  1. Severe weather warnings in Buffalo NY. 12 TO 18 more inches expected FOR BUFFALO ...east and the areas north of Buffalo by tomorrow morning..Left work 4hrs. early after battling to get in this morning........Taters has a party tonight and says she is going....(she ain't right in the head) BONGOBOB, I thought YOU lived in the snow belt? Keep that stuff to yourself, I don't want it.........I HATE SNOW !!!!!:bang head:
  2. Off work today because of snow. We had a 2 hour delay on Monday, and got hit with another snow storm this morning. I told Ron that I have given up on my Christmas Day ride. There will be too much salt and other debris now. I told him he can get out the tool box and start tearing her apart. He has a bunch of things to do. So I figure if he starts now, it might be back together at the end of March rather than May which is what usually happens. Oh my. No leather for months. It is going to be a looooooooooooooooooong winter! Yama Mama:snow2::sleigh:
  3. It's a 1999 Green one, 4,955 miles on it, got it for $1,650. Hopefully we got enough snow last night to get the trails opened up around here! Later, Scooter Bob
  4. Well the title says it all. With all of the hype about the coming great white death, gloom and doom, etc etc etc... There is less snow on the ground now than when the storm started yesterday. The 40-50mph winds are interesting though. All of my nice snow went away, those bums in MN took all of the snow for themselves and didn't leave any in the storm to share.
  5. Think I'd rather have snow right now. We have a fire that's been burning for several days not far from us....and it was deliberately lit!!! We couldn't sleep last night as the smoke was really bad. Fire fighters working 12 hour shifts, and the wind is creating big problems for them. I'd like to get hold of the lousy buggers...I'd give them burn!!!
  6. Yep, they are calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow today and another 3 to 5 inches overnight with 30 mph winds.....guess winter is on its way..back to the 40's on sunday... time to remove the air condititioners. lol....I hate snow !!!!..but on the plus side, I do have a new snow blower to try out................
  7. It was almost 60 out there today! So we just had to go for a ride. We went to my Dad's place...about an hour away thru some nice twisties and visited for a short spell. Then on the way home....the temperature dropped like a rock! It was pretty chilly but well worth it. Gotta love it.....3rd week of November and still able to ride! Last year we had snow that stayed on the grouond from late October! But I'm going to have to pull the plug sometime or I'll never get the work they need done!
  8. Looking at the weather I topped off the tank added winterizer went for a ride pulled in shut the fuel off then let her run until she died. Now the question is should this be done I just did what I do to the snow thrower but thinking a little now I wonder if it is good to let the carbs dry out? I hate this time of year store the bike, boat and camper and try and get all the things off the honey-do list before spring.
  9. OK, ok, I was just joking about the plow and snow tires, but I wanted to get your attention. I have been investigating "Hippo Hands" and think they are viable solution to cold hands, but wanted to see if anyone has feedback about them. Some feedback is the wind puts some pressure on the clutch and brake levers when you're on the highway. Other people have said they are "the best thing since sliced bread". The ones I need are $73.00 so I just don't want to throw the money away if they aren't going to do the trick. I'm also curious about any quick removable insulated chaps. Not the leather kind, but maybe a snow suit type material with some down feathers and maybe some velcro straps that can be easily-on/easily-off. Any feedback would be really appreciated as the cold weather is rapidly approaching. Thanks, Woody
  10. Snow chains on the Venture? Well, not exactly....but I did get caught in the freak snowstorm in Amarillo over the weekend. Texas had snow and it was 65 degrees in Pennsylvania... The first 3 shots show my bike in the carport at a friends place and the road out front. The next pic...um...no comment. But the last 2 pics verify the conditions the next day: Snow, and yet the trees are still sporting leaves, and waterfowl still hanging around. Mother nature caught us ALL by surprise!
  11. I just bought a 2009 RSV with 2500km on it on July 20th. 1st owner bought it March 3/10 so basically it is a brand new bike. He bought it from Snow City Cycle in Scarborough. When I took it to the shop I normally deal with in Cambridge (Performance Cycle) for the safety I was expecting they'd look at it and say "new bike, nothing wrong" and give me the safety certificate without really looking at it. When the tech came out to take the bike into the shop in I pointed out that the left side saddlebag lid wouldn't open without hitting the passenger intercom connection. He said that the intercom connector was in the wrong location and said he'd try to put it where it should be. So, expecting a quick turn around to get the safety certificate.... turned out to be about 45 minutes because they basically did a PDI (pre-delivery inspection) on it as well ! The list of things assembled incorrectly were : 1) passenger intercom in wrong location (Performance Cycle put it in the right location) 2) passenger intercom wire pinched because of the way it was routed (hopefully not damaged internally but won't know for sure until I get an intercom) 3) screws used in trunk to fasten it to the bike are not the ones that are supposed to be used and are missing the rubber washers 4) chrome piece in front of wind screen has the middle mounting clips broken (tech said that if it isn't put in place correctly it is easy to break the clips) 5) antennas are reversed I called Snow City Cycle and they basically said that since the original owner never mentioned these things to them then the bike was assembled correctly and won't offer to correct the issues (the chrome peice apparently can cost around $200 for the part) Yamaha Canada said that the pdi done by Snow City should have picked up the assembly problems. I said that if the person assembling the bike incorrectly also does the pdi - how would they know they screwed up? They said that it isn't a Yamaha warranty issue and it is soley up to Snow City Cycle if they want to do anything about the issues. I know these aren't major issues (the chrome peice and pinched intercom wires are my main concerns) but has anyone else had issues with Snow City Cycle?
