  1. Haven't been able to get on the Venturers site for several days. Says there are not forums period. Still logged in. I know it is a competing site, but many if not most people there are also on here. Just wondered if it was me or the site? Thanks
  2. I have not been able to access this site for 30+ minutes. What happened? I was almost in rehab.
  3. Is there a way to have attachments in a PM just like we Have in the forums? There have been a number of times that I wanted to sends pics back and forth in a PM but had to take the conversation to another site to have pics. At least this time I do not think the answer will be to use Google search......
  4. 08-16-2006 - this is my join date, 4 years 2 months and some days, It is still the best site on the web. I have been a member longer than that but the "CRASH" deleated that history. I was just wondering how long most folks have been here? And when Don originally started the site? Anybody remember "Dallas" what ever happened to him? ..........I guess i'm just remenissing.
  5. Ok, I'm just checking. I'm doing the R1 brake upgrade using the forks off an '87. I'm going to need the front axle for the '87. Thought I ask around the site before I start digging in the online listings. Anybody got one laying around that needs a home? Mike
  6. ... and those from the East as well.... Kruis'n The Kootenays regional rally is ON!! June 29 - July 2, 2012 in Nelson, BC We want to see you all there ... "the more the merrier" ... "there's power in numbers" .... and whatever other cliche` applies I will have a website up this weekend and will post the web addy URL in here... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65031 The site will include a form for registering, etc. Please add your name to the following thread if you think you can make it. This will assist us in planning coz we sure don't want to run out of food ... or have too much for that matter! (too much food???? nevah!) http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67021 Any questions, feel free to contact me or Brian
  7. I am looking for a stock horn for my 2008 RSV. I have adjusted the one on the front, behind the left fairing. It is somewhat louder now. The one near my right side is sick / dead!! I would like to purchase one from someone on this site who no longer needs theirs, or has repalced them with an air horn. Thanks for any help you can offer. Charlie Flory 804-731-4474
  8. I have been a member here a short time but have to give kudos where they are due. I did the PCW clutch kit to my 1999 and you all made it easy! Thanks for a great site and I would have never tore into the cluch without you all. Thanks Carl
  9. I am now a bona-fide member of VentureRider.org. I gotta say, I have found here more useful information about something I am interested in than maybe any other one place. Thank you, Freebird and all the rest of you for making this site what it is. Bert
  10. I used to be able to log in to my daily viewed sites and my sign in info was retained in my computer and I went directly to the site, grabbed a cup of coffee, and sat back to enjoy. Now, each time I visit this site (and the others) I have to reinput my user name and password...gets a bit tedious (yes, I know, I AM lazy!)... is there a way around this?
  11. I have noticed that we have LOTS of visitors...Welcome!! For those of you visiting, this site is an awesome place to get information about your bike and share others experience with their bikes. The information about anything and everything from accessories, where to get em, maintenance and how to do it, paint, pictures and just general bike talk can be found here. I visited this site many times to get help with maintenance stuff and a big Thank You to the guys like Condor, Freebird and Goose to name a few who have taken the time to explain stuff to newbies or guys that just want to avoid taking their bikes to a dealer or shop do get some very expensive repairs that they could easily do themselves. To take full advantage of the site only costs you $12 bucks for a whole year, I made that up on the first part I bought and membership allows you to see the pictures the guys posts that have worked on the same parts. I changed the needle valves on my 96 RSTC and the parts from a dealer and many online stores were about $36 apiece. Using this site as a resource I purchased them online from OBB in a 5 pack for the same as it costs for one! My reason for posting this is not only to thank the guys that spend their time posting to help others but to keep a great site going strong! Become a member! Remember there is strength in numbers and in brotherhood! Great Riding!
  12. I am no longer able to send pm's, I get kicked off the site every time I try. Anyone else, or is it just me? Wonder how that happened.
  13. Rick & Marilyn and kids stayed with us for a few days for shopping and fun. We had a great visit and dinner, We talked of the great people we have met on this site and the good rides we have had with the people we have met here. How much the people we have met on this site mean to us and the Pork in the Pines. It was sad for them to have to go back to Canada so quickly. They could have stayed for another week. We mis hearing A-BOOT and EH (lol). Now it is our turn to go to Canada, hope your trip back is a safe one………….Ron
  14. Been looking forward to the 3rd annual Anti-Snow day, but looks like it is not scheduled. Just looked and Thom has not been on the site since September. Anyone seen him? Hope he is OK!!!
  15. Thank You all for what you do here for the site, I for one do really appreciate what you do. Thank you for deleting the sometimes, WHOOPS I wish I had not posted that.....more than one for me. THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER YEAR.... :clap2::thumbsup2:
  16. Awhile back I read a post on a recall for HD baggers. It was a brake light switch. As it turns out mine is one that needs the recall. Along with all the talk on that subject I remembered that somebody mentioned that the goldwings had a similar recall. I called my buddy today and told him about the wing recall. He called me about 15 minutes later after checking on his bike. Turns out his wing needs to be checked over as well. So a BIG thanks to this site for helping others out..........
