  1. Got a strange one here, at least to me anyway. A few of months ago one of the fog lights on my bike would be slow to start when turned on while the other one lit immediately. After a few weeks the slow light stopped working. As a test I replaced it with a spare light and it worked. Assumed it was just a faulty bulb and began using the spare rather than find the problem with the original one. Fast forward a couple of months and that spare light started getting slow to start too and after a week or so it also stopped working. Today I checked the voltage across the two supply connections which was about 13.5 at an idle. Plugged one of the connections back into the light and checked the voltage across the supply line and the light line and it was the same 13.5. Seems to me power at the supply line but no light would indicate a burnt out bulb or some other internal circuit issue. If the bulb were burnt out there should have been no voltage indicated with the second test. Didn't have time to open the light up to check further. What am I missing? The bulbs used are yellow H3's which are not readily available around here. I could try a white H3 but I'm going to order a set of HD H3 bulbs and give them a try so I didn't want to pay for a bulb that would not see much use.
  2. Cletus is passing by Billy Bob's hay barn one day when, through a gap in the door, he sees Billy Bob doing a slow and sensual striptease in front of an old green John Deere. Buttocks clenched, he performs a slow pirouette, and gently slides off first the right strap of his overalls, followed by the left. He then hunches his shoulders forward and in a classic striptease move, lets his overalls fall down to his hips, revealing a torn and frayed plaid shirt. Then, grabbing both sides of his shirt, he rips it apart to reveal his stained T-shirt underneath. With a final flourish, he tears the T-shirt from his body, and hurls his baseball cap onto a pile of hay. Having seen enough, Cletus rushes in and says,"What the heck are you doing, Billy Bob?" "Jeez, Cletus, ya scared the bejeezers out of me," says an obviously embarrassed Billy Bob. "But me'n the Ol' Lady been havin’ trouble lately in the bedroom d'partment, and the therapist suggested I do 'something sexy to a tractor'." [Don't make me 'splain this to you!]

  5. and here are a few pic's to prove it! really just went looking for a new washing machine for the wife so i took along new member ColoRado I had to go slow so he could keep up but i didnt mind waiting at each corner for him:7_6_3[1]: http://www.thumboctagonbarn.org/
  6. After all of the discussion of improved slow speed handling that leveling links provide I decided to make a set last Friday. Following the instruction posted in the technical section I made a set from 1/4 x 1 1/4 steel bar from Home Depot. After letting the paint on them dry I installed them and took slow trip around the neighborhood. Wow, they did improve the slow speed handling. Great! I thought. So yesterday I had a 300 mile ride planned with my riding buddies going over roads we've been on dozens of times. A lot of twisties and sweeping curves with good smooth pavement. We hit the curves and the bike was a handful to keep under control. It was extremely "twitchy" and required constant corrections. Without the links I could just set the bike up lay into the curves with a smooth transistion through them. I know it's contrary to popular opinon here, but I don't like them and I plan to go back to the stock links today. Dennis
  7. > I developed a slow leak in my front Avon Tire this Spring and have been adding some air about once a week. This past week I had my local dealer replace my rear tire and had him take a look into my front tire leak, what he found was a white corosion on my rims, he polished them out with a rotary wire brush and that seems to have taken care of my leak. I was sold on the Ride On Tire Sealant untill now, but I am not planning on putting it back in my tires because of the corosion problems. I was wondering if any other members are having the same problem........Jack " Keep The Shinny Side Up and the Rubber Side Down....."
  8. SO one of the spacers is missing (the bolt kindly stayed in the trunk) that stands the saddlebag off the frame... Anyone have a good replacement suggestion other than ordering one from the (notoriously slow and expensive) Yammy Parts Shop?? Can I get something similar at a local hardware store?
