1. Try this again! I just came across this site advertised on Craigs List. Its not RSV related, but I know a lot of you have different bikes also. www.gravesj44.webs.com If your bike isn't listed, they say bring it by and they will design you an instrument face for free. This place is just down the road from me, though I've never been there or seen their work.
2. Well.......... I did my deed .......for 2011..... and ....added a few Threads ....and ......got the site RILED UP!!! The site was Boring Not like the old Days So, now Im going back into my Man Cave and Hibernate ( Oh By the Way I have no problem with the word Sex) as long it gets Freebird and His Moderators Riled Up
3. E Fishin C and all the other anglers on the site, did you see this one? http://www.wlbt.com/Global/story.asp?S=14061487 Yama Mama
4. OK folks, here's the thing. Motorcycle Gear, previously New Enough, has changed the program that they have used for a long time. The old program allowed you to designate your "favorite club" and then they put a dollar in the clubs account that I could then use as prizes and etc. in contests. They have now discontinued that program. They are now using a "affiliates code" like many other online advertisers do. They will now pay a small fee if a buyer enters their site from clicking on a banner. So, I am asking you to please use the banner that rotates at the upper right of the forum and the home page if you go to Motorcycle Gear to place an order. If you go to their site via your own bookmarks and etc., VentureRider will get no credit for your purchases. The same is true of Jake Wilson and Motorcycle Superstore. If you don't go to their sites by clicking on the banner at the top of our site, we get no credit for your purchases there. I don't fill our site with a lot of banners because I don't want this site to be about bombarding you with advertisements but if you use the few that I have at the top, it does help to support the club. Also, we have $159.00 in our old account with them and we have to give it away now or will lose it. So, we need to have a contest and the winner will receive a $159.00 gift certificate from Motorcycle Gear. I will give it some thought and come up with something later today. I will make a new post when I decide what kind of contest it will be this time. It will be something simple though and probably run for a week.
5. Don, Moderators, and Members I want to express my extreme appreciation of this site...and it is due to the above folks. I no longer own a Venture (which I still think is a GREAT bike), but I REFUSE to leave this site...it is the ONE motorcycle site I visit several times a day. As I bought a wing a few months ago, I started looking for sites that have info regarding this bike. There are several out there, and, for the most part, are good to visit. However, these sites allow about any jerk to post...whatever they want to post. Some of these people are really out there, and I find that it really detracts from being able to enjoy the site as much as I do Venturerider.org. I know I don't have to read what they post, and normally I don't. But every once in a while (depending on the topic) I read what they post, hoping it will add something of interest...NOPE, they just want to stir the pot! Stirring the pot can be a fun thing...it is on this site...good natured ribbing of fellow members. But on the sites of which I speak, the comments are caustic...extremely so. I'm not thin skinned...28 yrs in the military ensured that...but, I cringe at some of the things a few of those members post. I know on VR.org these folks would be taken to the wood shed by Don, or the moderators, or the other members...in an effort to get them back in line. Again, thank you to all the aforementioned, for keeping this a site that is ENJOYABLE to visit (as I said, several times a day). You are a great group of people and I thank you for not showing me the door even though I no longer own the bike that brought me to this brotherhood. I will close now, before the tears start to flow (just kidding...I am not THAT moved by it all). Keep on doing what you do...it works!!!!
6. Seems like the site has been pretty sluggish for a few weeks now. I just had some optimization done on the server. Hopefully it will help.
7. Well today I finally did it. I have been thinking about getting a new bike. I ended up getting a Harley Road Glide. I know, I know, but I really like the fixed fairing and alot of other things on it. So in the long run it is the bike for me. I really like this site, and enjoy chatting with alot of you. I plan on coming back and keeping up with whats going on as well. Needless to say I probly will end up parting ways with my tour deluxe. Its been a good bike, and will make somebody a nice ride. Its really fun reading up on some of the ins and outs of these bikes, and the knowledge and ideas found on this site are incredible. So I plan on chiming on from time to time. As for new pics of the bike, gonna have to wait. It wont be here till the end of march. No biggy for me, Im not riding in a -50 windchill anyway.
8. just want to put my 2 cents in about folks who defect to other brands that think about abandoning this site. this site is'nt about the brand you ride. it's about the greatest collection of good people on any site there is. i got away from my venture several years ago, and now my favorite bikes are a kaw. 1600 nomad, and a v-star 1300. got alot of friends on this site that i would never abandon. and a very few i could care less about. basically the brand ain't what it's all about. it's the people that make it all worth while. don't ever leave this site cuz you don't ride a yamaha, you owe it to the friends you have to stay on board and enjoy the hours of fun you have with them. it's all about the comeraderie. i belong to the nomad site for my technical info, and have freinds there but i will never turn my back on the great venture riders i have had the honor to associate with over the years. snarley bill:2133:
9. I was asked a while back to install a interface called ForumRunner for the site. It is a program that is supposed to make the site better for those using IPads and Iphones I think. Just a note that I have at least temporarily disabled that program due to excess load on the server. I don't know for sure if it is the culprit but am temporarily disabling features that I have added over the past two or three months in an effort to figure out what is slowing things down.
