  1. Just bought a 2009 Yamaha Royal Star. JYAVP04E39A015375 Has 3,000 miles on it. Need to know what it is exactly like what generation, what specific model, If when looking for parts I see "XVC1300", or "XVZ1300", is it a "Star" Royal venture, or Yamaha Royal venture, or what?? Sorry to sound so dumb but I fell in love RoyalStar Venture on bill of sale. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc29b3127ccefc0560aa75ce00000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/
  2. Yesterday morning when I was waking up, I could hear this "beeping" sound. Definately not a sound that I'd normally hear and it was inconsistent. At first, I thought I was still dreaming as the sound seemed "far away". As I slowly woke up, I realized I wasn't dreaming so I got up and went looking for the source of the sound .... I found it in the garage. It was my GPS ... crap! I thought... why is that on?? I discovered, after running the scoot for a while on Sunday that I'd left the key on and in so doing, totally drained the battery. Crap!!! I'd just charged it all up the day before, now I have to do it again.... probably not a good thing for this 2 yr old battery... but we'll see.... For a while I couldn't figgure out how I'd managed to leave the key on .... then it dawned on me... I flipped it on after shutting the bike off to see if the fan was coming on and forgot to flip it off again .... DOH Last Friday, I forgot to put my bottom teef (teeth) in and didn't realize it until I was part way enroute to work. Now, this is not like me at all ... I'm a "spectacles testicles wallet watch" person ... (guess I better add "teef" to that... ) Other examples....I also find that I can't remember jokes anymore. I stumble when trying to remember names of actors I should never be forgetting. etc, etc The whole point of all of this is .... are the years finally catching up to me? .... is my mind starting to falter? .... am I losing my mind? aarrrrggghhhhhhhhhh.... I'm growing OLD!!! :crying: (dang, hope I don't have to buy a new ....... what??)
  3. for Riders that don't have music . What do you think ? http://www.easy-motorcycle.com/ruckus-50-audio-mp3-fm-radio-speaker-mirror-motorcycle-scotter-p-502.html?zenid=tiajvfjs364vbt6oh52hvqgah4
  4. Has anyone put BUB slip on mufflers on the RSTD. Was it easy install do they sound good , are you glad you did ?
  5. I'm not sure I have a fuel pump problem or not. I've had it down for a couple of days for some mods. Lowered the front forks and put in some Ponch gauges. I had the fairing completely off and back on. I started it and let it run to test the gauges and everything seemed to do just fine. I could hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds when I turned the ignition on. Now after I put the fairing back on and finished up with everything I turn the ignition on and there is no fuel pump sound. It still starts and runs but I don't get any pump sound. Now here's the question......What's wrong with it? One more thing I have an 94 Road Star and I took the fuel pump off of it, some time ago, does anyone ever run RSV's without fuel pumps on a permanent basis?
  6. My wife drives an 2006 Malibu 4cyl auto. It is making a humming noise in the front end. I have rotated the tires, no change. jacked up and checked for any free play in both sides, nothing that i could feel. While still in the air with car in drive the noise is there and only changes with the speed of the wheels or vehicle speed. Don't think it is related to engine or trans cause the sound does not change with the rpm only wheel speed. The sound is not a clunking sound that I would think a bad cv joint but like the sound of big mud tires on a truck! Could it be a hub assembly going bad and not have any noticeable looseness? Any thought or help would be appreciated.
  7. Here is a good one. When i start the Venture its sounds great. I drive off and within a very short distance I get this very loud sound that will only stop when I pull over or at the very least almost stop rolling. Then when I take off everything is fine! I can only describe the sound as " a sound a worn out drill would make???" I have tried to activate the starter when the noise was sounding but that did not seem to make any difference!! Any sugjestions? Thanks Ryan On a happier note! I was still driving the bike yesterday and plan to take it as far as I can into the winter months. I do have a goal of driving around each month! Doing so with safety in mind.
  8. We went to get a cup off coffee last night and on the way home I seemed to have picked up a new sound. Brenda describes it as a stuck leaf or something stuck somewhere that is flapping around and I concur that is seems like something is vibrating. Engine temp and voltage are good, tach is solid and the speedo has an occasional flutter around 55-65 (but the cable has been replaced by the shop last year and I know what a squealing speedo cable sounds like.). Brake disks were cold to the touch when we arrived home (it was in the 30's). The sound is not continuous and will vary in intensity, starting abruptly and fading out or vice versa. It does not appear to be speed or RPM related! I'm kinda stumped but am leaning towards checking the speedo cable or maybe an exhaust leak at the front header?? Any other ideas??
