When I turn the signal on (seems like mostly left signal) and start downshifting, I notice that the signal is off before making turn. If at a stop light then I just turn them back on, but when I stop (or slow down) and it happens before I turn, then I fumble and try to turn them back on. Gives me a bad feeling that someone's going to plow into me. Is this a time thing (seems like they stay on until after I turn no matter how long I'm at a light) or something about downshifting? Any ideas? Thanks!

08 Royal Star Venture - I purchased a cargo trailer (Cyclemate CM-1000) that has a "5 wire" system. Using the layout you see below everything works -- except the "4 way flashers" on the bike. When the trailer is plugged in they blink once and then go out. Unplug the trailer and they work fine. Dark green is the right turn signal. Dark brown is the left turn signal. Blue is the tail light. Yellow is the brake light. White is ground. Is there something I am missing? Thanks in advance Tom

I have an 84 Venture Royale. The left turn signal is stuck on (does not blink) I imagine it's a relay. I popped the headlight and can see a number of relays but no idea what they do. Any help gratefully appreciated

This has happened to most of us. It happened last night again. I sat in a left turn lane for two full cycles of the lights and I never got the green arrow. So after the second time of not getting the green arrow I waited until it was safe to proceed and went through on the red. Sure as heck some cop was watching and pulled me over. He gets out and says "Do you know why I stopped ya?". I said I do know, but I did wait for two cycles of the lights and since they never gave me the green I waited until it was safe to proceed through the intersection as required by MN state law. His response was that MN does not have a law that allows that, but since he also rides we knows why I went through the light and didn't write me a ticket. He did run my name and plates to make sure I was a nice guy. So when we got home my wonderful wife had to look up the law since I was sure that two years ago MN added a provision for this. Here is what she found. ---------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.dps.state.mn.us/mmsc/latest/MMSCHomeSecondary.asp?cid=5&mid=153 Sec. 42. Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 169.06, is amended by adding a subdivision to read: Subd. 9. [AFFIRMATIVE DEFENSE RELATING TO UNCHANGING TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNAL.] (a) A person operating a motorcycle who violates subdivision 4 by entering or crossing an intersection controlled by a traffic-control signal against a red light has an affirmative defense to that charge if the person establishes all of the following conditions: (1) the motorcycle has been brought to a complete stop; (2) the traffic-control signal continues to show a red light for an unreasonable time; (3) the traffic-control signal is apparently malfunctioning or, if programmed or engineered to change to a green light only after detecting the approach of a motor vehicle, the signal has apparently failed to detect the arrival of the motorcycle; and (4) no motor vehicle or person is approaching on the street or highway to be crossed or entered or is so far away from the intersection that it does not constitute an immediate hazard. (b) The affirmative defense in this subdivision applies only to a violation for entering or crossing an intersection controlled by a traffic-control signal against a red light and does not provide a defense to any other civil or criminal action. ----------------------------------------------- So, they didn't make it truly legal, but they did write into law that it is excusable under the proper conditions. What is the law on this in your state?

I HAVE AN 07 RSTD I HAVE 3 OF THE 4 WIRES CONNECTED BUT I'M NOT SURE WHERE TO CONNECT THE GREEN WIRE THAT GETS THE SIGNAL FOR RPM's. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE THIS SETUP. HELP -
We had another gorgeous warm day so I took the day off and went for a ride. Left @ 9:30 and didn't get home until 4:40. An awesome ride it was... uneventful ... EXCEPT on the last little stretch coming home... I'm on a 4-lane divided hwy ... there's a stop light at an intersection and I'm first out in the right lane. Ahead there's an "on ramp" coming from the intersection and lots of traffic merging so, the light changes, I get the jump and move over into the left lane (coz the traffic is merging). Guy to the right and a bit ahead of me merges into the right lane, immediately puts his signal on and moves into the left lane. I'm sure he didn't see me but I knew what he was doing so I let him in... right behind him is a woman and she does the same thing ... no signal... and she's even with me. I guess she figured that if the guy in front of her could do it, so could she. She never looked...didn't signal (at least that I could tell)...just pulled right over from the on-ramp across the right lane and into the left lane ... where I am. Forces me over to the shoulder (it's paved) and there's a large concrete barrier separating the opposing lanes. I'm blasting my horn at her... she can't hear me so all I could do was brake and let her in. Of course I moved over to the right lane and got up beside her and flipped her the bird along with numerous words of admiration for her driving skills. My next purchase of "safety chrome" will definately be a REALLY LOUD set of HORNS! (enjoy the pics)

Hi everyone. I have read some posts on this have tried many things? My front right signal will just flash slightly and rear will flash quickly. When I used my 4 way flashers back will blink correctly front will blink slightly. I have replaced both front and rear with what is suggested by the Yamaha. I also have cleaned out any corrosion and applied dialectric grease. Any help will be appreciated. Screaming Red

Anybody out there got a good right front signal light for a 1st gen? Lowell sent me one, but I need the other right one. I need to either send the left one back to Lowell or send him a little money. Anybody want to trade a right one for a left one? RandyA -
What year did Yamaha start using clear lens on their signal lamps? My 2001 RSV has the amber color & I want to change them out to clear. Thanks for any info you can give. Bill