  12. for those of you who use it you know those who don't shame on you . had a 81 honda cb 650 given to me had not been started in 3 yrs and was buried this year under the 24 inchs of snow we had and then all the snow from the st pieled on top of it .after cking all the wiring and for spark ( everything worked) cleaned gas tank carb floates where frozen fuel running every where . I filled fuel line going to carbs with the magic elixer let it sit over night and the next day filled tank with fuel and tried it . Started first try no float sticking . bike runs fine. now just clen up left. Seafoam does it again. Bill
  13. For those of you that don't believe we have snow every month ..... check out Tuesday in Alberta! http://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/storm_watch_stories3&stormfile=jaspersnow_13_07_2010?ref=ccbox_weather_bottom_title
  14. Back in 1991 I bought a new, candy ruby red, 1200 sporty from Minnig Cycle Center in Greeley, CO. The sporty was my first brand new bike. It was February and although the weather was cold and looked like snow, I decided to ride the sporty home some 50 miles. All was well until I found myself behind a ratty old travel trailer on a 2 lane road in a no passing zone. I was travelling about 50mph. Leaves, debris and snow floated off the roof of the trailer which I managed to avoid. Moving along I made the mistake of looking at the passing scenery. Just as I focused back on the road, a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood blasted right at me. It had blown off the roof of the travel trailer. I somehow avoided colliding with the plywood, but found myself shooting down the snow covered shoulder nearly out of control. I was ticked. I regained control and sped up to the trailer to alert the moron driver pulling the travel trailer, only to meet a 2nd and a 3rd sheet of plywood! This scared the bejeebies out of me as I wasn't expecting more plywood and I was travelling much faster this time. I hit the shoulder again, only this time it was pea gravel covered in snow. I laid the bike over and this put a softball sized dent in the tank. I was glad to be alive though. I think there are a dozen lessons or more here. To this day I stay back from travel trailers.
  15. Tonight and Tomorrow ...Winter Snow Storm Watch :crying:
  16. Had a wonderful ride yesterday around the mountains of east Tennessee and western North Carolina. Got to ride a little on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but much of it in the area I was in was closed. I rode across the Lynn Cove Viaduct near Grandfather Mountain, took a detour south and then back on to Little Switzerland. It is amazing how much tree damage there is there. In some areas, almost all the top parts of the limbs are broken off of every tree. There have also been many trees down in the areas that are open. I bet the higher areas around Mt Mitchell or south of Asheville were really bad as they were 3,000 feet higher than where I was. Most of the temp along the Parkway was around 80º and when I came down 226A to Marion, NC it was 88º. I went back over the mountain to highway 80, the Rooster tail, toward Burnsville and back across Roan Mountain. When going across Roan, which is a little over 5,500 feet at the gap at about 6pm, it was still about 65º. As I crossed over in to Tennessee, there was a lot of snow beside the road, most, much more than a foot deep. The road did not have any snow, but there was still more sand a stuff on the road than I wanted to ride on. But overall, it was a marvelous ride. What was also great was when I filled up in Spruce Pine, I got 49mpg. I have gotten 48 several times after making the needle adjustment and replacing diaphragms, but this was the first time I got 49mpg. RandyA

  18. I just did everything possible that I can think of to bring winter back. I got the bike cleaned up and running. I put all of the snow shovels away. I took the snow brush and ice scraper out of the truck. Started taking down the storm windows and putting up the screens. I don't know what else I can do to bring back winter???
  19. More snow in the forecast for Sat and Sun for the Tulsa area.... :crying::crying:
  20. Finally enough snow has melted off the 4+ miles of gravel to provide a safe path to the pavement! So tomorrow is the big day; my first ride since the snow hit last October! Tomorrow's temps are supposed to be mid 40's to maybe even 50F! My bike will be mud covered when I return home, but it will be worth it. It's been a long snowy winter and we'll likely get a few more storms before summer, but the road is open and I'm headed out for a ride!
  21. I live in Central Mississippi... I get up this morning and it is snowing HARD. So far we got 4 inches and it is not supposed to stop till noon. I believe some of you northern folks have wished this on us down here in the south. We do not own, nor can you buy any where around here...tire chains...snow shovels...de-icing gear. They have cancelled school cause folks do not know how to drive in snow. Knock it off. This is not funny.
  22. I know we have all heard it but it can happen so easy. No damage done but had snow shovel and was making good imitation of snow plow. Snow flying everywhere . Next thing I know I'm sitting down and couldn't get up!! Took me a while to stagger in to house. Sitting tooo much since accidents. Just take it easy when you get out there. It is very easy to push it harder than you realize you are doing.
  23. In case any of you snow birds are tired of the cold, ice, and snow...(actually, it snowed here last week. A very rare event for us). It was 66 degrees of perfect weather out at Lake Moultrie today:sun1: South Carolina still has plenty of room for those who want to move down here, so you can ride year 'round. I was actually born in upstate NY way back in '58. A day like today helps remind me why my family moved from there to here in 1961. Come on down and ride a spell. I'll put out the coffee (or sweet iced tea) for ya. Rusty
  24. Toke a 45 min ride today.38 degrees but it was worth it. Did not go far but had a good ride. Got some strange looks from people passing. Got a snow watch out for tonite and monday. It will it never end.
  25. Wow - I just got off the phone with Troy at Customleathers - great guy. I'm getting a bib - saddle covers - and grips - for $175 and they will be tan!! Now if the snow would only melt - more snow today and Sunday! We will break the all time record this year.