  9. Took my VR out for a ride today and noted that the fuel gauge, which had been down to 4 bars yesterday, was now showing full. In fact there was a bar where the "Full" usually resides. I had it up to 200 km (about 125 miles) with no change, then as I took a fairly sharp right hander at an intersection, it dropped down to 5 bars and the "Full" reappeared. Once I straightened up, it went back to about 6 bars. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this (Besides some prohibitively expensive part needing replacement.)? Oh yeah, also...I've not had previous experience with a VR before and do't know anyone with one around here. So...on deceleration, when it gets down to around 2,000 r.p.m., there's a sound coming from under the "Gas tank" that sounds like...well...slapping, popping. I know that's not the best description, but for now, it's all I have. It may be perfectly normal, but I've never had that particular sound on any bike I've owned before. And finally (Don't newbies get annoying after a while?), when I start it up (Hot or cold) the motor spins a couple of revs then seems to "hang" for a split second then starts. Again, does that sound normal? I'm really going to have to find someone with a MKII to do some comparing.
  10. I was out browsing at my local Yamaha dealership this morning and they had a 2002 or 2003 Venture sitting there, I opened the door for the cassette player and noticed that there's a small hole on the right hand side, probably where you'd plug in your iPod? Once your iPod is plugged in, can you operate your volume up and down from the handlebar controller? How about skipping over to next song, is that something else that is possible using the handlebar controller? Also, how would you rate the sound quality that's on the Venture's stereo? And is it loud enough to keep up with wind noise at higher speeds? It must sound pretty good I would think, especially since there's even a pair of speakers located at the back of the bike too.
  11. Hey guys, Wanted to pass a long some pics of the change over from the stock mufflers. Used the template measurements from earlier posts for the brackets and it worked great. I left the baffles intact on the RK cans for now as some guys mentioned the sound gets better with some miles - can always go back later and pop out one or both of them if I want more noise. Picked up the cans on Craiglist for $20 and $40 for the clamps so not a bad mod cost wise and took a short run yesterday and the sound is definitely better. The info on this site is invaluable - thanks to everyone. By the way '08 RSV I bought a month ago with 1600K on her - now 3600.
  12. Hi gang possibly heading to Portland Oregon next Thursday, :scared:This trip is to buy an engine for one of my project bikes a 1983 VF1000f Honda Interceptor. I had a trans problem, had replaced it's broken bits ,but it didn't do well in the assembly. So I found a replacement with it's (oh the dreaded second gear sound familiar!!) So while I am traveling down ,I was wondering if there are anyone who wants to together on the way? This was suggested by Rocket (Paul) That some parts for my Venture may be gleaned from this together so any:stickpoke: takers? Thanks Mike in Calgary..
  13. I have one of these Kodak Video cameras and it does an awesome job for the money. I videoed a friend preaching so he could send it to a church that was considering calling him as a pastor and the video and sound were very good. It is 49 bucks today only. You will want to invest in a SD carrd for more video time. This works well!!!
  14. The CB comes on and channels can be changed, the numbers fade out in about two seconds. there is no sound coming through the speakers. Anyone know what else can be checked
  15. Hello Everyone, Just got my 1983 yamaha Venture last night. the bike is Very clean I will post pics soon. The Issue I need help with is the Sony radio the power is on it searches switches to all the modes but no sound. the first time I turned it on I heard the little pop on sound through the speakers but now I don't even here that . the guy I got it off of siad it worked but he never used it. it's almost like it muted but it doesn't show that on the screen. there is a scan button on the laft handle bar and it also seams to work but I don't see anything about a mute on it either. no static no sound any thoughts anyone??? Thanks Mike
  16. My bike is a 1992 Venture Royale. I had thought my TCI is bad, still might be, but I am stumped on what is going on with this bike now. This is an intermittent problem... sometimes the bike works just fine. I have spark at all 4 plugs when initially cranking, maybe for 1-2 cycles and then no spark to any of them. The bike will crank over once , sound like it wants to fire and then nothing else.... If I try long enough I get a really loud backfire. The spark seems like it might be a bit weak also. I'm googling and searching the forum and purusing the manual, but not sure what to check for since it has spark on the initial revolution. Could this be a pickup coil problem.?
  17. Anyone here read the story that Zimmerman, the mechanic, in Motorcycle Cruiser Magazine, had about the Harley Davidson corporate executives? Makes them sound like incompetent and corrupt are their bylaws.