10. Since there seems to be a lull in post I would like to tap the vast knowledge of this group. My brother and I are trying to set up a Car and Bike show in memory of our Dad May 14 in Virginia. I would like to know if anyone on here has every set one up and has any pointers? The site we are looking at having it has room for a couple hundred vehicles. We want to have the proceeds go to the local votech schools to support auto and bike programs.
11. About a month ago we traded the Venture in on a Goldwing. At the time, I expressed that we wanted to still belong to the VR org…a request that was met without any criticism, and I thank you for that. I didn’t think it would be a problem…based on other postings I have seen and the fact that there were all kinds of bikes on our Big Bend trip…without any ill-feelings. Just want you all to know that, I have looked at other sites…in the interest of learning more about the new bike…and to get a feel for what kind of people are out there. I have got to be honest with you…there are no sites or people like there are on this site. Belinda and I have made friendships thru VR.org that I believe will be lasting…regardless of what kind of bike we ride. Gotta tell you, we really appreciate that. Venturerider.org is an extension of Don Nelson…and, whether we are aware of it, or not…the site reflects the integrity, attitude, and demeanor of its founder…another thing for us to be thankful for. Having said that, Belinda and I would like to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Friends like you are a blessing in and of itself. For our friends that may not observe Christmas, we wish you Happy Holidays…in whatever form it may take for you. So dry your eyes and quit trying to look so humble! Looking forward to our get-togethers in the coming year. God bless you all.
12. Some of the jokes being posted lately are a bit over the line for this forum. Please remember that this site is PG rated.
13. Hi everyone, hope all are well. A couple of months back I had asked for some advice on what do with my 89 Venture, it had fuse panel problems. headlight problems, etc. Thanks to all that responded. Shortly after that I had to go on the down low for awhile, had a medical condition come up and I should be relased from the doctor tomorrow. Anyway, I want to thank everyone that responded to my earlier post. I may end up having someone work on this bike for me, but I am going to do what I can. Pushing the comfort zone, as you may say. I have new tires coming for the Venture, planning on removing the wheels and getting the new tires put on. Should I use a m/c jack for this, or use the front wheel dive procedure found on this site? I also need a new front brake master cylinder, the sight glass developed a leak - actually a section of it chipped out and I lost the brake fluid. Got one coming from ebay with a good site glass. After these two fixes I am planning on replacing the fuse panel with Skydoc's kit. Anyway, sorry for rambling. My question, is there a good way to use the m/c jack, suck as either side to mount it from? Thanks in advance, any tips appreciated. Don
14. Thought the site might be interested in info contained on the following help from St. Jude to a military mother on her return (I think mother) finding her son seriously ill. Here's the site as I copied it today on the news: (Hope it works) http://www.tg.stjude.org/patients/max/?tngsourcecode=THWAOLDO11&plt=THWAOLDO1112&icid=main%7Chtmlws-main-n%7Cdl10%7Csec1_lnk3%7C185815 Jack Z:Venture:
15. I've added a Jake Wilson banner into the rotation at the top right of the page. I kept hearing this place pop up in the forum here and finally placed an order through them myself a while back. They seem to be a great company to deal with and their prices on tires and other accessories appear to be about as good as any. The site will make a small percentage if you use that link when going to their site to make your purchases. I know that several of you use them already and this makes it easy for folks to find them.
16. When I posted an the Vmax forum.net site about the group buy for the solid motor mounts SGN is getting together, one of the members there asked me if anyone on this site would be interested in a wiring harness he is making. Link to one of threads on Vmax site. http://www.vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=14155 The purpose of this harness is to allow the use of Coil Over Plug units in place of the standard ignition coils used on the 1st gens. The harness adapts from the venture wiring harness coil connectors to the COP units. It also has a resistor in it to match the expected coil resistince found on the Venture/Vmax bikes. The harness is $70, shipping $5 USA / $12 Canada , Mexico / $15 the rest of the world. Next in red is a cut from the post on that site. The conversion harness applies to all years of the first generation Vmax, The coils that you need to purchase would be Denso coils. Suzuki , GSXR's and Busa's have the coils that are the proper Ohm's resistance for these harnesses. I cannot say personally that all Denso coils have the same Ohm's resistance. I have not been able to check anything other than GSXR and Busa coils. Now My bike I have the Busa coils, I like them better because they are short. They are 5" in length and just clear the valve covers. Now some Denso coils on the GSXR's are 5 1/2" long. They just barely fit , clearing the frame when installing them on the rear cylinders. Generally you should not have to purchase coils on Ebay for anymore than about $45-$50. If you have an idea the length that you might want, Feel free to ask questions to the seller. Most will respond with the total length of the coil. If anyone is interested, contact me and I will coordinate purchase with him. This is done to help one of our Venture cousins and us out. Gary
17. Folks, I have been somewhat struggling with a decision lately in regard to our classified section. We had a person join as a trial member and then posted an ad in our classifieds for some patches. I may end up making the classifieds for supporting members only and even then, I don't want to have people joining at $12.00 per year only for the purpose of hawking their goods on our site. The fact is, if I allowed people to start using the site and our classifieds as a store at $12.00 per year, this would end up being nothing but a spam filled site and I just won't allow that to happen. I just deleted the ad for patches in our classifieds and will be watching closely that it doesn't continue to happen. I block memberships here almost every day from spammers in China, India and other places that I know want nothing more than to spam our forum. It is a non-ending battle that requires me to be on constant lookout. Very rarely one will get through and we will see some spam posts but they are deleted quickly and those responsible are permanently banned from the site. I was also made aware today of a site in Australia that has VentureRider patches listed for sale. I don't know who the actual person is behind the site but I have not authorized that our logo be used for any retail purpose outside of our own products listed here on the site in the VentureRider Merchandise forum area. I do vaguely remember a request from a member some time ago asking if he could use our logo and put the outline of Australia in the background. I had no problem with that for one's personal use but NOT to be sold. There have been a few times over the years when I have received requests from members to reproduce our logo on their trailer or other items and I've never had a problem with that but again, that is for your own personal use ONLY. NOT to be reproduced and sold retail. If you find our logo being sold on products outside of this site, please let me know and PLEASE do not purchase those items.
