information regarding the Spot Adventures Site (www.spotadventures.com) which is free and fun. I'm sure the members that bought Spot Units will want to take advantage of the site to share their Adventures with comments and pictures, especially with all the Regional and National Rallies coming up. This can be also fun for local chapter rides. Here's an example of how you can use the site that one of our members did for our Chapter's ride last Sunday with his spot unit tracking: http://www.spotadventures.com/trip/view?trip_id=168951
  14. Ok, took these pics of the E3 2nd gen rear tire with about 16000 miles. Will be replacing with another E3. Looks like one spot on the tire was getting kind of bald. But over all I am happy with the mileage.
  15. Radio won't come on and just wanna make sure I have checked all that needs to be checked before going to dealer. - - -Radio fuse {10 amp} is not blown. - - -All connections are okay. It is my assumption that since those two things are spot on; then, the radio is kaput, there is nothing else to check and it is time to take the booger to the dealer.....Right?
  16. I was just thinking that we havnt had anything much in western Canada for rallies or meetand eats. I would like to see a show of hands of anyone that might be interested in a rally or a meetand eat in Alberta or southeastern BC next summer.( I was thinking maybe Fernie, Camrose or whereever you guys think is a good spot that we could get some people out to.) Let me know what you all think! Of course our American friends and fellow eating addicts are invited to weigh in on the subject. (pun intended!) lol! Brian
  17. One thing I don't have in my room. The chrome edges that go right below the mirrors. Trying to figure out way to cut these out of good chrome tape. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I have one set on Black Beauty, wonder if I could pull them and trace them some how? This is the spot on the farings that is first to catch anything and is first spot to make contact if you lay it down. As I did first day I owned "Ugly" Didn't make it out of the town where I bought her. Hadn't been on a Venture in a while and put my foot down in a big pool of oil.You know the rest. And this bike had never been dropped!! Is there anywhere you can still get these things??
  18. I'm back home now in Atlanta safe and sound after riding into the remnants of hurricane Faye's rain from Birmingham all the way to Atlanta. The last part of the trip I was trying to complete the Saddlesore 1000 from Amarillo to Atlanta. Which I will cover under a different post. But, I still needed to finish telling y'all the rest of the New Mexico portion of the trip which be covered in three parts. This part being # 2 which will cover from the Cimarron Canyon to Las Vegas, NM. Which was one of the most interesting parts of the trip. Leaving the Cimarron Canyon I reach a place called Eagles Nest. Where Eagles Nest Lake is. Supposedly the best Trout fishing in New Mexico but I'll never know because my fishing pole blew off the trailer somewhere in Tennessee. But I know it sure was windy all the way to Angel Fire. NM where I toured the National Vietnam War Memorial. I spent some time there and was sincerely moved by the exhibits and the movie presentation of the Vietnam Years both in country and stateside. Vietnam was the war of my generation and the images depicted brought back quite a few poignant memories. After Angel Fire as I'm entering Taos, NM I stop to check the map. While stopped I decide to answer Nature's call so I step off the road and into the woods and walk down this incline about 15 yards where I reach this creek culvert where I stand to add to the water flow of the creek. As I'm finishing up I look over to my left, and notice something strange down in the creek. It appeared to be some bones sticking out from under some clothing. The clothing appeared to be some sort of jacket. Now if it were just bones I would just assume it was some deer or animal carcuss but since it looked liked it was wearing clothes and I had never seen any wild animals wearing clothes in this sort of setting my next guess was that it was the bones of a person not an animal. Not knowing exactly what to do at that point, I decided that I probably should not get any closer to it so that I don't get totally grossed out or disrupt a crime scene should it be one. So I take a picture of it and climb back up the hill and get on my bike and ride on into town. As it turns out I find a New Mexico State Police office about two miles down the road so I stop to make sure I can ride off with my conscience being clear. So I pull in to report it. One of the Officers followed me back up the road to where I had pulled off and I lead him down the hill to the exact spot on the culvert where I first saw the bones. He evidently saw the same thing that I had seen because he immediatly gets on the radio and calls for a Supervisor and back up. While I was wondering why he needed back-up I slowly backed-up the hill. Turned out he needed a Supervisor to make a decision on what to do next and back-up for a third opinion on if it was a crime scene or not.So by the time the third, fourth and fifth cop car showed up and all of the officers had a chance to walk down the hill and stand where I first stood. They all had decided that it was very suspicious and maybe they should call for the criminal investigators to come secure the scene. It was at that point that they politely asked me if I wouldn't mind waiting to tell the criminal investigators How I happened to stumble over this exact spot all the way from Georgia by way of South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Colorado to this exact spot in New Mexico. One of them did suggest in somewhat of a joking way, I wasn't laughing, that they did have handcuffs and I could be REQUIRED to sit in the back of one of the cop cars until the investigators arrived. Seeing the futility of refusing their invitation I graciously accepted. I did however agree to sit in the back seat of one of the cars when it started raining only under the conditions that they would leave the door open and I could leave one leg out with one foot on the ground. I stayed there only as long as it rained and used the excuse that I wanted to take a picture of the double rainbow as a ploy to escape from the car. So five hours later after everyone arrived and stood on the spot on the culvert and then the ones dressed in suits got to get down in the water a drag it out of the water since they were they ones that got paid the big bucks to do that sort of thing. I was set free to go my merry way. I could have stayed there and camped out but some of the officers had been talking about the big mountain lion that had been seen in the area and if this could possibly be a cougar kill. That seemed somewhat unlikely to me since by now they all had agree that the clothing I first saw now appearred to be a large sack tied up with rope. But, to be on the safe side I opted to ride off into the night and find a safe motel well away from any wild animal danger. Which I did some hours later in Las Vegas, NM.