  17. Do we have any Architects on this site. Wanted to ask a few questions, so please pm me. Thanks Brad
  18. Internet Explorer had been working just fine with this site, but a couple of days ago it decided that it didn't want to log in here anymore. Firefox still works great, and from my work computer (also IE) it logs in fine. When I try to log in with IE on this computer I get the message Invalid Redirect URL ( http://venturerider.org./modules/Jig/index.php?&) Any ideas?? Frank D.
  19. Hello Everyone: My work took me to Ogallala NE, again recently. I was finally able to meet VR member dludke. Our schedules never allowed us to meet during the riding season this year. I sure appreciate this site!! I have made so many nice friends such as Doug on this site. Take care everyone.
  20. I just changed the front tire on my 2000 RSV. It was not completely worn out, but it had a slight cupping if you looked closely. When in a steady state low speed turn, I got a little shake/wobble at the handlebars. I researched tire options on this site and decided to go with the MT90B16 "not recommended by Yamaha" option. I purchased the Dunlop Elite 3 in that size. Wow, freakin' wow. Shake is gone (cured by new tire, not necessarily the new size). But the improvement in feel is unfreakin' believable. I currently have a relatively new Dunlop 404 (less than 2K) in the stock size on the rear of the bike. I will put the matching Elite 3 on when it wears out. I know this is nothing new to the guys that have been on this site for a long time. But, if anyone is sitting on the fence about changing to a "not recommended" tire...I'm here to tell you.....JUMP!
  21. Well, my membership has expired and sadly it is time to say goodbye. About a month ago I traded my Venture in on a 2012 Cross Country Tour. But first a few honest and sincere comments before I leave. I'll talk about this site and the valuable information on it first... Having 3 sites of my own, I know the hard work it takes to run a website like this and Don has done a FANTASTIC job of knowing when to step in and when to let things alone. The site is nicely done...and frankly I was very hesitant about "joining" a site that charged to be a member. Little did I know then that the information and camaraderie on this site was WELL WORTH the $12 per year that was asked (and yes, it is moderately expensive to run a website). I was a member of the VTX site before this site and they were pretty good...but I had no idea how "ordinary" the site was until I became a member here. Don and YOU MEMBERS are extremely helpful, understanding and caring about the other members of this site. I hope I was able to considered a part of that the short time (2 years) I was here. No smart alecks (or at least not the bad kind:rotf:), there were no rude people and there were no people that talked down to any other members (at least what I was able to see). I saw this all the time on a HD forum I was a member of (thought about a Harley for awhile)...and to be honest there are a couple of Victory forums with attitudes also, and this makes one's experience on those forums less than ideal. But what I miss most about the new forums I am on...is the lack of KNOWLEDGE that I have found here, and the lack of fellowship also found here. THANK YOU for those two wonderful things found at Ventureriders!! OK...now to the bike. I want to be brutally honest here...the good, the bad and the ugly. I don't have an ax to grind, nor do I have any intention of bashing the Venture. I just want to share my experience. When I bought my 2009 Venture, I was very disappointed in the bike, I thought I had made a mistake in my purchase and felt that way for several months. As the months went by, I began to SLOWLY enjoy the bike more and more. Once I went on my first long ride, I was starting to REALLY like my bike...in fact, I began to love the long trips on the Venture. My last long trip was an 1100 mile 17 hour ride from Virginia to Arkansas and I LOVED MY RIDE AND TRIP!! I will always remember that ride as one of my favorite so far. But although I had really became fond of my Venture, I could not get past the handling and top heaviness of the bike, and I was also unhappy about the options of the bike. Like many here I feel that Yamaha has become frozen in time in regards to this WELL BUILT BIKE...the engine on this bike is AWESOME!! In October I went to Bikes, Blues and BBQ in Fayetteville and had actually decided to sink another $1500 into my Venture to lower the bike (a second time) by upgrading the front forks and also purchasing the Corbin seat. I went to BBB and even decided NOT to demo any bikes, even though that was a tradition for the group I was in...I finally gave in to ragging the other guys were giving me and just to please them I test rode the Victory Cross Country Tour. I knew then it was the bike for me. The Venture is a proven success! The engine is the best thing going for this bike. On the interstate, this bike rocks. But in my opinion the positives stop there for me anyway. The Victory CCT handled extremely well, it had all the amenities that you could want on a nice touring bike and finally, the bike isn't dated. So my mind was changed at BBB within 3 minutes of taking the Victory out for a ride. Yes, I will miss the durability of the Venture engine. And yes, I will DEFINITELY miss the super nice members here on this site. I can assure you that every time I visit the Victory forum... I see lots of bickering and little information. Luckily, I prefer to ride than to bicker on a motorcycle website. So again, I know the Venture is a great bike for a lot of people (especially you taller guys)...but it does seem the better fit for me is the Victory. One last thing...I did keep my CD changer and an unfinished SHORTENED kickstand that I have on eBay right now... in case anyone is looking for either one of these items. http://www.ebay.com/itm/190601124266?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/190601124038?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649 Again...Don Thanks for a wonderful 2 years. I will truly miss this place. Wally Jarratt ArkieBiker
  22. I was at a yamaha dealer yesterday and they have one of the new Raider SCLs. WOW, that is one good looking bike. If I could afford another bike in addition to my venture or if I only rode one up I would buy that bike in a heart beat. I went of yamaha's web site this morning and they have a video of the bike but it looks so much better in person. Yamaha is only making 500 of these. Wish I had one.
