  1. Got 83VR non running, lot of work later runs great but tach reads low, and slow to respond to throttle changes. Dash was FULL of ants, disassembled, and flushed ants out with water, then dried with aircompressor. Any way to verify tach signal at rear of dash correct? Volts?, Ohms? Think this signal is pulsing ground/vs 12v behind coil#2 @2xRPM?, May put o-scope on just to see what it reads. Haven't used my scope in long time-hope it still works. Suspect tach gears/springs may have light corrosion needs lube (pull dash again:(), but would like to verify everything else first.
  2. Doing my annual upgrade project on the 87 XVZ1300 and need a few parts to replace damaged bits and pieces. Please let me know if you have any of these items and are willing to sell. Front turn signal lens plastic water pump elbow temperature sensor for radiator fan Passenger leather pouch
  3. I have spent the morning looking through threads on LED turn signal options for my 2000 RSV. I already have the plug and play LED tail/brake light from Custom Dynamics, so am looking to upgrade the turn signals from there as well. I was trying to determine the standard bulb in the back and front turn signals now and couldn't get the bulb out. It's cold here and the rubber housing is like concrete. However, the signal casing indicates "USA #1156 #1157" on the front and back. Looking on the Custom Dynamics site, these appear to be two different bulbs requiring a different LED equivalent. I think that I would like amber on the front as regular turn signals and red on the back that would also double as running lights. Custom also has "New Moon Shinez" white driving lights/turn signals. Are these legal as turn signals if they are white (it says you need the smoked or clear lense cover)? Anyone have these? Earlier discussions on blink rate have talked about using load equalizers front and back but as I understand it they do accumulate heat and do not reduce the current load. Would a "Metric Signal Stabilizer" be a better solution? Suggestions as to what I should order would be appreciated. Thanks.
  4. Well, I finally got my MP3 input hardwired in to the wiring harness. I installed a 3pdt switch to seperate the FM signal from the MP3 signal. They work great. However, I've noticed the potential of my new speakers - which works GREAT with the MP3 and is marginal with the FM radio. The FM works fine...just quiet. It preforms just as well as it did before the MP3 input mod. I just wish I could get a louder sound with the FM radio so that I could hear it better when engine is running. I haven't gotten my comm. headset yet...its in the mail. Does it all work better when the sound is piped through the headset?
  5. Does anyone have another source for purchasing a Signal Light relay for the 06 RSV? My stealership wants $126 for it and since it's on back order I now have to wait 2 to 6 weeks if I'm lucky for one to be manufactured and shipped in from Japan.. (that's what it feels like).. Any idea where a person can get another one sooner and cheaper? I can get my deposit back if I intercept them before it's shipped out.. Thanks in advance..
  6. My other computer when I turn it on will beep 3 or 4 times and sounds like the fan is running at high speed. The monitor says its not receiving any signal and the fan is really loud. Any ideas what happened or what I need to look for?
  7. awhile back somebody posted a pic of red pointed rear turn signal lenses that fit the standard turn signal. Similar to the old caddy/chevy cars from the fifties. I would be interested in adding them to my bike, but not if I have to change the whole blinker. I noticed that the Strats have a pointed clear lens, and wonder if they would fit the rstd/venture. Any help would be appreciated
  8. While I was working on my light bar adapter and wiring tonight, I noticed that my left signal light is acting wonky.. You know how the signal lights will blink fast when you have a dead bulb? Well, what happens with mine is that the signal light will work..... and then start going fast.. I tried the 4 way flashers and no worries there at all... but when ever I select the left signal light and leave it alone, not touching the bike at all.. it will eventually start flashing fast... I changed the bulb, pulled and tugged and pushed against all the wiring in that area and nothing shows up.. it will work fine.. then later when I engage the left signal light it most likely will do the fast flash.. Front and rear bulbs are working properly.. Is there something else I should look at? Flasher relay perhaps? Fun fun fun!!
  9. Ok what is the trick here? The passing lamp and turn signal on the right side has worked loose and I can't seem to figure out how to tighten it. It seems like I need to screw the passing lamp into the turn signal shaft, but it hits the fairing. Do I have to remove the whole assembly? And if that's the case, then how did it work itself loose? Very strange unless I'm missing something really obvious.
  10. My Brother decided; for some unknown reason, that he should breed his F-450 Welding Shop on wheels with my poor little motorcycle!!! It was not a fair match; but the Venture did well. With all the hollerin and screaming going on, I was able to get him to stop before going too far and COMPLETELY ruining my day. A little further and i'd have seen what a 10,000 Lb. truck could do to a Venture. Anyway, as good fortune would have it, all i kneed is a left front turn signal. The lense on mine was completely demolished. Anyone have one for sale???
  11. I may need to replace a sometimes flakey turn signal cancel unit- not the relay itself. Mine is a 1987 modelbut others may work. Thanks!
  12. I just had complete turn signal failure after pulling both fairings off my bike. Trying to make sense of the poor quality black and white schematics in the manual, with the numberized components made me crazy flipping back and forth between pages. So I brought it into photoshop and colored the wires. It helped. I found the trouble was a brown wire on the harness that goes to the hazard switch had been pulled out of its plastic connector and did not not make contact when i plugged the quick disconnect back together. Thus it was if I left the switch between "hazard" and "off" positions. The terminal had some beginning oxidation so I applied dielectric grease to help. The signals work now, but the self canceling works 90% of the time, as sometimes i have to hold the left right selector to keep the signal going. I think the self-canceling unit has issues. So do most 20 year olds i know! Admin- move to another category if you wish!
