Well, as some of you know I traded my 89 Honda Hawk in for a 88 Venture Royale about 2 weeks ago. The first weekend I got it I put about 400 miles on it and then parked it, planning on quickly completing a short list of changes. Well between learning more about the condition of the little do-dads on the bike, reading all the magnanimous ideas here and the internet, that short list quickly turned into 2 pages of 'things' to do... hehe.. *sigh* So... Since some of these are ideas already on here and some are my original ideas I thought I would post them all with pics to share. Some are finished and some I will be posting later as I complete them. So here we go!

Finally, after being laid up and then recouperating from my bypass surgery, I got to go for a ride last weekend (7th). Rode up Hwy 31 to Montgomery where I spent the night. Took off Sunday morning to ride down 82 and 29 to Crestview and on down to the coast. I had driven this route this Spring in a bus only from South to North. Anyway, got to Union Springs where I rode around the town looking at old houses for a short time, then headed out of town. At the main intersection I had a red light. While waiting a car pulled up behind me. When the light turned green I looked and then slowly pulled out. The next thing I knew I was staring into the grille of a Dodge SUV on my right. I had no time to react; the SUV hit me, pushed me sideways about ten feet before it stopped and I fell over to the left. The bike went down hard. I rolled a little then layed there for a minute. Long story short, the impact broke the two bones just above my right foot and dislocated my ankle. They took me to Montgomery for surgery and I came home tuesday last week. I have just about given up on bikes. I am hoping that they total out the Wing, even though I really love it. And it only has 2350 miles on it. Two accidents in one year with quadruple bypass in between. And I have this horrendous scrape/bruise on the left side of my ribcage. I think that's where I hit the left handlebar going off. Well, I won't be making any ride-ins or meet and eats for at least 6 weeks. And then if I do attend it will be in my truck. I am over motorcycles. !!!!!!!

I know this is short notice, but the little lady and I are leaving Dallas for a place just south of Branson, Mo. tomorrow (Friday) morning. We are vacationing for the next week and wondered if anyone local to that area would like to get together. We will be in Ridgedale Friday thru Thursday then heading to E.S. to hook up with the gang there. Weather looks like it is clearing up there, so some good riding and eating may come into play.

Well after 9 weeks my now clearview shield came in today. I bought the Med. 3" shorter then stock. I took it out of the box and it is a bet shorter then I thought it would be. It is hard to tell until I get it installed hope it not to short .Now for my question, there was 2 small pieces of rubber about 3" long could anyone tell me where these go? I think it may be on the short lip that is on each side of the shield but not sure. has anyone installed on on there bike lately? :7_6_3[1]::7_6_3[1]:

I pulled up to my local auto parts store at about 7:00 this evening to pick up some spark plugs for my RSV and I parked next to a young guy and his Vstrom. He had the seat off and was starting to take the plastic off. We exchanged hello's and commented that he hoped I didn't have his problem. A short in the electrical system due to melted insulation on several wires that had made contact with head. As I walked away to go in and get my spark plugs I noticed that he was from out of state with an Arkansas plate. When I came out I asked what I could do to help. While Riley (the owner) had fortunately found the short it was in one of those places that you could see but couldn't reach into. Neither he nor I had ever worked on a Vstrom. After I had assured him that I would not leave him stranded we spent the next 2 hours in the parking lot stripping the bike down by taking off the fairing and tank in order to get access to the wires. The store personnel were great in that they let him borrow tools from the shelf. We managed to get enough slack in the wire bundle and separate the melted wires in order to wrap them with tape. While we worked we got to know each other a bit and I found that he is a photographer who shoots weddings. So do I, or I did. So we were able to talk photography as well. Just as dark fell we had the bike back together and running well. He had another 40 miles to go tonight to make his next stop. He was very appreciative of my help and I enjoyed helping a fellow rider out. Hopefully, I'll get my spark plugs installed tomorrow night. DT

Nancy, is was great meeting you at Skids last weekend, Meeting you was the highlight of my trip, Seeing those pictures of Mark through the years made me feel like I had know him for years, thank you so much for going out of your way to come and see all of us.......... You and Mark did a fine job of raising Kenny, and just by talking to Kenny for the short time I can see that Mark was more that just a father but a friend and mentor to him...........I hope to get to your area in the near future and learn more about Mark, and who knows maybe Kenny can go for a ride with us.......... Thanks again and Gob Bless.

Saw this new product listing another board. With Rain-X being harmfull to shields, and being discussed in the past in several threads, I thought Raincoat might be something to look into for those riding in the rain. http://www.motosolutions.com/ Here's a short video. Looks pretty good to me.. Hope the link works. http://76.12.111.23/Videos/RaincoatDemo.wmv

I seldom go on You Tube, but a friend flagged this to me. It is an intersection car/cycle crash where the car obviously ran a red light. This is not for the faint at heart as the biker took a bad hit. But, on a lighter note, there are many more short videos attached near that are down right funny and it is amazing how stupid some people are. Didn't like the big whip antennas and I never use the CB so now I got a single short black one. Removed the CB mount and tied it up under the trunk. Got a short black rubber universial from parts store for about 5 bucks. I had to make the threaded adapter by drilling and tapping a bolt but it works great cost little and it is what I was looking for. http://bigbikeriders.com/photopost/data/500/2508antenna_cropped_red_2_.JPG

I know some of you have this. Interested, but leary. 3 hours of battery power just doesn't make sense to me. What do you do about the short battery life? Do you carry spares? Is there a way to hard wire it to the bike? Thanks in advance.

Kuryakin grips coming up short!
Guest posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I just finished the tune up and I purchased the Kuryakyn 6235. The web site states that the 6235 are for all Venture Royale. I have an 1984 VR and what I don't understand is that the grip on the left side seems to be too short and very loose when I put it on. The package says 6235 but could there have been an error in packaging or am I doing something wrong? Simply puting on by itself, there is a alot of play, then it comes up about 1" too short? Thank God I cut open the left side first...and just as I thought I could go for a ride tonight!!! :bang head: Anyone else run into this problem...or is it me again? The instructions talk of the spacer but from what I see and understand that is for if they are too long? It's a conspiracy for me not to take it for a ride!!!