  19. I have a few questions about sidecars. Do they require there own license plate? Do they have there own title? Is it a rider on the insurance or a seperate policy? Do you have parking problems (finding a spot)? Are you more visible to the cagers? How does the hack affect the gas milage? Jeff
  20. Ok i found the answer to most of our problems hope this will answer a few of your questions and get you up and running again good luck Dray http://www.libertyhigh56.net/special%20pages/Country%20Technology.htm this may not be the right spot for this but i thought it was needed
  21. Well I finally finished the horn install & the cassette uninstall. I now have the perfect spot to store & operate my ipod. Dan (DNBoll)
  22. So.... I commute about 60 km a day from Dunnville to Hamilton through back country roads. They have an 80 kph speed limit and I generally cruise in at about 90 kph. Everyday there is the same group of speed freaks flying in at about Mach 2, I always think "Gees guys just set the alarm 5 minutes earlier!" A couple of weeks ago (Feb 6 or 7) its was a real crappy morning with snow, slush and slippery. I'm leading the convoy of about 6 of us, doing 65 kph because of the crap, when in the rearview I see two pickup trucks pulling into the passing lane. The first guy splashes passed me but as the second guy tries to pull back into the lane he spins out, and splashes into the slushy ditch. I was so pissed at these clowns that I not only thought "Looks freakin' good at you, goof!" but honked my horn as I went passed. I told the wife about it, and as we were driving by the spot a week or so later, I told her the spot is just ahead. We looked up to see a freshly painted white cross, with new flowers. A roadside shrine!! OMG- I'm going to Hell for sure!
  23. Tomorrow morning will be a big gut-check for me. First day of being a tobacco free Instituation. Word is convicts are going to take our place. Some idiot grabbed the spot where he will be facing about 400 to 600 convicts be theirself for a few minutes til we see how things are going to roll. Could have stayed in Control but couldn't let those young studs grab that spot. Reason this is here is this one of those time my pride or whatever it is has gotten me into a spot that could be interesting. I talk to "The Man" every day I work and have since I volunteered foir this spot. Young-uns are kind of ticked that I grabbed. Reason this is here is if you think of me from about 4:30 monday morning til about 7:30 send up a word for me. I know I didn't explain this very well but got to get in bed to be ready. Didn't know I was going to open my big mouth. Maybe I'll learn one of these days. Will let you know as soon as I get home tomorrow what happened. Only 600 of them. Wonder how many I can get before back-up gets there???
  24. Well yesterday was fun, NOT! Heard what sounded like I hit something then 10 miles later when I stopped for gas went around to check and left front flat as could be. Did something I have never done. Called someone to change it. Figured I have paid for 30 years, might as well let my insurance pay. I felt so guilty I ended up helping. At least it was a full size brand new spare. Was able to have the tire plugged, and my mechanic says it was in a good spot so should last.
  25. WHO WANTS TO MEET AND DRIVE UP TO McRae's Big River Grille IN MICHIGAN BY AUTO ON SAT THE 26TH. PLEASE POST AND LETS PICK A SPOT TO MEET. LOOKING TO SEE EVERYONE SO LETS DO IT. Joe