  13. I'm totally frustrated with the highlight bar on this bike.. I'm not sure what the issue is but I can never get it fully tight on, and half the time it is as if you missed the treads altogether, but it will hold the bar up for a while but loosen right off.. if the bolts don't go in at JUST the right angle, you can turn and turn all you want, it won't tighten up more.. And once you do get it right, there's really no simple method to get a tool in there to tighten it up enough not to cause it to flop in the wind or come loose again.. So my first winter project is to rip the dang thing off and go for an alternate route. I want to have 'something' up front for better illumination and better 'notice me' detection from cagers.. I don't have the original signal light bar since I'm not the original owner of the bike but I still have my V-Star signal light bar and though I haven't tried it yet, I think it could be used since both bikes do have similar parts.. can anyone confirm this? If such is the case, then I would need to find an alternative highway light setup, big enough blob of light to be noticed, light enough not to be bouncing thus causing vibrations and so on.. What are my alternatives? What do you have that's not OEM etc? Thanks M8
  14. I want to change my rear turn signals so that they are turn, brake and running lights. I wanted to see what some of you all have used and what you all would recommend. Thanks, Mark
  15. I would like to get very bright turn signal and tail light bulbs any suggestions?
  16. I've had a problem with my 86 VR where the signal lights were turning off way too quickly (sometimes after two or three blinks). One of my buddies helped me look at it a few weeks ago and we found out it was losing ground and cutting off before it was supposed to. After pricing replacement switches for a few weeks I decided to try something today. I ran a wire from the ground side of the fuse box through the cable channel in the left handle bar and into the switch. There is a metal plate inside the switch just behind the control. I played around with my wire to find where the plate needed the ground and soldered the wire in place. I have to manually turn my signal light off now after I make a turn, but I feel a whole lot safer now that I don't have to worry about it turning off at the wrong time. Not a hard fix if I could do it. Thought someone else may be having the same problem.
  17. Sorry to keep coming to you guys..........I ain't electrically inclined. I am in the process of installing passing lights and mount on my 2004 Venture R/S. Does the turn signal wires connect in the fairing? I know I connect them to the lower portion of the mounting but I am trying to disconnect the turn signals and just removing the bolts, etc from the turn signal mount doesn't do the job. Where do you disconnect the wiring? I'll probably be back to ask another question but this will get me started. Thanks.
  18. We took a little ride last Saturday and as we were coming to a stop at an intersection the Honda VTX behind us failed to stop and at slow speed nailed our right saddlebag. The results were that the right side chrome "bumper" and turn signal were destroyed and the saddlebag lower was dented and distorted. Fortunately no one was injured and the damage was pretty light. I have a white and tan (I don't know the color names.) 1988 Royale and now need the chrome "bumper", turn signal, and lower saddlebag for the right side. This is basically the saddlebag assembly less the top as I have that in good condition still. If anyone has these parts and would like to sell them please let me know the details. I have seen the turn signals on ebay but have not seen the saddlebag in the tan (light brown) color from '88. I do not want to have to paint the parts, just put them on. Just lazy I guess... Thanks! Don
  19. I saw a Venture in Forestburg TX awhile back that had replaced both stock mirrors with a style that had LED turn signal indicators in them. Anyone know where to get these?
  20. A while back I replaced my signal light unit on the handlebar because mine was the kind where you push the lever down to cancel and I wanted to kind you push in. Since I have had this one, I have had a strange issue. When I turn the signal on, it works and cancels in the correct amout of time and it will manually cancel when I push the button in. The problem is I can go a distance after I use it and it cancels and sometimes when I come to a stop, it will start blinking again. I have to manually push it in to cancel. This is frustrating as there have been several times I have come to an intersection and it will start blinking, for in the last way it was used. This has had people cross in front of me because they think I am turning. Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any suggestions? RandyA
  21. Good Morning Everyone! My question is about the amount of time the turn signal flasher stays on before it self cancels. It seems to me mine stays on alot longer sometimes. Then other times it cancels quickly. Is there a set time for this proceedure to happen, or does it depend on the circumstance? Oh buy the way i'm talking about a 2008 RSV. Thanks and Ride Safe!
  22. I was going to a meeting with a sheriff in Avery county NC, and I was on 70 going to the mountains when some one lost some stuff off there truck. I thought I missed all three piece's but #3 took a bounce and hit my bike. I think it was a piece of metal it hit my left rear turn signal caught the corner an chipped the chrome an took the amber lens completely off. If any buddy has one they can part with let me know, I will check Ebay also. The trip to the mountains would have been perfect I will be working with the sheriff the ride was great except for the piece taking out my turn signal out. Thanks, Dale
  23. I have searched the other forums and threads for an answer to my problem but I haven't found one yet. My right turn signal blinks rapidly while the left blinks normally. I have tried to locate any possilbe shorts with no luck. The manual suggests the flasher relay as the culprit and I am leaning that way also. My question is: Has anyone ever heard of a flasher relay failing for one side and not the other? If so then a new relay it is for me. If not any assitance will be appreciated.
  24. I thought I had read a post where someone mounted the satellite antenna under the fairing, but I can't find it now. 1. Has anyone done this with success? 2. If so, have you been out on the road where there is only signal from the satellite and not from terrestrial repeaters. Thanks
  25. One of my turn signal seals was letting some water in. Popped a bulb. The water that got in seems to have rusted the bulb in place. Tried some gentler persuasion - then a bit less gentle with some needle nose pliers after the bulb glass broke. Anyone got suggestions on how to loosen this up to get it out without damaging the socket??
