  1. I recently bought a couple lower fairing legs as I was told the finish was shiny. Actually the paint finish is dull with a more "satin" like finish compared to the high gloss on the other pieces of my bike. Color is good, just not shiny at all. Has anyone had any luck bringing back the shine with wax or spray gloss clear coat? I really don't want to take them to a body shop. Thanks
  2. OK Trying to the Darkside and can't get past dusk. I got the Kumho, went to CurtisMiller's place since he knew of a tire shop that would install it, and them tried to complete the job at his friend's shop. Anyway, the tire shop wussed out at 100# and it wouldn't seat completely. We ran it up to 120# (we think - can't trust the gauges) and no luck. Tried numerous times to break the bead and start over. It's perfect on one side and about 80% om the other. Any ideas???
  3. Where can I buy it - my local honda shop is out
  4. Reed

    tachometer

where can I get a portable tach for checking the RPMS. to sink the carbs? 08 venture dont have a tach. I don't need to have it mounted on the bike, Just for shop use. Called O'reilly auto parts. They don't have aney thing that will work.
  5. I own a 2006 RSV(Black Cherry) and have a electrical drain problem that has plaqued me for several months now. The bike has been to the local dealership four times over the past few monthes for this issue but nothing has been found???? The 1st time in the shop they said it was just a bad battery (2 yrs.old) and charged me over $100 for new battery and labor. Less than two weeks later it was totally dead again. Back to the shop and they kept it almost 2 weeks with a volt/ohm meter hooked up to it. Nothing found, they said it might have been a bad battery and gave me another one at no charge. A few weeks later the same scenario.................... Went to ride and nothing, no juice???? Back to the shop for another week and nothing was found to be at fault. They charged the battery and left it hooked up for a week with no drain????? I spent last week in the mountains in and around Tellico Plains, Tn (The Snake, The Devil's Triangle, The Dragon and Wayah Road) I took my Suzuki Boulevard C90 on this trip as it it lighter and really handles the twisties much better. Anyway, upon returning home I went to clean the RSV and turn the key and................................... Nothing! My volt meter read 3.5 volts. I monitor this forum daily and believe that the knowledge and expertise is truly right here to resolve this puzzle. I plan a 6000 trip to Montana in July and do not want to take the RSV unless this problem can be fixed. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation and shed some light on the fix????? Help ! Bugsplat
  6. How do I find Pin Wall Cycle Parts? Does anyone know the E-mail address or Web Site? I'm looking for a C B Antenna for a "99 RSV. Mine broke off. Also, I know that these antennas were a recall item, but our local Yamaha Shop says that the recall only applied to the first 2 years in service. Any comments on their reply?
  7. I have picked up a screw in the back tire of my 2006 RSDT The tire only has about 1000 miles on it,is it okay to take it to a tire shop and have them plug it or not Just looking for some input from you experienced riders Thanks dkip
  8. drove in to Corpis yesterday to get my new e 3 put on , took the wheel and new tire to the Yamaha dealer was told they will not work on my bike ' to old i said i have the wheel off , than was told they don't install tires they don't sell . i tried a few other shops , same thing ! stopped a HD rider and was told to have it done at a local custom shop , only cost 30 bucks , i got to the custom shop , had to listen to the bad mouthing about jap bikes , how much money the tire machine cost , also was told if i bought food at the store would i take it to a cafe to get it cooked but sence i was from out of town he would put it on for me but no warranty for 45 bucks and than was told to leave it and he would call me when he got around to it , i told him it was not worth me driving 80 miles round trip plus 45.00 to have it done i'd stick around [ i wanted to watch him to make sure he did it rite ] finlley after a hour making friends with him he installed my new tire and and did it rite i paid him 45.00 . he found the receit in the tire , 116.00 what i paid retail 179.00 , i ask him what he would charge for the the tire and do's he buy tires off the internet WOW did that start a fire ! he told me he only buys tires from Drag Spec. and never from the internet ! ok , i pic up my wheel , said thanks and left the building . in my bus. i install parts custermers bring in all the time , i like the money and when i sell parts i tack on 17 to 35 % on the whole sale price , i have a 7000.00 power bill a month and i can buy a whole lot cheaper and not have to pay shipping because i buy in large amounts , when i owned a small one man shop i loved cust. bringing in there own parts , no stocking , no shipping , no taxs , i did not have to be out of any money only labor . i forgot one thing , i asked every m/c shop i went to , do a lot of riders buy tires off the net and was told yes , than i asked do a lot of riders install there own ? again yes , not one shop got what i was saying ! O'well i think it is time to buy a tire machine ! Thom
  9. Have any of you seen these? http://landingear.com/ [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOhP1HTZQwY]YouTube - Honda Gold Wing[/ame] They show them for wings & HDs but I wonder if they can be made for the Venture. I am going to have to do something one day, as my hips are getting worse and the Venture is alot to hold up - especially riding 2 up. I looked at Trikes this morning at a local trike shop. All they had were Wings & HDs. They said one of the kits do fit a Star Tour Deluxe but nothing for the Venture. I thought about ordering one someplace else and paying this shop to install it. But I am still looking at a lot of money! With this Landing Gear thing, I would still get to keep the leaning in the corners. I Just hate to give that up if I don't have to. What do ya think? Craigr
  10. I've given up on buying a hitch assembly for an 83. a buddy that has a full service shop says he can build me one if I can get photos of a hitch off the bike and or measurements and photos on a bike. Anyone able to help me? He will havethe bike at his shop to measure, but would like a starting idea as to waht they look like, how high they are mounted, etc....
  11. I am wondering , will a tire that was balanced by the shop that put it on,,,,. be in balance if you put ride-on in it. looks likr that it would counter act the weights that were put on at the shop..dose any have any idea about this???
  12. I am looking to buy a good but yet reasonably priced shop tach. I have looked at Harbor Freight but some of you have said they don't function well. I would be using mostly for Carb Syncing on my RSV. What is everyone else use? Thanks
  13. Got around to building some shop cabinets for my new garage. Getting a little better organized to give room to play with the toys.
  14. Well with all the toys I have I am looking at getting an Ultrasonic cleaner for things like Carbs and such.I have had the carbs on my 84 cleaned with one when I first resurected it from near dead. My question is should I purchase one of these for the shop and what all can it be used for other things around the Muffin Shack or is it going to be just a shop use type of thing. Jeff