18. Found this funny video on another site. Enjoy! http://sorisomail.com/partilha/83108.html
19. I was wondering if anyone here has one of these trailers. I really like what I see of them and am considering one. A fellow on the STowners site has one and his review was very positive. I am looking for more opinions if possible. Here is the link to their site if anyone is interested. http://www.armoricdesign.com/fr/index.html
20. I met up with a buddy at the Buc-cees in Pearland, thence to ride to a Texans-Cowboys party. I was gassing up when I spied a white RSTD right behind me. I went over and introduced myself. Then I introduced myself again because he had music in his helmet and didn't hear me the first time. LOL His name was Ed. I told him that I had to say hi, since RSTDs are so rare. He didn't realize that I was also riding one until I pointed it out. RSTDs are just so rare that you can hardly believe you are seeing one! I asked if he ever had heard of VentureRiders, and he told me that he is addicted to the site. Ed even knew who I was! I suggested that he join, because then he'd be more attuned to the fellowship. We had a meet n eat yesterday, he should have come! There are so many intangible and tangible benefits of this site! His is a pretty white 2006, set up solo. Other than that, it is pretty stock. Really clean. He came over to look at Roxie, and declared her really tricked out. I don't think so, but she isn't stock. I pointed out my airhorn as one mod I did that I found important. He told me he'd been trying to figure out how to add the horn. Well, no need to struggle! Join the site and send up a flare! We're all happy to help. Honestly, Ed, you don't need to join the site. Send me a PM if you are able, and I'll come help you figure out your airhorn. And more. But you really ought to think about joining the rabble. We're like family: completely dysfunctional! Dave
21. Most o fthe locals don't know this but I got rid or a nice ride to move to motorcycles 2 yrs ago. I finally found my pics and have them sized so that I can show them. I must admit that this site is what made me get a RSV and the members who have helped me during the past 2 years have made a big difference in how I handle and maintain the bike. I couldn't have done all the upgrades and maintenance without the help of members on this site and those that help me locally to when I have issues like, PONCH, GUNBOAT, SQUIDLEY,OWEN, KGRERDOODLE, DAVE and may others from the Venturerider site. To all of you again I say "THANKS A MILLION" because without you I would not have the bike and I would not be going to the "Tail of the Dragon" from Texas next week. I need to submit newer pics of the bike but I am stuck at work doing maintenance and decided to go ahead and post tonight. Now here is the pics of my old and new ride. Now to finally get out of here after 17 hrs.
22. Hey guys. Those of you who know me will be aware of my photographic bent. I've often been asked if I have a web site. Now I can say, "Yes I have." Fairly basic for starters, but I'll expand on it. Just wanted to 'get it out there' to see how it fares. Comments and critiques welcome. http://fotoshoppe.vpweb.com.au
23. Looking around tonight and I get a new pop up window with VenturePodcasting. What is this and where did it come from ? Below is the link to the site. None of the links at this site worked for me. http://www.venturepodcasting.com/1.html Brad

25. Tomorrow is Linda's birthday and our son that lives in Newark Ohio invited us down for lunch and an air show. All of us were running a tad late to get to the opening ceremony but as we were coming out of Bob Evans Linda looked up and couldn't even speak. There was a Stealth bomber flying at a serious low altitude heading to the airport for the flag raising fly-over. What an AWSOME site !! None of us had ever seen a Stealth except on television, still can't get over it. I gotta say tho, it must have been a defective one because they are supposed to be invisible and we all seen it. It made it's fly over ( we were only 3 miles from the airport) and we could see it turn almost tip toward ground, another awesome site. Because of the total traffic jam, it took a while to get into the airport but the wait was well worth it. There was more plane activity than I can explain and the best part was were were only 100 feet from the landing strip. GREAT DAY !! This show was in http://www.coshoctoncounty.net/agency/airport/