  18. I just got a 1986 Venture Royale with 33,000 miles on it.We just took it on a 1200 mile loop thru California and all went well. On freeway riding my rpms were arond 3800 to 4100 for speeds between 65 to75 mph. Does that sound normal for that speed and is that motor happy running that speed all day long? I'm used to lower rpm's as my last bike was a road king.
  19. A few people were asking me how I like the new black ceramic Rinehart pipes on my bike after a week or so, so I have a good report to shed some light on how they sound, etc. The pipes mentioned in http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51473 sound quite nice. I'm able to get out of the neighbourhood quietly enough without setting off alarms or waking up babies.. They have a nice rumble, the have a nice bark when you drop the hammer. And they cruise very well. My buddy and I did a 1300 mile trip to Mount Washington again, just for some video footage. We did the I95 doing highway speeds of 80+ mph (and we were being passed all the time.. wow) and some of the back roads from the I95 into NH and White Mountain range.. Very interesting results for performance and fuel mileage. Doing highway speeds, the noise is loud enough you'd want to wear earplugs. I wear then when highway traveling anyway to protect against wind noise so this isn't a big deal for me. The more load on the engine at highway speeds, as in head winds or hill climbing for example, the louder they will be. But when you're cruising nicely with little or no load, the pipes have this nice hum to them. As with most RSV, the faster you go, the more head winds you encounter, the worse your fuel mileage gets and compared to the trip we did in May-June with the other pipes, my highway mileage was about the same, very sucky lol. With speeds in the 80+ we got as bad as 35 mpg, which isn't bad considering, but averaged out around 38 mpg which is the norm for my bike. But it's when we hit the back roads doing 40, 50 and 60 mph that the mileage got interesting.. With the Rineharts on the bike, the bike feels to have a lot more torque than ever before. Whereas at higher gears and lower revs, you can open the throttle a little more and feel it pull more instead of having to open the throttle a whole lot before feeling any pull but you've dumped so much fuel for so little gain, your mileage would suck. However with the Rineharts, it actually pulls with little throttle applied. Very nice. On the flats I could cruise 50 mph in 5th around 2500 rpm, and when encountering a slight incline, a little more throttle would climb the hill and settle down nicely. If you've done the back roads between Maine and NH you'll appreciate how much nicer this was not having to shift down and up all the time. Again to emphasize, this is without lugging or chugging the engine.. Nice. The sound and noise level on the back roads is very tame and satisfying! A nice mellow deep tone which wasn't hard on the ears at all. I ride the back roads without ear plugs and the radio tunes coming out at volume 17.. typically at highway I would have it up to 21. When you climb hills and such, you get the barking of the pipes but it's not abrasive on the ears. Bottom line for "this" rider: Love the sound, love the performance.. the price was right, they look great on this bike, they sound smooth and mellow and give that satisfying bark when you drop the hammer.. I love it when someone comments "Now THAT's what a Harley should sound like" not realizing it's a Yamaha, and I reply.. "yes, you're right, this IS what a Harley should sound like, thanks!".. and ride away.. hehe (as a note, my buddy rode with my Larossa pipes on his bike and I could hear him behind me.. drowned out my tunes!! lol.. )
  20. I installed a pair of black ceramic coated Rinehart slip ons on my RSV and wow, what a a nice sound! Once the pipes are seasoned in the sound is softened and still throaty with a nice bark when you drop the hammer, yet at cruise the sound is louder than normal but not at all harsh. They look awesome on a Midnight RSV. I'll see if I can some audio / video for how they sound if people are interested. I got these at a cut rate from a Canadian company, nice!