  9. Got a new battery about a year or year and a half ago. Everything seemed fine and then last year, towards the end of the season, I had the flat on the way to Denver. Took it down to the dealer there to have a new tire put on and ,when I went to get it, the battery barely turned the bike over reset the trip meter when it cranks slow. Since then I've experienced slow cranking a couple times. I took the battery to the Interstate place and had it tested and they said "the batter tests fine". However, before taking it in I had it on the trickle charger and, since I'd taken it out of the bike I had it in the warm building before taking it over. I kept it on the trickle charger all winter. First time I tried to start it about 4 weeks ago it cranked slow and reset the trip meter. Put it back on the charger and 2 weeks ago it started well, no trip meter reset. Road about 60 miles. Left it off the charger just to see what would happen. Fast forward to today. Went to ride this morning and started the bike before putting anything on. Bike cranked slow. Nothing on the speedo, fuel, trip meter. I've blown the fuse for that before so I'm thinking it's the fuse but would the battery and slow cranking blow that fuse? I'm still thinking I got a dud battery and that, when cold, it doesn't act like it does when warm. I know, in another post someone mentioned something about a power connection behind the battery box so I'm going to check that out as well.
  10. I had asked earlier about a dual sport for my son. Thanks for all the advice. He decided that he wanted to start on a 49 CC scooter. We found him a nice year old Chinese made one last Friday. It only has about 150 miles on it. Well, on Sunday, Doreen's family got together here in Madison for Easter. I thought I would take the scooter for a spin since it was such a nice day. As I attempted to slow down to check for traffic before leaving the parking lot, the front brake locked up and I dumped it. The damage to the scooter is minimal, mostly cosmetic, and possibly the triple tree (or a resonable facsimile thereof). Me, on the other hand, scrapped my knee (the right one with the artificial joint) and landed with most of my weight on my right shoulder. I am going to see the DR Wednesday in Sioux Falls (VA) and find out what is wrong with it. I can move it in every direction, with pain, but not too bad if I go in slow motion. I am really glad it was not my Venture!!!!! I think it probably would have landed on my leg and I would really have problems then. Thanks for listening, and keep your fingers crossed it is not something too serious. Dave

  13. Hi Everyone, I have a 1984 Venture Royale that has had a slow leak in the system for several years! I loose 50% in 30 to 45 min. (front and back shocks). I have soaped all the lines,, and I do not see any signs of a leak!! Has anyone had this same problem?? Thanks, Steve
  14. I took Blu out for a couple hours today and i almost feel human again. I was down to the last fuel bar and still had enough seafoam to cause a let of very smelly smoke. It took a bit to warm up but once it ran a bit, I took to the road. I rode it to the station and filled up. there was just a bit of flutter taking off but after a few min on the interstate, everything smoothed out and she was silk again. I had not ridden it since I had trouble with height and almost dumped it at a stop sign. After Yammer Dan and others helped me through the settings, I got a mud wasp nest out of the shock area and I could flat foot her. I decided to go play in the slow traffic and get used to it. I was amazed that I never had to put my feet down until I was totally stopped. She balanced very well even going really slow. I tried some tight turns. It was no effort to pull into a parking space in an empty lot pull through the spot and u back into the third spot with no problem. As much as I would like a RSV, I hope the guy does not come up with the money this weekend. Thanks for the help guys!
  15. First off, Happy New Years everyone! Hope to get a chance to ride more this year with ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Been having an issue since Biketoberfest with slow leaks in both tires. Running Avon Venoms, maybe 8k on them. tires seem to be in ok shape and have bunches of tread on them. I'd like to think they have plenty of miles left. Went down, filled both to specs and sprayed some soapy water on them. Both of them are leaking badly on both sides of the rims???????????????? I've removed both and hope to get them to the stealer tomorrow to have them busted down and hopefuly resealed. Is this wishful thinking or do I need new tires or worse new rims??????????????????????????
  16. I am in the process of installing the shindengen voltage regulator. The question I have is if I install this in the air duct under the radio will it increase interference with the radio in any way? Being the three wires from the stator run into the regulator. I am also going to remove my tachometer and fix it, if possible. Mine has always been slow to react to changes in engine RPM. I removed it once and lubed it up thereby fixing the problem with it. But it has now gone back to slow response again. Has anyone a spare tach if so how much do you need for it.