    Radiator

In the process of pulling the starter on my first gen, I found that the small nipple of the radiator was merely held in by JB weld, which I completely disdain, and when wiggled just a smidge fell clear out. After looking at some of the ebay prices, and trying to shop around for a used one, I took mine to the radiator shop and asked if it could be fixed. He said "absolutely, won't be a problem". I asked if he could flush and leak test it as well, and asked the expected price. Then he drooped his head and said, "Well, for something like that it is pretty expensive." I thought, "Oh hell" Then he said, "I feel like I am stealing from you, but the time is what you are paying for. I have to ask for thirty bucks." I said, "Well, a guy has to make his money."
  16. Thanks for the welcome y'all. I hail from "sunny" NW - Port Angeles, WA - great riding country just always pack your wet gear. ALWAYS looking for riding bud's and will join most any road trip, especially fond of the really important one's - like that 800 mile round trip for the BEST ribs on the planet in Spokane, WA out by the old Air Force air strip. Hobby in the winter is scouring Craig's list, and other venues for the older, classic or soon to be classic rides for those fixer bikes, bringing them home to my shop and giving them a new life. The rest of my time is spent fishing and riding. Give me a shout, let's go for a ride or hook up in the shop and skin some knuckles. 18. I put a set of Longhorn Duallies on my RSV on Sunday, rode to work on Tuesday and noticed a crack on the clevis. Upon further investigation, both left and right pegs were cracked in the same place. The shop I purchased them from said they will swap them out. Has anybody had issues with Kuryakyn pegs?
  19. Mine finally gave out on me yesterday after completing a Patriot Guard mission. Locked up so bad I could not even start the bike. My local Dealer picked her up within 30 minutes of my call to him. New switch was already on Order by the time she came off the trailer at the Shop and the new switch from Yammi should be in within 3-4 days. Can't ride this coming week anyhow cuz of our lousy weather of snow/sleet/ice.