  23. A friend of mine who retired from the salt mine was chatting with a friend of his about bikes. He knew that they were searching for a newer bike. Bruce gave Barry and Donna my telephone #, and contact was made. Well, they came over Wednesday night, had a look at our 04 midnite, and fell in love. Took it for a spin, had a friend check it out and came back with big grins on both their faces. They called after dinner tonight, and said that they were waiting word from the bank and wanted the bike. They currently have a 1st gen...it's an 85, and it has over 100,000 on the odometer. So, they wanted another, newer Venture. We had a nice visit....it was great trading "Venture" stories. I guess to make a long story short, looks like Beth and I are soon to be bikeless. I bought my first bike when I was 12 years old, a 50cc Bombardier, and except for a hiatus while raising my boys, riding has been a passion for me. But, in all honesty, I have lost my lust for this sport.....truthfully, the accidents this year have really hit home, and probably have had some impact on my decision. Once I get on the bike, it's just like home, the problem was getting my leg swung over the seat in the first place. We have decided to try to "look in to our future" so to speak. I'm tired of the cold and winter, and we have a desire to retire on the water somewhere warm.....so we have purchased a Bayfield 29C sailboat. We will try this out, and if Beth can handle the "motion of the ocean", we will sell the 29 footer and move up to a larger sailboat closer to retirement, outfit it the way we want to, and then, as the saying goes......sail off into the sunset. We have made a lot of great friends here on this site, and we will miss each and every one of you. We do plan on continuing to attend local meets and eats...er greets when my work schedule allows us to do so. I want to say THANK YOU to all who have helped me through their posts working on my bikes, who have actually worked on my bike, who have directed me to sites to purchase new safety chrome and other accessories for our ride. It would have been so much harder to dress the bike up, have the confidence in it's mechanical abilities to just get up and go for weeks at a time. Before finding you all and this site, I couldn't do most of the repairs/updates that I've done over time on both my 96 royal star and the Venture. Changing out a clutch slave cylinder, doing the brakes, adding lighting....the list goes on. I'm still going to pop in on the site now and then to check up on everyone...wouldn't miss the enjoyment of reading all the posts and updates here on the site, seeing who is getting into "trouble" with the mods..., what's new in everyone's lives. Anyways, good luck to you all....Gary and Mary, you're just a half hour away, we'll drop in now and then, Monty, good luck with the boys overseas, Freebird, keep fighting the big "C", you are going to completely beat the beast, Ponch, keep up the good fight, we're all in your corner pushing you on, Yammer Dan...buddy, you keep the site interesting!!!! IBents, we'll see you at the wine party and get you out for a sail next summer I hope. Carbon One, keep those ideas rolling and producing accessories for these great rides. Squidley, Lonna, Kregerdoodle, Gunboat and the rest of the Houston gang, we had a blast down there last year, we'll not soon forget that ride! A ton of great memories, awesome times, great friends! gunk
  24. I've a 2008 RSV that I've owned since brand new. This weekend, I decided to clean the carbs per some great instructions on this site. The diaphrams on the right side of the carb banks looked fine. However, both of the left side diaphrams looked DEFORMED... While the left diaphrams dont have any holes in them, the center hole looks deformed (larger...maybe swollen), and doesnt fit the slide as well as the right-side diaphrams do. The left side air box-to-airfilter hose was completely disconnected as well (back to my theory on 16-year old "technicians")... I'm going to order two new diaphrams for the left side.... QUESTION: What would be some of the issues I would have if the diaphrams were bad? Lower MPG...less vacuum...no power in 5th gear... I defer the to the wealth of knowledge on this site! Thanks!
  25. I seen 2 Ventures parked in Tarpoon Springs outside Tampa Florida on Oct 15 early PM. just wondering if it was anyone from this site? Midnite venture parked on one side of street and a 08 gold and black venture on the other side. Thanks CHRIS