  17. I couldn't find anything on this in the searches I did....so here goes. I have noticed at slow speeds where my steering lightly locks. It is in the straight position and is a noticeable "slot" where it requires more pressure to turn it. It is getting to be annoying at slow speeds. Took a weekend trip and it seemed worse this past weekend. I have tightened the steering head a while back and the bounce when it's in the air is still on the loose side. Any info would be appreciated.
  18. I have on ly had my 06' venture for a week. Today I put my Garmin gps on and went for a ride(I know my Garmins speedo is accurate) It showed anywhere between 3 and 5 mph to slow, it also is jittery instead of smooth, like a real needle would be. Any suggestions.
  19. Finally got the nerve to take a jigsaw to the stock windshield that came on the V Star, that sucker was 23 inches tall, now its just a tad over 19 inches tall, looks much better, and now I can see over it. Wasn't to hard to do, just had to take it slow and easy. I need to thank :thumbsup:Lowell and Steve Wagner for the tips on how to do it. I will be leaving it on for the ride to Memphis.
  20. I am currently taking the RiderCoach training to become an MSF instructor. One of our homework assignments involved a discussion of "how to setup the bike for a turn". MSF has a technique that involves the acronym SLPR. Slow Look Press Roll. Reference page 21 of MSF's BRC Handbook for more information. http://msf-usa.org/CurriculumMaterials/BRC_Handbook_Vs7.1_noprint.pdf The assignment was handed out on a sheet of paper and looked like this: ****************************************************** RiderCoach prep assignment Report Slow Look Press Roll -or- Slow Look Roll Press 1.) Explain the difference between SLOW, LOOK, PRESS, ROLL (SLPR) and SLOW LOOK ROLL PRESS (SLRP) 2.) Which technique do you use and why? 3.) In your opinion, which is the best technique for the novice, and why? ****************************************************** Any experts here care to answer? How do you negotiate a turn? How should a novice prepare to negotiate a turn? My response is posted below.
  21. So, with a little over 400 miles on a pair of new Avon Venoms, I gotta say...WOW! Huge improvement over the stock tires. Quieter, smoother ride especially at highway speeds. As most Venom owners state, these tires seem to improve slow speed handling, almost makes the bike feel "less top-heavy". Did I mention that I really like these tires"??
  22. How's this for excellent speed control? I don't know about you, but this would slow me down ! People slow down and try to "straddle" the hole .... This is actually a speed control device that is in use. It is much cheaper than speed cameras. Pretty clever - especially when moved around each day. Isn't art wonderful ?
  23. Well, Took the GW out for a couple hundred mile jaunt and was just enjoying the day, no cares, no worries all two lanes. Pulled away from a Stop sign accellerated and got to about 3rd gear and met a Trooper. I had been crusing at 57 - 60 all day long and as I met him I had let off to shift on up and hit the cruise well he turned around stopped me for going 63 in a 55????!! I ride with many troopers and most all have said if I ride 9 and under the speed limit no problems. Well he siad they were given a directive to slow down Motorcycles, to which I said what about all the cars tring to kill us, he laughed and said them too. A whole speeding spring campaign. Nice guy just gave me a warning. Any way if you ride IL roads better take it easy,
  24. Saturday I was on the RSV and followed my nephew to drop his tractor to be worked on. I offered him a ride home on the back of the bike. I'm right at 300lbs and he can't be much lighter plus about 50lbs of "stuff" in the bags and trunk. I'm sure some of you do this every day but other than being a little slow on the get up and go it actually felt ok. Got me to thinking... how many run with that kind of weight often?
  25. It was about 4:30 this morning when I went to get on my bike to come to work. It was about 35 degrees, when I started it up I noticed the tach was not working. This is a first, as I rode in the tach started responding very slowly. By the time I made the 20 mile ride the tach was acting better but still slow to react. I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen, wondering if the cold had something to do with it. Any thoughts?