    new lift

Has anyone seen this , a motorcycle lift at Pricess Auto in Canada http://www.princessauto.com/PAcountry.cfm?CTRY=CAN&INF=home in the Shop and garage flyer item # 8197147
  21. We had a Metzler 880 marathon come apart on a run yesterday and thank goodness we were only doing 45mph at the time. The tire shop was only a couple miles away and when we got to the shop there were 2 guys there who had there Metzler's come apart also. the date of manufacture on there tires was 08 with less the 5k miles and the guy in our group his date was 07 with a little over 6k on his tire. I like my AVON'S and think I will stick with them. The Dunlap 2's were great on my 1st Gen and I loved how they handled. But on this 2nd Gen I will stick with AVON'S. If your running Metzler's be careful and check them often. We have Bikefest 08 going on out here now and bikes are everyware.................................................Ron
  22. We arrived at our cabin Friday evening and the women fell in love with it at first sight. It took awhile to look around and get unpacked, but after that we all sat on the deck and had some liquid reftreshments. Saturday morning brought a ever so slight chill in the air,but it warmed up quickly so we were off for some breakfast and hikeing at Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls,Ash Cave and Rock House. For some reason the hills seemed bigger than they were 8 or 10 years ago.:whistling: Saturday evening we all sat around the campfire and had some more liquid refreshments, smore's, and several turns in the hot tub. It was a late evening with all the talking about the day and the sights we had seen. Everyone wanted to plan another trip as soon as possible, only longer. Sunday it was time to pack up and head for home but not before we took the women shopping at the Artisan Mall and a flee market/antique shop. We found Highway Rebel Apparel ( Classic car and motorcycle shop) but they were closed. I was glad that I had the only trailer as the wifes love to shop. Thought I would have to UPS some luggage home.:rotf: WE decided to take the 2 lanes home for some nice riding. My friends youngest son and my son did and exellent job riding on their first road trip on their sportsters. My daughter said she liked riding behind her brother, but she can't wait untill her car is paid for, so she can buy her own bike. Next time will be a longer stay for sure.
  23. I have a question to ask our members and guest. My 08 RSV has been in the shop now for 3 weeks with a radio problem (will not work, cuts in and out). The dealer has changed out the left rear speaker, entire radio unit, handlebar control head, wiring sub-harness and CB mich button and still cannot find the problem. I thought they were going to change out the entire harness earlier but they didn't, but now have decided to do so. Now, I've been without my bike now for 3 weeks and it looks like I may be without it for another 2 weeks at least. I'm getting tired of waiting on it. The people I work with have told me to demand a loaner bike or yet, give me another one. I'm a fairly patient person and have dealt with this dealer before and like them. But my question to you fellow members who have dealt with bike dealers before is: How long should I wait before I start squawking and raising cane about getting my bike back? I got about a months riding out of it before the radio and CB broke. My bike was my primary transportation to and from work. Needless to say I'm getting a little frustrated and so is the shop trying to fix it. They also have another 08 RSV in the shop with the same problem. When they figure out what's wrong with mine, they can fix the other one too. Any advice from you all will be appreciated. Thanks, Glenn
  24. I'm kinda POd and wanted to vent a little so bear with me..........today, I happened to pull over a guy on a Vulcan. What attracted my attention was that he had no helmet on and NY is a helmet state (No debate here OK??). Anyway...the guy had come over on the ferry from New London CT (CT is a no helmet state) and rode about 15 miles without a helmet before I saw him. We chatted for a few minutes and I told him he had to get a helmet on before he could go. Nearest shop to get one was about 15 miles away. I told him to call wherever he was going and have someone pick one up for him. I didn't write him any summonses as he seemed to be decent enough (Just kinda dumb since he didn't check to see if the states he would be riding through required helmets) and I left. A few hours later I got called to a local body shop (right up the road from where I had stopped the guy)where one of the mechanics had parked his Harley in front of the shop when he got to work and when he went to go home...yup...his helmet was gone! One of the secretaries said a guy who matched my guys description walked into the shop and asked if there was anyplace he could get a helmet. He left and she heard his bike start up and leave. I can't believe that this POS would pull this stunt. I guess he doesn't realize that I have his plate number, as well as his picture from my in-car video. Needless to say he has a message on his answering machine and the local PD where he is destined was advised. Hopefully they'll catch him wearing the helmet and lock his sorry butt up. The nerve of some people.
  25. Since my 06 RSTD is in the shop to be repaired after the wreck, I told the Service Mgr that I'd like him to replace the I basket with the H basket and quiet the bike down, since it seems to be a technical problem and should be fixed under warranty. He instantly became a little HOSTILE and told me HE would decide what was a warranty issue. Isn't there a bulletin or something out there that acknowledges this problem? It seems I saw it once but.... What do I need to do to get it changed while its in the shop for a few weeks? Thanks guys! Mark