  21. I bought this 90 VR earlier this year and with the help of the threads on this site I've been able to fix just about everything, but now I'm down to my last two things and hopefully you guys and gals can give me a little direction... First, I just put new fork seals in, and I"m not to proud to admit it was my first time doing this. But here is the issue, once in a while it sounds like the springs are hitting bottom, it's especially prominent when I'm braking and hit a bump it sounds like a gunshot sometimes. I filled the forks up to the specified level, so I'm not sure what this could be, short of possibly the anti-dive locking up? It's got me stumped but that really wasn't very hard to do... Second, the rear brake makes a chattering sound, It's not a constant chatter, usually when I'm down to a slow speed. I can't hear it when I brake at speed, and I've even run it around without my helmet on to try and hear it. I'm going to take the rear master off this week and see if I can see anything obviously wrong with it. the brakes seem to work fine it's just making this weird sound. Other than these two things the bike is great, I ran it out to Moab a couple weeks ago and it's a dream on the highway and in the curves it keeps up with my kids R1. I don't mind spending the time or money to fix it up it didn't cost me much to start with.. Thanks in advance for all your insight.. . Bob
  22. i am getting ready to sell my wing, and need some help. not sure what to ask. it is a 2008, premium sound, dark red metallic, about $3000.00 in accessories, 15,000 mi., looks showroom new, been ridden in the rain once, almost new tires, includes extra rear wheel. i was thinking along the lines of $16,000 does this sound like a fair price? bill
  23. Wondering if anyone experienced something similar or can confirm diagnosis. 2006 RSV. 46K miles. Many miles and a few years ago , I inserted a three-way stereo aux line splitter inside the faring...1) to GPS, 2) to Satellite radio/iPod, 3) to cassette aux jack. Also have a Buddy Rich cable. Stereo sound through any of the three stereo aux extension cables worked OK for most of the time, though have had to live with much lower volume levels, especially if two items were powered on at the same time (I.e. GPS and iPod) compared to the volume level of the AM/FM radio. Over time, the audio from the GPS has developed a lot of snap/crackle/pop and the audio from the iPod would drop in and out of the headset speakers (sometimes left speaker, sometimes right speaker) - not getting complete stereo. I would jiggle the male jack into the GPS or iPod and could hear the stereo fidelity cut in and out. I would replace the aux extension cable and use dielectric grease and everything would be good for a few months. Problem progressed such that I can't get stereo fidelity out of either GPS or iPod (I.e. half the sound in only one speaker). to the point where jiggling the extension cables doesn't fix it and replacing the extension cables doesn't fix it. I also replaced the three-way splitter to no avail. Through process of elimination I have found that the female aux pigtail that is hard wired into the radio is not putting out stereo sound, so every splitter and extension cable downstream is also not putting out stereo sound. Would I be correct in believing that the radio aux pigtail has failed? Should this be covered under warranty? Major bummer. Anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks David
  24. I was googling something else and came accross this article. I don't know anything about AIS, but with everyone talking about the RSV chirping, I thought this might be interesting... AIS, What's chirping? Written by StarMyram, on 06-22-2006 19:16 I used to have an 04 V-Star 650 Classic and it made a funny noise while coasting on highway and cruising in town at low rpm. Just got a brand new 05 Roadstar Silverado ...Ya know, this bike is beautiful, torquey, and a nice low "bump, bump, bump" exhaust tone at low rpm. But for crying out loud, WHAT is this annoying chirpy sound?! This bike has it even worse than the V-star! Well, the other night I was fumbling around the running engine with my fingers and eneded up with my finger in the air intake tube hanging down off the AIS pump. The chirping stopped! HA! Found thee source of the noise! Did some research as to where these little pipes went to and fro on the AIS. I decided I could do without the peice of crap on my bike. (don't tell Kyoto! ) I got out my tools and removed the AIS pump and it's filter and all the brackets. Removed the vaccuum pulse line from the intake manifold and put a cap on the tee. I left the chrome tubes attatched to the heads, I used the one left over hose (pushed a 1" long wooden dowel into the hose to seal it off to avoid exhaust gas travelling from one cylinder port to the other through the chrome lines and burning up the hose) and installed the hose to each chrome line. After admiring the new clean, uncluttered look of the front of the engine without AIS, I started the engine and admired the clean V-twin engine sound, with a nice clean exhaust tone with no "fluffing" from the tailpipes (the way it should be.) I took the bike for a ride and Voila! No more chirping sound! Yeah Baby! I understand Californians have emmission laws and lots more tubing on the bikes for charcoal canisters and such so I don't know about thse bikes. Removal of the AIS system is not necessary for performance gains since the AIS does not rob power or performance. But it's just plain ugly to look at, and it annoyed me to no end because of the crappy sound it adds to the engine. Here in Alberta, I can get rid of it without some emmissions police hassling me too. I plan to make steel plates to cover the ports in the heads and remove the chrome tubes completely when I get time this coming winter.
  25. This was a quick video from the trip back from MD. It was my first attempt at videoing while riding. The Youtube quality isn't as good as the original. It's also kinda shaky, I left my vent open, so there's more wind noise, and the sun was at our back, degrading the quality even more. I promise, it wasn't as scary as it looks. The music isn't added. It is from my stock stereo and MP3 at 70-80 mph, and doesn't sound too bad. We were having a blast...making memories. Angel is learning how to make the videos now, so I can concentrate on my driving. Hope you enjoy it. Go to full screen, and turn the sound up. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dla8PqzKNn0]YouTube- Going home from MD 2010[/ame]