Ok so here is my problem. I just got my GXM-30 on Saturday. I promptly signed up for XM radio and XM weather. XM Radio was on before I got back to the bike from my PC and I am still waiting on the XM weather. I called the number the XM operator gave me this morning (because they don't work on the weekends) and they gave me yet another number to call. Called them and they said they would send an activation signal down and to leave the radio on for 20 minutes. Well I left it on for 30 minutes and still no weather. I seem to remember seeing somewhere that it could take up to 12 hours before the activation signal makes its way to the radio. Anybody have that happen to them? If I turn the key off and go to battery power the XM radio of course will not work but when I turn the key on if I am on the page menu/xm where you see the XM button in the upper left I will briefly see an XM weather button pop up. Hitting it makes no difference and it goes away after 1 or 2 seconds even if it's not hit. I don't know if that is just natural function of the Zumo/GXM even without the XM weather subscription or if there is something evil lurking in my system. I also go to the menu/tools/subscriptions/XM radio page and it shows my Radio ID and the fact that I am subscribed to XM radio with 217 channels, but the data subscription says none. Thanks in advance. BTW as a side note, I rode in today with the XM radio and the Sirius radio on, both on the same channel and the ENTIRE ride I had XM signal strength of 3 bars and Sirius has at best 2 bars and for most of the ride 1 or no signal. It was actually nice and comforting to get the XM programing back. Now that they have Sirius channels I see no reason to have Sirius at all since their equipment seems to be inferior.

fit on 99 venture? or do i need to buy the whole turn signal? :confused24:also i know i've seen a stock yamaha with a clear tail light lens, but i can't put my finger on which one or if it is the shape as the ventures. does anyone know about these or better yet have one already done with pics? looking to change mine up a little while i'm waiting for the white stuff to melt!!!!! thanks for any help. big mike -
Question is do I need to replace the left turn signal or the signal switch or the relay?? My left front turn signal went out, so I replaced it and it still will not work?? Tried another bulb and still not working. Cleaned out the holder and still not working. The light still works but not the turn portion of the bulb?? I thought if you had power to the bulb both would work. Give me some of your wisdom please. THANK YOU in advance.......................Ron

:confused07:I have a Piggy Backer trailer. I used the Modulite modual wiring kit in order to use the 4 pin wiring kits. My problem (on the trailer) is this, my brake lights and running lights work like they are supposed to. The turn signals work right also, BUT when I have the turn signal on and hit the brakes, the turn signal stops flashing. The turn signals, front and back, work properly on the bike. What did I do wrong with the wiring?

Hey y'all... BugFish69 was nice enough to give me a turn signal bar for my Venture (didn't even charge me shipping!!!) My turn signals do not fit on this bar. I bought my bike used and it had the driving lights. I've taken those off. Are there adapters that go between the bar and the signals? These are Yamaha turn signals and they appear to be the same as every other Yamaha turn signal built in the last dozen years or so. Any help will be appreciated. Forrest

My front left turn signal is out but it does blink when the turn signal is on. I replaced it with a new bulb – no luck, it does the same thing, it only blinks.

Today. my signal lights quit working. I am real good about using my signal lights, so this was a big aggravation. When I got home, I pulled out my repair book and read up on the lights. I seemed to have power where I was supposed to so it looked like my relay was bad. When I pulled it out, I noticed it had a cover on it that could easily be disassembled. I took it apart and checked continuity and found a contact was not giving a good reading. I took a small piece of sand paper and doubled it over and rubbed it between the contacts. I plugged it back up and it is working fine. I have attached some pictures and you can see the contacts. RandyA

I found a part number for that weird rear turn signal bulb on the 2nd gen Venture, and, I suppose, the RSTD also. 7507 Also referred to as the BAU15s on this website: http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm You can see these bulbs down near the bottom of the page. They also have LED replacements, if you want to actually DO that. I got the impression during my searches that this bulb is used in some European cars, like the BMW and the Porsche. How it ended up in our bikes is anybodys guess, maybe the Japanese designers got a helluva deal on the bulbs and sockets. Someone somewhere has asked if there were any bulb numbers for this bike, and this was the only one I didnt have till now. Hope this is of some use.

Anybody else getting wet inside their front turn signal/running lamp housings? If so, any good fix? Yesterday a friend pointed out that I had a burnt out bulb. Opened it up to change it and it is all corroded. Screws were rusted, inner receptacle was rusted. Never noticed it upon inspection in the past, but it was rusted enough to have been happening for a while. The rubber gasket appeared in tact. Think this is covered under the 5 year? A buddy of mine has a Honda Cruiser and wanted some different front signal lights. He bought some that are made for a Harley. They are not LED. Now his signal lights flash very fast. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

I have a 2006 RSTD and want some LED rear turn signals replacements and a replacement headlight (h4 or better) for better lighting.I am on Custom dynamics website but wanted to make sure I buy the correct lights.In addition does anyone know if I will need the load equalizer for the turn signal? I would appreciate your help.

Anyone with a 2nd gen who has installed the driving lights still have the turn signal they took off? I'm going to remove the driving lights and I need a turn signal bar to put in it's place. Thanks.

I just finished doing a tech inspection on an alleged brake failure. The driver reported that the vehicle in front of him stopped when the traffic signal turned to amber. When he tried to stop, his brakes failed and he rear ended the truck in front of him. My question has nothing to do with brake failure. Rather, with the traffic laws in your state/province. As a general rule, amber lights are intended to give the traffic already in the intersection time to clear the intersection before the cross traffic signal turns green. So, Are you allowed to proceed INTO an intersection on an amber light? If yes, and you stop on the amber, will you be ticketed for impeding the flow of traffic? Also, if you can proceed into the intersection on an amber, what is the purpose of the amber light? Just idle musings here...

I have a small problem with my trailer wireing. my lights all work -the turn and brake lights all work, but when I have the turn signal on, the brake lite over rides the turn signal on the trailer.I am just wondering what's up with that???? :confused24:
